Proof? As the HD2 is out for more than half of a year now and nobody has been able to get Linux/Android working properly on HD2, it definitely seems to be imppossible.

at the moment i think they are still trying to get LINUX working on a HD2, once thats been done (there has been some break through) then they can start looking at porting Android...its gonna take a fair while yet , if (and its a big IF) its even possible.
Working Kernel
htc_linux
So where are all the #android builds for #hd2 ? Now that we have the working #linux kernel, chefs are letting android fanboys down
That's from the htc_linux Twitter account.

ofcourse not, but it's surely not impossible. The hard part was having a working kernel which they do now. it should be easier from now on.
FAQ
*the tmobile us hd2 is the same htc leo as sold in different places in the world. the advertised hardware differences are only marketing talk
*It's known that there are problems booting the kernel with certain AMSS versions. with 2.08 or newer radios it works
*To write a driver for the leo touchscreen we are looking for a datasheet. Name is "Elan B81_". <<<=== any help still welcome
*We are basing on the htc nexus one and codeaurora kernel now. we are aware there are kernel sources for other qsd8k devices (incredible/desire/bravo/..)
*Many drivers are working already and at some point we will have a very good port
*Yes, android will work

I think most people in this thread, myself included, even if they would like to see Android ported to the HD2, are tired of people asking the same question over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.
I went to tmobile at the mall and i had asked them if i could play with the hd2 before buying one, and the guy had android on his... i'll try to go back and get pics or vids of it.
htc evo has got the same mother board of htc hd2...just let's wait some porting . that's it (who really wants android, can sell his own hd2 and buy an android)

Are there any plans for this from HTC?
Will we be able to upgrade the rom?
Probably not from HTC.. but thats what XDA is for!
Once people start buying the Maple in the U.S. (its going to be on practically every carrier) then you won't have to worry about HTC's ROM updates.
I'm sure someone will cook up a great ROM for the Maple once the device becomes popular- and it will.
maybe u can help us find a stock rom.
i already sent out the word to NRZ..he's gonna look into it
and mbavarian already took interest in the device. he made a thread about it..check it out!

You never know. When the original Dash came out we got an official upgrade from WinMo 5 to 6 a few months later. Maybe they will do the same for the Dash 3G from 6.1 to 6.5. Talking about the T-Mobile versions of course.

I have an actual HTC Rep through my Sprint Sales rep here in the US. We'll name him DP. I have access to HTCChampions.com and have yet to find any indication of this, i've requested the information from DP himself, and hope to hear back soon.
*Edit:
I just received a call, he said the only phone slatted for the Windows Mobile 6.5 Upgrade that he's aware of is the TouchPro2. Truthfully it sounded like he didn't know himself, he stated that the version of Windows 6.5 only brought a second browser (Opera) to avoid the "Anti-Trust" issues Micro$oft has been facing. He said that he has spoke to Sprint Corp and they've decided to hold of till Windows 7 before making any large changes.
PS, he called back with the information, and i was unable to get it recorded
Believe what you will, but between the HTC Site and his comments the only versions of 6.5 will be those that are cooked here.

Haha same here.
But honestly though every operating system has some type of semi-severe problem. For example Windows registry, dll's, and NTFS. Linux's ridiculous amount of distros (I use Super OS personally), over dependency on the CLI, and horrendous looking default themes that put most people off of it. Apple's price gouging, security by obscurity, and closed off development platform.

For us tech people 100+ distros isn't a bad thing, but tell a commoner to use stock Ubuntu and I guarantee that he or she will keep calling you asking how to play their DVD's, their MP3/WMA library, why their printer/scanner doesn't work (Lexmark X1290 in my case) etc, etc.
*sigh* Sorry about the rant.

I, too, came from android, but I wanted to try winmo that's why i went with Hd2 instead of nexus one. Although i miss android, I don't think the Hd2 needs Android. I love it so far. just hoped sling player worked on it. otherwise, phone is great.
to the OP:
i would suggest looking into evo or something else, if u want android man. Don't hope everything can be ported these days. Porting a mobile OS is a pain in the you know what. And these devs who doesn't get paid to port, won't port it unless they really want to sacrifice precious time of their lives.

excluding different versions of the same rom i've only seen 4 (Avas droidX line appears to be branching off from his V line from what he's said) So we have 2 from Ava, hero's, and the new one complied from source.
Man, well sorry for the misunderstanding. The way the post reads makes it seem as though any android phone would worker with the release. It should have been a clue though when I did not see any posts about it. I have had my evo for about a month now and have really been enjoying learning about, thanks to you all, the guts of it.

Well, there was some overzealousness with the claimed number of Froyo builds (there are what, 3-4? now). Either way, the kernel is what is needed to get the cameras going. HTC needs to get a bit more consistent with their timetables for releasing their source - some phones take 4 months and some have only taken a few days. It's a pain in the ass.

is that referring to just this board? Because there are lots of other ROMs out there from different boards. On PPCGeeks there are a few ROMs that are not listed here, and also on Android Central, there are some that aren't mentioned here. And soon there will be a Cynanogen ROM bringing 2.2 to the EVO that may not be listed here as well, so there are some other things out there if you look for them.
Me too.......DWL

Call it my natural penchant for pessimism, but I have a feeling that they are waiting until it's too late for everyone to return their Evo's to release the source.
Cuz if they did release the source within 30 days of launch and everyone found out that the 30fps really is a hardware limit (yes I know about the dirty hacks, the devs term not mine) then we would see a mass exodus of people returning their phones for the galaxy or droidx.
stupid people with stupid posts.
I really like those people who try to root their phone, but then can't get adb working on their pc. If you can't install and use adb, you shouldn't be rooting a phone.

As it goes, you might want to look up the Samsung S Pro. The standard S model has reports of serious GPS issues however, the S Pro has been delayed so maybe thats to fix these issues?

Two things:
1.) Why get a EVO? They're overhyped. The HD2 has better RAM (Evo: 512MB HD2: 548 MB) and runs WM, plus, you can boot Android off of it and that in my opinion makes it better because you can have two fully functional OS's. The only thing Evo has over the HD2 is the 4G that not everyone can get in their area, and an 8MP camera.
2.) Really, if you have a problem with the person's question shut the hell up and get off his thread. XDA is supposed to welcome people and treat each one with respect. You make people feel unwelcomed. Either help the person out without criticism, or get a life and stop hassling people for their questions. Dickhead.
kosmarnik is probably the worst poster on this entire website. Seriously, there are autistic children with better communication skills than him.

Hahaha! You hit the nail on the head with that one! He makes me feel ashamed to have the same phone as him.

I doubt that. Probably HTC is finished with WM.

Not probably but surely.

Sure sure, but WinMo is a dead platform while Evo is a native Android device. If you can't get Evo, well, go for HD2, but otherwise you're just setting your self up for unneeded work/compatibility issues...
Also for most people just flashing a new rom is too hard, so running a dual-boot setup is out of the question.
2.) Really, if you have a problem with the person's question shut the hell up and get off his thread.

Nah, this thread is of interest to me, as mentioned before.

I did not insult anyone, I merely suggested that he get's on with the times and learns to Google/Bing/Search forum, if in a tad jesting manner, but insult him I did not. Plus he called for any input on the topic
You on the other hand, rushed in with your whitekinghting and insults. Pfft. I fart in your general direction.
Searching before posting is just common sense.
Now, can we continue with the mourning of Rhodium and lamenting the lack of a decent successor?
And thanks to using the SEARCH BUTTON I found out that Desire Z/G2/Merge are the same phone: HTC Vision with different amounts of ROM! That clears up a lot, but leaves me sad.
Vision seems to use the Rhodium keyboard form, but only 4 rows??? Why do that? And no tilt? 800MHz?
Also, first reports say that the slide hinge is broken:

Ugh. Why HTC? Why?
Update: way to go darth_vato, more internet whiteknights to rescue the thread with their contributions! Now with free lame insults!
If you're looking for a hardware keyboard I'd recommend the HTC Desire Z because at 800mhz it's benchmarks are very near the 1ghz ones in HTC Desire/Google Nexus One. And it looks quite good with Sense UI.

Sorry, didn't realise you were also listing WP7. In that case, check out the Dell Lightining. In all honesty, as long WP7 holds up and does what I need (FULL Exchange) then this will probably be my next phone.
Only one serious concern, I understand that it might not work with SD cards at first release. I currently have a 32gb card full of tv progs, music and work data... this would be a deal killer for me Guess will find out for sure on Monday!
