!!!If you have Android 2.1 the app now is in the market!!!
Android 2.2 and higher are also still supported
This is not another Auto Task Killer, no.
Thanks for all the help from everyone! We've moved into a lite and full version now on Android 2.2 and 2.3 phones. This is a new program which allows the user to specify alert levels to phone tasks and give you insight into what your phone is really doing. Make a call, ever wonder what apps may be listening? What's going on when you phone is in standby? In creating this, I will say that I've been surprised a few times at what is really going on. I want any and all feedback as well as we are trying to make this into something special. I am the actual developer of this app.
The full version has:
-Common Names and Actual Application Icons
-No Ads
-Access to all App Settings
-Ability to change alert level from List Tasks
-Removed Internet and Location Permissions
And we have a slew of other features planned for only the full version, but we don't want to spill the beans on those quite yet, but they will enhance the tool greatly!
Both versions now have the new UI as well.
Anyone who had the beta should be notified to upgrade to the lite version now.
Download Task Identifier Lite from your phone:
market://search?q=pname:com.task.identifier
Download Task Identifier Full from your phone:
market://search?q=pname:com.task.identifier.full
I've also attached a QR Code to scan for both versions. Or just search for Task Identifier in the market.
I hope you all find this useful and enjoy!!

Hehe, I like how the only comment for the app (5 stars and "awesome" as comment) is currently by a user named 'x2k'. Hmmm.
I've just installed it and it's been less than a minute and I got an alert from an app that no longer needs to sync...So I disabled it (every little bit of non-sync means longer battery life!).
So far it's looking very promising! I'll definitely report back on my experiences!
Okay, first big thing...
Can you please resolve the cryptic app names to their more friendly name variants?
It's hard to read and make out the com.blah designations.
Thanks!
So far it seems like a cool app. I've been using WatchDog for ages to alert me when an app misbehaves.
But I'm confused about this app. When would you want to be using this? Can you give an example?
I'll keep it installed and see how it goes. Thanks.

Thanks for trying. This is more of an app to alert you as to what your phone is doing, ie what loads at a given point in time on your phone.

Thanks. I'm playing around with it and actively trying to make notifications pop up I opened Facebook and Google Reader started, as did Maps. Weird.
Which brings me to a question: how do we know whether the task started was CAUSED by the current app I'm using, or Android just randomly started it?
For example, it's possible Facebook opened Maps in order to try to get my location, but I don't see the connection between Facebook and Google Reader. Which is why I ask if it's random, or the app I'm using is causing other tasks to run.

I've found when you start doing things you see patterns. On my old Eris while I was testing this, every time I made a phone call, ebay would start! Glad it seems to be working for you! Thanks!

You're welcome.
Sounds like a great troubleshooting tool. Nice work!
I'm liking this app more and more. A few more comments and requests.
Comments
* I like the main app window. Large fonts, long-press to get quick-help or short press to go to the item. Nice
* Screen off app start notification, nice!
Requests
1. Possible to get more detail about why or how an app was triggered? Like, was it triggered by a service? another app? etc. And did the triggered app take any actions? Like sending network traffic or queried the GPS and such?
2. The 'Setup Alerts' window is hard to read through, could you maybe add color so all the status 'Green' items have the word 'Green' in green font and so on?
Just added a 5 star rating on Market, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the suggestions. Those are features we truly will consider adding as it will just make the tool even better. Thanks!
There will probably be updates from time to time through the market

First of all, thanks for a great app.
I really like the fact that it reports on tasks/processes started while the screen was off!
I have some suggestions though:
1: When I click the icon in the app list to open the menu, it just shows the "Starting monitor" message and nothing else. I have to open an app to get the message in the pull down bar and click on that to start the application it self.
2: On my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 the layout of the application is just a bit to long for a full screen. We are talking about 1 cm or something.
3: I would very much like a log, so that I can check back, what applications started during screen off, and at what time/date.
4: The way the Android memory management works, I guess it's normal for Android to start and application/process to memory by itself from time to time. Is it possible to show this somehow? For what is interesting here is when an application is launching another application or process, and not when Android memory management is putting an application in memory.
Thanks for your great work, I'm looking forward to further updates to the application!
Just saw this on the front page and thought it looked pretty interesting. Installed a few minutes ago, but so far I like it. Not too intrusive with the pop-up.
As Namuna posted though it would be nice to get more detail.
Also to have the actual app name rather than com.xxx.
Really good work.
Installed.
I like the idea that we can see what tasks are really doing in the background. But as noted by some above, the notifications are a bit cryptic at the moment.
After installing and running the app, I started updating some of my other apps in App Market and my phone crashed. This has not happened before and I seems from my layman eyes that too many things might have been running in the background.
When the phone restarted, it too forever for anything to be displayed and the 3 widgets I had on the homescreen refused to load up. Again it seems to me that this app is popping up too many notifications - I have now stopped the app from starting up and running on start up.
I don't know whether this is unique to me or not though. I am running the app on Samsung Galaxy S (international) on stock Froyo with LauncherPro.
Still, I like this app and will use it more. Keep up the great work and many thanks.
Edit : just checked app settings again, and although I explicit unchecked app running on phone startup, the box is checked again. I unchecked the box and pressed save again. Re-entered app settings and the box is checked again. Am I missing something?
This looks very interesting.. So it's installed and ready for testing
Thank you very much for that app, it's awesome. I agree with the recent posters that the name of the app in addition to the com.blah.blubb would be a great help to identify the task. Also I'd like to see a possibility for a logfile.
Keep up the good work!
EDIT: I can hardly read the small, dark font when setting task levels since I use almost the very darkest display settings to save battery. So being able to chose the font color would be great but has absolutely no priority. Again: great app!Using it all day long now and I am surprised what tasks are being started!
Hello all! I had a thread but it was locked because it was a paid app. Now, there is a free one to check out. It's called Prox Lite and it has just been added to the Android market.
Prox makes use of the phone's proximity sensor and accelerometer to initiate an action. Prox figures out what orientation you are holding the phone and then activates that action when you swipe your hand across the proximity sensor. Prox Lite has 4 actions:
*Flat - Emulate home button
*Toward - Expand and contract notification panel
*Left - Launch phone dialer
*Right - Launch browser (google.com)
All you have to do is turn on the service through the app and then tilt the phone in the direction you are trying to activate the action for and then pass your hand over the proximity sensor and it will activate the action for that direction.
You can amaze your friends, and feel like a Jedi. Imagine the look on your friend's faces when you do things without even touching the phone itself. Just to ease your mind, Prox is disabled when the screen is off and when you are in a call. Normal proximity sensor usage is preserved during these situations to you don't have to worry about Prox doing things when you don't want it to

Here is another video made by one of our own members here at XDA. Thanks patrick848!
He also wrote a little write up here if you want to check it out.
And, here is a link to the android market
Download Prox Lite from Android Market
Download Prox Lite from GetJar
If you have an issue where it doesn't show up in the market or it says that your device is incompatible, I have made Prox Lite available to XDA peeps via direct apk. If your device will allow install from the market, please use the link above, otherwise, click here to download the apk directly. Downloading from the market allows for easier tracking so I would appreciate it if you would download it from there This is for the members that cannot find the version because of certain software...
P.S. Some users are having trouble with making this work properly. If you are having issues with the left and right actions, try just a slight tilt and then a swipe. Refer to the video for an example of this. Also, different phones have different proximity sensors and some of them just happen to work better than others. Give it a try to see what you think and don't forget to leave a rating in the market. I hope you enjoy this app

This is really cool. My biggest concern right now, having only just tried it for a few minutes, is potential battery drain. If it doesn't end up being too bad, i may consider trying the full version. It would be nice to be able to hide the notification bar icon, but the full version may already have that.
Battery drain is really not all that bad. The listeners are unregistered when the screen goes off. During normal phone use during the beta a few months ago, Prox was only using around 3 - 4 % battery during a normal day. But alas, this depends entirely on how much you actually use the phone itself. If your screen is on for the better part of the day, then drain will occur. But under normal use, it really isn't that bad. Thanks for the feedback

Yeah. I was originally going to put it into the Productivity category on the market, but I think it's more of a novelty than an actual productive applications. It's just cool to show people. There are some things in the paid version that can be put to actual use though. There is a Timer mode that activates an action based on how long you cover the sensor. It could be useful in a car dock or a cradle at home.
What version of Android are you running?

I picked up the pro version. So far it's pretty solid. Battery drain is pretty much non-existent, maybe 2% with a lot of screen time.
Some things I would like to see:
Tasker integration (this would be the best addition by far).
A combination of the Timed and normal types so you could hold over the sensor longer for a different option.
Being able to hide the icon in notifications.
Media button options like Previous Track, Play/Pause, Next Track.
Simulating a long-press of the search button to bring up Voice Actions.
Profiles that automatically change based on what app you're in.
Thanks for making this, I've been using it a lot today, and it has already become habit. Keeps my screen cleaner, too.

Im glad that you're liking it! A lot of the things you have mentioned have already been pointed out to me and I am thinking which ones will actually be possible. Some of the things will require root access. But I have a summer job atm (10 1/2 hour days) so I am not really tinkering with it right now. When I get back into school mode, you can pretty much expect to see some if not all of this added to the pro version. I appreciate the feedback and be on the lookout to some awesome future updates
P.S. please leave a comment and rating in the market
Do you have it on any other markets? AndroidPIT, SlideME or anything similar where I can buy it with a paypal account?
For some reason the Android Market site says it's only compatible with my Wildfire and not my Desire HD :S

It is not currently on any other market but the Android Market. I may add it to some of the ones you have mentioned but it may be a bit before it gets there.
My portal says that it should show up as compatible for the Desire HD. I see that you are running MIUI so that may be the reason for it not showing up. Some custom ROMs and leaked builds of Android cause this and I have no reason why.

Ok so I browsed through the market and came across a few apps that I wanna install but not sure whether it will actually do more harm then help.
Memory Booster - Looks good, a lot of positive reviews.
Easy Battery Saver - 253,291 5 star reviews. Any good?
Kaspersky Mobile - I'm using Kaspersky for my PC and it's pretty awesome, can I assume the same for the mobile version?
thank you
I like easy battery saver it works but you have to set it up btw
I'd choose easy battery saver too
Enviado desde mi Galaxy Nexus usando Tapatalk 2
Is there something specific you are trying to achiev or are just generally looking for some apps?
I think the Memory Booster app is some kind of automated taskmanger/taskkiller, sounds a bit weird , can't just pull more memory out of no where.
You did not tell us what kind of phone you use?
There are actually two stances on this kind of topic, one saying one should not interfere with androids built in task control, the other saying one should.
Are you having memory problems/performance issues?
Give the battery saver a try, it's free so no harm done .
Deactivating certain connectivity periodicly and smart screen brightness can really save alot of juice.
I'm not a fan of the battery saver apps, but if you configure them to your personal needs, they can work really well. You will just have to see if that works for you in daily use.
Lets dissect the kaspersky app:
'ANTI-VIRUS' part:
Hm well, the android antivirus programs are not that good in preventing (in my opinion).
Apps on the market with malicious content get pulled quite quickly. So there is not that much risk of running into one when just downloading popular apps from the android market.
If you download apps from untrusted 3rd party sites, it probably will detect alot of the already known malicous ones (what are you doing on those sites the first place though ).
I'm a bit concerned about the 'Automatic, cloud-based scanning of downloaded apps', privacy concerns? I just glanced at it, so this is no profund answer.
How much resources and battery does it consume?
'CALL & SMS FILTER' is a nice feature, if you need it, do you? There are also more lightweight apps out there to do it, if you just need this feature.
'PRIVACY PROTECTION' if you have a lockscreen with pattern or pin, no one can look at your phones content anyways.
If you don't have a lockscreen on, why did you give your phone away or leave it lying around if you have something to hide.
Okay if you are in a relation and your better half expects your phone to be unlocked, it being an anti-virus app is a pretty good excuse when having to explain why an sms and call hiding app is on your phone...
Last but not least 'ANTI-THEFT PROTECTION', this is the feature i would like. Something like this should actually be prebuild into any android phone and accessable through ones google account, i.e. google.com/phonecontrol .
There are more apps who offer this service, i can't really compare them at the moment. So if this feature is what you want, check the competition.
Again i have not used the app, so this is just my outside view.
7€ is not the cheapest app, it is your choice.
Don't solely base your decision on my opinion, but lets wait for some more opinions from other users.
Ive tried battery saver in the past and massively prefer Juice Defender to it.
More set up options and tweaks to apply so you can have your data periodically turned on to check stuff like twitter, mail etc.
I've been poking around on the market for a few days for an app that will keep track of how much time I'm using the device / what apps are in the foreground / which are getting the most use. Sort of like a data counter, but for eyeball time - so I can see, for example, that I'm spending way too much time in any given week / month in Tasker and Tapatalk, and that it's time to put down the damn phone and get some work done.
I found App Time Mini, but it's a little basic for this purpose. It puts a timer on each app you specify, but that's it. I'd like to be able to categorize apps and get a visual representation (graph) for their totals.
Anyone know of anything?
Hey actually your phone itself will have that information..atleast all HTC phones have it..however it is put behind some secret code or something..
Try elixir ..it's a widget app but will give this info..though you'll have to go deep inside that app...
However I don't know a app with graphs or other stuff..traffic widget or onavo gives you graphs about network usage...
Trying Elixir now, thanks.
I'd actually forgotten about the dial codes, but you are right, Usage under 4636 gives me a workable list. These dial codes work with more than just HTC too (using them on a Motorola Atrix). No go on a tablet tho.
For anyone unfamiliar, it's a pretty cool feature. There's a full list available here.

Hello,
I'm requesting feedback and suggestions for my new app, Apposite - it enables you to quickly access your installed apps without replacing your preferred launcher.
Think of it as an app drawer that adapts to you, the user. And lets you find apps by speaking the name, if you so wish.
Apposite automatically shows apps you want to run at any time. It uses an AI module to build a model of your app usage habits (e.g. you might play games more often when at home in the evenings, look at weather in the morning, make notes in school and so on).
You can call up the apps list via the ASSIST action (swipe up from home button, or long-press the hardware home button). There are also customisable widgets in case you don't want to replace your existing ASSIST handler.
Download here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.lipik.ai_drawer
I am seeking feedback regarding it's usefulness, and suggestions for improvement. Already pushed out an update yesterday incorporating user suggestions.
Thank you!
Working well so far!
Downloaded it yesterday, used it a few times since. Early days yet, but seems to work pretty well on my Galaxy Nexus.
I'm loving the simplicity of the app, and how the customization is available but just hidden.
After I have tried it for a few days, might try replacing the line of my 'go to' apps with your row widget.
:victory:
Much appreciated
Thanks! Hopefully it will get better as you use it, because the learning algorithm needs to see some usage before it starts making recommendations.
Btw, were you the one who bought a premium licence last night? If so, you are my first customer - so I will refund your buck fifty if you send me the order number
