Ok, so has anyone been able to get a custom bootscreen on this ROM? Me and Regaw tried working on it with no success. If you look into the ROM, you will see that there is a bootanimation.zip file inside the \system\media\ folder. Some say to just delete it and then flash the new bootscreen... Does not work. Some say to delete it and push the bootscreen folder into the media folder... Does not work. I have even tried taking the bootanimation.zip file and editing it around to get a new bootscreen... Does not work. So, has anyone found success on a custom bootscreen with DamageControl?
UPDATE: FORGOT TO ADD "THIS PROBLEM IS JUST ON NON-SPRINT CDMA HEROES!!! (I AM ON CELLULAR SOUTH)" You can see this in my BitterSweet ROM thread (It is based off DamageControl!)
You should just replace the bootanimation.zip with your signed .zip of what ever boot screen? If you havent tryed it yet go find out.
Ugh here let me look into it..
I wasn't going to but now i will.
I will come back with an update.

Yes, I have tried that. Reading is fun ;D
Yeah i know you have i just repeated it to make sure you knew what you were saying buddy... His new file is weird as ****... Its seems as if he doesnt want you to open 1.7 lol
I deleted everything within bootscreen folder and replaced it with the matrix screensaver files.
It works
Okay I have it.
since the bootanimation.zip is not working for you..(is for me)
I would recommend doinging the pain in the ass way and getting the iamges put together you want and putting them in the folder "sprit"
System, Media, Sprint.
and of course there you can change the sounds and all that ****.
If it doenst work that way I have one more idea.. But there is NOWAY it will not work that way..
Hope that helped
To clarify.
I have the bootscreen folder within the system/media folder, and it has the following files in it.
boot.mp3
boot1.gif
boot2.gif
boot_animation.xml
no zip file.
works like a dream

That makes no sense considering the fact that there is no bootscreen folder. Re-think what you just posted. We are talking about DamageControl

The bootanimation.zip file WORKS when I flash DamageControl. It has the HTC quietly Brilliant and then the Sprint animation, then the HTC quietly brilliant screen again. It works 100%, BUT I can not put a custom one there. Nor can I edit the bootanimation.zip file and it work again.
Are you going to make me put screen shots? Come on dude.. Look its in there just change the attached pictures.. It has no other choice but to work if you do that..
rm bootanimation.zip
then flash your own custom boot screen?
/system/media/bootscreen/
files inside /bootscreen/ directory:
boot.mp3
boot_animation.xml
boot1.gif
boot2.gif

CRAP. I forgot to add that it is a NON-Sprint CDMA hero problem. Your avatar reminded me.
THIS PROBLEM IS JUST ON NON-SPRINT CDMA HEROES!!! (I AM ON CELLULAR SOUTH)
i was able to get the boot animation file that i wanted onto damage control. it was the same one the regaw used on 2.0.7 r i think. the android supernova one. all i did was removed the boot animation zip in system/media through adb shell then flashed the new boot animation.
I have the matrix bootscreen on my DC v2.06 rom.
Flashed the bootscreen, then deleted bootanimation.zip. It worked on next reboot.

in a different place? What do you mean
Edit: Oh you meant the NON-Sprint hero is trying to get the bootscreen from a different file location? Well, I am not sure. That is what we are trying to find out. I know that boot screens work with other ROMS, its just Damage Control that is doing this (I THINK!!! I am going to test a lil later and see, but from what I remember, that is correct)

Yeah, that wont work... bootscreen.zip same rules don't apply... bootscreen.zip is ment for large animation sequences... fyi... individual pics as frames put into sequence by numbers in their names... gifs layered as frames with a embedded script to tell the drawing appwhat to do ...
If you want, pm me, and I'll send you the folder I use so you can try it. Delete the zip and place the folder there, works great for me.

bootscreen
did you look in /system/customize/resource ? i've foune a second copy of the bootanimation.zip file in there...
This is the Droid dance boot animation that I customized a little to work good with my evo. I made it have twice as many frames and run twice as fast. It looks great and has no lag. Just rename it to bootanimation.zip and use Root Explorer to replace your original in /system/customize/resource and it should run when u reboot. If you want a sound clip to go with it use ringdroid app to make a 20 second .mp3 clip for the Droid to dance to and rename it to SPC_animation_final.mp3 and put it in the same folder. Good luck and enjoy.http://db.tt/tdsEB50
I take no credit for this other than moving some .jpgs around and renaming them and redoing the folder setup to make it work correctly. I plan to refine this alittle more and remove the black bars. Also if anyone would like to help me make a flashable zip out of this PM me and I would really appreciate it. I will upload this to mediafire when I get home from work because dropbox limits downloads. Thanks and please don't think I am trying to rip off anyone's work. It just didn't work for me off the bat so I refined it and figured I would share.
EDIT: I have a redone it to a fullscreen version and it looks much better and still runs just as good. Here is the link...bootanimation.zip
EDIT 2# I have also added 2 flashable zips for the boot animation:
1. Flashable zip for Roms that have the bootanimation.zip in \system\customize\resource (such as Baked Snack, Stock) use RingDroid.apk to cut a 20sec music clip and rename it SPC_animation_final.mp3 and put in the same folder. Here is the link.
2. Flashable zip for Roms that have the bootanimation.zip in \system\media (such as Caulklin's EVio 2) use RingDroid.apk to cut a 20sec music clip and rename it to android_audio.mp3 and put it in the same folder. Here is the link.
These 2 .ZIPS are identical other than where they place the boot animation because some roms put them in different folders. I have not tested the .ZIP for the customize folder yet because I am currently running Caulklin's amazing EVio 2 1.5 rom. Please post your results with these files and also I would appreciate it if you would rate the quality. Thanks and Good luck!
Fullscreen version now in OP.
Thanks, Ill try this out later. For Cyanogen users, the .zip also must be placed in /system/media in case anyone is wondering.
Does the audio clip have to be 20 seconds for it to work?
any chance of making it with the background being black?
sometimes it seems like it speeds through the animation.. usually it stops on him facing away (he doesn't dance until the phone has booted).. any thoughts?

Tried both. Didn't work.
flashable zip 1 works on myns warm rls3. thank you
Going back to previous version with black bars. This version is too short and stops about 10-15 seconds before my phone boots up.
Ian B
Could you make it run about 10 seconds longer? Love the fullscreen otherwise.
Sorry for the problems guys, I don't use Cyanogen so I'm not sure what the problem is I would be very thankful if someone with some knowledge on making flashable zips could edit this to work on CM, I would definitely add it to the OP.
Also, I guess our phones run alittle different because the speed and timing for the bootanimation is perfect on my phone with every rom I have put it on. I will work on these as soon as I get a weekend (could possibly be after thanksgiving, sorry have been really busy at work lately). I will try slowing it down just alittle and also add some more frames and try to figure out how to make it loop correctly so it won't just freeze until the phone boots.
Sorry again for the problems, this is my first bootanimation so I'm still learning. I actually just wanted to get this working on my phone and decided to share it. I will update the OP as soon as I have the time to refine this further.

thanks man!
now trying to think of a song!
o yes! thanks man!
Used the zip file and added a song.. imma add it to my post. i will give you credit!
Great Job, will try this.....
Neat!
Works great on Myn's 2.2. I picked "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" from Scissor Sisters for the boot audio. Pretty funny. I have attached the edited version I am using. It might run a little long for some (about 35 seconds) but you can use Ringdroid to edit it.
This is not a flashable zip. Just extract/unzip the .mp3 and move it to the /system/customize/resource folder. If you want to save the original boot audio file be sure to rename it before moving or copying this one.
How do i install the boot animation found in this location http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-themes/54582-droid-x-boot-animation-blue-color-edited-me.html on my samsung captivate running official froyo (KB1). I have flashed the voodoo lagfix injected kernel too. Is the method of copying the bootanimation.zip to /system/media going to work? If it will work then i see two files under /system/media. one is called bootsamsung.qmg and another one called bootsamsungloop.qmg. if i paste the custom bootanimation.zip within this folder without removing these two .qmg files then what will happen? i will see two boot animations after at&t logo? or it will simply not work? Can someone please guide me on this?

Credit goes to sakindia123 and this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375547
Step 1 :
Place the files "samsungani" and "bootanimation" in /system/bin
Make sure these files have execute permission (-rwxr-xr-x)
Step 2 :
Place "sanim.zip" in /system/media
This file contains the boot animation. You can use bootanimation.zip file from other threads but they should be renamed to sanim.zip to work properly.
ex thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053250
Step 3 :
Remove "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg" from /system/media
As a standard good practice, you can keep a backup of these files somewhere on your sdcard/pc.
Step 4 :
Reboot and enjoy !
Note : This works on my Samsung Galaxy R with 2.3.5 stock rom.
was just going to post this

That's when you don't copy the right sanim.zip to your system/media/ folder.
First of all when you download the custom "bootanimationfile".zip it's not enough just to rename it! you must extract the package, find bootanimation.zip (not sure about location inside .zip but i guess it is /data/local or /system/data/local.) THIS file must be renamed to sanim.zip and copied to your /system/media. IT must work if you followed other steps above. I'm pretty sure it works on every FW!
In my phone there is no bootanimation.zip . There are some bootanimation.omg files. I googled them up an found that they r samsung's propitory format.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using XDA App
Dude...read tutorial and that what I wrote one more time. Nobody said you have bootanimation.zip on your phone. Guide works like a charm!
"find bootanimation.zip (not sure about location inside .zip but i guess it is /data/local or /system/data/local."
Told by you
Then you should cite the whole sentence
" First of all when you download the custom "bootanimationfile".zip it's not enough just to rename it! you must extract the package, find bootanimation.zip (not sure about location inside .zip but i guess it is /data/local or /system/data/local.) "
I was talking about one of the custom boot animations package ( that can be found e.g. here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053250 ) even localization I mentioned concerns the .zip file not the system folder of your device.
Of course we don't have bootanimation.zip in our stock, we have sanim.zip instead. Which is written in OP's tutorial above.

LOL Kochan - this guy ain't getting it.... maybe he should just download 'ROM Toolbox' and change the boot anim's from there.....much simpler for the newbies
No offence meant at all, sometimes it's just easier to have a program do these things for you ^.^
Change boot animation ardatdat 1.6
Can't figure it out, it doesnt work - no way. Followed the Tutorial exactly and tried different things. Finally i tried the sanim.zip from the first post in this thread. Black bootscreen but with the crappy Samsung sound
Firmware is stock XWKJ4, with ardatdat kernel 1.6
Could the kernel be the problem??
Of course it works. I've used XWLA4 as well. Worked like a charm. It has nothing to do with kernel.
1) Have you downloaded packages, extracted (custom booting.zip )and replaced stock "samsungani" and "bootanimation" (in /system/bin) with those u got from package?
2)Have you removed "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg" from /system/media?
3) Have you found a proper bootanimation.zip, renamed it to sanim.zip an placed in /system/media?
If you accomplished all steps above...your bootanimation.zip (sanim.zip) must be corrupted. Remember it's NOT a flashable package.! If you found somewhere a flashable version (it works only on AOSP/AOKP/CM roms) it must be extracted and then the right file must be copied to /system/media.
And one more thing. Bootanimation has nothing to do with bootsound. Wanna change bootsound, go to /system/etc and replace PowerOn.wav (this stands for bootsound), 1_Power_on.ogg (if you ignore this you won't be able to switch bootsound on/of together with setting you phone profile silent/normal) with your preferred ones.
You have to remove samsungani , then place bootanimation.zip
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?
@m.kochan10
1. yes
2. yes, but there is also a file called "odeanim.qmg". Do you know what this is?
3. after fiddling around with my own files did`nt work i finally downloaded the sanim.zip from the first post here. I did not touch it and put it to system/media. No success! Of course my own animation also did not work. Tried to generate the animation with this Boot Animation Creator from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234611. No success!
So there is no bootscreen now, i only see the Samsung GalaxyR letters then straight to homescreen. Thanks for the tip with the bootsound. Thats going to be the next i try. But first i need to change the animation.
Few questions:
a. does it matter if i take jpeg or png?
b. the pics of the animation need to have the resolution of my screen, right? 480x800
c. or do smaller pics just show up in the middle of the screen?
Thanks 4 helping!
2. Leave odeanim.qmg alone It won't help you by any means.
3. I attached a working sanim.zip just push it with root explorer to /system/media and reboot. We'll see if it work.
I'm sorry I cannot help you with your questions about creating bootanimation files. It's not my field (yet )
I give up!
-tried your sanim.zip - nothing.
-downloaded Custom Booting.zip again, unpacked it this time with Winrar instead of 7zip and copied them to system/bin (checked permissions-ok) - nothing.
There are not so many chances to f**ck this up but still it does`nt work.
Running out of ideas what to try out anyway.
So i just wait and hope for ICS, CM7, CM9 or whatsoever and give it another try then.
Where is the thread where i can ask for ETA of these roms?
(just joking...)
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I don't own the device so I cannot verify what goes wrong.
In worst case, since you've got nothing to lose, you may try to flash (sometimes you will have to flash several times - i don't know why, but I remember that sometimes I had to do it 8 times in a row before I managed to change a boot animation, you may even try wipe cache/dalvik cache) these zips:
a) Honeycomb - bumblebee 3D - Boot animation (I cannot promise it will work with first flash, but try few more times, it should work)
http://www.mediafire.com/?3kodfmmaxm1le3u
c) Stock One (If you totally give up and wish to revert to stock; same here)
http://www.mediafire.com/?jh76pi7fj6pmr2z
DO NOT EXTRACT: THEY ARE FLASHABLE via CWM!
Since Stock One was no option at all to me: Flashed the Honeycomb - bumblebee 3D once with with wiping cache and dalvik - works perfekt! Gonna try to change it to my own animation soon.
cheers man...

Good work man!
Tip: renaming the files to bootanimation.zipold should be bootanimation.zip.old, same with the poweron.wav file. Or you could rename it to .bak, that is how some of the various apps do it so the filesystem thinks it is a backup file. I think sdmaid will remove .old files when using it that is why I suggest using the .bak extension.

Couple of things...
First, while I do appreciate the thanks, I was under the assumption you were going to add this to a full ROM you were working on and not just post it in another forum. If that was the case you could have just linked to my post that I did for this. The reason I never posted it in any other phone forums is that the resolution is set specifically for the Galaxy S Vibrant, therefore may have not looked as good on other devices.
Second, for the sound to work, it all depends on your kernel. I never did one for mine cause the majority of people that use the device I designed the bootanimation.zip for had VooDoo kernels and those do not support boot sound.
Third, if you're wanting to make it flashable you're going to have to learn the code for the recovery system you are using for the phone. I used to have a flashable version of mine, but when codes changed for CWM Recovery, I just figured it was easier to tell people where to push the file to.
Again, I do appreciate the thanks, but next time be a little clearer on what you're doing with someone else's work before posting it as your own.
Thank you
