Connecting to localhost - General Questions and Answers

I've got a problem while connecting to HTTP server running on my PDA. If I use Internet Explorer to access it everything is ok. Problem is that other browsers work only if active network connection is available (Wifi or ActiveSync).
Server is my own implementation of simple HTTP 1.1 server (using Winsocks).
Please can somebody help me?
I tested it on my pda,HP Ipaq 214 running WM6.0 standard, and on MS DeviceEmulator running WM6.0 professional image both with same result.

Need help! Surfing the web from my WM6 SP ...

Hi guys,
I just bought an HP 514 with WM6 smartphone: I connect it up via activesync on my office PC that is connected in a LAN...
I'd like to surf the web (or make windows mobile or apps upddates!) from my Smartphone using the Internet connectiona and the proxy of my office LAN.
With my old Jamin (pocket pc) it works automaticaly, simply inserting my username and password for the proxy...
How can I do it with my new smartphone?

Gmail MIDlet and GPRS proxy...

I have done some searching, and have not found anything that really answers my questions. I have an HTC-P4300 and am using the Jbed MIDlet manager (same behavior with TAO). Opera Mini runs great and works fine through the system set GPRS (Edge) proxy. As expected, it also works fine when I have my connection set to "My ISP" and connected via WiFi.
My problem is with the Gmail MIDlet. It works fine in the later configuration using WiFi. It can't connect when my phone is configured to use the proxy (port 80) with GPRS. From what I can tell the MIDlet should only need http and/or https access. I can log into gmail using a browser without problems. I assume there is something going on behind the scenes I don't know about... What am I missing? Shouldn't this MIDlet be able to work with a proxy?
Any help would be wonderful! Thanks in advance and have a GREAT day!

same is happening with me
Well, I haven't found anywhere that will state it directly, including on Google's help groups, but I am guessing their new java app uses IMAP to connect to their servers. In short I don't think this will ever work with a proxied network connection. That is a true bummer!
Anyone have their old MIDlet laying around I could try? Thanks for the help!

Need WM mobile browser with SOCKS proxy support or workaround

Hello,
Im using a htc hd2 with WM6.5
Does anyone know of a mobile browser in which I can change SOCKS proxy settings - just like mozilla firefox? (ive tried minimo and fennec a3, but no good, unless I could use some addon in fennec).
I want to tell my browser to listen on port 1080 for a SOCKS connection (im port forwarding with pocketputty).
Alternatively, does a program like 'tsocks' exist for windows mobile, in which I can socksify for my mobile browser? I havent used tsocks before btw.
Or finally, is there a way to edit the registry in WM6.5 so that the browser does listen on port 1080 for SOCKS?
Thankyou,
Will
yeah...bro..i need sm workaround as well !! please read my thread if it relates !!!
Summary:
I am attempting to use a remote SSH server as a proxy for browsing the web on my htc hd2.
This is called a "Poor man's VPN" - If you have never heard of this, please read this: http ://wiki.freaks-unidos.net/ssh-port-forwarding
I'm currently using pocket putty with dynamic port forwarding to forward port 1080 on a remote SSH server back to my localhost on my device.
I cannot seem to find a mobile browser that has the ability to configure SOCKS proxy settings. I need to be able to tell the browser to use a SOCKS proxy, to listen to localhost on port 1080 which is being forwarded.
Since I havent found a browser to do this, I have tried to use proxycap to sockify a browser. I basically want to redirect the traffic coming from the ssh tunnel with proxycap to the browser even though the browser has no SOCKS support.
I dont have a technical background.
I dont know if this actually works
Is it possible to do the above? If so, how do I configure proxycap to act between the SSH tunnel and the mobile browser...
well I found a way to configure proxy settings on minimo
you type into the URL "about:config".
Then you change some entries
network.proxy.socks......
however, I ran into another problem...does wm6.5 have a problem with with localhost or 127.0.0.1???
Because i read that localhost doesnt work on wm past version 5...
how else can get a loopback address??

ProxyCap - does wm6.5 have a concept of localhost?!?!

Hey guys,
Proxycap is a "socksify" program that works on windows mobile.
Im using htc hd2 on wm6.5
I need proxycap to 'socksify' a mobile browser.
Ive successfully done this on windows XP:
I run putty, dynamically forward port 1080 from a ssh server to my localhost. Then I used proxycap to "socksify" opera.
Proxy servers
type: socks v4
hosts: localhost or 127.0.0.1
port: 1080
Tunneling Rules:
type: tunnel through proxy
proxy: localhost:1080
Program: opera.exe
I hit "OK"
Then I run my putty, log into my ssh server, I run opera. Proxycap socksifies opera, so that opera goes through my ssh server. This all works in windows xp.
Windows mobile 6.5
I want to apply the above to my windows mobile 6.5 device using pocket putty, proxycap and any browser.
Pocketputty seems to be working. I tell it to dynamically forward port 1080 just like in putty. I can log into my ssh server on it. This all works.
Proxycap settings:
Proxy servers:
type: socks v4
HOST!?!?!?!: I dont think wm6.5 has a concept of localhost or 127.0.01, I read this somewhere, Ive tried putting my device ID name in this field but that may or may not work
Tunneling rules
Name: internet explorer mobile
Type: tunnel through proxy
proxy: "deviceID name":1080
PROGRAM?!?!?!: iexplorer.exe is the executable file for windows xp for internet explorer. But does wm6.5 execute files differently? Does internet explorer mobile have an executable? whats it called? How do I search for executable files for other browsers that ive installed on my htc hd2
Thats where im stuck. Pocket putty seems to work but im not sure about the proxycap settings.
When I try the above on my htc hd2 on wm6.5
I set pocket putty to dynamically forward port 1080.
I run pocket putty, I log into my ssh server. I run proxycap, I tell it to 'socksify' skyfire.
I run skyfire.
Pocketputty gives me this error:
"Putty Fatal error
WSAEventSelect():
SOCKET_ERROR"
ok not getting this error anymore
but the connection is timing out
I log into the ssh server with pocket putty, i tell it to dynamically port forward port 1080 back to my device. Then I run proxycaps, and tell it to 'sockify' my mobile internet explorer.
Then I run internet explorer it says it couldnt find a server
When i click 'last error' in proxycaps
"Connection timed out (10060)"
Any ideas?

Windows mobile 6 VPN

I have HP iPAQ 214 PDA with Winodws mobile 6 on it. I have problems with connection over VPN to my company shared folders. I can successfully connect to internet and to my company over VPN, I can ping network computers, but I cannot acess shared folders. VPN incomming connection is configured on Windows server 2008 R2 and in list of connected users over VPN my device is listed. I tested my device on different environment - Windows server 2003 with the same settings and thing is working without any problems.
Should I config any additional settings on my Windows Server 2008, or what should I do?
Thank you and sorry for my bad english...
