I have read every article on both here and Google searches and have yet to solve my problem. I have just switched to Ubuntu. I wanted to know if someone could give me a guide to tether my cdma hero on ubuntu via usb.
thanks on advance,
Tee Jay

Its pretty simple, you enable usb tethering on your phone, then plug it in lol
I am running the latest fresh Rom, when you say enable, do you lean when I plug in the usb, the options it gives, such as "charge only" and so on?

I think so, I don't know if usb tether works on fresh or not
EDIT: Ya thats how you would do it, just not sure if it works on the rom
won't work at all if you have PRI 1.70_003.
With Flipz fresh 2.0d you can't tell what your PRI is supposed to be.

RPI shouldn't matter, and with fresh you use the 2.something one
Never mind. abcdgv says its like 1.7
Flipz has the PRI set to automagically be 1.70.

So what is the verdict, on 2.0d Fresh, can I usb tether with ubuntu, or no?
Thanks guys,

You can use tetherbot. The only problem is that its not a full network connection it uses socks proxy so basically you just set up firefox or what ever your using to use that proxy and port.
authors website http://graha.ms/androidproxy/
some guys blog with a good tutorial http://www.kevinandamanda.com/whatsnew/beginners-guide-to-tetherbot-photo-tutorial
there is also a wired tether app similar to wireless tether but i haven't had any luck with it.

Thanks Zen, I'll give that a shot. Wired tether. did not work for me either.
Thanx,
Tee Jay

I'm using DamageControl v2.07.2 and android-wifi-tether v1.6 and it works great. The one thing that tripped me up and I couldn't find an answer for for a long time was that I had to leave USB Debugging on. Once I did that, it fired up just fine and works like a charm.
wondering if you have found anything out in regards to tethering your hero with ubuntu... im having the same issue...

I have a question. I rooted my phone a couple days ago and downloaded wireless tethering. It said requires netfliter enabled kernel and wont let me use it. But today when i turned on tethering it worked! Wondering why it worked?? I didnt do anything to my phone O_O

Which tethering app did you download? Wireless tether for root? I believe there is an "advanced" setting you can enable if the phone allows kernel support. It may be that it tried to enable this when you started the app. I think I remember seeing something similar last time o used tethering. As long as the app works now I wouldnt worry about it.

I guess its a good thing. But i just was just surprised the app would suddenly work. But i see ur point

Has anybody gotten wifi tethering to work right? I've tried the built-in one along with Wireless Tether for Root users and Barnacle Tether. Nothing works. They all seem to but nothing happens and I can't see the network.

I use PDAnet and it works flawlessly. I think you're probably having issues with the driver? I tried using the stock one as well and had no luck, once I downloaded the PDAnet server client it also installed the correct drivers (for windows 7)
No problems with wireless tether for root. Superclean rom with voodoo kernel...

Well I use Easytether for USB tethering, I have both and easytether is faster, you should try it. my question was about wireless tethering because I needed to do some debug on an iPad and didn't have wifi.
It started working right after I posted this thread though lol idk what was wrong before. thanks guys.

Sorry, I must have been tired when I posted because I didn't read very well
Anyone got this working? I tried on my ubuntu netbook and it didn't work. Anybody got solutions?

What kind of connection were you using? WiFi should be very straight forward and works well for me in Arch, not Ubuntu though. Haven't tried bluetooth/USB yet.

I am trying to get my 3G connection on my netbook using my nexus s. Is it possible? Or is the 3G tethering for windows/mac only?

Worked fine on my Sammy i9000.... setup teethering, run ifconfig and u will see another Ethernet number eg eth1 or wlan1. Just select that network in your network manager and good to go

There will be a 'usb0' device when you are using USB tethering and networkmanager should recognize it automatically.
I just tried on mine to see if it would work, connected my phone's usb cable to the computer, went in settings/wireless/usb tethering and checked in usb tethering....works great, nothing more to it then that. Using Ubuntu 10.10
I can't even get Ubuntu to detect my nexus s. How?
There's a thread (Stickie) in the General section telling you how to unlock bootloader and root on Ubuntu, it'll also tell you how to install the drivers for your computer to detect your Nexus S.
Here's a link to it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883032
I was wondering If it was possible to use the g2x as a wifi adapter. What I would like to do is maybe have a App that allows you to connect to your home wifi and then share it to your PC through USB connection.
You mean like usb tether? Done
NVIDIA NEVER AGAIN!

If only it was that simple. In a sense yes that's what I'm talking about. But I'm not trying to share my 4g connection. I want to use it to share the internet from my "home wifi router" the wireless adapter in my PC went out and I don't really have the money to spend for a new one this close to x-mas.

I'll sell you a USB one I used to use with my TiVo for $10 (b/g I believe), just PM me.
Turn data off to make sure its not using your 4G connection, then just tether it connected to wifi and it should work. I've done it before numerous times.

That sounds like a decent solution. Haven't thought about that, do you have a recommendation on a good tether App that doesn't need a whole bunch of UN necessary work.

Settings app perhaps? USB tethering is just above wifi tether. I've done this many times.

tahahawa is right it is built in to the android software you dont need anything extra. All you need to do is connect to wifi like normal whatever network you want to use then shut off your data connection if you want to be safe but it is not nessesary. Then connect to the pc via USB and check the tethering box in settings and then you are done. No need for any other apps or anything else.
try out pdanet its a pretty usefull app theres a pc client u need to install and congifure as well but its really easy...probably best app out there for this...also not sure if u r running the miui.us rom or not but it has a built in tethering client
Its built in to our G2x's. Just make sure you have the LG drivers installed on your computer and then check USB tethering in Settings and everything should be golden!

I don't know what the deal is with the stock App but it just doesn't want to work with my computer. Wifi hot spot works fine but the USB tether wont. I have all the drivers for the phone as far as I know. Had to instal a bunch when I rooted the phone.

Thanks a lot that App did the trick and I like the built in text feature on the PC client.
how do I use the native WiFi tether to my blu-ray? On my EVO it works fine but on the ns the blu-ray tells me its connected to router but not to the internet. I'm also rooted on cdma vrsion useing vhgomezs I.c.s. Rom. Any help is appreciated.
Edit: persistence pays off. I just kept trying and it worked. Go ahead delete.
