Is there an app that can save texts? - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

With all of this ROM flashing, just wondering if anyone has come across an app that can save texts from one ROM, and load it onto another? I know it seems ridiculous, but its kind of annoying to have to reflash an updated ROM (when it says wipe and flash), and lose all of your texts. Some of the text messages have important info. Just wondering if anyone has come across something like this....

There is like 100 on the market..
search sms backup and 3 are on the top

has anyone found an app to backup farts for easy transfer from rom to rom?
check out txtarchive sms backup
stores sms on sd card

Can you load them on to a new rom? How would I back them up on my computer?

After reading through some.. Try "sms backup & restore"

Some of them, like the ones i just posted, save the text to the sdcard. You could move the files to your computer and have a backup.

Yup, just tried it and I'm extremely satisfied. Thanks for the reco guys.

I like SMS B & R, but for some reason I can never view the backup file on my computer in a readable format, even though it says it can do xml in browsers. The only thing it can do is backup and restore on the phone.

SMS Backup
I've always liked SMS Backup. It may not be able to restore your text messages onto your phone, but it will back up all your messages to your gmail account, allowing you to browse through them at your leisure. Beyond that, if you enable the automatic backup feature, as soon as you send or receive an sms it will automatically push it into your gmail for you. If you don't want to clutter up your inbox, it can put them all into a separate sms folder, and mark them as read as well. Just my two cents.

When I first got the Hero, I looked into making a symlink to the SDcard for the SMS Database. I never really got very far with it - primarily just to lazy to edit the Apps2SD script to include it.
Maybe TrevE would think about looking into moving SMS to the SDcard???
This would be the ultimate solution, assuming that the ROMs you are switching between don't require an EXT wipe and will all use the same A2SD version.
Seems like most of the SMS backup apps I have found don't restore at all or don't restore well to the native SMS app.

I really like "sms backup by christopher studer"
It's free, and backs up seamlessly to my gmail account.

Here ya go took me all of five secs to find it

Is it possible to move SMS messages from one Android phone to another?

Let's say that I have a Google Nexus S and I accumulate a bunch of SMS messages. Over time, I switch to another Android phone like the Motorola Atrix. If I do that, are there any programs that will seamlessly move the SMS messages including the threads over to the new Android phone?

Have you tried this before? Does it really work as intended? Will the SMS time stamps and everything migrate over like as if the SMS messages was sent to the new phone?

Yeah it should. Backup to sd (or internal storage for ns) and just transfer it to the root folder. not that hard
it's extremely easy indeed, sooooo many free apps to do so
Holy thread resurrection.. For the record: Titanium backup - save to XML works pretty good
Fastest method: Nandroid backup -> Copy the whole backup to other phone -> Nandroid Manager -> Restore SMS
yes

How to restore SMS?

Hi I just updated the Aria from FR008 to CM7. I did a Titianium Backup the update. But not nandroid.
After successfully installed CM7 I restore every apps that I had and just realized that all SMS is missing. I tried to push the mmssms.db into the phone but it just won't show up.
There is a solution in my mind: Restore Aria back to FR008, restore all settings via Titanium backup, use a SMS Backup to save the SMS, Restore CM7 and restore SMS via SMS Backup. This would possibly work but it would take 1-2 hrs. Therefore I request if anyone had experience and any better solution?
Thanks in advance.
If you didn't specifically back up your texts and you didn't do a nandroid then they are gone. If you used a SMS backup program then its as simple as using that program to restore the texts. Titanium backs up the app/settings, but I don't think it backs up the actual texts.

It does, but it doesn't do a very good job of restoring them if the roms aren't 100% compatible. I ended up buying mybackup pro or whatever it's called ($6) to migrate my mms/sms from my hero cdma to my aria today. I'd suggest reflashing your FR008 rom, TI Restore, then use mybackup pro or similar.

The same thing happened to me; the thing is some of the HTC SMS dbs have some additional columns the 'stock' gingerbread does not have; Titanium did backup and restore your db file, but the MMSSMS app can't handle/interpret/parse it correctly and ultimately you end up no text messages being displayed.
I did a quick re-structure of the dbs using SQLitebrowser and I got all of my messages to displayed, but had some issues that i didn't care to investigate any further.
My advise is to follow s0be's advice, but this time make sure you create a nandroid back-up first

I suspected as much, but never cared to investigate further. $6 for the backup program was well worth it.
Thanks a lot. Seems I need to do all the FR restore just for the SMS. Sad HTC is not using a standard db system.

[Q] Final few questions hopefully on infuse 4g

Alright i have 2 other threads made but not all my questions were answered and i have a couple more
1) I wanna know how to backup my stuff so its not all lost just in case... Like a good app that at LEAST gets my contacts, sms and perhaps some app data? Only because i have ultimate password manager and it is a pain putting them all in
2) Im having trouble getting the drivers for my phone on my computer... i know i can press install driver in kies to get them but my computer keeps failing at that... what mode does it ahve to be in? Samsung ezupdater, media or mass storage?
3)can i just get a download link so i can install kies mini because i guess that is what i need... Correct me if im wrong
4) the main thing i want from rooting is the under/over clocking thing and i wanna get rid of the sms messages from my call log... Does the infused gingerbread kernel from the thread in the link below help me get that or do i ahve to find a rom first?if so what is a good rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248
5)Any help is much appreciated... thanks a bunch
Download the drivers from Samsungs web site.
Contacts - open contacts, tap menu, tap export. If you have an external micro card save them to that.
Once rooted, use Titanium Backup to back up your apps & app data.
Not sure how to save sms messages.
Overclocking can make your phone unstable.
I like Infused 2.1.0. Very stable and gets rid of the sms in the log.
Cranky...

Try SMS Backup and Restore for free in the market. Works like a champ
Contacts - I strongly recommend syncing contacts to a Google account. If you do that, backup/restore of contacts is seamless and automated.
Apps/app settings - Titanium backup. Don't use it for system apps/settings. Note that you still need to manually copy the TiBu backups from the SD card though.
SMS and Call Logs - There are two apps, SMS Backup and Restore and Call Logs Backup and Restore. Just like TiBu, you'll need to manually copy the backups off of your SD card periodically.

As far as drivers go just download samsung kies on your pc and install it. Then you can uninstall it if you want.
Infused should have some instructions to flash in the op. Just make aure you read through them a couple times before going ahead with it.
And honestly syncing contacts with google never worked for me lol. So i couldnt help you with that one

It doesn't work when i try and install the drivers... It keeps failing... hope my phone isn't screwed. Is the infused gonna work on my canadian infuse 4g on rogers? and ill try the contacts another way... maybe an external sd card... thanks
I would recommend going to the market and searching for "contacts to SIM", it will backup all your contacts to your SIM Card so you can just pop it in if you get a new phone.
Also, Titanium Backup is great for applications (and their data).
For the drivers I'm not sure, I would say uninstall Kies and plug your phone into mass-storage mode, if you're on Windows it should download and install the drivers automatically...
Alright contacts to sim worked perfectly... Titanium says I need to have root access so maybe I will need to copy those pws... And for the driver situation... I'm on windows 7,and when I plug in my phone on mass storage, it comes up with the windows that has like browse files and that stuff, kind like when you put in a dvd, it has play and in all the programs you can play it with... Does this mean I'm all set?

The SIM is very limited in terms of what contact info it can store for each contact. I'd strongly recommend syncing to Google, as it should backup nearly everything.
If you want a "non-cloud" backup, GMail supports exporting contacts in multiple file formats.

I wanted to do that but it doesn't seem to work... the check mark is there to sync them in my gmail app, but it doesn't actually show up on my gmail. i just bought an external sd card so i guess that'll do...now one more thing... Like what i am thinking has to be done, correct me if im wrong, i would root the device with taht, then that allows me to use the rom, im thinking in the rom downloader?

SMS Backup+ does not restore my old text messages

I've been trying to restore my old text messages to my M8.

Try changing it to the default messaging app before restoring. When I used my SMS backup app it told me it has to be default for it to restore the messages. After its done you can go back and change back to whatever messaging app you were using. You can find the option to change apps in settings then more towards the top where the WiFi and Bluetooth selections are.
I use Hangouts as my SMS client and restoring via TiBu does restore my texts.
Hancent has a backup built in but it saves them as xml files I believe.
Never determined how to backup GO SMS.
For me, I want to use TiBu to restore all my texts and have now gotten use to the interface.
YMMV

SMS Backup and restore has been working flawlessly for me from the thunderbolt to
DNA to the M8. Great program and even can upload/backup to Dropbox or Google drive.
If you have your old phone prior to the M8..I'd extract those old texts you want on it..then use another program to back them up on the older phone..then get that new program on the M8 and extract the text backup

I think you are using a different program than I do. Mine is SMS Backup and Restore by Ritesh Sahu....I think yours is SMS Backup+ by Jan Berkel?
So if you have your old phone still, I'd restore all the texts on it (I am assuming that would still work)...install the program I use...back it up and upload the backup file to dropbox or google drive.
Then on your M8, install the program I use and then bring down that backup file from Google Drive (or Dropbox) and get all of your old texts on the M8

Hope it works! And as previously stated...to restore messages in Kit Kat..
SMS Backup and Restore will prompt you telling you it needs to be the default messaging app. Allow that and then you can restore....then go back into your settings and change the default messaging app to whatever you use for texting...probably the stock messaging app I presume.

Moving SMS from one app to another?

I have a lot of SMS that I have from running CM12 with the bundled SMS/MMS app, but now I want to use another rom and that thing comes with the google Messenger app. So does anyone know how to tranfser sms from one app to another, I can get the .db file from SMS/MMS but I don't know how I should go about importing it to messenger. Also I tried titanium backup but trying to restore the App + data just says restore and it never finishes restoring.
I've tried a google search, but there isn't very much to find. I guess people aren't as sentimental as I

The TiBu restore takes quite a long time. You need to set TiBu as your Messaging app (it should ask you to do this), otherwise you will keep getting pop-ups.
There is also an app called SMS Backup & Restore, which I have used several times to copy SMS/MMS from phone to phone.

Apps themselfs has nothing to do with SMS/MMS storage. They just read them and show them up to you. If you are using TB, then backup in xml format, because if you do in regullary way you will have some force closes. Or you just use SMS Backup and Restore app from Play store.
EDIT: If you restore app + data you won't get your SMS back, because they are store somewhere else. Actually, when you restore an app, you will get just the app itself and settings off it. Also TB can't restore system app yet in Lollipop.

SMS Backup and Restore did not do MMS (group/picture messages) the last time I looked. TiBu does this nicely, MMS too, though it does take a long time as others stated above.
SMS Backup & Restore does MMS messages if you check that option in the settings.
