[Tutorial] Facebook Contact Pics (HTC Sense) - General Questions and Answers

Well, as almost EVERYONE that uses HTC Senses' "Link" function knows that you can link your Contacts with your Facebook friends. One issue still remains. The contact pictures. Most of the time, they simply won't apply to the Contact, so you have to set manually.
Here's a little tutorial on how to MANUALLY link your Contacts Pictures with their Facebook Display Picture.
1.) Slide to your Contacts Tab
2.) Select "All People"
3.) Select a Linked Facebook Contact in your list [One without a Display Picture]
4.) Scroll down to "Edit Contact"
5.) Select it.
6.) Once you're in the Edit Contact Card screen, you'll see the Image Placeholder in the top right.
7.) Tap on the Picture and you'll see the following Pop-Up Menu:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note: If their Facebook Picture is still blank, you'll see the Download Arrow next to it.
8.) Once their Facebook Picture appears, simply select it.
9.) It will automatically add their Facebook Pic to their Contact Card Pic [And should update when they change their picture].
10.) You're done!
Hope this helps the peeps who need it!

How to save a other Facebook pic (Profile Album) to my photo contact?

You'll have to manually download the picture you want from the Profile and sync it to your device. Then, follow the steps above, and look at the screenshot I have provided. Rather than tapping the "Facebook Profile" button, tap "Open Album". Doing so will open your Devices Photo Album, and you can select the image you wish to use for the Contact Picture. Hope this helps.

I'd like to know is it possible to save facebook default profile pics as contact picture? Just selecting facebooks image to be shown doesn't save it as a contact image, it just displays it. When doing ms phone sync, image is not uploaded, only the old image that I have manually downloaded and saved is uploaded.

Thanks a lot for this TC! Totally helped my problem.

Glad my tutorial could help.

hmm i dont know, i am so unhappy about this facebook and twitter integration, its to aggressive.
is there anyway from stopping facebook, twitter and so on from overwritting the contact picture?
i love to have my contacts linked to facebook, but i want that the contacts keep the picture i choose, most of the time its phone or google. is there anyway to force the contacts app to do so?

is this still working for you guys? for me it doesn't work anymore, sense can't get the facebook photos. no support from htc or facebook yet.

i have the same problem with mreaglejr about 2 weeks ago.
i have htc mini and can't find solution

@veepee78
hi,
I had/have the same problem. At the moment I am trying out "fonebook" which works great, but is only shareware. But have a try...
Other possibilities are welcome...

took me a while, i found out while trying to put together a nice error report to htc. now that they know more about the problem, they said they will work on it "hard" to get us the https support, similarly to the old twitter fix.

How do I get Dialer One to display my Facebook contacts?

I used the Facebook application, and they're all there in my Contacts app, but in Dialer One it only shows my Google contacts (and it doesn't even show their synced photos). I didn't see any option to show my social network contacts.
same issue.
Necrobump! But really, did anyone ever find an answer for this?
Have you tried going to Menu --> Display options in Dialer One and looking in the "Choose contacts to display" section? You'll have to have sync enabled in the Facebook app first, of course.
The problem is Facebook changed their app so only the stock dialer could show Facebook photos. The only work around that I know of is to install and run an app called photo unlocker. Its free in the market. You must be rooted to use it. Also its buggy so you might have to run it a few times but it works for me. Now any dialer app I install can use Facebook photos. Hope this helps.

I get photos in Dialer One just fine with the official Facebook app. The only issue is that they are low-res and look ugly on the incoming call screen.
Noxious, I see no such option. It's not a matter of photos. The contacts themselves don't show up.

You take your phone and you look it in the face and say " dialer one show me ya moves" then you toss your phone in front of you and swing your fist at it while yelling "FALCON PUNCH". Problem solved, phone now displays FB contacts.
The best solution for this is to use Go Contacts. It has an integrated themeable smart dialer and has way more options than Dialer One. The option you're looking for is included in Go Contacts.
Photo Unlocker does it. Root required, by the way.
Go Contacts doesn't seem to want to do fb contacts either =\
moreover: what I've noticed is, it's only SOME facebook contacts, and not others. There's one call I got from a guy... in the call log it shows as his number, but when i click on the blank contact picture on the left. it shows me his fb profile

Thanks for the replies guys. I've been meaning to say though, there are still some contacts on FB which Go contacts refuses to show =\
Use TouchPal... much better app IMO. All of my Facebook contacts show.

[APP] HD Contacts

I WILL NOT BE CHECKING THIS THREAD POST. IF YOU HAVE ISSUES OR FIND BUGS PLEASE EMAIL ME VIA GOOGLE PLAY'S DEVELOPER EMAIL LINK - THANKS

Changelog:
See Google play store
===========================================
Purpose: The purpose of this application was to fix the infamous bug for ICS devices. The bug that I'm referring to is the one where contacts images downloaded to the device from your G-mail account blurry. This is app stores a copy on cropped images on SD card and then stores a reference. This way when you flash a new ROM or have to reset your phone then you can easily restore these high resolution photos back to contacts quick and painlessly.
THIS IS ONLY A WORKAROUND. THIS DOES NOT COMPLETELY FIX THE KNOWN GOOGLE ISSUE WITH LOW RES CONTACT IMAGES ON RESYNC

Does this provide multiple account sync (Facebook, Skype, etc)?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
This does not interface with facebook or skype. Its purely contacts on just the phone level. You have to have the persons photo the first time you set everything up.
not working
I set an contact picture, i'ts all ok, backup database in hd contacts, remove google account, add google account, sync... low res contact picture.
Enter HD contacts app, restore database, apply picture, nothing changes. Select with long press contacts name in hd contacts app, selecting modify, turns "Curently no contact photo for this contact".
I did something wrong on these steps? pls help
I'm on android ICS 4.0.4.
p.s. sorry for bad english
A lot of manual work for me. I'll think I'll stick with High Resolution Google Contact Photos since it can pull photos from Facebook.
Sent from my Samsung Infuse running AOKP.

It does not fix the problem for Google contacts being blurry on sync. It is more of a workaround. But i have noticed a bug in my app and will be temporarily pulling the app from the market.

[Q] Change Default Camera Preview App

Hi Guys,
For some reason I didn't want the Google+ App, so I removed it with Titanium Backup. Now this also removed the new Google Photos app. However, whenever I capture an image through the default camera, the image preview (slide from right) opens in this app. (See below)

}
Firstly, I'm not sure how it ended up remaining partly in the system. Secondly, when I press the circled icon, the app force exits to the homescreen instead of taking me back to the gallery or camera. Not only that, the photo that is currently being previewed gets deleted. I mean common Google, you can't force me to use an app, if I don't want to!
Having said that, I would like to know if it is possible to change the default preview app from the photos app to the android gallery app? Or if thats not possible, is it possible to install only the G Photos app and not the entire G+ application?
TIA,
Cheers!:good:
Anyone?
I do not have "photos" installed nor google plus. Removed a bunch of google bloat via clean master. When I go into my camera and then slide right it goes into what you have posted the little google photos thing. But I use gallery as my photo app. I have this same deal as you posted it just doesn't bother me.
Download the picasa tool, that is just strictly photos and you can manage them on the cloud.
Hope this helps I will check back if this isn't clear.
I believe this can be resolved by going to your app list, and choosing "Clear Defaults" on Google+.

Can you confirm this, since you have Google plus still installed. It would be much easier for you to check it. Would be really helpful if you could check whether the gallery app can be set as the default previewing app by clearing the Google plus defaults.

I am simply ignoring it because it does not really bother me. I never actually view my photos this way versus just hitting the gallery app and since I have some in the cloud I use the picasa tool. I am pretty sure that once photos are removed gallery becomes default because I remember when looking at a photo in SMS it asked me for photos or gallery.

I thought I would respond to this because after flashing to lollipop this is really annoying me as well. I prefer quikpic but I cannot change the default viewer from the camera. I can verify clearing defaults does not resolve the problem.

Hangouts SMS displays blank user image

Has anyone been able to figure out how to get a profile pic for yourself to show up in the hangouts SMS app for your SMS messages instead of the default unset gray generic picture?

Details:
1. g+ profile pic is set and appears in the top left of notification pulldown
2. have tried changing g+ profile pic from the phone
3. have tried adding my own phone number as a contact in the contacts app with the same g+ pic
4. have tried changing the g+ pic in g+ on PC
5. This is simply an annoyance and SMS functionality still works but why is this not happening to everyone?
6. when tapping the blank user pic this page comes up:
Full URL of error is: https://plus.google.com/_sms_only_account/about/
any ideas? There is a thread about this at AC forums also but nobody has come up with a working solution yet maybe some of you have this working?

Make sure you have set up the "ME" contact in the People app. That is what Hangouts uses for "you".
IIRC you can change your profile picture in Hangouts itself, somewhere in the settings. That should be synced with your G+ account, but you didn't mention trying this in your post.
If that doesn't work I'd try going into Settings > Apps > Hangouts > Clear Data and see if that helps.

yeah that is all setup with a pic and my phone number and link to g+ and everything, might try clearing the hangouts app cache and data and see if that changes anything
well this is dumb.. you MUST be signed in to the hangouts half of it to see your pic in the SMS half.. @[email protected]
when not signed into hangouts even tho i can send myself a SMS and see my pic in the "from" left side lol the "to" right side is still blank
way to half-ass it Google
That's a funny quirk. I will say though, if I weren't using the Hangouts half of the app I don't think I would use Hangouts for SMS. There are so many better options out there.

I have stored contacts on Exchange but I tested also Google and Samsung account and there is the same issue. When I call somebody or somebody calls me I see only small contact picture in the circle.
