In January Using flashrec - I rooted my hero htc sprint to mocodo 1.1.
all works great and battery life is fine. wifi for my mac is especially superb
questions
do I want to upgrade rom to fresh 2.1.2 or stay where I am
is 2.1 that much better
if so, how do i do it?
do I just copy fresh 2.1 or some other 2.1 rom to my sd card
and follow directions as per when I installed mocodo rom
from the sd card using flash rec

Is it that much better? Depends on who ya ask. I run CyanagenMod 6 on my Hero that is basically 2.2 and love it. Battery life isn't bad if you reset the battery stats like your suppossed to. Make sure you have a nandroid back up, wipe, and install new rom zip from recovery. Use titanium backup paid version to backup/restore all your user apps w/ data to the new rom. You will still have to setup your homescreens unless the launchers are the same on both roms then you can backup your homescreens too. If you don't like it just use your nandroid backup. Check your backup first tho. My nandroids are funny sometimes useing amon-ra-heroc. Does anyone have another hero recovery that works better?

Alright, so I have been testing the waters with my HTC Magic over the last several weeks. I have it unlocked and rooted, updated radio, everything has been going quite well. A few weeks back, I settled on a ROM that seemed to work best for me, and I have installed plenty of apps, widgets, and I have the customization down to a T.
But I wish to continue trying out different ROM's. Who knows, I may find something I like even more! As a fallback though, I wish to preserve all the hard work I put into my current setup. I can't find anything definitive about exactly what a Nandroid backup does, but from what I can see, it is implied that it will save all apps, settings, etc. I'm just wondering if that's correct.
So let's I'm running Android 1.6, I do a Nandroid backup, and then I wipe everything and install a compatible Froyo ROM. Would I be able to restore the backup and have everything the same as before? Or, let's say I don't like the ROM, so I wish to return to the same one I'm currently running. When I restore the backup, will it look like I never changed anything at all? Will there be lost apps or settings, or possible broken apps??
Should sound pretty straightforward, but I just want to be 100% sure before I mess around. Thank you all very much
As far as apps & settings try titanium backup, the donate version offers a 1 click back up, comes in pretty handy if you do alot of flashing, there is a free version as well but you have to manually back your stuff up one at a time, which is a pain if you have alot of stuff, but free is free & it is always nice to try before you buy... My back up pro will accomplish the samething, but I prefer titanium as I feel it has a little better options. So nand backup for your roms & titanium for apps and data and you can go nuts flashing and trying out roms with relative ease... The only issues you may run into would be compatibility of apps going from 1.6 to 2+.

A nand backup/restore should get everything back to how it was. Titanium backup is handy for keeping your apps, settings, etc... When switching from rom to rom.

I have a question about NANDROID
ez. I used the ROM: LeeDrOid_V1.9a on my HTC desire. I did a full backup NANDROID. now update the ROM to LeeDroid_v2.2a( this ROM is include a new kernel for overclock to 1113mhz), and do a restore my backup NANDROID.
IT seems everything comes back to V1.9a( I check in " software Information" shows software number is v1.9a, even the kernel is rollback too)
is it normal?
I want to use LeeDroid_v2.2a because it has new kernel for overclock to 1113mhz but I dont want to install all apps again. what should I do?
I just setup my Droid Incredible with the MIUI ROM and adjusted all of the settings the way I like it (wifi, ringtones, layout, etc.). Is there a way to somehow spin that into a flashable rom?

I want to do the same thing! I have FireFly3.0 installed and want to try out a 2.3.3 rom, but don't want to have to endure all the pain of having to set everything back up if I find it unstable. A "known good" rom, if you will.
Can't you just use rom manager to create a backup, and pull it off the phone and keep it safe? I seem to recall using restores when I tried roms that I didn't like the feel of.
Yeah, it's called a nandroid backup. Boot into recovery, do your backup, then wipe and flash the other rom. If you decide you want to go back to your old setup, restore from the nandroid backup and everything will be just as it was. Like nothing ever happened...

For work I made a pre-configured phone with our own software
wich is used for consumer research.
I want to make a rom from this phone so I can distribute this on
the hundrets of phone's we are having.
(There's no *.apk or setup package from our own written software,
we use 2 *.bat files to reset the phone and install our software)
What's the most easyest / effecient wat to do this?

Please bear with me and my noob questions. I have a rooted and unlocked Infuse 4 G. At the moment I am using t mobile monthly 4 g unlimited pre paid.
I have never done anything to the phone besides using the bml3.bk file in the hex editor to unlock the phone. I have some apps installed, and I have installed titanium back up but have not ran any back ups.
I have read the instructions but I am still confused and worried I might brick my phone. I do not have any warranty on it.
I have had others tell me that the Infused 2.1.0 and infusion 1.1 kernel running 1.6ghz would be the best way to go.
And that CMW recovery is the safest way to install it.
It says not to back anything up with titanium recovery. Does that mean that I will lose all of my apps? Or that I will lose all of my contacts or progress in apps, such as games and kindle books?
Will I lose my APN settings?
Also if I have not backed anything up, what happens if I make a mistake in the installation? Is there a way to get my stock settings back?
Also, just to be sure, I would download the zip files directly to my phone, from my phone correct? Just making sure I do not download them to my PC and then transfer them to my sd card.
Also what about the updates and beta versions? Should I use the most updated file or an older one?
Also, I do use facebook, so I can reinstall that after the ROM is installed?

I downloaded them to PC and transfered them sd. Yes, its safe to backup apps with titanium, when you go to reinstall them, just restore apps and data, NOT system data. Just back all of them up, you can restore each that you want later. Just read all the installation instructions a couple of times until you understand the process. Once you do it, you'll realize its not hard. Install the ROM first, then, the kernel. If you do brick your phone, you can use Odin-to-Stock to return the phone to its stock. You'll be glad you upgraded to a custom ROM, its much faster. Only downfalls on Infused 2.1.0, (latest version) is that there is no HDMI support, and the video recording is not 30fps like it should be, but these problems will be fixed soon.
Do NOT run Infusion (or any other overclock/undervolt kernel) until you're perfectly satisfied with the stability of the ROM in question without the modded kernel.
Overclock/undervolt kernels can cause instability that may be misdiagnosed as a ROM bug.

True, only reason I say this is because they work great together. But he's right, once you install you may not like the ROM or something else, like have problems with it. You can install the kernel anytime. You will need a overclock app like voltage control or setcpu in order to get it overclocked.

Ok so I have mt TF rooted, CWM with backup done, I have the revolver rom on sd so do I need to do anything special like clear caches or anything and will I lose any of my installed games or apps ? I read that on Android rev hd you have to use super wipe lite and was wondering if you have to do that with revolver.
My tablet is brand new 3.2 HC but I do have some games and stuff I dont want to lose.

I did not clear stuff for the first time, but it is recommended - and yes, if you wipe the system you'll lose your apps, but not what's on the internal memory (/mnt/sdcard)
As davebugyi said, it is not 100% required, but strongly recommended (you could run into issues if you don't do it) if you change roms. By that I mean switch between different roms, not just update your current one. I always do it when changing roms, using the CWM clear/wipe feature is usually sufficient (unless the ROM developer says otherwise in the intall instructions).
If you want to persist apps and app data, you can try one of the backup tools such as Titanium backup. I havent tried it yet with this device though..
Titanium backup
I use titanium backup to backup apps+data then do a complete wipe. Install revelover then restore titanium backup and all your files/games etc are restored.

I will do a backup with what you recommended and wipe then install. I just hope this revolver rom is worth it. Seems like everytime you look on the forum someone post a new rom.
best rom
The revolver rom is the best. One of it's features is when you click on the history icon it gives a list of history but they have a little red x in the top corner of each. Clicking the x closes the history for that screen. Keeps yout TF clean and fast. Other roms do not have that facility.

As jacks said yes, but in my case I'm using Titanium Backup to have all data from my apps saved.
You just have to go S-Off, SuperCID, Root, save all with Titatnium and start all process to flash ROM's (Firmware, Wipe, ROM, kernel...)
And btw, when I started on the ROM's world 1 week ago I tried InsertCoin, did a backup on it (Angry birds xD) and when I ported all to Revolution it worked perfectly So just quite similar case here!

I guess you refer to sd card apps and data and not to system data.
In this case yes. Unless some appls may not be compatible with ICS.
Do not attempt to restore system data from GB to ICS as it will jam up your device.

Btw, take care on the 2.2 backups... I supose you are talking about Titanium backup or so isn't it? As said before you should have problem with not compatible apps, but if they can update via Google Play properly you should not lose any important data
