After much debate and testing, SlideIT is better! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

I've advocated for Swype here many, many as a part of the TMOUS ROM for a long time, but the newest version of SlideIT simply works better. There's no question about it.
At $7.99, it's a bargain for all that it offers. It's faster, stable, and the buttons work 100% of the time. I've become fully convinced after testing it against the latest Swype, and I'd say its even better than the previouis Swype as well for various reasons, not the least of which is that it fits properly in the window of the 6.5.x ROM! No impossible "position fix" needed!
I'd highly recommend anyone who has not done so to check out the demo.

not for me guys, swype FTW !!!

I will try but,was really annoying to use it....repport soon!!

finally! some common sense
btw the first was SlideIt and it's intelligent algorithms. Swype is just a copy-cat.

SlideiT is by far the best, so +1 from here 2

lol, it seems im the only one who likes swype better. oh well...*goes back to texting at the speed of light on a fancy custom coloured swype keypad*....

yes slide-it is better,
still needs a lot of work though, especially getting it to play with opera10 better..
When deleting a word mis-recognized it moves the cursor back to the start of the word and deletes the words in front.
Other than that I love it!

Until the makers of SlideIT sort out word correction in HTC Messaging, I don't agree.
Swype is the better keyboard.

Have you not noticed the same with swype? I have.

SlideIt is the only swype software with different languages i use the dutch and it is very good

SlideIT is better than Swype, but is it better than TouchPal ?
I notice SlideIT bugs a little in French and TouchPal got so much more features.
IMHO, TouchPal is the best keyboard. But SlideIT is merely the speedest way to type messages.

I think they are that close it will always be a personal preference thing.
I revert back and forth constantly. SlideIT is faster in terms of speed, you can add custom abbreviations so for commonly used passwords and emails etc it can be great to just enter a few characters, takes up alot less memory but not much to look at (for many who cares, its all about typing speed).
However on occasions when typing the same paragraph, SlideIT can be overly sensitive and constantly gives an error if trying to type a certain work, i revert to Swype and it enters it no prob so im not convinced either is a clear winner.

Agreed, Touchpal is very reliable, esp when using Opera etc for passwords, emails etc. It never fails whereas the swyping keyboards can. I dont use it alot but when i need to be accurate to enter something, you cant go past Touchpal, used it for years and its great.
SlideIT and Swype is just more fun, easier etc.

Sorry guy's. tried both, its Swype for me!

I just simply love slideIT, still getting used to it, but so far so good
But something I've noticed, is when I've typed a word in Dialect/Accent after a time the word will disaper.
Anyone else with same problem? Even if i go to options and push the "save now" button it's still gone after a day or two

Are you using the full version (paid version) or the demo?
The demo does not allow permanent saves, If I recall. The added words are only there temporarily.

I'm using the full version, but used the demo version first.
Maybe if I'd delete it from the mobile, and re-install it?
Could be the demo could affect the full version?

Swype vs Slideit vs Shapewriter

There might be more gesture type keyboards out there for the N1 please feel free to fire them in the thead. I had swype on my G1 and loved it and when I moved to N1 I could never get it to work. So I found Slideit and Shapewriter. IMO Shapewriter when I tried it out just plain sucked. Slideit on the other hand I have come to love as much or more than swype. At first it seem terrible but as I have gotten used to it, again IMO it is of the same quality as swype it self. What do you guys think?
I never knew other gesture keyboards could actually even compare to the awesomeness of Swype. I have tried ShapeWriter, SlideIt is next I guess.
Swype is the best mobile keyboard ever, almost for me... It`s simple and
very very fast.
slideit is fast as well....
I havent tried Slideit. Before I found Swype I made the mistake of buying Shapewriter. I say mistake because not long after I bought it, they redid the whole layout and removed the shift key. Trying to enter a password without a shift key is such a pain I just gave up using it completely. Now that I have Swype, I'm happy.
Is Swype out yet?? .. I have only the beta, and it reports errors all the time. But it looks nice and look forward to the full release.
I use SlideIT, as it is the only one with danish support, and I quite like also. Also they seem to be interested in the feedback I sent back.
My main gripe with SlideIT is that there are no special characters on the front keyboard. It annoys me that I have to switch screens to write things like '-' or '?' ...
But they seemed willing to allow for options to choose the layout. So once that is done, i will probably buy that app.
Shapewriter looks odd in landscape mode. Lots of wasted space. Also have no danish support (yet).
I will try out Swype and Shapewriter more once they have support for danish language. Until then there can only be SlideIT

TouchPAl 4.2 for android is available!

I search to make sure I didn't post something already well known by everyone!
here is the link to download a free version of TouchPal, Chinese/ENglish for the time being...
http://www.cootek.com/_d/TouchPal.apk
I am testing it on Desire 2.1 it is working sofar.

SebSAB
Works on my Milestone, Chinese and English input but help is in Chinese
I loved TouchPal on PPC hopefully it's just as good on ANDROID.
support! im using it now.
I've never heard of it, but it looks somewhat identical to SwiftKey (which is still in beta though)..
Is it better than SwiftKey?
It's very similar to swift key... It's not like how it was on WM so I uninstalled.
Last I tried this, it was kludgy.. I loved TouchPal in WM, so hopefully it gets to that level.
Still using HTC IME mod myself.
It's definitely not as good as it was on WinMo, but it's still probably the best keyboard for Android now. I LOVE LOVE LOVE being able to SWIPE keys to select modifiers, rather than HOLD them for a second (which seems like an eternity)
Three main problems keep this one from being perfect:
1) It doesn't seem as snappy as it did on WinMo (using HTC desire now, was using Omnia II before)
2) It's missing the "insert space after completed word" function
3) It is completely missing the '#' key, which makes tweeting difficult sometimes
Oh, and it would be nice if it was skinnable too
Every key imaginable is under the number key keyboard, at least in the T+ keyboard I've always used TouchPal under. You just scroll up on the list. It's not exactly obvious, I actually found it on accident.
That said, TouchPal is a lot better than it was when I last tried it, but it's very laggy and is missing the voice search button, which as far as I know a keyboard just calls, not like they actually write code to do the voice transcription within the keyboard itself.. I know you can long-press the search button for general search, but I like to use the voice recognition in things like Waze to type for me while I drive.
It's 3.4M too. Sheesh. What would help is if it were possible to dump the keyboards I don't use, but I doubt that'll be possible.
I think it still has a ways to go, but it's better than it was. I always loved TouchPal in WM, but I think I'll still have to stick to IME for now. SwiftKey I still just don't like, it's like a pair of shoes that just don't feel right. Can't really say way, just don't like it.
Ah, I found the # key, cool! That's a pretty inconvenient place for it though.
On my device, TouchPal takes about 17M of memory, while SwiftKey takes 50M+. SwiftKey is much smoother though.
I've been using it today, it's working pretty good overall. One annoying thing is it switches to Full QWERTY after going to the number pad input, have to swipe it back to T+
It's prediction is rather good, probably not that much better than HTC IME but the buttons are much larger and easier to type.
I miss the amount of symbols directly available on the keys, however. It is slower to type things like _, which I use a lot

Keyboard options

I am looking for some options for the on screen keyboard on my HTC HD2. Does anyone have any suggestions for it ?
You can try Finger Keyboard 2.1 . To me it is the best among the others
Why? do you not like the plain look of windows mobile keyboard. I have swype as a second keyboard option.
Search DINIK, he has skinned the normal keyboard. all my friends envy the 3D eye candy keyboard... i definitely display that more than swype now give it a try!
Finger Keyboard 2.1 has skins for it an suports alot of languges
i think you will find it the most sutable kebord for your needs

Depends what youre after. If you like the standard k/board but want a better look, Dinik has a great skin and there are several skins floating around for this.
If you dont like the functionality of it, there are many alternative keyboards. For me i have tried Touchpal (great touch style, layout, fast etc), Swype (many threads and vids on this, no typing, more like sliding), SlideIT (similiar to Swype) etc.
I used to use swype, found out it was the reason my phone was crashing, now i'm using slidet which is similar,no freezing or crashing..

Curious, what version of Swype were you using. Just asking as i use both Swype and SlideIT, i can never make up mind so constantly changing between the 2. SlideIT flows better, faster, abbreviations etc but sometimes i type a certain words and SlideIT just doesnt get it, produces the ?? however type same words with Swype, no problem. SlideIT's ugly too so sometimes like the look of Swpe so ive used both for ages, no probs.
Only problem i had when i had both and Touchpal installed same time. On its own, it worked great but when i had all 3 installed, often the keyboard wouldnt respond so i had to soft reset. Uninstalled Touchpal, problem went away.
try latest Resco Keyboard

Type Faster With SwiftKey’s Predictive Android Keyboar

Swype Beta was the very first app that I made a video demo of. Ah, it brings back memories. It was also the demo that launched with The Droid Demos in June of 2010. However, there was another Android keyboard app that was released shortly thereafter. It was called SwiftKey. Unlike, Swype, SwiftKey doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel…I mean keyboard. Rather, it brings us an even better traditional keyboard. With a sleek look that slightly resembles the HTC Sense keyboard, SwiftKey prides itself in helping you type faster without changing any habits. How? SwiftKey not only has an amazing spell correction engine, but it actually predicts what you’re going to type. That’s right, a keyboard that predicts the future. Okay, so maybe not quite, but it gets close. By analyzing your typing habits and messages, SwiftKey learns how you type and uses this data to suggest what word to type next, allowing you to quickly tap to select or hit space to select its prediction. No hassle guaranteed.
I've got a video demo, as always of SwiftKey. Check it out. Download link provided.
SwiftKey Video Demo with Download Link
I have personally found the stock Htc sense keyboard to be better than Swiftkey because the error correction is way better. I type fast enough that it would slow me down considerably to pause to read and select the word it predicts for me. When I try to type fast as would with the Sense keyboard, I get many spelling errors because of mistypes. With the sense keyboard, most words are corrected properly. Try it. Try typing without worrying if you pursed exactly the correct key. I find portrait mode works fastest as you don't have to move your fingers much. I use two thumbs.
Interesting.I like swype a lot but swiftkey sounds like it's worth a try thanks.
I've been on for the hunt for a good keyboard solution for about 3 years.swype is as close as I've come and as you can see I'm still ferrying..getting.. used to it. :/
I'm actually using SwiftKey right now. I tried Swype for a couple of weeks but found that the words that often come up aren't the words that I meant to swype and I end up going back and adjusting the words. So far I've been very satisfied with SwiftKey but I'll try out the suggestion someone mentioned above about using the stock keyboard. One thing that I would like to see though is multitouch support added to SwiftKey.
In my personal opinion, swiftkey sucks...I am like the first response, it slows me down horribly having to select words. Prediction is no good either. The best keyboard I have found for pure speed has been Smart Keyboard Pro in the market. It's multitouch, the keys are spaced nicely and prediction is accurate and fast along with ability to customize as needed.

The fastest keyboard on Android has to be TouchPal, the king of Windows Mobile keyboards.
If you have ever used WinMo, you should know how TouchPal murders any other WinMo keyboard out there. TouchPal Android version is no different.

+1 For Smart Keyboard Pro, by far the best I have used. Personally I don't use any prediction, I just seem to make less mistakes with SKP and the mistakes I do make it will autocorrect most of them. I think it is the virtual key resizing that makes it work so well.

[Q] Swype vs SlideIT

Now after almost a year that I have SlideIT and Swype on my Galaxy,
I decided to give up Swype since I almost never use it anymore.
I found that SlideIT has so many more feature comparing to swype, and all the time it's being update.
Its dictionary is better, it’s word prediction is better and it’s way of choosing alternate words is better. Instead of forcing you to choose from a popup menu, it makes its best guess then gives you an unobtrusive menu of alternate words to choose from in case it got it wrong.
I just want to hear what do you think ?
please answer only if you tried them both for a while
SlideIT site
Swype site
also forgot to mention ShapeWriter which is the third keyboard using this sliding input method, and two months ago was removed from the Market.
from my experience, I found it to be very inaccurate and not at the same level as SlideIT and Swype.
ShapeWriter site
SlideIT of course...
Because it has Multilingual support
swype (at least the version i have *cough*) does multilanguage too

Swype is looking better, and working better. When they launch with fully support, you should count on that it gets updates all the time to.
Has everyone forgotten about ShapeWriter? Its off the market now, but I think its way better than both ...

Swype doesn't force you to use the popup menu. YOu can just continue typing and it will select the top word in the pop up menu.
Haven't used SlideIT, I'm kind of put off at the ~$10 price, when swipe was included in my phone.
never cared got shapewriter, too slow and not as accurate. Slideit is s the most accurate and better than swype I think, but the lack of long press for numbers and punctuation kills it. If it had that, I would ditch swype in a sec.

In the app list, it's boring to use swype to search the good app with only the "first" letters.

Not necessarily.
With Swype if the word is not in the dictionary all you need to do is tap it out and the next time you swype those same letters the word is automatically formed for you.
I have several email addresses done this way and no need to change from lower to upper as Swype will do it for you.
Lemme see .... $5.99 or free? ... free or $5.99?

With SlideIT you must press + to add the word to the dictionary. and if the dictionary offer you a word that you never use you can just press - to remove this word from the dictionary.
