I would like to see the capability to build notification profiles, so that I do not have to manually turn off my email notifications at night. In other words, for "weekdays" I would have all notifications occur, for "nites", phone only, etc.
I have not been able to find an app or widget to do this yet. I have searched this and other forums as well as the markets.
The only app I know of is Locale (market). There are also add-ons that will enable what you are looking for. I don't use, personally, but thought it might help in pointing you in the right direction.
note:Locale is NOT free...
Free alternatives to Locale (which I prefer):
Timeriffic (free in the market)
Tasker (beta, not yet in the market, but can be found here)
There's an app in the market called sound manager, that allows you to schedule the volumes for everything... I have it set to mute notifications during my normal sleeping times, as well as turning down call volume (but not muted).

Why am i NOT getting a notification in my bar when someone sends for something or replies on my facebook?
Because the Android app doesn't push. Download Bloo and it will push (most) notifications to yo.
that is rediculous! there is even a setting in the android app for notifications. The facebook app on this is a joke compared to iphones thats fa sho
The Facebook app is not that polish. On android 2.1 there is no push notification as noted. I believe 2.2 has this option. Once Facebook updates the app for 2.2 it should include that feature.

the facebook app is pretty lame... the pictures load way too slow
I agree, even verizon or motorola said something on their twitter page about it was the best just to use the browser..lol..
That n the trapster app are my main apps that I use and both work better at the iphone...makes me just want to buy an iphone 2g

its just weird cuz under the facebook settings you can turn notifications on. Why would there be a setting if it didnt work? Anyone who has used the iphone facebook knows this one is lightyears behind........and i didnt even mention the fact that there is NO chat option on this..
I know this doesn't help...
I was pretty sure I had facebook notifications turned off and today I got a notification. wierd.
i downloaded bloo, but as others have said on the app comments, it doesnt work.
My biggest beef with that"app" is the lack of phonebook tab. But there's. About a dozen things I could rant on it... no push updates, no syncing, etc.

I have been looking deeply into finding some kind of fix or app to allow all reminders/appointments in the calendar to constantly remind until dismissal, just like WM.
Is there anything out there?
"Missed Call" has that feature, however I've never used it because it says it's experimental. You have to disable to original calendar notification, and I believe clear the reminder from the notification bar at the top.
It is a great program though, might be worth you checking out. I use it for repeat reminders of calls, sms etc.
I believe it can be accomplished with Tasker. I"m attempting to get a profile set up for that no. My first attempt is not working like I expect. But I think it is possible.
Try calendar snooze app in the market. The free version I am currently trying is limited, but still very useful.

I have also gotten used to the pesky calendar reminders as a 9 year WM user that recently switched to Android. As a matter of fact I've already missed a few important calls as a result. OP, please let us know if you find anything.

Thanks! I installed a bit ago, and this is quite nice. Can even customize to be different for various calendars.
Why isnt there no push notifications for facebook? Anybody having this problem?
Ive KPH, and ive read that the Facebook for Android app have push notifications. I cant configure that on mi i9003.
Thanks
Make sure under settings "accounts & sync" facebook sync is turned on. And i recommend using friendcaster for android instead. the original facebook app is a buggy POS
There are also a couple of apps that only deal with notifications: I personally use MB Notifications for Facebook because it has more features, and don't need all the other stuff FriendCaster has
I used Friendcaster but it was drinking my battery, and it doesnt have push notifications. Im testing MB Notifications right now, with the Facebook for Android app.
I loved Friendcaster, but it has issues with messages (they didnt show), and for some actions it open the browser instead.
The problem I have with MB Notifications is that I didnt check the "event notifications" and it shows them anyway.
Push notifications are the ones that the server is who call the client right? so the phone doesnt need to be checking for notifications with some periods of time? So push notifications saves battery?
Thanks
Facebook for Android supports push notifications, but there's no way to enable them from its settings. The only way to enable them is to use a BlackBerry (I know, it's stupid). When you enable push notifications from a BlackBerry, then they will be enabled on Android too.
Fortunately if you don't have a BlackBerry you can download a simulator (Windows only, you can download it from blackberry.com/developers/downloads/simulators [sorry, I can't post link]) and login in to Facebook from the simulator using Facebook app which is already installed.
Then go in Facebook app settings (on your Android phone, I think it's better to logout and then re-login before doing this) and choose as update interval "never".
From now on you'll receive instant notifications on your Android phone.
since I've upgraded to latest version of tapatalk and use xda mainly on it, when I subscribe to a topic, I get both email and tapatalk app itself notification. I use to just get the apps notification, where do I go to stop this? thank you.

Did you find a solution to this problem. It seems i am also getting notifications from XDA even though i have unchecked the box in my XDA options!
There is a portion in the user control panel at the end which shows the posts you have subscribed for email notification, if unchecking email preferences don't work try removing those.
Hi all,
OK - I have the Sony Gmail app installed on my SW2 and I'm using a stock (rooted) LG2.
On the phone, I don't need (or want) Gmail running in the background so have all notifications & sync disabled - basically, I just want Gmail to work a) when I check it manually or b) occasionally when I'm waiting for a mail to come through and need notifications on my watch and will enable them.
Weird bit.
I disable everything as mentioned, and the phone happily shows me no notifications, BUT the SW2 does!
I check the phone when one comes through on the watch and sure enough there's none there and I have to swipe down to poll the account.
My question: which app is polling the account - is it the Gmail app or the SW2 extension - and more importantly, how can I stop either/both of them doing it and save battery life/my sanity?
Is the phone secretly checking in the background for mail but not showing me any notifications?
Thanks for any tips.
If you don't want to poll Gmail, then, remove the extension from the watch.

Yes, but if you read my post you'll see that I occasionally do need to poll Gmail.
Your suggestion is a bit like "if you don't like being stuck in traffic, sell your car".
I use an app called Watchify, in it you can enable/disable notifications pretty much on the fly. It's now a paid app, but free trial for 14 days. I liked it enough to buy it. You can turn off Gmail notifications when not needed, then back on when needed. But you will have to do it from SmartConnect on the phone. I think maybe you might be looking for a filter for Gmail.

Yeah, I use Notfify Smartwatch ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.shuisky.notify ).
I can use this actually instead of the Gmail app.
I'm still confused as to what's polling the Gmail account though. The phone certainly doesn't seem to be, but these extensions don't work independently.
Do you see what I mean? It's like the phone is polling the account, just not showing any notification to prove it is.
It's very odd.
I guess the first question I should have asked is, what apps/ext on you running on your SW2?

Call Handling

Gmail
Notify Smartwatch
That's it.
The extension works independent - directly accesses your account not using Gmail App. So it's correct that the extension ignores what your phone notifications tell or hide

Wow. Is that so..
So, question answered then - thanks very much.
it's a bit hit and miss. e.g. this email notification came through, but the notification for the other thread replies didn't.
Not much use anyway!
I think it might be following the rules of categorising in Gmail website where those mails might be put together in one thread. But idk... I'm using stock Xperia Email and Extension.
On my S4 I used AquaMail with AquaMail Extension. Worked well.

Yeah, you could be right.
All seems to be working well now with the Gmail SW2 app removed anyway.

you sold the car then?
No, just changed the type of fuel it uses..
To the makers of this Gmail smart extension.....I noticed today that my data was being used so I decided to investigate, 1.47 GB was used for Gmail smart extension. What the F---? This is a bad app and I demand a solution to this as you just cost me most of my data plan!
