Camera Speed - Fresh 1.1 (1.5) Versus 2.1 Roms - Hero CDMA Android Development

I had a general question about the camera shutter speed.
In Fresh 1.1 (the 1.5 ROM). The Press and then Capture speed is incredibly fast. It's almost instantaneous.
However, I noticed that in the 2.1 ROMs, (I tried Fresh 2.0d and Damage 1.1 and IC3ROM 2.5), whether it's HTC or AOSP, that the press and then capture speed takes about 2 seconds.
Is this a kernel issue, or is the camera apps themselves? Can it be fixed to be fast like it is in Fresh 1.1?

I'm running dc2.08 and the shutter speed is instantaneous....

Weird, I'm running IC3ROM 2.5, based on dc2.08, and it's not...

I have DC .08 and I have the same problem with the camera slowly taking the picture. I had to download Fast Camera to get the instant photo.

I always had a slight delay in 1.5
2.1 does seem a little worse. The camera program changed. Some people have suggested going into the settings and disabling auto focus which helps speed things up.
Personally I enable a 2 second delay because ever since 1.5 there was a slight delay and putting the timer in tells me when the camera will take the picture for real. Enabling the timer really helps with camera shake.

Slow camera

Hi,
My camera is very very slow. The quality seems good but when filming and moving the phone everything is very blurry. Is this normal / common issue?
If I take a picture of something it has to be absolutely still otherwise the picture is blurred.
When I direct it to a wall which is 1 color the camera if very fast, but when I move it to a colored area with lights etc, it flickers 1 time and then it goes very slow, as if some filter is applied in areas which are lighter.
I get this also and upgrading the radio has not solved the problem.
I've noticed that it seems to be fast in daylight?
Theres a camera trick in the forums - kaiser I think about switching off the phone (sleep mode by pressing the power button) whilst the camera is on and switching it back on again improving the speed but I have not been able to make it work.
The Polaris camera is very good in daylight conditions! If you try to take pictures in low light conditions the fps will drop so that it seems like it is very slow.
Try this little trick for videos or pictures in low light conditions with max fps:
1. Activate camera with camera button
2. Put your finger on the camera lens and hold it there
3. Turn of Screen / Put Polaris into sleep mode and wait 5 - 8 seconds
4. Activate Polaris screen again with power button
5. Now you can take pictures / videos with max fps!
But be aware of the fact, that with this little trick the iso lightening won't work anymore and the pictures will be darker and have lower quality!
After using the camera in better light conditions, everything will be as before the trick!
WOW! and that actually DID work
thanks for tip friend, I can live with the lower quality if I can get a decent video recording... The ones I've done before were rubbish. I would have been embarassed to show them to anyone... except maybe at a 60's convention..the blurryness was a little psychadelic!
The trick seems to work! Isn't there a way to modify the rom to always disable the light filter?
The other front camera is always working very fast, it's just the one on the back.
Thanks!
Maybe UDK might build it into his v9 release? (hint, hint!)
As far as i know there is no chance to tweak some software or a rom so that the problom won't occur again. When starting the camera it's hardware will always activate the iso lightning and therefore there will be those fps drops in low light conditions.
It has something to do with the lack of hardware drivers which could keep high fps rates also in low light conditions..... BUT i'm not sure because of the diamond!
If you compare it with the diamond, there ARE some video drivers but the performance of the camera is nearly the SAME as on Polaris.... in some situations even worse and less fps rates!

It has absolutely nothing to do with drivers. The phone's night mode isn't simply adjusting the ISO. The phone is allowing more light into the sensor, thus keeping the shutter open longer. Doing so blurs the picture if you move around. Any phone with a night mode does the same thing. In fact any digitial camera with a nightmode will also do this.

OMG, it works! thx a lot!
Can I ask how to modify this trick via a .reg file?
As said above, this cannot be done. You'll have to do it manually each time.

Ok, but how about setting a value for nightmode, so it wont be used in mediocre lit areas thus increasing performance?(maybe to finally allow to make some nice, steady pictures) I think HTC overdid it a little.
And how can you explain this trick, fooling phone that it's complete darkness, so it decides to turn nightmode off? Kinda weird.
Also what LightSensorHz(50) registry value does?

Camera trick?

When I had the tilt, I could easily speed up frames per second on the camera by turning the unit off, covering the lens, turning it back on and waiting a few seconds (AND EVENTUALLY USED A CAB FIX). This would allow me to use the camera/video in low light conditions with little lag. Is there a similar fix for the Fuze?
Also, I've been asking, people have been looking...is there a VGA full screen dialer available? Anywhere?
I would be interested in that to...
I don't see the horrible lag on my fuze, that I had on the tilt.
ya but when taking a video it drags a little when things move semi-fast... kinda blurrs and speeding up the Fps would probably help that
specially on low light conditions.

[Q] ICS: CM9 Beta 7 vs Virtuous Quattro?

I'd like to start by saying this is my first post. I have used XDA since I got my HTC Vision and am a huge fan of this website, I would like to start with a comparison of CM9 Beta 6 with beta 7 kernel and Virtuous Quattro RC3
I am coming the Virtuous G-Lite v1.0.7 rom and absolutely love the speed and battery, but I think its time to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich.
After I test these two today I will let you know what I think of the two. Looking forward to your responses and why.
Here's what I will mainly be looking for
Overall speed
Battery life
Keyboard backlight
Fast switching b/w apps especially Messaging & Browser
Fast web browser
Working GPS
Toggles (Wifi, BT, Torch, GPS, Data & Brightness)
Customization / Options
Cyanogen Mod 9.0.0 RC0 Beta 6 w/ Beta 7 kernel (for working wifi)

Seemed pretty zippy, didnt install all my apps. Quadrant score of 2251 at max CPU frequency. opening up phone was a tad slow.
Cant get an accurate rating on the battery life but 4% went by when testing everything in about 15 min.
keyboard backlight works! does NOT need to be set to auto in order to work.
Messaging opens swiftly, browser opening and home page load was sub-par
GPS works perfectly
Like the toggles above the date, saves room. easy set up
Nice homescreen options, themes, profiles, lock screen shortcuts, dev options/performace, also like how the "turn on USB storage" screen pops up as soon as you connect your USB
Dislikes
Not too much to complain about seems like a good daily ROM. Everything seems to work fine. Unfortunately due to time and impatience I cant get a good grip on how decent the battery life was. If you know this please let me know! I have only read about it having bad battery life..

Virtuous Quattro RC3

Seemed faster than CM9. Scored a 2195 on Quadrant, 3489 for CPU.
Battery life isnt as good as G-lite so far, seems better than CM9. Have read someone got 30% bettet than gingerbread?
keyboard backlight only works if "auto brightness" is selected
no lag between apps it seems, once again, I have not backed up all my apps that I normally have..
Slight lag because of an auto google sign in
GPS works but is kind of laggy at initial opening, 2nd restart works perfect.
Toggles are great, many customizable options, has switches but also the classic press to turn on. I also liked the birghtess slider toggle vs 24% 50% 75% Auto. etc..
VERY customizable, cool tweaks with battery and clock in status bar, many options with lock screen pretty neat stuff! Also has the auto turn on usb storage, must be an ICS thing?
Overall seemed like a great ROM, better than CM9 in my opinion, came with the latest gapps so that was nice I didnt have to flash that. Also boots up very fast!
Max CPU can be set to 1920 MHz instead of 1843 MHz, I would never run it everyday at this speed, but again just a nice little tweak. Really like the Quattro Control.
Dislikes
Not much for dislikes besides all the initial lags with first time using of apps. I wish I did not have to have Auto Brightness on for the keypad to work, at night or in movies.. etc I would miss being able to have brightness all the way low AND have my keypad backlight. With Quattro, it only works with it on Auto (which in dark rooms is set to about 25%)

While both these two ICS seem to be a major improvement from Gingerbread, I am not sure if any ROM will beat the battery life of G-Lite v1.0.7! I could go for 2 hours before I went under 90%, with ICS it seems to drain pretty quick. If G-lite had the same type of toggles Quattro did, I would definitely be keeping G-lite. Anyways these were my opinions of CM9 and Quattro in comparison to GB. Let me know what you think!
I am using CM9 Nightly (13.05) and like it. But there is one problem with GPS drivers, most of navigation apps didnt work. F.e.:
- Sygic (not working)
- Navigon (not working)
More replies would be great here. I'm rooting a friend's Desire Z and am trying to choose between them. I have CM9 on my Galaxy S2, and initially planned to put that on the Desire Z, but from inspecting both ROMs, Virtuous seems to have the edge.
Camera Working or not?
Hi, is the camera working on ANY of these ROMs?
Tried Virtuous Quattro RC3 last week and I had to go back to CM7.2_RC3.. The camera does'nt work well, images get corrupted and there is no autofocus.
Also, the occasional graphics glitch when accessing Google Play.
I upgraded from CM7.2 RC1 to RC3 by just wiping the Dalvik Cache, would I be able to do the same with CM9 Beta?
Thanks!
Does anyone get an error installing ics of cw9 (iteration) in cwm with an error that states something like this but for i9001.
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "Lenovo/ThinkPadTablet/Indigo:4.0.3/ThinkPadTablet_A400_03/0065_0128_US:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "Lenovo/ThinkPadTablet/Indigo:4.0.3/ThinkPadTablet_A400_03/0065_0128_US:user/release-keys"

Autofocus in video mode (NOT continuous autofocus)

TLDR; version: Are there any apps or ROMs that implements autofocus (not continuous) for the Nexus S video mode?
Long version:
I was quite shocked when I realized that there is no way to autofocus before starting to record video in the stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM. I'm not talking about any fancy continuous autofocus here. You know, just the one that makes the video not come out all blurry. If I record things that are at a distance (I bet focus is locked on infinity), it's quite fine. But everything closer than 2 meters comes out all borked.
I can not understand the reason that it's not there. It should be dead simple to implement. I mean, prefocusing before taking a picture is there in the still camera.
Also (but this isn't quite as critical), the sensitivity seems more or less capped in video mode. Ones it goes below a certain light level (which isn't quite low) everything is just dark, the auto exposure stops compensating.
Not only this. When in video mode, before starting to record, the exposure can look OK. But, when pushing the record button exposure is set back at least -1 EV.
I couldn't care less about the "low" resolution of the camera, but at least Google (or anybody else) could fix these things that should really just be a matter of (simple) software tweaks.
My question is: are there any ROMs (or even better, applications) that fixes at least the lack of autofocus?

Brightness bug and camera 3D bug in ICS

Well as you may know the automatic brightness does not work properly under bright sunlight.
And the 3D camera does not take the pictures in the resolution set (check file size) if you access to the camera by the 3D application icon. (If you change from 2D to 3D it does work correctly.)
So I am open this thread to let you know about this, hopefully some developer give us any solution.

same thing happen to me.. my auto brightness censor is not working. Also my 3d cam have problem. But i can still take shots in 3d.

For the brightness, I had the problem for a long time because I was dimming the screen to the minimal possible: but when i once held the brightness button I found out automatic brightness was on at the same time!
So automatic brightness on and yourself dimming the screen at the same time must go wrong.
Have you checked that already?
guys may i ask this question here..images after ics always seem out of focus,or at least 90% of the time (digged through settings, tried different camera apps, still nothing)
and some says the 3D pictures not at the same altitude in ics, making the user dizzy , but it was fine in GB, so they have to stuffed two systems both GB and ICS in it.
luckily my P920 works fine in 3D picture shooting.
I have taken 20 pictures in 3D over a period of a month since upgrading to ICS They all display OK but the resolution is 320 x 240. The phone has been re-booted several times, the battery changed in this period so it is not a settings malfunction. This is not a size listed in the settings menu and is really useless except for viewing on the phone screen. I don't know how this setting happened but just tried taking a 3D photo by using the 3D camera app icon as I had before and it took a full size picture 2048 x 1536 as set in the menu [default]. I seem to remember that a camera bug affects the camera when the battery is low, but my battery was at a good level for all the pictures taken and 3D and 2D videos worked fine. From now on I will check the file size after every photo taken to make sure no more are useless.
I just noticed this myself.
The Thrill 4G forum noticed it, too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50990556
I'm trying to reproduce it manually, but not getting much luck.
Stock AT&T ICS Rooted and a ton of stuff deleted. I've completely wiped and reformatted different ROMs since then, though.
I think, somehow, that Dropbox is the culprit. I want to blame that, or some kind of auto-sync...
Edit:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/android-applications/11496-dropbox-sugarsync-referrals-here-2.html
I think I'm right. I've seen other reports of this.
