Same here. There is no mistaking the Rhodium keyboard. It is superb and you can feel when you may have hit the wrong key. It wasn't till I got this phone that I started using primarily full words while texting
hmm so many choices ! right now im using a Nokia xpress music 5300 lol I miss my Android so much and my bricked phone is just there sitting and waiting, hoping someone finds a fix
wait a bit till desire with keyboard comes out...it will be called vision and since desire is basically N1's twin....vision will be the same but with qwerty keyboard which is similar to rhodiums, check here http://htcpedia.com/news/htc-vision.html
although that photo might be just a photoshop artwork (someone combined silver desire with rhodium)...well i took a few looks and it is photoshopy...it seems to me that resolution of the desire's part is a bit higher than the rhodium's,the edges are a bit smudged, and there is a white glowish area found at outer sides of both hinges...also,look just a bit above the "4" key and...it looks like it is desires volume down button...which is quite stupid because it already has one volume up/down button which is found on the rhodium part....

Hey Guys
im a long time winmob user and currently own a HTC Touch Diamond. I am fed up with this phone, even with cooked roms its still slow in TF3D and, its so easily scratched that after a month its covered in small scratches.
I swore after my TyTN I would never buy another HTC device and didn't until this phone ... and now I remember why I said I would never do that!
So, I need a phone of similar specs to the Omnia but would like a higher resolution screen. Also, the reviews say the Omnia is buggy so, which phone should I go for?
i plan on trying out the x1
not out yet ,..... and its a HTC device so thats a big fat no (probably)

its a HTC manufactured, but not a HTC device dear. Check out its reviews
dear????
Correct - its HTC hardware/build/components that are ....er ..... don't think im able to swear so, I will just settle for complete crap. HTC software and hardware "features" are great!
Example, awesome 640*480 screen on touch diamond, gets scratched to hell too easily.
If your screen gets scratches, buy a damn screen protector. There's so many available.
wow .... such aggression ..... Why are you so angry? Not like I'm having a pop at you or anyone else is it?
Screen protectors dull the screen so no thanks. The screen is just ONE example, not the ONLY example. I can list some more if you like?
And I didn't have this problem with my Tosh G900....
Hi,
I just found this today.
It is a htc magic with a circular zoom in the browser, photo and map apps.
Also there is a soft keyboard that rotates, landscape and protrait.
The operating system is the android so maybe it could be incorporated into the next JF mod.
The video is in French but you will understand it by watching.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fdXATNPpZM
This is really cool.
Good lookin out
keyboard and rotating zoom look good!
How come this feature isn't in the public cupcake branch??
I would really like that zoom! Hopefully it will come to our phones. Other than that, it looks so much like the Dream, that if we get those features, I will still prefer my phone with the built in keyboard. It's always better to have a choice of which keyboard you want to use.

Absolutely.
It seems to me the display has significantly more pixels than dream, do we know anything about the Magic hardware?

No, the screen size and resolution are the same as the g1.
The Dream caught a lot of flak because of its design...
But, I wouldn't give it up for anything. I will never have a phone without a physical qwerty keyboard unless they just don't make one.
I like the combination of the trackball, capacitive touch screen, keyboard, etc.
I even like the chin because it keeps the screen from getting scratched. I have several friends that scratched their Icrap because the screen wasn't sufficiently protected.
But, I have to say I have big hands with long fingers. My wife had problems because she is small with small hands.
Looking forward to the new features that cupcake will (hopefully) bring out to the OS.
hey,
i am stuck between desire S and incredible S.
i absolutely love desire s unibody design, and i dont really care about the wifi prob (besides there is some kind of fix to it as well), only concerns are ... the build quality: lots of ppl are talking about loose battery covers and screen not fitting in place lol, also the camera seems pretty lame...but the form factor/ screen size- perfect !
but incredible S... seems to have more developers to get the root (tho i think it will be ported to desire s as well afterwards... yea ?), but its only got froyo, not gingerbread, and its a bit too large, and not so darn beautiful >.<
and hows the music quality through the headphones (good stereo ? bass ?) and loudspeaker (no distortion ? loud ?) ?
only drawback- the bootloader on these phones and sense UI... would love CM 7 possibility
thanks in advance
Build quality problems are only appearing in certain locations eg. the uk seems fine and i would expect a exchange under warranty if there were any problems i personally dont find that a concern.
Lack of dev actvity seems a concern i dont know why this doesnt seem like a popular phone but i like it as it has the perfect screen size for me.
Will echo comments made by user above.
Had the phone for a month now and love it. I prefer the size of desire s.
Looks like finding a local un locking shop who have an xtc clip or sending phone away will be quickest and cheapest route to getting s-off and therefore root.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
well... i dont mind too much about root thing.. except for uninstalling some stuff, i can always put on adw instead of sense .. as long as it runs smooth im fine.
but now im still leaning towards incredible S a bit more imo... the more i look at it the cooler it looks xD
tho i see ppl telling IS reboots often, and it also has froyo..
but then again DS is gingerbread, but people are talking about bad build quality.. hate to see such complaints on a unibody design. also the wifi prob is alteast some of a concern.
edit; the size doesnt seem to be THAT much larger on the IS.. so i really dont know now
grrrrr i hate choosing >.<

Are you sure that thats not simply linked to the same software issue that the DS has with its own buttons lighting/not lighting, which is caused by the ambient light levels detection controlling when the buttons are lit?

Love the DS to bits. Some says it's not a worthy upgrade to old Desire. But for me it's head over heels better.
But, if IS has unibody it could have been a dif'rent story.
Desire S has better battery life... But it suffers from the qaueaky back cover!
The Inc. has SRS though, desire doesnt (software only) The Inc. has gingerbreag now

about some error in the body, i think not all the desire S will have that problem, an if u have that problem, lets say in 3 months you still have warranty right?

THIS IS THE WORST, MOST SHODDILY CONSTRUCTED PHONE THAT COULD EVER EXIST (Not)
The "build quality" of the phone is fine. There are a few problems associated with being early adopters, that a small fraction of people on XDA have. As far as I know, everyone with major issues had them resolved by returning their phone, in store and getting it replaced on the spot.
There are different displays one bye AUO and one made by Sharp, if you're having trouble and prefer either display you can go in-store and exchange it, after telling them the issues you're having with your phone.
Furthermore many of the so called "issues" with build quality are BS manufactured by XDA-ers. Like:
"If I turn of my screen and hold it at a 45 degree angle while shining a flashlight at it I can see a spec of dust under the screen, I'm really really worried ='("
or my personal favorite:
"When I press down on the buttons on the bottom of my screen I hear a slight creaking sound WTF HTC!?!?"
My personal second favorite is THE LAGGY SENSE ISSUE, which essentially goes like this :
"I saw a video on youtube and the HTC EVO 3D runs the HTC Sense homescreen carousel milliseconds faster and smoother than the HTC Sensation, WTF HTC !!! IS THIS WHAT WE'RE PAYING FOR!?!?!?"
- I would like to note that this issue only came into existence after said video made its way to the forums and someone decided that it was an "issue" that a slightly newer phone, with slightly better hardware and a slightly more optimized ROM, ran sense 3.0 slightly better than our phones do at the moment.
- They aren't buttons... this is a touch screen phone and just because they look like buttons doesn't mean that they should be pressed like buttons.
- Wifi-Signal attenuation while holding the phone, in landscape, a particular way IS real, but only if you are far away from your router. ALL phones experience signal attenuation when all or parts of the radios are covered, our phones do not lost Cellular data signal when held in landscape as has been erroneously reported in some places.
Now I will tell you about my experiences with the phone. Both cameras perform poorly in low light conditions and other than that it's a beast of a phone. Absolutely phenomenal.Strangely enough, I don't hear many people talking about this, actual issue where the phone is not performing as one might realistically expect it to perform.
I got my device on launch day and haven't had one "issue" yet. I have seen and others have noted that some dust can get inside of the phone's case, near the headphone jack. I would consider this another NON-issue as it has not been shown to cause any issues. Furthermore dust frequently gets inside of electronics, that's why the good lord above invented compressed air. Some XDA-ers inhale it then try to find issues with their devices, I will use it to clean my phone in a few months, the same way that I do to my desktop PC or the way my little brother does to his gaming consoles.
It's a terrible phone if you only use it at 45 degree angles, in the dark, while shining a flashlight on it, with the display turned off as you press extra hard on the touchscreen (because YOU believe they are buttons to be pressed and not a screen to be touched), using your phone a mile away from your home router, in landscape while completely covering the top of the phone and watching videos of HTC EVO 3D's performing slightly better and getting jealous.
If you use your phone like a normal end-user or even a power user and NOT a beta tester in a laboratory setting then the phone is amazing.
I rest my case.
Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated.

I am not sure what these guys are referring to as having questionable build quality. If anything that would apply to the G2 and that was my last phone...well, right before the G2x horror.
You should be quite happy with the Sensation, if you have nothing against HTC Sense, as it is a very good device. Very good. I am certain it will be bested in some way by another high end Android phone in a few months, or weeks (there's always something new) but I am flat out thrilled to be using one right now.

Having had HTC HERO and A HTD HD7 I was more of inclined to go for the SENSATION,
But after hovering around both threads decided for the GAlaxy s2 due to better back camera and front camera(2mp) and also for the fact that it came with bootloader unlocked
ANd I guess that was the best decision I made cause of one more reason being....
You can flash the latest firmwares on samsung Devices with ODIN without the NEED TO ROOT which I think is really cool.
I am already on a leaked version of 2.3.4 running beautifully with gtalk video working really great and have not even rooted my phone yet
Just my thoughts.........
In general, the phones I've had before had really snappy keys that had a lot of feedback when pressed. Unfortunately, I'm not getting the same thing on my myTouch's keyboard. It works in such a way that I put a little bit of force on the key, feel no feedback, and see the key appear in whichever text box I'm typing in.
Is this the way it was designed, or is it a hardware defect? I'd really like to know because I am getting ready to root it, and I'd rather not have a subpar phone. The keyboard is one of the main reasons I really wanted this phone, but I've now grown accustomed to typing on the screen because of how odd it is to type on the keyboard.
If it matters, I have the khaki color.
I don't recall ever having feedback when using the hardware keyboard, and what you described above sounds like normal operation.
How do you like the khaki one?
I've noticed this as well. I've returned several phones, not for this reason, but my current phone is the only one where I get a good click or compression on the keys. Otherwise, sometimes it feels like I didn't press the key, but the keystroke still shows up. The g2 imo gives a lot of feedback.
I would have preferred the black, but I do think that the Khaki does look very nice. It has a nice contrast to the colors, but manages to look good.
As for the keyboard, I'm disappointed to hear that. My sisters mytouch 3g slide had a keyboard that gave a lot of feedback. I see no reason why it would be gone from these models... In any case, it's a fantastic phone otherwise.
i was kind of fooled by the dummy model phones in the Tmo store- they seem to have a real nice, more-raised keyboard. then when i got the phone i was kind of dissappointed that the keys were pretty flat. i went back and a guy told me that the dummy models are not exactly the same as the real models, that they are built more durable, to withstand all the touching and handling that people will do to it in the stores. i guess that makes sense.. i should have complained more i guess.. maybe i'll go back, lol.
I played around with them too, but I didn't notice any real difference between the display unit and my own. I suppose that some people get lucky with their units.
If you want to trade your khaki for a black I'd be more than happy to but yea my phone provides a little feedback although not as much as desired. It takes some time to get used to. But overall this phone is the first one i fell in love with, and i dont want to change it until it becomes completely obsolete

the MTS3G was much better (as others have said) the keys on that phone almost seemed to "snap" like a proper keyboard.
Although the layout of keys is better on the 4G slide (with the exception of the <back> button too close to the spacebar) , but the keys themselves really suck - feels like im typing on a some cheap calculator.
Also (being like a calculator) find it hard to type fast on the 4G slide.... with the tops of the keys flat (as opposed to the concave [dome'd] keys on 3G slide). The flat keys make you hit the wrong key sometimes, even with people with small hands.
in summary the old keyboard was much better..... but performance sucked. 4G slide much better faster, better camera, more storage... --just sad it has such a crappy keyboard...
My phone got better over time. My top row of keys did not have much of a click when I pressed em initially. Not all mt4gs are made the same. You can probably exchange it for another one if your keyboard is bad. You might have better luck

Having used all sorts of HTC phones with keyboards since my first Blue Angel I have to say that my old TouchPro2 had the best keyboard. MT4GS keyboard feels like it was put there in haste. Awfully constructed, no tactile feedback, i keep hitting the .com key because in their infinite wisdom they put it right before the A key, the space bar key is hit or miss and it is NOT centered. I am finding i have to retrain myself with this thing to use my left thumb to hit the space bar instead of my usual right. Before I clould type long emails on the phone, with this one I find i am not typing nowhere near as much. And would it kill HTC to put the 4 directional keys????

i have a terrible time trying to type on this thing. i, also, end up using the soft keyboard and just sorta look at the trackpad and hardware keyboard as a fail-safe in case of magnetizer failure. such was the fate of my beloved hd2 (leo) twice.
