SPB Backup - ROM Upgrade Mode - General Topics

Below is from the SPB Backup user manual. I even found a specific reference of upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5 (which is what I want to do). Has anyone tried backing up 6.1, flashing the 6.5 ROM, and then restoring from the 6.1 backup? It sounds like this is what the manual suggest you can do. Is that possible?
Any Ideas?
SPB User Manual - Device and ROM Upgrade Modes - Now you can safely upgrade your device ROM or change your device and seamlessly restore your data. SPB Backup will automatically detect if the restore process is being performed between different devices or ROM versions and prompt you to select the upgrade mode to perform.
HTC TP2 - T-Mobile
WM 6.1 Prof - Stock ROM

Device doesn't boot - How to know the ROM version ?

I'll probably be obliged to make a hard reset because of a boot problem. WM6.0 is installed on the device, but I'm not sure that the ROM is WM6.0.
In fact, the device is a HTC Herald (purchased recently with a very low price because this is the end of the product) and I'm not sure that the ROM is WM6 because of the age of this product.
Is it possible to have a device with WM6 installed and the ROM with WM5 ?
Because, in that case, I'll get WM5 after the reset... ! And I have no disc with WM6.
If you have WM6 on installed a hard reset will not bring you back to WM5. A hard reset restores the installed ROM to its original settings. If this device has been upgraded to WM6 a hard reset will not reset your OS to WM5.
Hard reset with same OS and see if that way corrects the problem, then you will be able to see the ROM version, if not try another one
Goo luck,
That's Ok for the WM version
I got the WM6.0 after the hard reset, but I didn't remember how to do to modify the file shellres.dll.0409.mui : I can't change the read-only property.
I'm creating a new question...
use Resco Explorer (not freeware) or Total CommanderCE (freeware)
Resco Explorer :
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/
Total CommanderCE :
http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm
I'm using Total Commander but ...
... I cannot change the property
search the forum for shellres.dll.0409.mui, then just cab it up and install it back in to ur device

Copy my contact

I've two phone, O2 Atom and HTC Touch, running WM5 and WM6.1,
how to I copy my contact from Atom(WM5) to Touch(WM6.1)?
I can't sync using pc bcoz my Atom usb connection is not working.
Is there any application that can copy all contact in my Atom into one file and bluetooth to my Touch? I've been thinking using the Sprite Backup to backup on my Atom and then pass the backup file to my Touch and recover back, will it work? Both using different windows mobile.
download PIMBackup 2.8 from the forum, backup your contacts, and reload them on your touch using PIMBackup
is it work for different WM? and is there any where to backup my MMS on WM5 (atom) and recover it back in WM6.1(Touch)? Using PIMBackup as well?
it works for all versions of WM.. as far as i know..
and yes, you can port from different versions.
oh ok.... thanks a lot for the help

System Restore utility for Windows Mobile

Hi guys,
Is there a System restore utility for Windows mobile.. like the one we have for Windows PC.
It would be really usefull as we all keep xperimenting with our phones..
System restore would be better than Hard Reset..
Moved as not software release.
SPB Backup\Sprite Backup you will still have to hard reset but will get you back to current state.

[Q] How retain sync info when restore prior system partition / flash winmo device ROM

I use Acronis to restore my system partition from time to time (running Vista Ultimate 64).
I have an HTC TP2 windows mobile device. I flash the ROM from time to time.
MWDC is used to keep the devices in sync
Restoring a prior system partition to my desktop or flashing the ROM of my phone seems to affect the sync-related-data that WMDC utilizes to determine what needs to be synced.
Can anyone explain to me what sync-related-data WMDC uses and where this data is stored on my desktop and on my phone. My objective is to back this data up each time before I restore my system partition and before I flash my phone's ROM. Then I can restore this sync-related-data before I do the next sync so that WMDC doesn't "hiccup"
I hope someone understand my question and can help me to accomplish this.
NOTE: Exchange is NOT involved in my situation.
With Regards-
Sam
