i have a sprint touch pro 2 and i wanted to take it to straight talk plan ? can i buy a phone from walmart and clone the straight talk phone to be the touch pro 2 ??? thanx in advance
I could tell you, but then we'd both have to be banned from this website. Cloning ESN is illegal as far as we are concerned.
If you answer if he can or not you would get banned?
It is possible but illegal
thanx for all your replies . so since the whole cloning thing is illegal on this site lets skip it . say i got the phone to register with straight talk . what about the settings inside the phone . what should they be ? any idea?
thanx
Well now that ST (ST= Straight Talk) sells sim cards for $15 the answer is yes but no cloning needed. It only works with the $45 unlimited everything plan. Just buy one sim card and put it in the Sprint TP2. Also buy one free ST phone that comes with the $45 refill card. Then go here and follow instructions to sim unlock the TP2. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-tp2-...us-touch-pro-2-cid-security-sim-unlocker.html,
Pay around $20 to sim unlock your Touch Pro 2...
Use the $45 refill card to to activate the sim card you paid $15 for and sell the cheep phone you got for free for $20. Do this every month if its worth your time. Depending on the free phone that comes with the $45 card you may get more then $20 for it.
Its better then cloning the phone because this sim card will work in any unlocked phone. Will work with a locked phone if its a T-Mobile or AT&T phone. I see people say it works with the Sprint I phone also.
Only thing is the sim card will not work in a Straight talk phone. I just tryed taking the ST sim card out of my Sprint TP2 and putting it in the free phone they gave me. It said something about putting in an unlock code and gave me 5 tries? It said 911 calls only. The phone did not do this when I put in my JOLT Sim card.
I guess cloning a cheep phone would allow you to use ST"s cheaper money per minute refill cards.

Oh one more thing. My internet is very slow. It works but its slower then Sprint EVDO and even slower then Sprint 1X. The Sprint TP2 only supports slow internet speed when using the sim card.
I bet some very educated person could create a flash to fix this but with every one going to the Android and the I phone I doubt this person will take the time to provide us with the flash. Microsoft has committed suicide with there smart phones and I wont be a part of it for much longer.
PS also my MMS is trying to fetch the photo from sprint so I cant send or receive any MMS.. Regular text messaging works.
Im still searching and having trouble finding how to change this setting.

Hello all!
I can't seem to get my fuze working here in the philippines..
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Is you Fuze unlocked or are you using you ATT Sim Card? If you are using ATT you needed to tell ATT before you went to the PI. If it's unlocked and you have a PI SIM are you using he original ATT ROM. If you are you need to hand jam the connection settings or get your hands on the HTC connections program.
You will need to unlock your Fuze in order to use a non-AT&T SIM card. Otherwise, you will need to roam on one of the carriers in the Philippines that has a roaming agreement with AT&T. Contact AT&T to enable roaming on your account (roaming charges will apply).
Fortunately there appears to be good GSM and 3G coverage in Philippines. Links for more information:

Phone is still locked and still using the ATT sim card. I guess im outta luck while I'm here then?

You're not out of luck at all. Just call AT&T and tell them you can't use AT&T while you are down there and you need to use a local SIM. If all goes according to plan they will give you the unlock code.
To unlock your phone all you have to do is get a local SIM card pop it in and enter the unlock code you just got from AT&T. Your phone will now work at a fraction of the cost to make local calls.
Definitely get the unlock code and local sim card. "Charges will apply" is a real understatement. I was out of the country earlier this year and went with AT&T international roaming rather than a local sim. I came back to a $2000 bill. My fault completely - I wasn't paying attention to my usage. You can check rates on AT&T's site.

While it's not like being at home, ATT will sell you international data plans (iPhone) of 24 mb, 100 mb or 200 mb per month at a rate much lower than just roaming without a plan.

Everyone is correct, call ATT and see if they will give you the unlock code. If not, it is worth it to purchase a code on ebay or spend the extra for the software here on XDA developers to unlock. The ATT charge is $2.49/minute. A local card is really cheap as I remember from the last time I was in the PI.
So do I just call the customer service # from a landline in the PI? Or will I be able to call cust.serv. from the fuze?
Better to play it safe and use a calling card with rates you know you can monitor.
Hi all,
I will be traveling to Jamaica soon and would like to be able to use my phone while there. At a minimum, I would like to at least be able to browse the web and check email. I currently have the unlimited data plan with Verizon. At first glance, it looks like they want to charge $129/mb. That's INSANE! At that rate, i'd be scared to even turn my phone on for fear it might accidently sync with exchange and download 20 meg of email. I've read some on this forum about unlocking the sim card so i can use the phone on another network. Should i consider that for this trip? What would i gain? What's involved? Just swap the sim card? Thanks in advance!
Call 611, and ask for global services. Tell them you want to unlock your phone because you want to use your phone with a different sim card in Jamaica. Then just buy a local SIM card for use with the phone. I don't know how the data works but that's probably your best bet.
FYI, VZ will only unlock if you have been a customer for 6 months or more in good standing.
i've been looking to do the same thing to avoid the $1:50/min roaming fee from sprint. i know digicel is the local service in jamaica. i've found a few vendors on the web that sell sim cards and time but still the fee for data can be still a bit high. i'm not sure if it's better to buy off the web before i get there or just hit a local provider when i hit the island. below are a few links i found to compare for buying the card and service time.

What do I need to do to make sure I have reliable voice and data for the next month while in Europe? I have a rooted D2G running Fission 2.4.3 and have grown quite fond of using the wireless tether to connect my Xoom and avoid extra data charges with another contract.
What is the best thing to do to get similar service in Europe? Do I still need to call Verizon to unlock my Sim? My company pays my Verizon bill, so I am not so price sensitive, but I use alot of data.
Should I just buy a Sim when over there and use their plan?
What the best way to do this?
I don't have a d2g, but I know gsm phones need to be unlocked with a code and then when you're in anothr country or whatever, you can just get a pre-paid sim from there until you come back.
But its verizon and motorola so I'm sure there's some hurdles to overcome
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Well - it very much depends on what you mean under 'a lot of data'. If your company is OK paying 4 figure phone bills - then don't bother - just make sure you activate the SIM card before you leave (with Verizon).
If you think money matters afterall, call Verizon, get the unlock code(s) for your phone and just buy a local provider prepaid SIM when you go there (which I am prettty sure you could expense too and company will be more than happy to pay compared to some outrageous roaming bill you can rack up).
A word of advice on unlocking: call Verizon well before you leave and make sure codes they give you are working. To try the code - simply insert any SIM in the phone (borrow firend's att/tmob sim for couple of minutes, or buy used sim for $1 from ebay for example). Inserting the foreign sim will propmt the unlocking menu where you have to enter the code. Once you do it, if phone says "successful" - you are good to go (you will not get service in US with any SIM no matter active or not or what provider - US or not - you put in. Don't be concerned about this - once you get out of the States everything will work fine.
I just got a used droid charge, i am not a verizon customer, i use page plus. this phone uses a sim card, which i dont have.
Is there anyway to use this without a sim card?
How to get a sim card?
I got 175 invested in this and it looks like i could make a good profit on ebay from it
can i get a sim card from pageplus or straight talk?
was at the verizon store and they would activate it but my page plus plan is so much cheaper, i get by with my 100 meg of data each month just fine.
PagePlus doesn't currently support 4G phones. The only way to use it is to activate it with VZW.

Hey,
I'm recently got an infuse off contract, rooted it, etc, but I haven't been able to make myself transfer my service too it from my other phone. I'm really torn, as it is a great phone but ehhh.
Anyway.
I'm just wondering if there is some way I can use this phone on a pre paid network or something. I looked it up and saw straight talk was perhaps an option, but it seems very confusing.
Thanks.
well you could use simple mobile. (they have ads on this site alot) you could the infuse unlocking guide to unlock your phone and use it on this service. they use t mobiles towers and have 4g (hspa+) in certain areas. their plans are 40 unlimited talk and text, 50 unlimited talk text and 2g data, and 60 unlimited talk text 3g/4g data. you should check them out.hope all goes well my friend.
thank you very much! are there any cheaper options? do you know anything about straight talk?
can i use it on att month to month?
Well simple mobile is one of the cheapest prepaid gsm carriers around. And I know of straight talk. But the only straight talk smart phone is the nokia e71 I believe and that's the only straight talk phone that uses a sim card. So you would have to buy a 200+ phone JUST to get the straight talk sim card out. And yes you can use simple mobile from month to month but after 30 days of no payment they will take your number and deactivate your sim. And another good cheap prepaid option is walmarts family plan. The only thing is to start to see savings you would have to have multiple lines that's why it's good for families. Finally you could check out h20 wireless solutions they have similar rates to simple mobile but they use att towers.... Whew....that was allot of typing....lol

Based on conversations on IRC with a ST user:
If your SIM was taken from one of th $200 Nokias, you can use in the Infuse. ST is a Tracfone reseller, which uses AT&T's network.
SIMs from all other ST phones are specifically locked to the phone.
ALSO: If you use a SIM from one of the $200 Nokias, you MUST keep the Nokia. If that phone is ever activated with another service, ST will drop service on your SIM.
Edit: Note, I'm an AT&T contract user, all of the above are hearsay from IRC a month or two ago.
i believe you need a $200 nokia smartphone on strait talk but never sell the nokia! the sim is locked to the imei somehow and if the nokia is activated again the old sim is deactivated. also i think strait talk is a reseller of many carriers, they have cdma phones and a few of the nokia smart phones are on t-mobile sim cards from what i understand. you can try it but i think ifg the sim has a "t" on it then you cant use it, only problem is you have know way to know which sim will be in the phone you are buying.
many of those prepay services have one of a number of methods to lock the phone to their network. do as much research as posible before dropping cash on a device that might be useless
I though Att itself has a pay as you go with no contracty plain also tat works for this for for $5 data (10 mb ha) and $.010 a min talk.

So theoretically, you could buy the 200 phone, and buy the cheap ass phone......in separate transactions, from Wal-mart and then use the expensive sim card, but put the cheap sim card in the expensive phone pkg and return the phone......only if you are evil!
I understand you could use the GoPhone plans, but you will need a new sim card, and also have to have a data plan to go with it, not sure how much the Simple Mobile plans are they talk about, but your looking at around 55-60$ for GoPhone plans with minimum data. 50$ unlimited talk and text and 5$for 10mb. Tops is 25$for 500mb, thats still not a lot of data though. I think 10mb for a phone is a joke, in my opinion. Maybe check out the Simple Mobile, you will have to unlock your phone for that though. Instructions for that are XDA.

No. If the expensive phone is EVER activated with another SIM, the expensive SIM you're using will get deactivated according to everything I've heard.

Yeah but if the phone is returned, after it has been opened, then its not returned to the shelf. I think it would be considered refurb. I dont know, but they would probably reassign the imei to another sim. Dont know. I think I will just keep my edge speed in the hope that when att buys t-mobile that I will finally gtr hspda.
