Handwriting Recognition App - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

I was surprised to find no handwriting recognition in WM 6.5 on my HD2 as I have used this on my previous smartphone for years to write email and SMS messages, so I did a little research and came up with Calligrapher 8.6 which works very well for me. Handy app and works well with just a finger to write with. Cheers.

Go to device\window\transcriber and I think that is what you were looking for. It works pretty decent but it takes up a lot of space on the scteen and I have no clue how to make it one of the options when you go to select a different keyboard.

Polaris good for sending SMS's?

Hey ya
well ive been searching high and low to try and find out if the SMS program is decent enough on the Polaris and others. i had a play with a HTC touch, only to find the default SMS program is not only combined with email, but is also. . . crap, with no option to use an on screen keypad with T9 predictive. Does such a thing exsit. Obviously the touch dual would allow this with its keypad and its T9 predictive text entry, but it doesnt have Wifi or GPS and probably wont anytime soon, so im looking elsewhere (Polaris/Cruise/Orbit2)
cheers
Jamie
the phonepad input tool you can find here using search if your device dont come with it
does t9 and everything
it works on all wm devices from htc
"SMS program is not only combined with email,"
same thing for all htc/wm devices it dont slow it down
and emails and sms's are not placed in the same dirs
Thanks for the quick reply
Is this the one you mean ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312235
or is there an official HTC one that comes with the Polaris?
Jamie
same program diff skin i think
if it comes with polaris may depend on if one get it from a phone company they
at times customize their stuff
but a cab is a cab it will install and work

Looking for 2 Applications

I just got a Touch Cruise this weekend and love it so far.
But I find that I would really like to get 2 things for it:
1. a better keyboard. I know there is a learning curve, but I am not sold on any of the keyboards that came with the device. I heard there is a freeware keyboard that is much better. Anyone know of it?
2. is there an application like google maps or google mail that you all use to track stocks and see how your portfolios are doing? Something like this would make the device even more useful.
thanks,
Try out this keyboard: It's a little bit bigger than the standard one. I use it and it works great.
pocketcm keyboard
Google Maps can be found here: Google Maps Mobile v2.0.1.17
for the second one you can search for google2go... it's a hotlink collection for the IE. It launches as a normall app, and does include the mobile google finance
PocketCM keyboard is great. a lot of good skins for it too.
For a maps program Windows Live Search Mobile is by far the best. Seriously one of the best apps from Microsoft and it's for free. It includes movie times, gas prices, maps with gps, speech recognition for addresses and business locations. I think it's only available in the US & UK though, so really depends on where you're at.
As for stocks I use Pocket StockCenter. You can setup your portfolio, number of shares for each symbol, amount paid, etc.
or you could try Vitos' Zoomboard which is quite good
While I agree PCM is a great keyboard, I have been using TouchPAL and have been happier.

I just installed PocketCM keyboard but my Polaris continues to use the Old Keyboard. When I select PocketPC keyboard and then options, it says PocketPC keyboard must be the SIP inorder to Configure it.
What is SIP and how do I get the PocketCM keyboard to work?
I've seen that as a bug sometimes, when you hit the small arrow by the keyboard icon and select PocketCM and it gives you that standard keyboard with the really small keys. Try resetting and selecting the pocket CM keyboard. Then you should be able to go into options and modify it.
Also search for SIP changer, there are tons of threads and the file is floating around. Allows you to set the default SIP on startup.
By the way SIP is "soft input panel" or something like that, it's basically the app that pops up that allows you to input characters whether it be the default HTC ones, default Windows ones, or something like PocketCM.

Other operating system on T32+

Hi all,
I did not know where to place my question so here goes:
I have a iPhone clone thing T32+ interal GPS with Windows Mobile 6 on it.
Now, I don't like WM6. Is it possible to install some other OS? What about ANDROID?? Is that already available? I really don't like the keyboards available in WM6. What a job typing a SMS!!
Also, I can't change the text language to Dutch and therefore Dutch Word Suggestion while typing.
Let me know what you experts think.
Thank you
Windows mobile may be sort of gimpy out of the box but there is a lot you can do with it.
For instance, here is a nice pretty skinnable keyboard (skins on the same site) http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard.php . More skins http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330525 . Our two phones have the same screen. On my phone pocketCM set on big takes up about half of the screen. Easy typing.
Another nice one is happytapping.
If you want a different launcher / ui there are tons of them available too. Ifonz if you want to look like an iPhone. There are tons of others also. Just look for home screen replacement or launchers. My phone doesn't even resemble wm6 anymore. The fun of windows mobile is customizing it into what you want, and being able to change what it is like on a whim. Of course I guess if you want something functional out of the box there are definetly better choices. On that note, yes you are pretty much stuck with windows on that phone.

SMS applications for Windows Mobile?

Are there any applications to replace the standard Windows Mobile SMS application? I find using the WM SMS app with a virtual keyboard to be cumbersome and the UI is less-than elegant.
I'm certainly not asking for iChat, as I'm not exactly fond of how it looks either, but I do want something that will at least let me easily proof-read my texts that are longer than 2 lines without having to stab the up and down arrow with just the right sensitivity as to not make me lose my place.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to make the SMS experience better for WM 6.1?
Thanks,
Nick
You're not the first to ask.
Whilst unfortunately I cannot aid - what I can tell you is that I know several have asked/tried and i've not found a decent solution.
Manila has a different interface for sms these days but its not without its problems, particularly on a landscape device (at least with the rom i have on my x1)
Non-Threaded sms allows for better proof reading but of course its not threaded.
I'm interested in something aswell, unfortunately any of my programming knowledge is useless for such an application
Have you try "Vito SMS"??

Looks like an interesting option, thanks for recommending it. Do you have any screenshots of how it handles long messages (multipart SMSs over 160 characters)? I can't install it on my phone right now nor can I find any screenshots showing that functionality on various search engines.
I'm fine with the Windows Mobile 6.1 implementation of threaded SMS; my main problem lies in the presentation of reading back long messages in a tiny, tiny text area that is impossible to scroll just using touch.
Thanks,
Nick
PCM??
Have you looked into Pocket CM yet?

[Q] Speech to Text

Has anyone found a good speech to text/text to speech application that is compatible with the HD2? Some friends have had Vlingo but it is not compatible with the HD2. Thanks
I would like to use such a tool as well - could be a great little helper while driving in a car and whanting to take notes... I'm interested as well!
Yah it will be so useful.. and can save lives !!

I guess you have WM running? On Android you can use its buildin speech recognition.
For Windows Mobile you should have Voice2Go. I 've never used it, but googled on 'Speech recognition for Windows Mobile' and found this. Looks pretty good.
