Hi
I bought a Kingston 8GB SDHC Class 4 card today, I used a Class 2 before, anyway, I copied a lot of music (about 4GB) to the card from the computer but I don't even get close to 4MB/s only 1.38MB/s, have I done something wrong or is it a problem with the card?
thanks
If you're copying file to your phone over usb it will be capped at 2MB/s. It's the phone's fault, not your card. I bought a 16gb class 6 without knowing this and now I have to take my memory card out if I want to take advantage of the write speeds.

You may have been scammed. To know for sure, you should run the h2testw program against the new card. It's quite common for scammers to pass off 2GB cards as 8, 16, or even 32GBs. They can program the card to tell your PC that they are bigger than they actually are.
The h2testw script can test this by writing 8 1GB files (approximately) to your card.
Good luck!

So today i brought a 8gb Transcend Class 6 mico sd card for my raphael. So i went back home and try it then i found it not detected on the file explorer but it says expansion slot in use when i go to Settings>About. Thanks in advance.
[email protected]
Transcend is not recomended by HTC. i am also having same problem with my SD card which is made by Transcend (4GB capacity). it detects when you put it in phone for a longer time, but you can not write/save/copy anything in it. it will say FILE CAN NOT COPY, MAKE SURE THE PHONE IS PROPERLY CONENCTED AND SOURCE FILE IS NOT MOVED BLA....BLA... BLA...
when i checked with HTC team, they advised me to use micro SD from SANDISK.
well the weird thing is when i insert the card on my friends phone(HTC TYTN 2) it detects it instantly after inserting it in. But when i insert it on my phone it doesn't work, btw i also tried another card from my friend, it a sandisk 4gb and it worked. hmm this seems top be a uncommon issue.
I ahve the SAME exact problem with the 8GB Transcend Class 6 Micro SD that I just bought for my phone. I've had no issues at all with the 4GB Transcend Class 6 card that I currently have. On the other hand, I had a 4GB Sandish Class 6 that would not work in my Raphael but would work just fine in my Kaiser.
Appearently the card worked randomly but i can't copy any file to the card for some reason.
look for something called SDformatter by panasonic i had similar troubles with a couple sd cards till i found this program.
they all work now in any phone/device.
Is there any specific setting to set in the program Panasonic formating program? Erase enable or whatever? I had my SD card working for about 2 or 3 days and now its not detected again.
I have similar my 8GB does not get recognized and if does it's only for a matter of minutes then corrupts but my 2GB reads fine, but the 8GB is fine in Kaiser already used the SDformatter to which makes it read till corrupts again within minutes...
Going to try some other cards out in local shop before purchase will take laptop to transfer data while there.

I have read in a lot of post that Transcend 8GB class 6 card have problems to be recognized by Rapahel.
I also have one. On my Kaiser worked well.
With stock rom it wasn't recognized by Raphael; with Energyrom it is recognized, but i used for few minutes, because i feared that something bad could happen..after reading all these post.
I usually use a Kingston 2gb card.
We were unlucky buying these cards...

Yes, I also have a Samsung 8GB class 6 card that my Touch Pro refuses to read. Tried an EnergyROM as I had read that for some reason they were better at reading some cards. But no dice - just bought Sandisk Class 2 and it works perfectly so far
Hello!
I bought Kingston 16gb class 10 micro sdhc card and I tested it on my nexus one getting result 6mb/s and in unbutu getting same results. Both was directly pluged (Not Usb). I closed every running application in nexus one and I got same result. I also tested in different partitions and in ext2 I was getting little slower result than in fat32. But both were same or under 6mb.
Is there something wrong with the card or is it issue with nexus one that android 2.2 doesnt support class 10?

please include where it was purchased, how much, and if there are any serial numbers/stamps on the card. there are known fakes in circulation (even brick and mortor retailers) fyi.
http://www.verkkokauppa.com/popups/prodinfo.php?id=1244 , bought for 101 euros. Serial in the card: SDC10/16GB N0206-001.AD00lF Taiwan.
ANd on adapter reads CHINA
wow thats really slow i have a 16Gb class 4 and i get 7 ~ 8 mb write speeds when the card is in N1 and connected with usb.
I would assume it's the card because as I and someone else stated above, get higher speeds with a lower class card.
As stated here:
It's my understanding that the "Class" simply refers to speed rating and thus should not effect compatibility. As long as the card supports the microSDHC standard and isn't any larger than 32gb it should work. You should also note however that in the past, vendors have claimed a higher class rating when the card did not actual perform that fast. I suggest buying from a trusted vendor with a good name.
32GB SD Card
Anyone tested the 32GB card, I know it's only class 2....
Android Class 10, SDHC3.0 compliant ?

Class 10 should be supported, but they are usually SDHC3.0 card which is new I think...
I have a kingston class 10 as well, same issue, read speed is good but write speed is rated as 2gb, I tried to change the sector size to 4k and still the same.
For those thinking it's a fake card it is not! when I place the card in an adaptor I do 10MB write and close to 16MB read so this is a class 10.
I am not sure if it's the SDC tester app that is wrong or the phone
but since the phone behave fairly well compared to my class 4 card it could be the application. I will do some internal transfer tomorrow to see how fast they go
me too

Hi guys
i recently received my Sandisk Class 4 16gb micro sd card, but im getting pretty slow speeds with it.
Its currently in FAT32 format.
When transferring files from my computer to the card via the usb cable, im getting 3mbps, which is much slower than what ive seen others get with a class 2 sandisk microsd card.
Also when i test the card using 'SD tools' in the app market it says it should have write 5.7, read 10.4, which is not what im getting and still slower than results ive seen others get with class 2 sandisk microsd cards.
I also have an old 2gb Verbatim card (with no class markings), which is currently in FAT format (not FAT32), that came free with an old phone, that seems very quick when transferring files, much quicker, and in SD Tools it gets - write speed 2mbs, read speed 17 mbps.
Questions -
What format should i set the card to maximize performance (not using app2sd)?
Is a smaller capacity card of the same class faster?
(is a class 4 8gb faster than class 4 16 gb?)
Is FAT faster than FAT32?
Is my card defective?
Should i return it for a class 2 as they seem to be faster?
Hope you can help
For starters, which of those 2 file system is really faster don't matter because you cannot use FAT16 on your 16GB card. FAT16 only supports up to 2GB.
Also, class 4 is suppose to be faster than class 2.
sounds like you got a fake Sandisk Class 4 16gb, a knockoff market imitation with low quality component
what is the actual speed test result of the write?

Thanks for the reply allgamer, I've seen many of your posts on these boards and your very helpful
My actual write speeds are 3mbps, when transferring from my pc to the phone via usb cable.
I got the card from play.com so I didn't expect it to be fake. Are there any other tests I could do to confirm its authenticity?
Should I try different file systems like ext2 or fat etc?
3MB/s for a class 2 card is pretty good. I don't what you can expect more from that.
I have an Kingston 16Gb Class 4 and the writing speed from pc -> phone is like 2MB/s, much slower then it should. But in SD Tools its shows 4 or 4.8 MB/s writing speed.

The card I got is a class 4, and being a san disk I expected better write speeds.
What is really confusing is why the 2gb card (with no class markings) I got free with an old phone is much faster at transferring files via usb despite it getting a much lower score in SD tools.
Can anyone explain that?
Bought a Kingston 16GB SDHC Class 10 card for my Desire a while ago, and found out it is not a happy match. Simply too unreliable. Went back to the good ol' trusted Transcend 8GB SDHC Class 6 card.
Anyone got any experience with the Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 10 card on the Desire?
Hi,
I have a Kignston µSDHC 16Go class 10 and I'm very happy with it. What do you mean with "unreliable ?"
My device was becoming noticably slower with this card instead of faster, and I got read errors continuously in apps like media players, Astro File Explorer en Root Explorer. Possibly it was becoming slower because of the read errors.
A chkdisk on Windows 7 continuously gave errors and a chkdsk on EXT4 Recovery sometimes was even unable to fix errors on it.
Reformatting only helped for a short while, then the read errors would reoccur.
So I finally gave up on it and trashed it.
I read everywhere that the Desire is very picky when it comes to memory cards.
Well, it seems like your kingston card was dead, it shouldn't give any error on a chkdsk.
Did you know you can get it exchanged from Kingston under warranty ? It has a lifetime warranty. I had to do it for mine because the first one I had was defective from the beginning, I couldn't format it at all.
Trust me, I have this card and it works flawlessly since I got it exchanged !

I did exchange it already, the 1st one truly was crap, far worse than the 2nd one, the 2nd one was slightly better but still crap. So I decided to ditch Kingston altogether.
Lexar cards
I've had good luck with a lexar class 10 32gb cards. No one I know has any transcend cards though.
I can't use Transcend micro SDHC 16 GB class 4- I had to pull the battery almost always after using an app that accessed SD (camera, gallery, music player etc)
I've found that samsung has been a dream with good speeds and no issues (as of yet...). As for the Kingston i got a class 4 card and that worked fine for me.

Ooh nice! Thanks, will buy one now.
Transcend 32GB SDHC Class 10 card on my Desire for 2 weeks, feel fine.
Got the card. Works flawlesly. Also increased the SD card read cache to 2048kB, I get a write speed of 11+MB/sec, read speed of 25+MB/sec now. Nice
I bought this for my phone, and it is not working Lexar 32GB Mobile Micro SDHC Card- Class 10
I don't know what cards would be compatible with this phone, but in the past I've found that formatting a card on my PC has sorted non-working ones out on my phone. Have you tried that?
Yes i've tried formatting it in all possible formats.
sandisk worked
The sandisk one worked for us:

known bug - microSD not working
According to several Nokia.com discussion threads, this is a known bug with the 820. The card might work for a few minutes, but soon goes corrupt. The card can be re-formatted OK in a PC, and phone will recognise it again (but only for a few minutes). If you've changed the settings to store photos etc on the card, the camera will also stop working when the card goes corrupt (because it can't store the pics anywhere).
Apparently a patch is due one day to fix this...

I can confirm this through experience. Pretty bad issue since the phone only has 8GB of internal storage.
I have tried the following cards and have had the same exact experience:
Sandisk Ultra 64 Class 10
Kingston 32 Class 6 (I think)
Trancend 16 Class 10
For me, the SanDisk Ultra UHS-1 with 64 GB works fine WHEN I reformatted it on the PC to fat32 with this tool: fat32-format.softonic.de
Before, the phone recognized it, but crashed and I couldn't move files to it. After formatting, no more problems
I have this card here
SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter (SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A)
Worked as soon as it was inserted to the phone and I have several videos and photos on it. 58.X GB formatted capacity. I would not recommend using a card that is NOT listed as compatable with the phone.

TurboTuck, thanks for the info.
Have you loaded the microsd with more than 10Gb? Issues usually occurs when more than this amount is loaded to the card.
...mine is working perfectly with a 16 GB class 4 microSD sandisk card.
Anyone tried a 32Gb class 4 microsd?
Just to throw in my .02.. I reflashed my 820 last night and the SD card is still working fine.. It is an 8 gig class 4 I believe. I have a 16 gig class 10 somewhere that I will need to try.
I'm still holding off on really celebrating, though.
Kingston cards work always for me
16GB class 10 here
I bougth a Sandisk 16Gb class 4 and it´s working perfect.
I already loaded it with 12Gb and has no lag at all.
I have 32Gb class 10 from SanDisk. It works perfectly not in 1308 and former.
