Hey folks. Was wondering if one of you metamorph wiz's could work this. When I get a Google talk message I'd love to see the attached icon (albeit smaller) in the top notification bar instead of the stock icon. The stock is super boring. I'm using a black bar mod if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance!
here's the morph

Ya, I saw that. I wanted something for the notification bar. Not the app icon.
Here is the icon in the stock blue color, if anyone is interested.
If you've already applied the morph above, just use a file manager app to find the Android Themes folder on your sd, find the gtalk_stat_icon morph, and replace the .png file in the correct folder with this one. Apply the existing theme with Metamorph.
Hey guys, I am pretty new to all of this, currently running Damages 2.07 ROM. Love it a lot. But I was wondering if there is anyway to get the Messaging icon changed. I love the Messaging icon on the Droid, its the little green android, but it is a "comment" bubble. Kind of looks like the Chomp SMS icon, but not exactly. Anyway, I was wondering if there was anyway to get that App icon, instead of the normal messaging icon that comes with 2.1
Let me see if i can't find one for you
bettercut lets you customize icons and the text below them and much more
In the market, get
BetterCut
Android 2.0 icon set
With those you can theme your icons.

[Theme] willverduzco's PURE Blackbar for CM 6.1.1 *XML Color Import!* - Now with "4G"
[About]
My goal with this was to create a bar that is PURE BLACK, unlike the gradient bar in HTC Sense, while retaining much of Sense UI's style. As such, this MORPH is heavily based on the HTC Desire Notification Bar. To my eyes, the Sense UI gradient is simply too close to black to look intentional, yet not close enough to look good. It sort of reminds me of an LCD with a back-light leakage problem. Additionally, I created a new, more streamlined notification drawer pull-down image.
This theme has THREE versions: A version with white notifications (classic edition), a version with black notifications (zip file ending with _BN), and a "Faux G" version with black notifications (zip file ending with _BN-4G).
This MORPH is intended for CyanogenMod 6 and beyond. However, it should work with almost every other HDPI ROM, assuming that you have a way to change the status bar and notification text color to white.
[Screenshots - Click to Enlarge]
"Faux G" - Black Ongoing Notifications (_BN-4G version, which I currently use)
Black Ongoing Notifications (_BN version)
White Ongoing Notifications (classic)
[Installation Instructions]
1. Download and install the latest version of MetaMorph (by Stericson) from the Market.
2. Turn on USB Debugging under the Android Settings -> Applications -> Development Menu.
3. Open MetaMorph and select "Unzip/Extract New Theme."
4. Select the appropriate version of my theme, click "Apply All," and reboot when prompted.
5. Change your carrier, clock, date, and notifications colors. (See below for instructions.)
[Changing Text Color Automatically - BN and BN-4G only for now]
-CM6.1 and beyond: Unzip Notifications_XML-FOR_CM6.1.zip and put the CMTheme folder on the root of your SDCard. Import the colors through the following: Android Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> User Interface -> Tweaks Extra -> Select A Theme
-CM6: Unzip Notifications_XML-FOR_BN.zip and put cmparts_ui.xml on the root of your SDCard. Import the colors through the following: Android Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> User Interface -> Tweaks Extra -> Import Colors from XML
[Changing the Text Color Manually - All ROMs]
BLACK ongoing notifications bar version
1. Navigate to Android Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> User Interface -> Status Bar Customization.
2. Change the following fields to white (#ffffffff): Battery Percentage, Clock, Carrier PLMN Label, Carrier SPN Label, Notifications Ticker, Notifications Count, Items Title Color, Items Text Color, and Items Time Color.
3. Change the following to black (#ff000000): No Notifications Title, Clear Notification Label, Ongoing Notifications Title, Latest Notifications Title.
WHITE ongoing notifications bar version
1. Navigate to Android Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> User Interface -> Status Bar Customization.
2. Change the following fields to white (#ffffffff): Battery Percentage, Clock, Carrier PLMN Label, Carrier SPN Label, Notifications Ticker, Notifications Count, No Notifications Title, Ongoing Notifications Title, Latest Notifications Title.
3. Change the following to black (#ff000000): Clear Notification Label, Items Title Color, Items Text Color, and Items Time Color.
[Changelog]
Classic (White Notifications) Edition
-None
Black Notifications Edition
1.2 - Discovered when looking in low light that the PNG incorporated in v1.1 wasn't truly 100% black. I replaced the PNG with a new one with RGB values of 0,0,0.
1.1 - Incorporated Eddiemc's changes for dark Notification Panels.
[Known Issues]
Classic (White Notifications) Edition
-None
Black Notifications Edition
-A very small percentage of applications employ their own methods of coloring their ongoing notification text. This cannot be changed with something like Cyanogenmod settings. This is no longer a bit issue because CM6 RC3 and beyond include a version of MusicMod that uses the system-wide notification text color.
[Future]
Classic (White Notifications) Edition
-None. This seems complete unless someone wants different icons.
Black Notifications Edition
-Look for a way to force all notification text to be white, even for troublesome apps.
[Troubleshooting]
-Morph stuck at "Applying" indefinitely? Make sure USB Debugging is enabled.
-Morph only applied to part of the bar and looks bad? Make sure you have custom notification and pulldown bars disabled. (CyanogenMod Settings -> User Interface -> Notification Colors and disable Custom Notification and Pulldown bars.) Also, if you're on CM 6.1+, go to CyanogenMod Settings -> User Interface -> Tweaks Extras -> Select a Theme and pick Stock. Reboot then reapply the theme.
-The latest version of MetaMorph works again. If you have issues applying the theme, and you have already made sure USB debugging was enabled, try the version of MetaMorph that I have uploaded as an attachment.

Credit: Thank you very much XebozZ for creating a wonderful base from which I created this Morph, Eddiemc for helping make the first _BN version, and obviously Cyanogen for pumping out CM6 RC!
Applied and it works great! Thanks man!
This is awesome, 5 stars. Thanks man. Pure black >>>> Desire grey IMO, and is great for showing off the great black levels of the AMOLED. I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. I've tried myself and failed.
It would also be cool if the pulldown notifiations are also black/dark with white font, I guess with the standard colors inverted. I think it's tricky it needs to be configured on an app level (I think, but am not sure). Anyways, if there's a toggle between standard/inverse color, that would also kick much ass.
Can you make an enomther version please?

I'll gladly see what I can do, but unfortunately I'm actually unfamiliar with Enomther's ROMs. Could you please tell me if his ROM has a settings panel inside his ROM, in which you can enter the aRGB values for notification colors (or does his ROM let you import SpareParts XML files like CyanogenMod does)? If so, this MORPH should work with minimal or no changes. If it doesn't have that option, I'm going to have to find out a way to change the text colors first.

Nope, as easy as walking, on cm6
Swap "status_bar_item_background_normal.9.png" in framework res to one that's black instead of white, and change text to white in CM settings.
Works on all app notifications, I'm using it myself. Black's nicer than white!

edit... throw the png file into the framework res folder of the original morph, or just use the modified version attached (hope the op doesn't mind..)
Then change item notifications color in cm settings to white (#ffffffff)

Can anyone verify the white text on black bars works on the Music app and Quick Settings? I've tried various morphs a few months ago and these apps leave black text in the Notifications panel no matter what, but that was before the Spare Parts method in Cyan 508-600RC.

First issue found... I've added it into the main post. Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately, the spare parts method doesn't seem to change the music player text. A decent alternative would be to use the classic version with the black text and white ongoing notifications menu, as the text would appear as normal. I believe that these apps must be using some code on a per-app level that does this, as there simply isn't another field that I could see modified. This reason why they did this is likely because it has two slightly different colors (a black and a grey) in that notification.
Hopefully someone knows how to change the music player's text in the notification bar.
Here is a picture of the issue:
EDIT: Looks like it's true. It's probably part of the app itself.
In all honesty, though, this is a very minor issue, and if you don't know what song you're playing through the media player from your own music library, there may be another problem, haha. That said, I will see if anyone has come up with a real solution. I don't want to tell you to hold your phone a different way, haha. Oh wait, that's another company.
Awesome notification bar!
I'd like the gradient on the notification bar itself, with a gradient on the pull down notification. I somehow managed to mix this Metamorph, with another and got what I wanted (by mistake!).
If it's not too much trouble, could I get a .zip file (exactly like the you uploaded) but with a gradient (like the desired) notification bar?
looks good ima trying it out now what i been looking for

Notifications on black:
Yea, I just noticed this just now. As op states above, music app doesn't work properly.
I'm using spotify, so I never checked the music app... (btw spotify get white text as it should)
Quick Settings actually has an embedded option to change the text color (normal: white, inverted: black) so so that's no problem
All other apps I've seen works well (gets white text).
On cm6 we are all using the modded music app by Eliot Stocker, so I reckon he should be able to add an option to invert text (like quicksettings) if some of us asks him.

For the more hardcore ones, adb pull the music app, change the xml settings for notification color in Music.apk\res\layout\statusbar.xml (this is beyond me atm, but I might give it a stab) adb push the app back, and voila you'll have white text
edit3...
I pass.
Here are the files if someone can pull this off. As far as I know, due to the way android works, the xml file needs to be hex edited.. I just cannot work out where the changes needs to be
edit4...
Even though I don't use the music app, this issue really bugs me..
If we can get the xml file changed, it can even be included in the morph (or as a seperate morph) so nobody has to adb.
I just posted in eliots thread about the settings option, so perhaps that works out, if not I'll ask his permission to pm around a bit to find someone who can edit the xml.
Now I'll stop editing this post
Is it possible to have an update.zip version of the Black Ongoing Notifications (new _BN version) please.
Don't like to isntall metamorph to install theme.

Thanks.

Wow, good job. I don't use CM myself but I know a lot of people will appreciate this.
Just a quick status update to let everyone know that the issue will be fixed soon.
Eliot Stocker, who wrote the music app in CM6 just got back to me saying that he would add the feature into the next release. Thanks for the twitter link Eddiemc, and thank you again for all of your help!

I've installed/customized a theme exactly as I want with Black status bar, and black pulldown background with white text. I properly Deodexed and used the compatible services.jar, however, the following events still show up with black text in the dropdown list:
-In-Call timer status
-Download Progress
-Any item that is an event in progress
I've tried 4 different services.jar and all of them had the same problem, I tried editing the status bar XML files, only to have the phone refuse to load.
I notice 90% of themes leave the dropdown tabs gray, and I assume this is the reason, but does anyone have the files necessary to make all text in the dropdown white?
If you want to attach your framework-res.apk I can give this a go. I'm pretty sure this is in the /res/layout/status_bar_latest_notification.xml file or something titled similiarly.
Anyways.... I can give you some help if wanted...
I've attached my framework-res.apk, let me know what you can do. Thank You!

In looking at your framework...is this the current framework that you thought SHOULD have the white text? Or a unmodified framework. In looking at it...it looks like the text should be white... At least from what theming I have done... You have white (ffffff) set in the correct places for the dropdown notification bar in /res/layout/status_bar_latest_event_content.
What ROM/theme are you using? Also are you on the 2.3.34 update? i'm still on 2.3.15... So I don't want to throw a framework on my phone that may cause issues =?
If you can give me some more info... I was digging through it tonight.
Thanks
I am using the 2.3.340 firmware, standard rom but rooted and deodexed.
I used that exact framework with 2.3.15 with the same issue. My theme is nearly perfect except for that, so it's kind of annoying.
Hm... I'll keep looking over it. So this current framework SHOULD have white text but didn't?
Try also looking at the styles.xml and colors.xml in the /res/layout folder. I.m winning if things need to match up and something in one of those files is overwriting your white color

I'm pretty sure it just controls color for the clock, ticker, and the "titles" for the sections in the drop-down such as "latest" or "ongoing". It doesn't actually change the text color of notifications in the drop down.
Can u help me too
I had this issue with derezzed too, a lot of ongoing event text colors are controlled by each individual application (something I saw with dropbox and facebook uploads) so the options are to either customize each application as you get it, ignore the unreadable text, or simply change the .png to a different color that provides a similar feel while being able to read black text... or another artsy thing would be to use rounded corners to make each notification look like an individual bubble instead of a continuous pane
edit:
totally didnt see how old this post was... oops
Hi!
I further AOSP themed the Mods from Shaftenberg (all credits to him) to my needs and put them in together in one CWM flashable zip.
Only flash, when you are on Jelly Bean 4.1.2!
Do a Nandroid backup before flashing (or backup contacts.apk, phone.apk, messaging.apk and the corresponding .odex files if you are on a odexed rom), just in case you want to revert later.
What I did:
- Exchanged all remaining Moto icons with original or adapted CM10 AOSP icons - quite a lot.
- Boosted the contrast of the dark and light AOSP faces a little. Dark faces are displayed in (dark) Phone and Messaging. Light faces in Contacts.
- Adjusted some text, background and highlight colors.
- Changed the emoticons in Messaging to their CM10 counterparts (green androids).
- Darkened the very bright green Mailbox icon.
If someone still finds some ugly Moto icons, please post a screenshot.
These are all themed original Motorola APKs - so you won't get any side effects. Everything works as reliable as stock.
Brazilian users need to use the special braziian version.
Tools used for my modding activities:
- Virtuous Ten Studio
- ImageMagick (command line image manipulation)
- win-bash (UNIX Bash Shell for Windows)
- Greenfish Icon Editor Pro
- WinMerge
- Notepad++
- my brain
Changelog:
v1.1: Made the text in the thread selection screen of Messaging.apk brighter for better readability
v1.1.1: Recompiled APKs with the signature keys from the original files (they didn't work in some setups before). Corrected updater-script.
v1.2: Exchanged some more icons in Messaging.apk: Outgoing message face (only visible if you don't have a picture of yourself in Contacts), group icon.
v1.3: Background of unread messages in thread list is now colored in visible dark holo blue. Text color of outgoing messages is now standard holo light blue (#33b5e5). Exchanged emoticons to higher resolution versions.
v1.3_grey: In- and outgoing SMS/MMS messages in dark grey "message bubbles". (a little darker than shaftenberg's grey version, and without the grey background of the text input area). Text colour of outgoing messages white.
v1.4_grey: Edited the green smileys. Two of them were blurred, smaller and in a slighty different colour. These are now perfectly matched to the others. Smileys in text are displayed a little larger. Exchanged some more icons to AOSP/CM icons (messaging icon in notfication area and in Contacts, small grey faces on contact photos).
v1.5_grey: Edited the above mentioned smileys again. They had a little offset and I shifted them in the right position. Exchanged the messaging icon on the incoming call screen and ajusted the ring colour when locked on the messaging icon.
v1.6_grey: Exchanged some more icons I had overseen. Incl. send message icon in the missed call dialog on the notification list, and some other icons that I haven't seen in the running program yet (e.g. the high priority message icon on the notification bar, for which I had to make an own icon cause it has no correspondent on CM10)
v1.6.1_grey: Corrected the brightness of the voice search icon on the dialpad to match the other buttons on the dialpad.
v1.7: Changed green phone receiver symbols to grey AOSP version except the one on the dialer. trash symbol on "long press" symbol bar was darker than the other symbols, corrected that. Changed all icons on these long press menus to AOSP versions. Changed the order of icons on this menu on recent calls list to resemble the icon order on the corresponding menu in contacts. Changed some icons in messaging to AOSP version (new message, phone receiver, attachment clip, made a AOSP style foward message symbol as there is none in cm10)
v1.7.1: Changed the "angry" text emoticon because Moto used a completely wrong one.
v1.8: Now with extended set of AOSP smileys (6 more). Rearranged the smiley order. Changed some of the corresponding text emoticons to more common ones. Extended the emoticon parser with a lot of synonym emoticons.
v.1.8_darkContacts: I finally did it! And it was a lot of hard work to do all the necessary editing and find out all the switches in the XML files. Even had to change some values in the smali files. Now with hopefully perfectly "Holo dark" themed Contacts.apk. Please post screenshots if you find something not matching the dark holo theme.
v1.8.1: Some minor corrections. Reworked favorites star symbols (intensity, color, edges). Now holo blue instead of yellow in dark Contacts version. Search icon on Phone now has the same brightness as on Contacts, corrected the voice search icon on the dialpad to have the same brightness too.
v1.8.2: I finally found the reason for the white background on contact detail view in landscape view. It was a completely unnecessary background color definition very well hidden in the xml files. Simply a bug by the Moto coders. Removed it and now the background resembles the actual theme in both versions. Found some invisible icons in dark Contacts, corrected that. Did some minor color corrections in Messaging.
v.1.8.3_darkContacts: Found some light grey faces in group members editing screen. Changed them to dark version.
Screenshots are always appreciated, but that sounds nice. Specifically the green androids emoticons :highfive:

If you want to install without cwm then use Root Explorer or any other root capable file explore, extract the zip, copy the apks to /system/app change permissions to -rw-r--- delete the corresponding .odex files if they still exist and reboot.
Backup the original apks and .odex files before you do this (or rename them to .apk.old and .odex.old) if you want the possibilty to revert.

I never had any problems. But to evaluate your problem I reverted to stock, installed my zip and as you said Phone and Contacts are not working.
I investigated a little and it was a problem with the signature of the apks. I recompiled with the original signature from the stock files and now everything is confirmed to be working.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Works perfect! thanks and good job!
It works fine on armans infiniROM :good:
I love the CM-emoticons on sms.
What I noticed right now, that the sms-limit is up to 9.998 instead of the stock-maximum of 1.000
Is this your work or is this in armans ROM? I couldnt find any answer in your changelog or in the changelog of infiniROM

A version with dark grey "message bubbles" and white outgoing text on the SMS app is now available.
It's very similar to shaftenberg's grey version, but with a little darker grey shades and no other grey backgrounds.
