Use Native Android SMS APP instead of Sense SMS?? - Droid Incredible Themes and Apps

Does anyone know how to use the native android sms instead of the htc sense one?

I believe there are mms.apk's out there that you can download, but you can always use something like Handcent or Chomp SMS too

From what i read it seemed like the mms.apks just removed sense messaging but i didn't think it replaced it with the stock app. I have started using handcent which is ok but i would like to know how to go back to stock app as well. You know just to have options.

Root required.

htc sense mms

I've been using aosp mms for the last couple of days and I mostly like it but it doesn't read my contact in the conversation thread and it doesn't seem to size right inside the messaging thread. So I'm hoping someone has a flashable zip of the original HTC sense mms apk ? I'm running freshes latest Rom if that matters .
just adb push the Mms.apk to system/app
I cannot get the stuff to and push to install on ny computer

I'm not sure if that'll work since it's tied to Rosie. However, I do recommend Handcent SMS. It has iPhone-style bubbles and other themes and has a quick reply popup that will come up in any app you're in. I too found the stock Messaging app lacking but this made it much better.
If you do decide to use this app, be sure to turn off notifications in the stock app or you'll get two notifications for each message you get.

Thanks for the advice. I used handcent for a long time on my g1 and it was alright except for a few bugs . I may consider it in the end

[Q] Getting rid of TouchWiz & Samsung UI

Hey everyone,
I love my Infuse but the only thing is I absolutely HATE TouchWiz. I love HTC's Sense but unfortunately AFAIK there isn't a way of getting that on here.
Anyways back to my main point, what is the easiest way to get rid of TouchWiz and Samsung's Dialer, E-Mail Client and SMS Client? I much prefer the stock Android version of everything so if someone could please point me in the right direction that would be great.
My phone IS rooted BTW incase that makes things easier
Thanks!
CM 7 is in the process of being ported to the infuse, check the development section - still doesn't have all bugs worked out yet, but that's your only alternative to TouchWiz

Until CM7 is available you could change the launcher and use market apps to do SMS, Email, etc...
Just delete/move or freeze the APKs using a root-enabled file explorer or Titanium Backup. Then you can install some alternative apps, lockscreens, and launchers.
Alternatively, you might want to check out some of the ROMs in the dev section. You can easily get a close-to-AOSP feel with Infused v2 and the lockscreen addon.
Yeah I'm always watching the CM7 thread to see what's new, etc.
Am I able to get the AOSP APK's for the dialer, sms and e-mail from somewhere? I would change my launcher but without the AOSP APK's I don't see the point
I am currently on Infused V2 with the lockscreen addon, just want to get rid of the Samsung feel ;-)
Thanks for everyone's help!
the dialer and contacts would be difficult to permanantly change. way back designgears tried an aosp look rom for the captivate and he wasn't able to change the dialer. you can get go contacts/dialer which is a single app much like aosp with added features and is themeable.
you can change the sms to aosp I believe but I'm not sure why you'd want to, it is really limited. there are many market apps you can use. go sms pro and handcent are very popular.
and there are many launcher in the market for you to choose. the gingerbread one from Eugene373 is same as gtg puts in his roms I believe.
I guess I will just wait until CM7 is all ready
I like simplicity, I think the Samsung SMS, E-mail and dialer are way too bloated. I look at it this way, if the main used functions of my phone are simple and basic then I won't have too many problems with the phone with daily use.

well it sounds like you might like go dialer/contacts then, it has some additional features but isn't very complicated at all. only issue is that every time it gets upgraded the defaults get cleared and you need to set them back to go contacts for like 4-5 different scenarios. it is a good app but the defaults system on android can get annoying. and I do believe aosp sms will work on this phone, just haven't seen it tried. it was done many times on the sgs phones because earlier versions of tw sms had weird problems with the time stamps, especially on custom roms, that and the theme was pretty gross.
Well I know SMS is possible for sure because I was using Refuse 1.7 before I upgraded to Infuse and it has the AOSP SMS which was nice
Hopefully CM7 gets finished up sooner than later
As mentioned, you have many options in the market...
popular launcher apps
go launcher
zeam launcher (i use on nook)
launcher pro (i use on infuse)
adw launcher (have on my son's phone)
android 2.3 launcher
SPB Shell 3D (looks like an amazing launcher)
and more
sms
chomp
go
handcent (i use)
and more
Dialers
I rarely make calls so I have not really looked into changing the dialer.

SMS preference

I don't see too many poll threads on which sms client you use... I would love if you left a reason you chose the one you do.
I use GO SMS pro because of the simplicity of it and the way the pop up looks. I actually prefer CHOMP sms pop up UI, but it lags and just isn't close to running as smoothly as GO sms Pro.
Also, if you want to post a screen shot of the theme you're using if you're happy with your theme!
Handcent > Go sms. You can text without unlocking screen with handcent. You have to unlock the screen for go sms.
Idk how much I would use that, but I am interested in that. What theme do you use?
Handcent because of being able to reply from the lockscreen without unlocking the phone.
Wow a lot more people use handcent than I realized. What theme do you use?
Stock Sense app, on InsertCoin 2.2. Nice and simple
I use stock. Never liked other apps.

I use Handcent, probably because it offers so many more options over the stock Sense app but probably because of habit also. I don't like pop-ups because of privacy issues and the Handcent seems to work the best for me.
I use GoSMS Pro. I tried Handcent for a while but I found Go to be smoother. They're almost identical in terms of features. However, Go lets you backup your texts for free. Helpful when flashing different ROMs.
i use iphone theme on Handcent with modifications.
I used to use Handcent until it started acting stupid. It worked fine & then all of a sudden started resending texts on every reboot, not sending texts properly(showed a spinning icon next to every message), etc. Now I use GoSms & I love it. All the features of Handcent with none of the bugs. The only thing I miss is the Handcent ringtone picker.
Im using an aosp mms app xboarder ported, working fine for me.
I'm surprised on how many people use stock. It doesn't offer enough features for me. I agree that handcent use to be better, but GO SMS pro has surpassed it in my opinion on the mere fact that it isn't buggy and looks a lot cleaner.
Also, its interesting no one uses Chomp SMS. Especailly if you ever use the iphone theme, chomp sms looks just like it. I loved BITEsms on my jailbroken iphone I used to have.
Used to use Chomp, now go.
just prefer the look of the stock sms app, especially when themed.

Yeah i love GoSMS's built in SMS and settings backup, i used to use only handcent but stopped mainly for that reason.
I hate stock messaging app i try i use it but get sick of it and switch. I hate the lack of customization.
I do wish, however, that text messages would still pop up on the lockscreen when using any other messaging apps

I tried GOSMS first, and saw no reason to leave it. Looks good, has a lot of cool features.

I just use stock with sms pop up

[Q] Go SMS Pro Notifications with Stock Messaging App?

I'm sure this is not possible but I want to use the Go SMS Pro notifications with the stock messaging app. I have the new HTC One. I tried Ringo Pro, but it only lets you do the Ringo icon as the alert (ugly). I also tried SMS Popup, which is OK but isn't as easy as Ringo to set up custom SMS tones.
Essentially I want custom SMS tones for individual contacts, and I want the Go SMS color notification icons (or similar ones), but I want to use the stock messaging app. I know, I know, it's probably not possible but I figured I'd check.
And if it wasn't obvious, I prefer to use stock launcher for stability's sake.

Can't you just turn off stock notifications and leave GoSMS ones on? You'll have to open the stock app whenever a text comes in, vs. using the notification, might be a bit annoying but seems workable.

Yeah I could do that, but I prefer if I can touch the notifications to go straight to the app. I think SMS Popup is my way to go, despite being a lot clunkier than Ringo
Why do u want to use the stock messaging app?

Because the HTC Sense 5 stock messaging app handles group messaging perfectly, whereas none of the after-market apps (like Handcent and Go SMS Pro) handle it as it is supposed to happen. They all involve clicking "download" or getting double notifications and it's slow. The HTC Sense 5 messaging app is quick and allows group messaging very easily.

Looking for SMS app similar to the CM10 Messenger

Are there any SMS apps in the market that allow you to reply or mark as read from the notification instead of having to open the entire application?
Found the solution: 8sms.
I really want to try 8sms but the no auto-retrieve MMS thing kinda kills it. Plus that icon is terrible!
this is the sms apk from aosp 4.3, no idea if it'll work on 4.4 or if it'll install as a normal app or it'll need putting in the system apps
