Removing icons - General Questions and Answers

I have a windows 6.5 and I want to remove some of the icons at the start page which is very ugly. Any suggestions?

Several things you can do, assuming you meant the start menu? You could simply delete the icons from your Windows\Start menu\Programs directory. Or you could replace them with better ones using an icon changer software. There are a couple of programs commonly used and available here.Search the forum for those.
Another option is to install a complete icon set Theme. There are many great ones found around the forum. Have a search around and you'll learn a lot.

take a look at the "dark passion" icon set. they are real sharp and have an elegant look to them. if you dont find something you like, delete the ones you dont like.

Customizing rltoday

How can we customize rltoday? or is creating a theme the only way possible? anyeon know? i want to remove some of the icons on there. i just downloaded the cab and the plugin is a little cluttered.
It is possible..
It is not the easiest program to customize. All of the layout is done in the "skin" XML file. There are also settings that can be accessed by pressing and holding on the today screen and selecting options. The best way to use this is to go to the developers forum, read some of the documentation, download some themes and figure out what you want to do.

Touchflo: Changing the order of icons

I have an HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium).
I love it.
The only thing that annoys me is that when I press Start to show the shortcut icons in Touchflo it does show everything and I can add, remove, etc. but I cannot change the order of icons. I cannot move icons around, drag them to a different place or whatever.
The only way to change the order, for as far as I know, is to remove something and adding it again in an empty spot. I find this a horrible waste of time. Is there an easier way to do it?

A Few Icon and Skinning Questions

I am going through and replacing the ugly default icons. JWMD doesn't see some of them, even after scanning and registering the ones that aren't registered. Games, programs in subfolders, the HTC wifi apps, and the system and settings icons are not displayed. I wish to replace these, but since JWMD doesn't see them, I don't really know how.
Also, how does one change the icons in the taskbar? I'm using Hart's 6.5 rom on an omnia...
And, does anyone know of any good iphone like icons for zsirc and putty? I'm not going for an iphone theme, but I like how the icons are all nice, big, smooth, and round.
You can change the Start Menu icons through the registry, which is explained on the Windows Phone Blog.
I know how to do that, I'm talking about chaging icons for apps that are not in the startmenu...they're in startmenu folders, and then there are the settings icons as well.
Moved as Dev & Hack Windows Themes is for releases.

So when we get 2.1 .. Will we have Motorola Droid icons?

Or are those icons exclusive to the device?
I know I can change the look of shortcuts on the home screen, but I think the application icons (when you pull up the application list) are just so incoherent like designed by many different developers ... I prefer the way the icons look on the droid.
Is there a way to change them without open home? Or will 2.1 change the look of the icons?
2.1 for the Hero will probably have HTC or Android specific icons.
Well that blows, every time I pull up my application menu ... I cringe from the incoherency of the icons ... Some are flat, some a pseudo-3D, some go for that angled look.
They're not easy on the eyes. I've looked passed it of course but if there's a way to get a coherent batch of application icons (not shortcuts) without using open home or some 3rd party application, I would appreciate it if I could be told how.
While on the subject ... So it's Motorola that is responsible for that beautiful set of icons on the droid? I thought those icons came with 2.0.

An application's icon is set by a png inside of the apk itself. Just like an icon on a program on your computer. Microsoft doesn't make those icons, the software maker does. So HTC's icons will look different from Sprint which look different from stock Android which look different from Jim Bob's Tractor App. If it makes you cringe then you could remake all the icons.

I see.
So the Droid has a coherent set of stock icons because neither Motorola nor Verizon decided to make any proprietary apps for the phone. Those are all Android applications?
As for remaking the icons ... Surely that's beyond my experience, but is it something that is technically possible? You know, just replacing the png file in the apk?

Changing Default Application Icons

I am trying to figure out how to change the icons for phone, messages, twitter, and browser into words. How would I go about doing this? I'm sure it's possible, I'm just new to android.

There is an app in the marketplace called NinjaMorph that will do it from the phone. Alternatively, you'd have to pull a copy of the app from your phone to your PC, replace the icon, and push it back to your phone via adb.
NinjaMorph is the best approach, however, I've encountered instances/apps where NinjaMorph just doesn't work. For those I went with the second option above.
On top of that you would need to create your own "word" icons in a editing program assuming you haven't already found an icon pack.
FolderOrganizer is what you're looking for. It will place instances of itself in the shortcuts menu and from there you can rename, change icons, etc., etc. I currently have over 20,000 png icons that I have collected for ObjectDock and all I do is resize the ones I want to 48x48 and copy them over to a directory I call Iconz on the SD card and I can use them whenever I go to change an icon.
Cheers...
Just to clarify... I also use Folder Organizer, but that doesn't change the default icon for the app, just the ones that show on the home screen.
If that's all you need, then Folder Organizer is great, but I came to this thread looking for a way to change the default app icons so I just wanted to clarify that point about Folder Organizer.
Think I'll take a stab at NinjaMorph. Thanks okolowicz!
