Opera 10 did great. And after some tweaks it gets even faster.
Is the scrolling in froyo's browser really that choppy?
Agree, Opera is the best browsing experience (at least for me)
Not sure about Android browser as I´m a WM user...

I haven't ever seen a hi-res (!) Android phone that could scroll as fast as the iPhone 3G S... (because of the hi-res, sub-par hardware or plain lazyness on the programmers' part? Dunno...)
Opera 10 is one of the most powerful tools that are used widely for Android phone . This supports more and more comfortable for the user. I love it

I've searched this topic and surprisingly haven't found too much on it. Simply put, does anyone know what the smoothest pinch-to-zoom browser there is out there? I have the lowly HTC HERO (for only 1 more month!) and the pinch to zoom is just awful (very laggy on stock browser). I was wondering what people's experiences are on different browsers pinch to zoom smoothness (and does this directly correlate with scrolling smoothness, which is also a problem)? I honestly don't know how this will vary from phone to phone, but I'm curious as to if there are any improvements on a particular browser that I should try out? Thanks!
And I hate to compare with apple's products, but my 2nd gen ipod touch seemed to be very smooth on pinch to zoom, even compared 1ghz single core android phones. I have a hard time believing it's the hardware that's holding android phones back, it has to be the software. And the question is, is it the browser or the operating system?
There's no hardware acceleration in the browser which is why most are not smooth. The Galaxy S and S2 both have GPU acceleration in the browser which makes scrolling very smooth at the expense of a bit more battery life.
Pinch to zoom is smooth as hell on my DHD MIUI. I'm using the stock MIUI browser (Miren i think) and Dolphin Browser HD 5 beta 2
Opera mobile for me is much smoother than the stock browser or any other browser for that matter. Firefox mobile is a good choice aswell.

for your phone i would say Opera browsers, when i had my MT3G opera was all i used and it was very smooth
So I've seen a lot of benchmarks of the Sensation's stock browser and it appears to be quite slow, in fact often slower than 1Ghz single core devices. It also has microlags when scrolling on graphically intensive pages.
I managed to find a screenshot of the Sensation running pre release firmware and it actually had a higher Sunspider score of ~4500ms see:
http://www.slashgear.com/htc-sensation-benchmarks-with-sunspider-and-quadrant-12145810/
Is there something inherently wrong with the Sensation's firmware that means the browser doesn't use both cores? shouldn't it at least be twice as fast as say the Samsung Galaxy S?
I think perhaps HTC have not made a very good browser because after searching I found this:
http://onlygizmos.com/android-powered-htc-incredible-s-review/2011/04/
The Incredible S also has a terrible Sunspider score.
If you don't try Sunspider you can also try Browsermark which is a more comprehensive browser test that includes all sorts of animations.
Btw my Sensation gets the following scores:
Dolphin HD
Sunspider: 5106.4ms +/- 2.7%
Browsermark: 40735
Opera Mobile
Sunspider: 2630.2ms +/- 2.5%
Browsermark:26832
Stock Browser:
Sunspider: 5749.2ms +/- 2.4%
Browsermark:38424
Firefox Beta:
Sunspider: 2520.0ms +/- 2.7%
Browsermark: 43408
Good little insight

It's HTC's browser - look at Firefox and Opera. For reference my G2X with CM7 Stock browser get's 2300ms on Sunspider 0.9.1.
And Opera on G2X gets 2000ms
The Sensation hardware is up to the task, it's just the HTC browser
Why is the stock browser so bad?

Definitely something up with the browser, I suspect its down to something HTC did Lokhor.
If I clear the cache in the Sensation and SGSII and load the same page the SGSII is a lot faster. It would be interesting to have a pure stock Android 2.3.3 browser too, I supect it will be a bit faster than the Sensation, but not as quick as the SGSII (which Samsung improved with hardware acceleration, the reason it can play 1080p flash in the browser smoothly).
There is a serious problem with text entry in the Sensation stock browser too when its in Desktop UA mode (actually this affects all browsers I've tried).
I've switched to Opera for now, as much as anything because its easier to switch to mobile UA where text entry is required.

I also use Opera Mobile but it doesn't render all pages correctly
It's because the browser isn't hardware accelerated I believe.
Stock browser is ok for me. The only problem is its always running at back. Need to kill it every time.

Opera Mobile for sure.
Skyfire is where its at for me!

No way would the stock browser be faster. The vanilla stock browser is by far the worst browser, especially in gingerbread. It's stuttery and choppy as hell. It's the worst thing about the Nexus S, and is one of the reasons why I now own a Sensation. I'd take the HTC browser any day over vanilla.
That said, hardware acceleration in the browser like that found in the SG2 would be very welcome. I don't think you'll see a browser overhaul until ice cream sandwich though. Prove me wrong HTC.
For more speed, Opera mobile is excellent.
I dont really like Opera. Lol.
What.are other browsers that are hardware accelerated?

could be possible to installathe SGS II browser on our O3D?
cause i hate the standar browser, its slow and the bottom bar robs me the 20% of screen on horizontal mode...
SGS II browser, has nice multitouch effects which i think that could make our device to feel much softer..
I very much doubt it will make any difference, all browsers I tried on the GS2 when I had one were good, its down to the phone really.
I tend to use Opera Mobile on mine as its the best out imo its smooth and fast, I also used this on the GS2.

you are right, opera mobile goes well, but i'm an effect-fanatic,and i love, the bounce effect when you reach the finish of the page,or navigating, trought menus...why lg its so shabby?
Use Dolphin HD browser, best far I have used with extensions: Fullscreen, Adblock, translation, xmarks, lastpass. What else would you need in mobile browser.
Dolphin browsers just don't feel as smooth to me, certainly not as smooth as Opera Mobile.
I believe that the browser has very smooth functionality in the sgs2. The opera is good but comes second to normalcy.

The SGSII browser is made for the SGSII and requires its hardware (Exynos Chipset) for it to work as it's hardware accelerated I believe.
Also I think it requires the touchwiz framework.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe yo are right and the browser just don't work on our o3d,but would be insteresting at least try to make it work...i'm with you with the touchwiz framework,it' possible that wpulde be a requeriment,i already talk with a rom cooker to see if he could implement this 2 features that would make our phone a lot smoother ...
This was one of the most interesting tests iv'e seen so far, i had no idea that the Google Chrome beta browser performed this good!
Chrome is great! I use it as my daily driver browser and its awesome. The only drawback is not being able to play flash content. However, the instances I need to view that content, I just load up one of my standby browsers. Being, Dolphin HDand Opera Mobile.

Browser Mark looks good.
Sunspider...so and so...scored 1900 ms before on the old Atrix with 2.2 lol
Opera still better overall.
Battery was low on the ONE X which have meant it was doing the tests in power saving mode as well
Good comparision.... i will use chrome too
chrome....the most amazing browser ever...

You should use an app called Flashify if you don't already.
Chrome Beta is well beta, Safari on iOS is usually fairly behind on the WebKit updates.
I have a One X and used to have an iPhone , and I have to say Safari on iOS is fairly decent. Between Chrome Beta and Safari your not going to get major differences, since they use the same rendering engine under hood
Love Chrome Beta!

Hey
I'm wondering what browsers do you use on your tablets. I'm using aosp one for most of the time but it's pretty slow nowadays and I'm looking for something new. I tried chrome/chromium based browsers and they're fast but ram usage is huge and that makes them work bad with bigger pages.
What browser gives you the best experience on your tab 2?
Sleipnir is my best browser give it a go to see by yourself

I prefer UC browser-fast download.
It is pretty fast and it also has a good media player which supports all formats.
It additionally has a unique night mode which is pretty good.
It also gives us live scores of any sport if asked,Moreover it's only around 18mb in playstore for free.
