Closed ports on HTC Legend? (or all Androids?) - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi.
I have just bought a new HTC Legend - and I am very satisfied with the device - it just works.
But I am confused about the phones tethering. I have succesfully setup the tethering for my MacBook (Snow Leopard 10.6.3) with both the PDANet apps and the AziLink solution. With both the methods, I succesfully connect to the web - and I am able to browse http-sites on my MacBook. But no matter how I connect, I can only connect to the http-sites, and not to my FirstClass server at work, my VPN connection or my IMAP and POP3-servers.
I assume this is because these ports are different from the http-port and are not forwarded from the phone to the MacBook properly. But I am very disappointed about this - as my Nokia 6300 (!) did the job perfectly (although it had a very slow EDGE-connection).
Can anybody tell me how to resolve this problem?
Will rooting the phone and using Wifi Tether solve the problem?
Best regards,
Niels Skovmand, Denmark.

Problem solved - without knowing why..!
After trying setting the phone up from the start again the problem was solved. Now I am using AziLink and Tunnelblick with a openvpn-profile containg the configuration from the Help-menu in AziLink.
All the ports are forwarded properly now - GREAT!

Apple Mac and HD2

I can't seem to able to connect the HD2 to my MacBook Pro, other than as a external HD drive. Which is fine for exchanging files, an dI don't need Activesync or the Vista version. But I do want to use it as a modem. Either via Bluetooth, a cable or as Wif Router. And though I am usually quite handy with these kind of things, I can't get any of them to work. So hopefully someone has made it to work, and can let me know the tricks?
Same problem here, but I'm able to connect to my SD card. What I do is to put all the update file in to SD card and run it.
Hello,
You should find in the programs on your HD2 one called Wifi Router.
Running it, you will be able to choose a name for your network and choose the key (WEP only)
Than from your Mac by clicking on the Airport icon, you should see your newly created network under "Devices". Just connect to it with the WEP key you determined and there you go !
WifI router is a great application. Working fine on a MS machine (XP, Vista). But it;s not stable with my Macbook/Apple. It's hard to get an connection (even find it), and only connects for a short time. I have not been able to get one biy in to webbrowser or mail. It just disconnects and says no internet connection...
Sorry to hear that =(
Using it on 2 Macbooks without any issues (stable and fast connection)
Works fine for me sorry! Submit it to HTC see what they say...
Same problem here between my new HD2 and macbook pro... Unable to connect to internet using Bluetooth/USB connection. WiFi router connect but internet connection don't work. Any solution?
PS : sharing files via USB or bluetooth is possible.
Looks like it is something of the new generation Macbook. Before I bought the apple, i was able to test it in an apple shop. It worked (Wifi Router)! As I said: no USB connection, no BT connection and not via WiFi Router. However it does work as an external Harddisk. It should be the settings in the Macbook to make Wi-Fi Router work! It connects (now and again, but not stable) But no internet according to Safari (for you guys/girls whom still own a dinosaur: that's the browser..). Settings of Macbook Pro???
I'm currently trying to find a way.
There is a software called "USBModem" from Mobile Stream that allow Windows Mobile USB and bluetooth connexion for Mac users.
I'm working actually with support team (very reactive!) for HD2 to be compatible with this software.
Hope they will be abble to make something great
Unfortunately, Mobile Stream Team can't make anything for HD2<=>Mac USB connexion
If somebody has a solution...
I started the thread, may be I can end it. Strangely enough, outside of my home Wifi area, I can get the connection between HD2's Wifi router and my Macbook. At home, somehow my HD2 tries to contact at the same the home network, and therefore does not get a stable connection with my Apple. So it's great: outside it works, inside I have a network and no need for tethering...

[Q] Can WM6.5 share modem with a Ginger tablet ?

Here's the problem of a newb user of an Android tablet.
I favent' found any similar thread here @ the Forum.
I've just bought a chinese tablet (EM73...maybe Haipad or Irobot) with Ginger 2.3.3 installed by the vendor.
Everything goes right but not the sharing connection with the modem of my HTC TP2 (WM 6.5).
I can do it (through BT or WIFI connection) just if I use my netbook (Win XP home) running WMWifiRouter or CM Internet sharing. The router is immediatly recognized by the pc and I can use internet or SN (like FB) or Skype....and so on with an EDGE connection.
I've tried to do the same by connecting the modem-router to my new tablet, running WMWIFIRouter on TP2 but without seeing the net in the list of wifi connections.
No problem with the router and the ADSL connection that I use at home but no connections appears in the list of the tablet if I try to share the EDGE connection of my smartphone.
I've tried to connect by using an USB cable (using some apps found on the market) but nothing happens.
Someone says it depends of the type of connection (ad hoc = WM; infrastructure = Android)... but I can't find any solution to create that type of connection (is it possible ???=).
Can someone help me please ?
Though I don't have a solution, to help I can promise you it has to do with using ad-hoc. My Sirius and DSLite would not hook up to my WinMo phone because of it being Ad-hoc.

Android + VPN + LAN issue

Hi,
I'm not sure this forum is the best place for this issue but I'm hoping for some suggestions on what might be wrong.
Since three days back it's no longer possible for me to connect to my usual VPN service on neither my tablet or phone. It's only at home on my own LAN (haven't tried any other LANs), it works just fine via 3G.
There's no problem connecting with my desktop PC or laptop.
It's really annoying when trying to be super secret!!!
Cheers.
And now it works again!
ZzZzZz.....

Sharing internet connection with android if Win10 Laptop is unable to create hotspot

Hello,
This may sound weird but I'm sure I'm not the only one facing this problem. I don't want to invest on a wifi router just yet. It was pretty easy to share my laptop's internet connection with my phone when I was on Windows 7. But ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, some of my device drivers are messed up. I've tried installing multiple drivers (one at a time of course) to get my laptop to create a WiFi hotspot. Haven't succeeded yet.
But what I can do is connect my laptop to other WiFi networks.
I wonder if there is a way in which I can share my broadband connection from my laptop to my phone. Can the Android community help?
