Official 2.1 posted on Sprint - Hero CDMA Android Development

looks to be the same as the leak.

Well then, I guess I'm already upgraded.

thanks... i'm glad we got the leak i will read everyones response about it ut right now i'm still on 1.5 and very happy....

Didn't see a download link just looks like they r getting all their ducks in a row for the release.

this sucks.. if its the same as the leak, then they broke my bluetooth connection to my link to cell panasonic home phone. It works in 1.5 but is broken in 2.1, wtf?

Same here 2.1 bluetooth is some broke-a$$ sh!t. I rolled back to 1.5 simply so that my Kenwood car stereo would work. The benefits of 2.1 don't outweigh the broken bluetooth.
I hope it's fixed on the EVO, I can live with Fresh 1.1 until then

nandroid backup and flash this kernal over it
http://www.4shared.com/file/211795037/24ce727/GK-031-signed.html
also dont use a memory manager... the kernal has an excellent one built it and it will mess up otherwise

i'm also using fresh 1.1
on topic there should be a thread talking about everyones experince with it....

Not sure if this matters but on the support site is says Firmware - 2.1 Eclair. I think the firmware on the leak is 2.1 update1.

Ok, being a complete rookie at this rooting, are you saying this kernal will have a working bluetooth? but this is not 2.1 correct.

No indication of a Firmware Update when checking OTA.

There won't be. Sprint has already stated this will be OTW only.

I knoow it is for 1.5 and that is what used it for.

No one has been able to......yet.

Too bad this is the same as the leak. My bluetooth is broken, Sense crashes all the time. HTC dropped the ball on this one. Makes me very concerned about my EVO coming up.
I was really going to debate the Nexus One and EVO if they were both available. Mainly cause of OS updates. Now I have no choice.

You could always just keep the hero and wait for the next android phone to come out. I read that an nvidia tegra based android phone will come this year. Now that's something to be excited about.

It is still not available on sprint but HTC has it.

The big question would be: is that how Sprint is going to to the update, through HTC's site? Or should people wait for it to pop up on Sprint's site?

[Radio] Newest Sprint Radio

For people looking for the newest sprint radio, here it is, thanks to Flipz for originally posting this on geekfor.me. Let me know if you have any questions on how to get radios flashed. All compatible radios including the Verizon leak one can be found here.
This was posted in dev just an fyi http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681703
And a LOT of people use the verizon one, again people just so you know it all depends on your area. For some the newest sprint is best, others verizon, and even for a few, the original 1.56 radio.
Regardless this post should help reduce the repeated posts asking where to find it

I am def interested in this - I've never done it before but I have had luck with everything else you've recommended -
What do I need to do ?
Edit - I am not having any reception or download problems at all - everything seems exceptional - if this is the case is it even worth doing ?

If you have great reception then no this is not necessary. If you want to try it, just do a nandroid, flash the radio from recovery, and if your current radio gives you better reception, you can nandroid restore back.

Nandroid doesn't effect radios. A restore wouldn't get your old radio back you'd have to flash it..

No, not until it can be ported from legend, etc.

Sense is unfortunately not open source and is hardcoded to the Hero's processor. Zenulator is keeping his eye out for similar phones that might get a 2.2 update.

That was mine too until I got the bump to SP (Sprint Premium).
Now I get 12 month upgrades as opposed to 22 months. That's why I'm stuck with the Hero until March, at least. By then, though, we'll probably know about some awesome stuff coming out in May or June that I'll just have to wait for.
This is why I still want a Froyo port for us on the Hero even though I've pretty much given up hope to it happening. Even as it stands, though, I can't see the Hero falling too far behind in the meantime, especially with all the great stuff ZEN and the other devs are still working out for us. I mean, considering all the crappy Android phones on the market right now I'd say we're in pretty good shape for having such "old" technology. My brother is stuck with a Behold II until March 2012. I say I win

I really hope the G2X Vanilla ROM does not have the same lags as the optimized O2X ROM from MoDaCo.
Well, MoDaCo Rom is much much better than original. But just try to add a widget - Why the hell does it take so long to show the whole list...? On my Desire it appears immediately...

Its definitely a ROM problem,
In the past T-Mobile's ROM's have been decent, very lightweight and fast, and i would expect nothing less this time.
I still think the G2 ROM is one of the best Froyo ROM's out there

Am hoping the ROMs will be fully interchangeable between the devices.
Otherwise, I may stay with the stock ROM for awhile - of course, after rooting, flashing recovery, and freezing unwanted apps with titanium. And maybe an overclock kernel (if compatible).
Since it should be an open device, I don't think it will be long before XDA ports a 2.3 ROM for it.

Listen up pal, lemme help ya a bit.... (To be honest, re-reading your post, and again reading, I can't make heads or tails of what your asking. Will ICS be an available base for Inspire Devs to work with? Is that closer to what your suggesting, or asking?)
When the Inspire was released it was running Froyo, and when GB leaked the Devs with thier almighty wizardry developed a Rom(s) based on GB that could be flashed on rooted phones. Then HTC provided OTA updates for folks not rooted, which in turn gave most (all) Inspire users a Gingerbread based Sense Rom. Now that may not be all perfectly explained, but maybe it will help you to reassess how your question or statement is asked.....
Check this out. Opened a new Tab - Googled Ice Cream Shop Android and there it was.
Google wants ICS rolling out soon to compete with Apple - and it will be an available upgrade for existing smartphone users capable of running 2.3 (or 2.2 don't remember) They want all capable Android devices to be able to integrate with this new OS. SO my bet is this, once it drops those wacky wizards will be all over it - and a rooted user will see it before HTC pushes it out OTA
Edit: Your not grasping this the right way mate, so let me sum it up better. It's not a question (referring to thread title) of is ICS for HTC. ICS is an Android OS, which means its for Android powered devices. HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc will use ICS for thier newest ANDROID powered devices, following that will probably be the dev versions, then official OTAs will follow - HOPEfully. Damn. That was tough........ ....... ...... .......
Sorry for the confusing question.
In other words, you're saying that all android phones (Running Sense or other OS) will be updated ICS?

Sense isn't an OS. Its a UI. Sense is built on top of android OS 's like 2.2.1, 2.3.3. The HTC inspire will not be getting ICS. But as an EXAMPLE if it did, the OS would be ICS and sense would be built on top of it as a UI.

Lol, no apology necessary bud, but please don't be offended when I say you really should read a little something or other (Google "What is HTC Sense UI") to better inform yourself about your Phone. One last try bud - here we go. Ready?
Android powers your phone. Sense is a UI (user interface) which allows you to navigate through your phones OS or Operating System. Think of it like this bud - if Google is your car - Sense is the steering wheel. So if you go and buy another Inspire, The O.S. will be Gingerbread, How you will tell the OS what to do next, will be Sense. If that doesn't answer anything - then its someone else's turn...

I was just asking your opinion on this and my battery died. They said ICS would support devices less than a year old. So we know the Devs will get thier hands on it, but it might be in HTCs interest to upgrade as Google is wanting a multi-device compatibility and interaction like iPhone, IPad, etc.... What I hope doesn't happen is HTC holding out an Update solely to encourage upgrading.
Edit: Sounds Promising, Looks and Sounds Stellar, we shall wait and see indeed. SBasham - I re-read my post and wanted to apologize for sounding snarky. Totally didn't mean to be a downer bud!

Trell is a lot more informed than I am. I would probably take his advice, or answer as wielding more authority.

I'm not sure how well my translator works, but it might be accurate enough.
So, bjballar41, uhh in regard to Sense and to the Market/Play question, is your Girlfriends phone rooted?
If the phone is not rooted, she might want to check for software/firmware updates. Sounds like she is still running froyo, android 2.2.
Uh, ROM version aside, there's a d/l for the play store.apk. Google it. I did that way back, b/c I was still on market 2.5 (I think)

But is the play store an improvement? I recently went back to a nandroid of the ROM I found most stable. I have the old market back and am loving it compared to the more recent veal they have foisted upon the unsuspecting masses. Yes, it may be a good idea to have the apk, but I won't install it unless my market stops working. My 2 cents.
Edit: Veal? Really? I typed "crap". Lol, autocorrect.
Disclaimer: This is not advice. It is just something that fell from between my ears.

As it is stock ATT never updated the Inspire to anything past 2.3 with the older sense. It didn't even get the Sense 3.0 update HTC pushed out. This is the reason foe not having the lock screen. Unless you root it and flash a custom from it won't happen. The market maybe OS version dependet

I don't know about better. It looks like the 3.x series of Market. I will say that the 2.x Market I had had started having random times where it wouldn't connect.
