Incredible !!!
Woowwwwwwwwwww....
If this is really how it works, it will be a bomb when it will be released.....
Fantastic....
That's pretty awesome, I wonder what device he is using, it clearly has an accelerometer. Looks promising, hopefully they will make a version that is CDMA capable.
Truly genious
Yup I've been keeping my eye out for this OS. theres been alot of talk. By the way there is no added hardware. The OS will use any hardware(hopefully) built in your current phone. Like I said I am running an at&t tilt w/cooked rom. L26 Diamond v1....no wait...v2...oh dam it v3 now ... no no v4.... lol. But anyways its the same proccessor as the tilts. Only thing is right now its leaning towards the lenix department. But who knows we have alot of talented peeps in this forum working on enabling it on our HTC PPC. Its an open sources so it will be free. For those looking into purchasing a diamond or a Iphone i suggest you wait because your old phone may be able to run this OS.
My only problem with my PPC 6800 is that I want a accelerometer for superficial reasons. Software becomes that much funner with them. Also with the whole "compass" setup on street view with google it would be worth it to have a phone that can do the whole camera recognition thing. I believe the Rapheal will have that.
I'm due for an upgrade....hmmmm think I'll wait a couple more months and see what develops.
Word on the street is that the phone used is a HTC Dream...sweet!

T mobile is supposed to get that right?
Typing this up really quickly as im waiting for lunch, will expand later.
I got lots of pics and vids already, which i may post later if there is any interest.
Android stuff seems to be decidedly absent so far.
@Microsoft: You all probably already heard about WM 6.5, saw some demos live, looks like a decent UI improvement, but its still no iPhone. Also saw some new devices here, including Acer stuff.
@nVidia: I did get a chance to play with a Tegra device, which was really snappy and smooth, but also the size of a small house. Very promising. They did have two normal Tegra devices on display, with names I had seldom heard before, but behind glass.
@HTC: Played with the Touch Diamond 2 a bit. I dont like the new form factor much. It wastes space at the bottom, and introduces a zoom slider that I couldnt get to work in either IE or Opera. They did do some more HTC integration, new startmenu, better contacts list etc. The Touch Max is just an HD with WiMAX.
@Qualcomm: They demod snapdragon, but it didnt seem as impressive as Tegra. Also, I was not allowed to touch the device. The now infamous Toshiba was also there, but again, no touching. BTW Nokia just made a deal with these guys, so abandon ship!
@LG: I was surprised to learn they are switching to WM as primary OS. They had some nice Omnia-like devices though, and the wristwatchphone was also fun.
@Samsung: Biggest surprise here, it seems the OmniaHD is running Symbian! No idea yet if there will also be a WM version.
---
The open eco system keynote with Microsoft, Nokia and AT&T CEOS was interesting. AT&T guys was the best, Ballmer a close second with his energetic ways and content, while the Nokia guy almost killed everybody due to excess boredom. The keynote itself was mostly a call for more working together and being generally more open with things, which they all agreed was necessary.
---
BTW, I dont know who CBOSS are or what they do, but they do employ an army of hot models!
More later, lunch is here, and I want to find myself a Palm Pre to play with!
ok, just tell me which device to get and that's it. so many out there i can't decide what i want.
JUST TELL ME! AHHH!
Omnia HD!!
HTC's hardware seems to be stuck in 2007 compared to Samsung and LG, heck even Sony Ericsson.
Kinda worrying how ppl are moving towards Symbian, but can't blame them windows mobile really is starting to show its age and no amount of skinning will disguise the fact that it needs a major revamp.
Okay, I was seriously thinking of abandoning the HTC ship for the nokia N97, so I could keep my tilt screen, but now? So if it is not too much trouble, my contract is up in April, could you please corner the AT$T guys and ask them when my new Touch Pro II ( Fuze II ? ) will be available on AT$T? Thanks
Some more stuff... First, somebody at HTC really needs to be fired for putting XT9 on the TP enabled when keyboard is extended. Annoying like hell, finally its off
Found some very nice Android devices that should be out by Q2. The company didnt decide on the brand name yet.
Unfortunately you cant play with the Palm Pre unless you are press.
@Gigabyte (GSmart): some very nice upcoming WM devices. Some were running 6.5 and I played with that. I think somebody made a mistake there!
@iMate: They drowned some of their WM phones. Waterproof!
can you attempt to get the new WM6.5 build ?

At Toshiba's booth, you can freely play with the TG01. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3339526 for more info & a lot of pics & videos (more to come!!!)
Hey Werner!
You're here? Haven't gotten round to Toshiba's booth yet, but if you're interested, PM me your phone number (plus international code bla bla) and we can meet up, schedules allowing... There will be beer!
No ROM dumps people It's a small booth, can't make it happen.
About those Android phones we saw (and I must stress here, I haven't even seen half of all the exhibits yet because of appointments and speeches etc), first, they looked very nice. One of the sexiest phone designs I've seen in a while, but then it was made by a 'design company'. They originally focused on Linux but switched to Android when it was released. According to them, they are using the default Android 'shell' - which is a shame, because their Linux phone had one of the awesomest shells I've seen in a while. I don't think they really understood me correctly, but it seemed they were saying that for these phones you can get apps to run as root without jailbreaking by getting it certified by them (or something.. wasn't really clear).
There were also some Androids coming out under the General Mobile label, but not necessarily those I mentioned above
And no, we're not palming those models (but perhaps we will? ) but we are sure to do some clubhopping here. It's Barcelona, after all! In fact I just got back from a club
EDIT: Also, at SPB's booth we were shown SPB Shell 3.0 (after being persistent), dont have any pics or vids of that. But it's pretty darn cool. I'm going to buy it when it's out, most likely, beats the crap out of TF3D.

Ditto.
I just downloaded the SDK and I'm gonna poke around a bit, see what I can see.
From what I heard Android is going to have some competition with palm pre. Only problem they have is 1 phone, where we have multiple and growing.
.....
Android only had one phone for a long time.
I wouldn't really say that Android has some competition because of the Pal Pre.
The Palm Pre is just another phone in the same genre. (iPhone, BB Storm, N97, most WM phones.)
I would actually worry less about the Palm Pre then some of the others. Yeah there are some die hard Palm fans - but realistically they haven't done **** worth mentioning since the Palm Pilot, and even that was pretty full of fail sauce.
Hero looks better and the stock Tmo firmware is more functional then the Pre, and the Pre is even more under powered then the G1 is.
eventhough it would be great to have the pre interface on the g1, it is impossible! the pre has a 800 Mhz processor to administrate better speeds to the multitasking portion of the OS, and the g1 is 528 MHz with 192 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM. good luck!!
ps. this is the same reason why the HTC hero build cant be succesfully ported to the g1,......that and the internal memory sucks ass.........viva la g1.......!?

you need to do your research sir. the g1 is way underpowered compared to the Pre, in just about every way. the Pre has a much faster processor one that can almost double the g1's a better graphics chip. more ram, more internal storage, brighter screen, more functional camera.
I hate to say this but when it comes to hardware the g1 cant compete with the Pre. if the Pre is given time to iron out the kinks android is gonna have to step it up. The Pre has done in a few weeks what took android months.
ps. i absolutely spite the Pre my brother has one. I'd take my g1 over the Pre any day but, it truly is the better phone (hardware) wise, and to get the g1 to run its os at anything better than halfspeed will be a miracle i would be willing to see.
good luck
I think its (Pre) biggest downside is that it is on the Sprint network exclusively. I wouldnt buy any phone on their network, regardless of how good it is.
its announced that pre has an exclusive contract, but ATT will be carrying the also. release date not released yet.

They will sign with every company they can to get their phones out there. Palm especially. They want to get all the phones out there that they can because WebOS can be their salvation. So much is riding on it they have to.
Personally, I would not choose ATT but here is why they do. Apple had a GSM device. They could choose between TMo or ATT. ATT is the better choice because, although the first iPhone was 2G, ATT has a better 3G network right now. Palm makes both devices so they are putting it out for CDMA and GSM. Just my $0.02
Why not have a good carrier that gives you lots of options for phones........i dont understand your mentality alexjzim

Do you think it will ever be possible for Android to have multi-tasking like the Pre does?
That's the one thing I'm really really evious of.
Sure, the G1 has multitasking, but switching between applications is a pain in the ass, even with Task Switcher. I love the "cards" and the swiping left and right.
- Would it ever be possible to get that (or better multitasking in general) on Android?
- Are there any other apps that help with multi-tasking other than Task Switcher? (Or home button long press)
-----
Actually, after some searching around on www.cyrket.com, I just found the amazingness of Bar Control + Useful Switchers. Wow, I can't believe I ever used this phone without them. That helps a TON.
Of course, if anyone has any other tips for multi-tasking, I'm all ears!
the g1 can multi task but nothing close to what the pre can do. once again look at the specs for each phone.
You guys are comparing the G1 to the Palm Pre which is not fair being that the G1 is old right now in Tech. Years, why not compare G1's sister the T-Mobile myTouch to the Palm Pre and we'll see who's better. Obviously Android is still new to the game but give it sometime and with all these Android OS phones coming it's time to give iPhone a rest but bottom line I won't trade my G1 for nothing unless it was an upgraded one with camera flash and new hardware but don't take away QWERTY I needs that!

The myTouch is almost identical to the G1 in terms of hardware, save for the lack of a keyboard, and increased memory...

Besides that it has a 900/2100MHz processor with 288MB of RAM which is better than the Palm Pre's also which is why it is better compared than the G1 so they are not the same.
Just curious whether you folks at XDA will be adding a forum/subforum for the Droid?

Actually, pretty sure HTC did manufacture the Xperia. The Treo on the other hand...
Anyway, I think it would be a shame to miss out on the Droid rush. It's going to be the biggest Android phone this year (if not longer) and will probably spawn a whole new wave of development.
HTC did manufacture the X1 and the Treo.
Historically, XDA-Developers has been HTC only. This is really crappy because there are other devices out there that could benefit this community if the forum sections were created. The Motorola Droid is one of them.
I'd love to see that happen

HTC Hero UI on Droid?
I just got a Moto Droid the other day over the Eris due to its keyboard and hardware specs...
BUT, the Eris has a much nicer UI (Home Screen, Contacts, Widgets etc) thanks to HTC (as usual)
Because both the devices are Android (however different versions from what I understand), is it possible to get the Widgets and Home screen from the Eris on the Droid??
I am obviously new to Android and have typically been a Windows Mobile user (Used the HTC TouchFlo on the Omnia and what not), and would really like to continue to use HTC's UI's on my Droid.
Do you think this is possible, and if so perhaps this particular topic could be a forum dedicated to it on XDA

The hero widgets are highly coupled with the framework of the device. Therfore if you wanted to run them they just simply wont work. There is a 3rd party alternative called beautiful widgets for $0.99 cents of the android market.
I have also picked up a Droid and want to see it here, until the Leo comes out this is the Android phone to have.
Ditto! Ditto! Ditto!
Agreed, lets hack this phone wide open even if it's not htc!
many unique problems for this platform, especially if you really want SenseUI.
Me personally, I'd rather see a Cyanogen build...but we need root first and foremost...and a good recovery img.
Screen capture of Droid Bootloader is here.

We are not that far, with the help of XDA team we could get there so fast.
Just so you all know... Alldroid.org supports the Droid... we're also getting clues on how to root it!!!
PLEASE
I would really like to see a Droid/ any other andorid phone sub forum. this site has the most expansive wealth of information and i feel that having XDA as a resource for Droid users would greatly advance the android platform.
TO XDA: i know you folks only do HTC phones but please, listen to the community so other members can help us out. just so you know all other fourms related to the DROID are disasters!! help we the droid users!
i second this request!
Yes please. Expand your views. It's not only HTC thats interesting
So I've been a smartphone person for a while and the last good phone I had was the Nokia N91 which broke. I've been using a crappy Samsung slider to make/take calls and send/receive messages.
I'm getting a new phone and have narrowed down my choices to 2.
HTC HD2 (Leo) or the HTC Hero.
Now, I love the HTC Hero but the only thing keeping me is what I've heard about it being very laggy (and ive seen some videos, opening the mail takes at least 5-10 seconds). I have used the Android OS several times at the store and really love it (recently tried the HTC Droid Eric by Verizon).
I have also used Windows Mobile and find it okay, but seem to like Android better. Also, HTC Hero will NOT get 3G in the US...
I'm looking at the HD2 because it packs a lot of horsepower... 1Ghz is pretty dang nice, and from the videos I've seen lag does not exist AT ALL.
So now I have this dilemma... should I buy the HD2 or Hero. I guess it comes down to whether or not WinMo is better than Android (FOR ME. Please don't start a android vs winmo flame war).
What do you guys think?
P.S. I need to buy an unlocked GSM. No other options. Will probably get it from Middle East/Europe. Availability in a certain region is not an issue for me.
Welcome to HTC XDA! We highly recommend HTC HD2 top of the line PPC!! See the LEO section for the specs, answers & info...
I am personally waiting for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 which runs android, a very high resolution, and the snapdragon processor, in my opinion it is superior to the hd2 and the hero
Thanks galaxys for the warm welcome.
I'm not sure what you mean by PPC, but why exactly is it that you recommend it? The superior hardware?
and thanks jad for the response... I have considered the X10 and think its pretty cool but I'm not willing to wait and need a new phone NOW
PPC means Pocket PC. Anything that runs Windows Mobile is a pocket PC. It's not a term you see much nowadays.
The HD2 is probably the best PPC/WM device out there at the moment. As far as I'm aware (others please correct me if I'm wrong) the Eris is the Hero in another casing spcifically for Verizon. If only the Leo ran Android....
Ah okay thanks TheBrit
Yes you are correct about the Eris. Just different case.
Also, I've really fallen in love with android... so I guess I'll go for the Hero.
There's also the Samsung Moment that runs Android and has a physical keyboard.
