Is there anyway I can get the exact HTC Hero keyboard on an HD2? I hate the HD2 keyboard, not the sensitivity or anything like that, more specifically I hate the arrows to the right they completely skew the entire keyboard and it's been 2 months and I still haven't been able to get used to it. If I can't have the hero keyboard, is there another good keyboard out there for the HD2 that does not have the arrows to the right of the keyboard (of course not including the backspace arrow)?

There have been lots of posts by people looking to properly disable XT9 that is integrated in the HTC soft keypad and keyboard to make the "regular" word completion work when using the hardware keyboard.
For quick SMS messages, I still prefer a phonepad with XT9. I like the large layout of the HTC keypad, but XT9 drives me nuts. After trying about every SIP I could find, I think the smootest for T9 phonepad input is the HTC Phone Pad (also called Intellipad) that apparently used to be included on HTC roms. It's quick and T9 only rears its face when you're using it.
There are a number of skins out there for it, including a touch-style one that looks close to the new HTC Keypad (sorry for not looking up the creator) but the 0-9 keys are always smaller (due to the extra keys on the sides I guess).
I think it would be great if someone with some knowledge of creating SIPs and skinning them could create a new skin for this Phone Pad that is laid out just like the new HTC Keypad. I imagine this would take a little more modification than just a new skin due to the size of the buttons and the layout. For example, I don't see the need for the arrow buttons on the corners of the Phone Pad, but you can't scroll through the word suggestions with the hardware "D-pad" 'as is'.
I wish I could get this started myself, but unfortunately I have no knowledge of how to make/edit a SIP. I know there's plenty of people out there that can however, so hopefully someone might be interested in making a more usable version of the new HTC Keypad and interested in taking this on.
One thing I've noticed with all the great cooked ROMs is that the stock screen keyboard is not nearly as good (at least to me) as the screen keyboard found on the stock ATT ROM. Is there a cab file where I can install that particular screen keyboard?
NOTE: I'm not referring to the physical keyboard fix for mapping.
Thanks!
most cookers don't disable the stock onscreen keyboard. When keyboard shows up, should be able to click on the little arrow next to the keyboard and select the OEM original stock keyboard. Some of the keyboards are skinned to different colors, then you might want to ask the cooker in their appropriate thread how to get back the keyboard.
I'm not sure if I answered your question because I'm a bit confused...the stock ATT rom screen keyboard is the same as the TYTNII screen keyboard.
What are some of the best keyboards for Froyo? I was really digging the Droid X multitouch keyboard, and was fine with the HTC one, but now I'm on Froyo with stock and swype, and swype isn't very good at web surfing and form filling (when you type it doesn't fill in the text, it shows up in the pop up box). So what else is out there thats good?
Hiya
Firstly, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - I searched and used the related threads that the thread starter suggestion thingy returned but nothing *totally* relevant to what I'm looking for.
I'm running the Froyo 2.2 with Sense Android rom on my HD2. Absolutely stunning albeit sliiiiiightly buggy and the battery dies within 24hours of moderate use. It addresses all my gripes with Winmo. My main issue was the keyboard. With the directional buttons on screen, the rest of the buttons have been squashed and with my ogre fingers it was a nightmare to type.
The k/b on the Android rom is fantastic. Now I thought that this was the stock keyboard on all Android phones running Froyo 2.2. Then I saw a video of the Desire HD which is what I want to get and sell my HD2 for. But I saw a video of the keyboard and it also has the directional keys on screen.
Is there a reg entry to hide the directional keys or do I have to find an alternate keyboard?
Thanks all.
RE: Android Keyboards on HTC devices
the best way is to find an alternate keyboard like "better keyboard"
I recommend Smart Keyboard Pro. There is a trial version for free in the market. It just features a small nag screen
HI
I am missing my scroll track ball as when i type any text and want to amend the text in upper line or something like i have to click on that particular part, having fat fingers sometime its impossible or take few more click with my fingers to get to that particular part of the text
so any one experienced this ?... i seen HTC DESIRE HD the keyboard got the arrows keys to move the typing cursor across but not in our Sensation
any other solution
Please excuse my poor English
Thanx
I came from the Wildfire which as the trackpad. I thought I would miss it but I don't.
I use Smart Keyboard Pro, and imo it is the best alternative keyboard out there. So customisable! You can add arrow keys with that keyboard. There's a trial version of the keyboard if you want to test it out and look at the settings.
Ahh, I feel your pain. I too miss my G2 trackpad. I didn't even realize how much I used it for that purpose until I was without it. I use ultra keyboard for my fix. The auto correct algorithm is the best I've used so far. And you can shorten the key height(or enlarge) to make the keyboard the same height as stock with the arrows included.
