Apologies if there is a duplicate thread for this, but I am struggling to find one if there is.
I would like to change the layout of my start menu. Currently it displays quite large icons in a pattern of 2, then 1, then 2 again and so forth.
Is there a way to tweek this to have like 3 or 4 in a row (similar to what the Cookies editor does for your home screen). I have quite a large number of icons in the Start menu and its tedious to keep scrolling till the bottom to find something I've just installed.
If you do a search for 'start menu grid' there are different options. Or below...

So you want this popular look, here’s how to legally do it.
Download the following three programs:
Wisebar advance 2 (to load the black_panther theme, search for it)
cLauncher (to make the tables for the clickable icons)
funnysnake tkcreater (to change the font to white and make the background black)
Once all three programs are on your PDA/smartphone, go to your today screen and go to ITEMS. Uncheck everything except cLauncher.
Now open Wisebar 2 and go to settings > custom theme. Import the black panther theme.
Go into the settings of cLauncher and setup as follows for 640 x 480 VGA (if you have QVGA, simply play with the margin settings until it looks right)
Icon size 32 (very important)
(check) icon name enable size 45
(check) Icon name at bottom size 15
Icon Margins (for VGA) horizontal 5 , vertical 5
Window Margins left 10, top 15 , right 0, bottom 0
For skin I use this for a nice black background: http://www.pocketpcthemes.com/preview.asp?ID=58566
It will stretch and the logo will disappear.
Under options on cLaunch set for the following:
“main” uncheck all groups except main.
“system” cLaunch height 265
“tab” uncheck everything. This will remove the lines and tabs and leave only your main screen. To get back into the settings go towards the bottom of the screen and tap and hold in a blank area to bring up the options for cLauncher (since you won’t have a settings icons anymore).
Now, to setup the icons and shortcuts simply go into the options screen of cLauncher by going to the bottom of the screen in a blank area and tap and hold for a second.
Choose “add” and seek the program you wish to make the shortcut. Now go to “change icon” and choose an icon. You’ll need to have loaded 32x32 icons you wish to use in a folder to choose from and they need to be BITMAP icons so when you cut them up, resize and save them, make sure you use bitmap 32x32 size.
I’m sure you will have creatively came up with Icons somewhere…..
Now just launch Tkcreater to change the font color to white and if you are not using my favorite skin up there for a background you’ll be able to use the slider in Tkcreater to adjust “transparent” settings which will black the entire background out when the slider is all the way to the right. What you do here with the menu won’t be valid because the Black_panther theme will override the menu.
If you do this with the setting I have provided, this will be your end result.

I noticed that too. I'd say it's going to look a lot like this -- after I followed the original instructions on setting it up per decknologist's post several months ago.

answer already found. pls delete this post. thanks.
The Slide Panel feature is a nice addition, and seemes to offer more ways of customizing home screens.
Looking around the forums, I've learned most of the possibilities, but a few remain unknown for me.
- in a XML file (\windows\slidingpanel.home.xml) you decide general colors, iconbar, etc..
- in a XML file (\windows\chome_240x320.cpr for me) you can decide the position, size, font of the different parts of the blocks.
- in the registry (HKLM\software\microsoft\chome) you decide which parts are enabled, and the details of some of them (for example : settings).
I've not understood :
- how to change the icon on the top left of every panel ?
- where those icons are stored ?
- Is there any possibility of settings for the content : for example, I can see 2 days of apointments. can I change this to 3 or 4 ?
Does anybody know a good bible on that ?
Thanks
As for as icons, edit them in the reg. Under ICONPATHS (it may have numbers like 2450;2451), the first # I think is the selected panel icon and second # is unselected panel icon. You can change these icons numbers to a file location like this: \My Documents\
icons\sel.png;\My Documents\icons\unsel.png
You can make them any location or filename, main memory is better than storage card. Size of the icon is controlled by the cpr file(width="" and height="") and its displayed location(left="" and top=""). You can change Picture in reg same way but it would just be one icon in that value, not 2. You can also add extra icons, pics, or even panel backgrounds to different style panels if you want, but that is a little different.

Thanks for the tips, I'm learning day after day...
One mistake in my post : there is a second set of keys for that in the registry : HKLM/security/chome/defaultsettings. The first set of keys seems to be overwritten during every boot with the content of this second set of keys. To save a modification, you need to modify the 2 sets at the same time.
You don't get all those time consuming possibilities with a plain Nokia phone... !
Does anyone know of a way to remove the title in the tabs of TF3D? The one I would really like to get rid of is the "Programs" title bar since it wastes so much space on the top of the screen.
Or if it is possible to just downsize the font to increase space?
Thanks!

Or if anyone knows how to fix the scrolling start location on the programs tabs of TF3D...I can manually scroll up a tad to show 3 full rows of programs icons with their text label below. Otherwise by default I see 2 3/4 rows of programs buttons.
Hi to all...
I did search and search but nothing found. On my today screen - home tab - I have 20 shortcuts. Below the icons of the shortcut appears a text label.
With 20 shortcuts the text is very small, barely readable and in my opinion very distracting. Therefore I prefer shortcuts without the text label.
Where should I search? Manila files, registry? Can anyone point me in the right direction or hand over a solution?
Would appreciate your help! I'm using the 1.61 ROM and have the Max Manila mod installed.
Found some of a solution myself. I'm not yet satisfied with it though.
The text can be removed by editing the registry:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home\nn
Where nn stands for shortcut number, eg. 1, 2, 3, ..... 20
Look for the entry DispName. This contains the shortcut text.
Replace the text by a space.
Now the text box is gone, but the little black textfield remains.
When replacing the DispName by an empty string the text box also disappears, but now the whole shortcut icon becomes grey. So that is not a nice looking option.
Still looking for a better solution.
Nobody here to offer some help??
Just can't imagine I'm the only one who wants to get rid of the text below the shortcuts on the home tab. Without this text the home tab looks so much cleaner / nicer...
PS: Happy NEW YEAR to all !!
(first of all: I am sorry for any incorrect words/language, I'm still learning english, I read the rules and tried putting this thread into the correct topic, I also considered putting it into > Android Development and Hacking > Android Themes > as a [Q]uestion, but rather put here)
So I was about to make some customization to my htc, currently I'm just testing the possibilites in nova launcher + widgetlocker because I'm not in the situation where I can have my phone installed a new rom. Since I was testing widgetlocker I noticed there is almost no choices regarding the lockscreen out animation to the homescreen. Or at least what I wan't is really different than the few avalible.
My idea is to set up the lockscreen with all the different widgets (uccw/zooper) showing important stuff + a slider. Then icons would be on homescreen. I would use the same high res picture for the lockscreen as for the homescreen. Only just, for the homescreen I would use a blured one, so icons stand out more, a little cleaner.
[Q]: Is there any way possibly changing the widgetlockers animation changing from lockscreen to homescreen, with a custom one?
[Q]: If so, how can one make such an animation, import it into widget locker and then use it too?
[Q]: Can I achieve such a slider that would show now lines of sliding/way of unlocking, just slide my finger through the screen from one side to the other and the whole lockerscreen would just go away, and the homescreen would slide in (like scrolling on pages of the homescreen)?
I want to make the same effect as the nova launcher prime has (which I do not own yet, so I don't know tha proper name of the scrolling effect), called Wipe (maybe), it has a solid line between the pages of the homescreen, so when you slide the icons of the previous page would go away in a line changing up to the next page's icons, lake the previous page was hidden by the next page sliding above it. I would like this effect because it would make a transition effect of the lockscreen clear high res wallpaper blurring, geting to the point where you can't see what's on the picture. (of course I don't want a solid blurring effect, the simple homescreen sliding over the lockerscreen would be the greatest, so apps, and the original wallpaper would go away in a clear line).
I may have some other question regarding this animation depending on answers
For now, I thank you all for any answers or help in the future. I see it's a rather special question regarding that won't be too many people who want to make custom animation for the lockscreen (or at least the lack of google hits on the topic would point that way )
