I know there are tons of threads about this all over the place, but I am at the ends of my ropes. I have a MyTouch3g 1.2 and we all know that the only way to root it is the gold card way. Well I have tried all the microsd cards I have in the house and even purchased a kensington 2gb card like they suggested in the tutorial, but I still cannot make a successful gold card. I can't afford to keep buying new cards until I get one magical one. I got the Mytouch because I though developing for it would be so much easier than my cliq but at this point I can't even get that far.

That's the tutorial that I have been following for days, and still no go. I have tried ten different cards and I even overnighted a kensington 2gb card like it suggested in his tutorial still no go.
please post the detail information of failure.
which step you are in?
I get all the way to testing the cards and I get please format the card.
I had trouble with that too and found out I was openning the card as a logical disk and not the physical one and when I did open as physical disk and uncheck read only it all worked well.
In HxD go to Open disk and select physical disk and not the logical disk.
Hope this helps!
Hey thanks I will try that when I get home this afternoon.
Your are adding the goldcard.img to the logical disc and not PHYSICAL. Reformat, open the PHYSICAL and apply the .img
Well once I get home I will try it that way.
10. Take your SD card out of your phone and put it into the SD adapter it came with. Then put that into your computer so it shows up on your computer as Removable Disk.
11. Open the Hex Editor (Run as Administrator if one Vista or Windows 7
) and click on the Extra tab, then click on Open Disk. Under Physical Disk select Removable Disk (your SD card you just put into the computer). Make sure to UNcheck “Open as ReadOnly”. Click OK.
12. Goto the Extra tab again and click Open Disk Image. Open up the goldcard.img that you saved from your email. You should now have two tabs, one is the SD card (Removable Disk) and the other is the goldcard.img
Press OK when prompted for Sector Size 512 (Hard Disks/Floppy Disks).
13. Click on the Goldcard.img tab and click on the Edit tab and click Select All. Then click on the Edit tab again and click Copy.
14. Click on the Removable Disk tab (Your SD Card) and select offset 00000000 to 00000170 then click on the Edit tab and click Paste Write.
15. Click on File then click Save.
Taken from Goldcard @ unlocker
I think what I have been doing wrong is the physical disk part. I will try it the right way when I get home and see what happens.
That did the trick. Thanks so much.
stealing your thread...
well, I have been doing that part right... unfortunately I still am unsuccessful in rooting my replacement myTouch with perfect SPL 1.33.0007... my cards don't ask me to reformat or anything; they load up just fine. I've also tried every sappimg I could find online, including all that amon ra offers, and a few others I found. so, I feel like there's only one of two reasons why this doesn't work (maybe three).
1. This phone that I have with SPL 1.33.0007 is different from the ones everyone else is claiming they rooted... (i noticed mine is sapp30000, and not sapp10000)
2. The goldcard process isn't being done right
(3. I need to try another card, even though I bought this 2GB Kingston that everyone else is having success with...)
So, I go back and go through the whole process of creating my goldcard(s) again... I don't do any writing down or typing of the cid that I get through adb shell, I copy it directly to notepad instead... I've used two different reversers, the first being qmat, and the web reverser that automatically changes the first two characters to zeros. This reversed cid also goes into notepad for safe keeping. So far, I have requested 3 different goldcard.img using the same reversed cid string. All three times, the goldcard.img I get differ by a few bits (?); they're not exactly the same. Is this supposed to be the case? I have attached all thre below...
I just need some assistance in making sure I'm doing everything right... I might just need to send this phone back for another replacement... and hope that I get one that is rootable...
Thanks to all in advance...
im honrstly thinking your cards arent being formatted right. i and every other perso i ae read about ave had jothing but success with the correct sappimg and an 8gb sandisk.

Hey All-
I thought the issue with SD card would have been fixed with the T-mobile WM2003 ROM update (4.01.16). Although I am not sure if that is what did it. I did not have the problem until I updated ActiveSync (v3.7.1 - Build 4034) when it came out about a week ago. I have an ActiveSync backup file (backup.stg) from BEFORE I upgraded all of this (a different partnership as well). Is there a way to extract the data from that file to restore my SD card?
Many Thanks
Out of curiosity, what brand of SD card are you using? I'm using a Kingston 512 mB but have read on a few forums problems with the Kingston loosing content in the XDA II. I have not experienced the problem.
Ed
No this problem still persists, I've used a PNY,Sandisk & Panasonic SD card in my XDA I running WM2003 4.01.16 and it blows them all away. I've tried everything and all the ROM from's YORCH'S Kitchen. They obviously only tested the XDA ROM'[email protected] T-Mobile without any SD memory attached at all, and couldn't have cared for customer feedback. However, saying that it's suprising the amount of PDA users I know, whom don't have additional memory attached. I hope there's a resolution soon, in which ever form, upgrade, reg-keys anything to stop this annoyance.
Cheers.
I am using a San Disk 128Mb card. Any info on how to get into that Backup.stg file? Thanks
Yes, I do believe it is a bug that most bug testers missed to point out with the WM2003 4.01.16. I've encountered the same problem and lost all the files saved on my SD card (San Disk SD Card). The sad part about this bug is that your lost files are unrecoverable!

Hey scottychef, for that just go do the following on your PC:
First you need to go to "My Computer" in flile explorer then you select Tools menu and then "Fonder Options" and under the "View" tab check "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and then find the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\"YourUserName"\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\"YourOldProfile"
And copy the .bak file into your current profile directory.

Some people came to the conclusion that the sd card erasure was something to do with the Today configuration and that when they chose the default screen etc the problem went away.
After going around the bend with my SD Card being erased/corrupted on nearly daily basis, and being fortunate enough to have friends with both XDA I’s & II’s running both PPC 2002 & 2003 I thought I’d set out and scour the registry to see if anything was missing that could be causing the problem, and I instantly noticed a one thing. On my version of 2003 (4.01.16 T-mobile) there is no key referring to FAT file system for the SD Card, which both the XDA I (PPC 2002-O2) & XDA II (PPC 2003-O2) have.
Also the FATFS.DLL which exists under the \Windows folder (Hidden of course) on both PPC2002(O2) & PPC2003(O2) is not present on the T-Mobile (4.01.16) ROM, However there is a FATFSD.DLL referenced in \HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS but not linked to the Storage Card
So I've simply made substitute keys from the ones missing.
Since I’ve entered the following Keys, I’ve nearly gone a week without a single hiccup. Now it may be too early to tell, but if a few of you guys with this problem should try it and it works for you, then problem solved.
Here’s what to do.
Install the PMH Registry Editor (freeware) to your XDA then navigate to
\\HKLM\Drivers\PCMCIA\SDCard
Add the following REG_SZ key:
Value name: FSD
Value data: FATFSD.DLL
Also, I’m not quite sure if the next key adds any performance/stability but was present on the XDA II and not the XDA I, but I added it anyway
Add the following REG_DWORD key:
Value name: BlockTransferSize
Value data: 64
Could be a combination of either key or one or the other, or neither, but I haven’t the time to try each permutation. Or maybe I've just been lucky this week and It'll get wiped over the weekend, I'll keep you posted.
Now reset the device and good luck, plus please post your findings as I could be barking completely up the wrong tree!!
It happened to me also!! I've bought a new MMC card, 256 MB,, and 3 days ago, I woke up & found my card wiped out!
I've used a software called Easy Recovery Pro, and I've recovered all my lost file on the card
I used a digital camera to create a new drive ( I: ) for the card, so that I can recover the files!! Is there any other mean to map the MMC or SD card to a drive??
anyway, I just read some notes on this forum, and I've found that its a bug in windows 2003, but to solve the problem, always format your card using FAT32, and before formating it, just switch the today screen to DEFAULT, then format, and after the format completes just put your favourite theme :? (you could say its crap, but beleive me, it worked, am using my card now without any problems no more)
Micro$oft is weird
I'm bumping this. Is it still working, spadb? Did anyone else try this procedure?

Well maybe, but i don't think so, becuase when my MMC was wiped, I noticed that Windows has changed the file system to FAT32, although it was FAT16 before!!
So all what I think is that Windows needs the storage card to be formatted as FAT32 and not anything else!
I did formatted my MMC using FAT32, and now its working so fine, no wippings no data loss, it works like a charm
Am still using my MMC card without fear of getting wipped!
spadb thats a interesting fix, you might also wants to label your card (
as in reformat and then give it a name, that solved it for me and its been
months since my last erase).
HTH
Got the same problem
I tried most of the T mobile Roms they have the same bug which is painfull to restore data to the Storage :S and relocate the shortcuts..anyway if u just wanna try how this could be deleted try to pull off the sd out then put it in do it several times it will be wiped I tried that on purpose with the newest Tmobile rom and today wiped again by itself with an old Tmobile Rom 4.01.00 and the SD is on the FAT32. I just can't tell what should we do in this case nor the Tmobile wm2003 are good neither the ATT with the sound clipping, If there's some1 could get us the best Rom ever tested or a way to fix all this bug we'd appreciate the help.. P.S my SD is 256M.B
GOD DAMN IT!!!!!!! My 256 MMC card got wipped again!!!!!
I hate this!!!!! I hate it I hate it I hate it
I wanna know if the SD card registry solution posted by "spadb" works with MMC cards as well!
I will recover my files & format the card again..
I hope this time it won't be wipped again!
by the way, is there any software which can map the SD / MMC card to a logical drive under windows, while the device is on the cradle (without using card readers)?
I'm getting this problem too. I've had my XDA II for less than a week and its wiped my SD card twice. Looking around other pocketpc forums on the web it appears that other people are experiencing this too. I wonder if this is a bug in the latest Windows Mobile 2003 update?
I've tried using the repair option in an evaluation copy of storage tools and it appears to be able to restore the data. It's almost as if the FAT is getting corrupted including the backup FAT.
I'm using FAT32 for the filesystem. I know my SD card is ok because it has worked 100% on my Orange SPV phone previously.
Going to phone O2 tomorrow because this is getting beyond a joke.
Cheers,
Richard.
name ur SD card storage or somthing and make it fat 32 ive never had a sd erase yet (touch wood) that was using a sandisk 256mb card, soon to get a simpletech 256mb (speedy )
What tool can I use to label the SD card? Storage tools doesn't appear to have that option.

Richard.

For all of you guys who lost their data from their SD cards, you can ALWAYS get your data back using any SD Card Reader or Digital Camera.
Just put your SD card in the card reader or the cam & run any file recovery software on the removable disk which appears whenever you connect the card reader / cam to your PC, and you will restore all of your files.
I've restored all of my files using this simple way of recovery. 8)
I have an application for my Hermes (Cingular 8525) that came on a 1-Gb micro-SD card. I have backed up the application in a RAR file and unRARed it to a larger (2-Gb) micro-SD card. When I try to run it, I get a hardware ID error. It seems that there is a file that likely contains the CID identifier of the micro-SD card, which is unique to the card and is not affected by formatting. What I would like to know is if there is any application which will run on either my Hermes or my PC which will read out and display the CID identifier of an SD or micro-SD card.
The S in SD means Secure, the application you have is locked to the memory card so there is little you can do, would this be iGO 8 per chance on its rather small capacity card?? - Mike
The app is i-Go which I purchased in February. What I am hoping to do is to get a new 8Gb micro-SD and put that plus Tom-Tom (for North America) on it so that I don't find myself having to swap cards when I travel. Currently I have some music along with Tom-Tom on a 2Gb micro-SD. My goal is to only have to swap the SIM cards when I travel, not the micro-SD.
Complain to iGO, their insistance on supplying this package on too smaller memory card is the sort of practice that will generate illegal copies of their software. They should offer the package on far larger cards in this day and age, it is a real shame they elected to lock down the application to an undersize card - Users such as yourself who want to purchase software correctly should not have to put up with this sort of draconian measure - Mike
Actually when I bought iGo, I asked for a 2Gb micro-Sd and they told me that they only supplied it on a 1Gb card. On top of that, they charged an extra amount because it was on a micro-SD card instead of a regular SD card. The price was really quite exorbitant - $300 including shipping just for the map of Israel. TomTom maps are $100 for all of North America (and only $50 if you do an annual upgrade). However, for some insane reason, iGO is the only GPS map software for Israel - Garmin and TomTom don't have it.
In looking over the supplied software from iGO, I noticed that there is one file called license.db which seems to contain the CID number of the card. I thought I would experiment with putting their app on a larger card and hacking that file to change the number to the CID of the larger card - except that I can't find any utility that will read out the CID. Hence my post.
I also would like to know the ID of my SD Card.... any idea how to do that?
I can't experiment with this right now, but you might try popping the card into a USB reader attached to a laptop or PC. Then, on that machine, open a CMD (DOS) window, browse to the root of the card, and type DIR and press enter. The resulting screen should show you a list of all the files in the root directory of the card. The second line in that list should tell you the "Volume Serial Number".
Is THAT what you're looking for? If so, you should also be able to edit it, using a program like WinHex. Simply make the large (2GB) card have the same VSN as the one the software was delivered on.
Hope this helps,

That will give you the Partition-ID in form XXXX-XXXX
what he and me would need is the "PSN" which is written in the CID Register of a microSD-Card; the Product serial number PSN (32bits binary integer).
Does anyone has an idea, how you can read this, i think some programs do read this Number during the registration of the card to the System, i am a noob and haven't an idea how to get to this information
i dont want to change it, i just need to know it.
I've got the CID in C# in Windows XP/Vista. No luck with Windows Mobile 2003 SE (I haven't got anything newer to try it with).

You send IOCTL_SFFDISK_DEVICE_COMMAND with deviceIOControl.
Works only with SD cards plugged into a reader attached directly to the pci bus, it doesn't work with usb readers, you need admin rights for the call, it needs to be compiled for x86 instead of AnyCPU, it's flaky...
My pocket pc experiments have ended in misery. I think the driver for the SD Bus Host must be programmed to deal with the calls or something. It's too low level for me, my understanding is minimal...
Hi ,
im searching too for a way to copy igo license card
i think this tool is probably the first step to success
copy the file to your PPC insert the card you want to now the id and run (works only on PPC)
The license.db works together with the card id i found a field by opening
the license.db with normal hexeditor where the id is stored ( field called "secid" ) but no way to change it because the file gets unreadable for igo
we need a way to change the id in the license.db
sorry for my bad english
But is there a way to change or fake a card ID for new cards?
is there a solution yet?
Thank you for this tread,
I'm looking to read SD CID (32 * bits) using Pc SD/MMC card reader, i have a C# code here.
But this code don't work over my PC card reader, DeviceIoControl return false for a physical device of the SD card.
I have too add the driver or dll API to etablish protocol comunication to send command !!
Thank in advance for any idea and contribution

Yes there is ,see thread id 673064 on this forum, last reply from me.
Does anyone have a working app for this, which can operate over the USB? If the adb.exe of Android can read the CID, other apps should also be able to. The GET CID command exists for cards. Why is it difficult coding it?
One more qn.. Is the CID register same as the Container ID ?
any news!?
What is the situation?
Hello all. I am trying this on a Windows Vista ultimate 32 bit and with multiple cards and have not got a "succesful" one yet. The cards i have tried:
1gb SanDisk class 2
1gb transcend class 2
256 stock card from a blackberry
8gb adata class 6
8gb transcend class 6
2gb kingston and none of the cards seems to have work
tried using a built in sd card read and from the device and neither would work.
for example on the 2gb kingston
I formated with windows to fat32 defaults for everything else
i got the cid which was 02544d534430324738ab7b968d009178 right from mytouch screen.
i used qmat to reverse the cid and got 7891008d967bab3847323044534d5402
so the one I should put in to the site should be 0091008d967bab3847323044534d5402 right?
submited that number for goldcard.img
opened image with hex editor and then card thru the card reader in hex editor with read only uncheck. copied the first 0 to 170 offsets and overwrote the actual disk and saved those changes. Everytime then I removed the card and put back in it asked to format the card. and when I do it from the device and unplug the USB cable it says the sd card is blank or not using a supported format. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. I think I followed the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4289899&postcount=1 to the T and with all these cards something else has to be wrong.
If anyone can tell me what I am messing up it would be greatly appreciated
When you run the Hex editor program are you right-clicking and selecting Run as Administrator? If not, try doing that and report back the results. Also, are you copying "up TO 170" or "up THROUGH 170", complety overwriting the 170 line of data? The instructions worked for me using a 2GB Samsung microSD and a memory card reader built into my printer.
Yeh I am doing thru the 0170 not stopping at the beginning. Not doing run as admin but I have uac turned off but I will try that and report back.
still not working at all just does the same thing. No I am lost since there are alot of people that says that it works. I tried a different kingston card with the cid of 02544d534430324735aae24083007754
the reverse is 5477008340e2aa3547323044534d5402 and what i submited was
0077008340e2aa3547323044534d5402
copied over the hex in admin mode to disk after a fresh format at the start of the process remove and reinsert and did the same thing
for those who have done it successfully did you use vista or xp?
i used windows 7 and it worked fine for me.
Windows 7 here as well. Just posted some information about gold cards on the forums. Check out that post, it might help:

I just recently bought a Sandisk 32Gb class 10 microSD card. I got everything set up and I've been using it for a couple of days now.
Last night I just was using msn app on the phone then it just kinda kicked me off and I couldn't use the phone properly and it rebooted and said that the disk was either blank or it has files with different file allocation. ie fat 32 ntfs all that jazz.
I can not mount the card and i cannot format it again.
So scrounging around I found a SD card adapter for the computer and wacked that in the old port. It shows that it's there but it can not be opened.
I also can not view it's properties it just acts as if it's reading for ages.
Then it crashes explorer.
i tried opening it from command
it can't be opened but after opening the path for c becomes
c:\yujuju as if someone had typed it in.
i'm almost suspicious that it was a virus sent over the network through a program on my phone.
are there known viruses capable of making your micro sd cards unreadable?
if it's not a virus and it's just some kind of error on the micro sd card...
are there anyoptions for it? (has anyone made any recovery programs for SD cards you can download using forced mount methods or anything like that?)
I know i can send it back to the place of purchase but it means i have to pay for it to be sent to another state before they'll even look at it and if they don't think it's a manufacturer fault they'll charge me for it and the time spent trouble shooting. I'm a student and I can't really afford to do that
Just a quick note. I'm using cynogen 7.0.3 Desire
it is a HTC bravo. HBoot 6.93.1002
not sure if you'd need anymore detail than that..
please help :3
update// I just was looking around and I read about a website called recovery-filedotnet
and i downloaded the tool. When i try and scan the SD card the program crashes.
I used the demo version... I don't think this is going to end well. sigh.
Anyone with any knowledge that may help with out having to send it back to the company?
Hi,
Sorry, can't help you with recovering contents of your micro SD card. If you don't want to recover the SD card contents, have you tried formatting it on the PC (sorry, I couldn't tell from your posts whether you've tried that)?
There are also known to be many counterfeit micro SD cards out there. Basically, the counterfeit cards don't have the reported storage size, for example they may have 4GB instead of 32GB, so trying to write more than 4GB will result in data being overwritten (and probably trashing of file allocation tables).
I'm not saying yours is a counterfeit, but just something to be aware of.
You could check out h2testw which tests read/write performance, but also checks whether the SD card is the reported size (I think you'll need to format the SD card first, though).
Here's a link to a post I made using h2testsw on a micro SD card:

I opened the Microsoft Management Console and opened storage and when the card is connected to the PC it goes in an endles loop of searching for drives.
This is all very strange if you ask me.
To make it perfectly clear. I can not mount or format from the device, from clockwork mod using ROM manager. I can not mount or format from a PC using the GUI or the command prompt. Using Microsoft Management Console fails.
The other weird thing is my computer was stuffed this morning. I couldn't view the details of my computers properties. The wireless keyboard couldn't be used.
The CPU and stuff was listed as unkown.
I did a system restore to an earlier date logged in to safe mode
Even though it's restored successfully it doesn't recognise that my anti virus is running. I had to enable things in msconfig and my remote access was ENABLED!
I don't know if this was related.
But I'm feeling rather depressed after all this.
I've run spyware and anti virus and nothings picked up. So EH today sucks.
But lets just focus on the SD card for now hey? ^-^
Just to be absolutely certain it's the card, go get ubuntu live cd or gparted live cd, boot from it and try and see if the card works there. Imo it's fubar but last post questions it slightly. If you cannot get any life out of it in gparted send it back.

take russ18uk's advice, if that doesn't work, you'll just have to giveup and reformat it.

are they linux operating systems? Are you asking me to try and access the
device using a different? OS?
If so I'll wait till I'm in my programming class tomorrow and just boot the linux OS and see if it works.
Maybe ask my I.T teachers for assistance. But I think I knew I wasn't going to find a solution for this. I just can't afford to pay for postage costs at the moment. I've requested a returned warranty and I'll see what they ahve to say.
Sigh what a god awful day. @shakes tiny little micro SD card and yells [email protected]
(ironically I bought a Sandisk one beause they write the standards for MicroSD cards I believe haha, shot my self in the foot I wish I bought a kingston one now.)
@side note.. is this a picture of things to come? people come to me with computer problems and as a tech when i can't work things out i'll say ever cuss word under the sun in anger? lol i hope there's no customers around when i'm working XD maybe i should go get some anger management classes
Thanks to all who posted replies. Looks like I'll be sending the card back to the company I bought it from. poop!
I recently bought a new and faster Micro SD card for my Epic 4G. I tried to copy the files on my old Micro SD card over through my Windows computer; however Windows Explorer failed. I have a number of applications installed on my SD and Windows was just not happy with .gz format files, etc.
A number of back up and cloning utilities were suggested at various forums; the one that I found be the best, in terms of small footprint and ease of use, is the HDD Raw Copy tool from HDD Guru. It is free, so small and light that you can run it as a portable app, easy to use and did I mention free?
You can find the app on the HDD Guru website. (Forum rules prevent my including the link in this post.)
It is going to be part of my tool kit from here on out. I hope this helps someone.
Here you can download a free copy
Thanks for the post! Was looking for a solution to this, tried copying in OSX, Windows, TeraCopy no luck so far... Your solution looks promising!
This program will only work for two SD cards that are the same size. I tried to clone my 8Gb SD4 card to my new 16Gb SD10 card and it did exactly that: it turned the 16Gb into a 8Gb SD card.
That's because it directly copies the partitions. You need to resize them afterwards. I used minitool partition wizard (can't post links, google it), which did the trick nicely. For moving the contents of my 2GB SD card over to a 16GB one, the procedure was pretty straightforward: write contents to an image using HDDRawCopy, use the same tool to write the image to the new card, and then resize using the partition wizard.

Minitool Partition would make my laptop go bonkers , making it run in emergency grub command prompt with no help
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?
thanks for this.. im bizarrely going a backward route.. from a 32gb class 4 card, to a 16gb class 10 card.. (work that one out)
Which involves the fun of reducing the partitions on the 32gb first, and then raw copying :S

This is a good example of someone who would like to help, but only gives a half solution, thus misleading the inexperienced user.

Heaven helps those who help themselves.
It's a nice tip. Everyone interested should read the all thread (1 page!). 4th post.
Alternative
Using ADB, has in my experience, always! been the best and most secure way to pull/push from and to my LT18i.
It's simple, light and secure.
get sdk-tools and extract it to your ROOT drive on Windows (EG. C:/)
(Im not experienced enough on this forum to post outside links, so use google and search for Android SDK.)
In your sdk-tools folder, now make a folder called:
sdcard_{today's date}
Example - sdcard_08042013
Plug in your phone, leave it on Charge only.
Now -
Step 1 - get a DOS window (Start - Run - cmd)
Step 2 - in that window enter (use copy/paste): cd c:\sdk-tools
Step 3 - in that window enter (use copy/paste): adb devices
(that ensures that adb is running, and your device is connected)
Step 4 - if using ICS, in that window enter: adb pull /mnt/sdcard sdcard_{date}
If using JellyBean enter: adb pull /storage/sdcard0 sdcard_{date}
Wait....done!
And when you are ready to push the backup to your phone again:
adb push sdcard_{date} /mnt/sdcard
Just for the record, if you break your phone or sdcard doing this, I hold no responsibillity. You do this, it is your doing.
I am not an expert in ADB nor android phones in generel. This information is something i've picked up along the way.
This is an ALTERNATIVE, and not to be mistaken for the ONLY CORRECT way.
There are plenty of other options to achieve the same goal, this is just one of them.
Good luck and Godspeed!
Using Linux / Ubuntu to copy / clone
I'm currently moving from a 16GB to a 32GB UHS-I microSD card...and I'm just copying the files over in Ubuntu Linux (with Show Hidden Files enabled in Nautilus [the file management system])...simply enabled SHOW HIDDEN FILES in the VIEW menu.
The phone is on and active...connected by USB to my laptop.
I'm hopeful it will work, and I'll re-post / update this if it does.
== UPDATE ==
Yep...that all worked sweetly! The problems other people have experienced might be simply down to the fact that a RAW copy is not taking place, so some of the "hidden" system files etc. are not being copied in Windows etc.
sorry in this old and stupid topic but I think it should be deleted because I tried the tip and didn't read the other posts and end up screwing my sd cards.
the thing is that you really don't need anyting to clone an SD card and to work it with android.
the problem is that people don't actually copy all the files because there are hidden files. they have to check "VIEW HIDDEN FOLDERS" on windows explorer or something like that. and then copy. it will work flawless.
no need for 3rd party stupid clone moron programs that screw your sd cards. this topic is just useless and missleading and will trick the ones who don't read the entire topic.
I think it should be deleted asap.

No this is the best way of cloning SD cards. If you have a basic seup of your card then sure you might get away with just copying files over. If like me however you have a partitioned card with an ext2/3/4 partition this is the better way of cloning cards.

it's the same ****. you just have to partition before copying,

I copied everything using HDD Raw copy. Now I am mini tool partition wizard. The problem i am facing is that I want everything to be present in exFat format so I can copy stuff bigger than 4GB. Now I when I create partition on the unallotted part of microSD ( I am going from 32GB to 64GB) it's not letting me use merge command as is saying it's not available in free home edition. Also the format or the microSD is showing as other not exFat.
I am trying to go from 32 to 64GB and keeping exFat as the format of the card.
Thanks
Nope

No... You mistakenly did something with your cards w/o first double checking. The post wasn't bad. It's actually pretty straightforward and the best way to CLONE your cards. Don't blame the post for your mistake.

not sure if you are a troll or if you are just stupid. who the **** are you to call me a liar? I nothing to my cards. I've confirmed that what I said is completely true. you don't need to clone. you just need to copy the information. obviously you need to copy ALL of the information so if you stupid retard don't understand what hidden files are it's not my fault.

Well obviously you are the stupid one indeed, I get the feeling that you are a horse with eye-flaps on dude, don't you read what the other dudes here are saying ? It looks like you are total noon without even a basic knowledge of filesystems.. Just so you know: android is based on LINUX and WINDOWS IS NOT - IT IS A STANDALONE OS THAT IS QUITE DIFFERENT FROM LINUX... So there it goes - windows uses FAT32 or NTFS - Linux DOES NOT and nor does ANDROID, and what you don't know at all is that WINDOWS FILE SYSTEMS DO NOT SUPPORT FILE PERMISSIONS THE WAY THAT THE ANDROID SYSTEM SUPPORTS IT.
So people, what I am trying to say is that, if you are a basic user and use your SD for pics and music only - the windows way would work (probably) BUT if you are using your SD for apps and etc, actually the ADB way might just be the best for you
And finally - I don't mean to be mean or to offend anyone, it's just that noob uneducated guy that expresses his non-proffesional "beliefs" in a way that is offensive to the users who actually have contributed to the thread and he tries to get a very useful thread deleted, which is driving me crazy nuts! I hate flaming other people and I hate seeing a noob that flames good guys for the sakes of post number and a stubborn hatefull debate - that's why I am flaming the flamer.
And some advice - dude, please don't use the f-word on forums - its not cool - its kiddish - you're probably thirteen y-o
Still a good way to clone and resize and partition! Thank you.
On my AndroidOne Nokia 7.1 I noticed that the SD card is mounted as /storage/XXXX-XXXX where XXXX-XXXX is the volume's serial number.
Here's how I cloned my smaller SD card onto a larger one:
Formatted the 200GB µSD using http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm (Windows says it’s too large)
Copied using ROBOCOPY /S /ZB /V g:\ f:\
Changed the volume serial number using SysInternals’ VolumeId.exe:
PS> cmd /c vol f:
Volume in drive F is LUMIAUSD200
Volume Serial Number is 1F04-2747
PS > Volumeid.exe f: B14F-130C
VolumeId v2.1 - Set disk volume id
Copyright (C) 1997-2016 Mark Russinovich
Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com
Volume ID for drive f: updated to b14f-130c
PS > cmd /c vol f:
Volume in drive F is LUMIAUSD200
Volume Serial Number is B14F-130C
After that I inserted the new card into the phone, and voilà! all apps were happy (since the mountpoint had not changed).
