NexusMod live wallpaper users using Sense... - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

Do you have the same problem with the NexusMod live wallpaper randomly disappearing when you wake the phone up?
While my phone is plugged into my computer and is charging, everytime I wake the phone up, the live wallpaper is still there and chugging along. However, when the phone is not plugged into the computer or charging, the phone randomly loses the live wallpaper and reverts to my old wallpaper.
I'm just wondering if perhaps the phone is doing this to conserve on the battery or if it's just a glitch?
Does anyone else have this same issue? Would appreciate it if people could test having it connected to the computer/not connected and post their results. Perhaps someone could chime in with a fix if we collect some data.
Thanks!

That's a known problem, and if I'm not mistaken, the LWP fix posted in Flip'z Fresh ROM thread has the fix for download.

Yep. But it installs a different version of OpenGL which breaks all kinds of things, not the least of which slows Gallery down to a crawl, busts 3d in Google Maps, etc.
It's not worth it, in my opinion.

Take note that the OpenGL "fix" breaks OpenGL for everything but LWP. GoogleNav will have no on screen nav, just audio, any games that use OpenGL will be damn near unplayable, etc etc.

Hence the reason I decided to just screw LWP's all together and put the old OpenGL on my rom... LWP's just seem to be too much of a hassle.

Some of them work just fine. Digital Rain, Bezier, a couple others, on the version that comes with the current roms.

Flipz has a 'undo' zip file on his website.
http://geekfor.me/fixes/rosie-lwp-fix-opengl/

I gave up on it since this wallpaper doesnt stick with the normal openGL. Then it seems to stick (havent test long term) with the "fix" but doesnt perform well enough to use.
I just went with the berzier wallpaper.

Heh. Yeah. Oops.
Edit: Changed my original post to read 'different' instead of 'newer'. Thanks Darch.

so now our choice is no longer between lwp and weather animations it between both of those and the rest of what uses the other opengl?
any way we can have both?

Live Wallpapers running on CDMA Hero

Review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIL7tXnlEKU
- courtesy of kenfly
update: thanks to chuckhriczko we have an update.zip. googlebits included, livewallpapers are running, except for nexus ones, this is working on the AOSP 2.0.1 build, includes the new music app, youtube, new 3d gallery, its slow and glitchy but it does load,launcher2 is installed but just gives a black screen and force closes, most likely due to lack of openGL but the still wallpapers from it work!!!and updated host scripts to block ads.
Wipe, flash and enjoy.
http://www.4shared.com/file/199173614/387bc31a/aosp-lwp-signed.html
Update:
i have the nexus LWP to sit on loading, no longer force closes, i have the nexus themed launcher installed, flan clock app, gumbo kernal installed, protected apps showing in market, will upload new version once i get super users to work right
Awesome! Can't wait for a release.
so.. opengl is working? on 2.1? at least it was my understanding that is what was needed..

its 2.0.1, openGL is needed for the 3d gallery, not lwp
Looks real nice, can't wait for this one.
Nice, but i tried AOP 2.0.1 and its too glitchy plus i hate the keyboard
That is sweet I would deal with vanilla Android (i like sence) to be able to use that.
Keep up the good work.
So when we get updated to Eclair sometime in the not to distant future this will be a feature that we can use?

It looked like it put some serious lag when switching between the three homescreens. Did you experience that, or was it just from the quality of the video? Nonetheless, that is sweet

Very cool! I am looking forward to trying this out.
Awesome. We all will be looking forward to it. I do need to ask, is it possible to get this on the Hero 2.1 build that's floating around or are the files that need to be modified hacked to hell by HTC in those roms?
Is the camera and gps working on this build????
How is it that someone who can figure out how to get that running on his Hero has no idea how to get a camera to focus on something?
Does the Google Voice app work correctly on 2.0.1? That's the one issue that's prevented me from using the 2.1 ROM on a daily basis.

(TEST ROM) damage control with JIT

ok here is an alpha. lots of people want to see how JIT improves things... not too much. this is only for enjoyment right now just to experience JIT on 2.1
NANDROID BACKUP.
then after you wipe flash this rom
you will get an FC just continue on. then you cant sign into google and i am aware of this. just skip it all. then sense will load
do not use the screen for navigation. it will FC. just push the button on the bottom left of the expresso bar and use the trackball to go to settings/applications/manage applications. now you use the touch screen and go to HTCsense and click it. clear defaults, press home and choose nexus launcher. tada now experience JIT and all its kinda goodness lol. i do not think market works but if enough people want jit, i will make a JIT enabled rom with no sense for damages new release.
enjoy
http://www.4shared.com/file/248913328/7bc74b74/DCJITALPHA.html
this is in no way, shape, or form an everyday rom. as i stated above it is only for people who are curious as to what JIT is and can do.

HTC apps(as in lockscreen and Sense) don't seem to work well at all with JIT. not surprised, though.
the current release of JIT floating around is incomplete, thats the problem.
Ah, I thought it was just sense. Nexus launcher worked fine.
good to hear no one flaming me lol
yeh hopefully when we get dalvik turbo which is made by totally different people as JIT then we will have that 200% increase and the amazing sense speed they got.
we'll see, I think the JIT will be pretty dang fast when it's completed, and we're not stuck with just a development snapshot.

Nah, fell into permalock.20 minutes later pulled the battery.
Been running JIT on dc v1 for a few days now, but using gde homescreen (I like having my extra screens and soft keys). Works great.. minimal to no improvement in the games really, but a huge improvement in the speed of using live wallpapers. Went from not being able to use the fireworks and slide (cube style) from one screen to the next, for example, to being able to no problems now. HUGE difference on live wallpapers. A glitch here and there, a hang up on boot once or twice, but a restart and all was ok. ALMOST able to use as a daily rom with JIT, close enough I do anyways.
edit: didn't mention, but I used the instructions from another thread to just copy over the libdvm.so file to enable JIT, worked fine.
bumpage
Please pardon the ignorance, but google has still left me with a huge ??? on my forehead.
What exactly is JIT? I consider myself an above average user, I just have new acronyms that I don't understand

teeter & youtube...when are they gonna fix this?

so im on a custom 1.5 pancake rom and i notice the game teeter does not work. the ball just sits there at the top corner and does not move? it is the same on any 2.1 rom ive used as well.
also the youtube app does not play videos? i know 2.1 fixes this but why not fix the 1.5 roms too?
i know these things are not important but it really bothers me. and yes i know there are 3rd party apps to replace these but come one htc!

If teeter never worked for you then your phone is broken, so it hasn't been fixed because you haven't taken it in to be fixed. Teeter has worked for every stock phone I have seen and even on the few custom roms that didn't remove it by default.
Youtube is a bit buggy but that is not an HTC problem, its a google problem and they fixed it afaik.

#1 my phones not broke.
#2 the youtube app has not been fixed for any 1.5 rom. 2.1 fixes it.

Not trying to be rude here, so don't take it as such.
Addressing Teeter:
My wife's hero, 1.5 based (Fresh 1.1) and also under stock:
Teeter works absolutely perfectly. Both roms.
I just flashed back to stock to check it on my hero:
Teeter works absolutely perfectly.
Edit:
As for Youtube, I wouldn't imagine anyone bothering to put any time into making it work, given that it DOES work on the 2.x series of ROMs and the official Sprint ROM shouldn't be too much longer. If it's that important, I recommend flashing one of the many stable ROMs (Flipz, Damage, etc) and using that until the official comes out. Any of the bugs have been minor, and the only major one I've seen (the sound issue) has a fix that seems to work just fine.
If you're having trouble with it, there indeed might be something wrong. I'd try calibrating your G-Sensor, if that doesn't work (and if you're running stock) I'd definitely take it in, because it is a definite indication of a problem.
I've never had a problem with teeter. If Youtube is so important, just install a 2.1 ROM and your problem is fixed. Have you tried calibrating your G-sensor?

yes i did, i found a thread here on xda that lists a whole host of htc phone calibration issues including our hero's. looks to be no fix for it yet. maybe this is like the dust issues, some have it and some do not?

Guess it could be. It'd be odd though if you are the only one without a working teeter.
On the plus side though, if you are getting anything at all (50 you said I think) it means the accelerometer is at least functioning.

Quick live wallpapers+sticking?

First off am I the only one that wishes the original opengl would stick? Performance was alot better for that one (especially for the nexus wallpaper). Is getting the performance of the original live wallpaper we had and the sticking of the new patch possible? Right now that is the only problem stopping my phone from being the sex.
EDIT: Problem seems to happen when another widget is updated. Its not perfectly smooth, but not bad, but when a widget updates it really slows down the wallpaper to a noticeable halt. I doubt im the first to notice this, but for anyone else that really wants nexus wallpaper, having less widgets on your main page seems to help.
I moved the news+weather widget you see below to another page and it seems to jitter less.
I agree. Losing the performance from the new OpenGL isn't worth having LWP's. They might have a fix for this when Toast's Awesome Sauce ROM is complete.

Yeah I disagree with "there is no point in having them if it is slower".......the patch works pretty dam well with most wallpapers its just the peski nexus being alittle to slow to be usable for me. MagnusRagnarok my OP was not an attack on you at all. I am extremely thankful for what you have done, and hope you have not taken my post that way. I am just trying to see if more people feel the same way as me. For me getting the nexus one wallpaper running alittle bit better would get me closer to completing my phone.

Hey guys, I know a lot of us have been dying to get the nexus wallpaper working without having to do the opengl fix to make wallpapers stick, seeing as it made the wallpaper ran really choppy. I found a way to get it to stick, run smooth, and not have to change the opengl. I used the update zip posted by emerica6541 and it stuck right on and have ran smooth ever since. Granted he did modify the wallpaper so the lights are smaller, but I think it looks better that way on our heroes due to the smaller screen. It has survived multiple reboots, and over 30 mins of sleep time. I am running darch's legend rom though, so I'm not sure if this will work for damage's or flipz's roms, but its worth a shot.

OpenGL ES 2.0 was publicly released in March 2007[1], eliminates most of the fixed-function rendering pipeline in favor of a programmable one. Almost all rendering features of the transform and lighting pipelines, such as the specification of materials and light parameters formerly specified by the fixed-function API, are replaced by shaders written by the graphics programmer. As a result, OpenGL ES 2.0 is not backwards compatible with OpenGL ES 1.1.

It works! This is fun, currently playing with this ROM paired with P3Droids lv250 1200mhz kernel. Runs extremely well all things considered.
Aside from the the bugs mentioned the only other issues I've found are
- Two seemingly identical stock gallery and email programs installed. Neither of which can be uninstalled via app manager.
- My computer does not see the phone when plugged in via USB and phone does not ask to connect to computer. I have not done anything with ADB yet.
- The phone will auto rotate horizontal when the keyboard is opened but will not rotate back when closed in some applications.
Ill post/edit if something new comes up

Hi there. I'm the guy that put this little thing together. I did not build this myself/from source. I just happened to take a few things that were working on various builds and glue them together. It does play 3D games and what not, but since the accelerometer does not work, it doesn't really do a whole lot of good. I'm not sure exactly what OPENGL version it has, or how to check it, but if you point me in the right direction, I'm sure I can figure it out for you. (Found this in the Build.prop: # The OpenGL ES API level that is natively supported by this device.
# This is a 16.16 fixed point number
ro.opengles.version = 131072)
As far as the issues, they have been well documented in the original thread on DroidForums. Just to break them down for you though...
Broken:
1)GPS (which also causes browser and any other location finder service associated apps to close when attempting to locate.) You can use a different browser, or set home page to something other than Google.
2)Accelerometer. I'm assuming it is because there are some new sensors included in Gingerbread. I thought it might have something to do with the akmd file, but I've tried a few different ones with no luck...
3)USB Storage. This is an easy fix with an app in the Market place called Multi Mount SD. They have a free and paid version. Dual Mount also works. These are widgets and must be used as such.
As far as the "duplicate" apps, they are different versions of the same app and are easily removed with Titanium Backup.
Most likely, this is not your every day rom. I have been using it, because it's fun to run something you had a hand in making, but it's not considered stable. With that being said, it's the easiest to use rom that we have available and no other Motorola phones really have anything else better, so enjoy what we have.
Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas / Insert whatever gives you warm and fuzzy feelings here.
PS. I am not a dev, so really can't trouble shoot anything too effectively. I've been trying different things to fix the issues, but have not had much luck. I was hoping some devs on DF would pick up on the interest in this project and be able to figure it out, but not much luck so far.
PSS. Definitely suggest flashing another kernel once you set the original rom up and do a nandroid. A lot of the 2.2 kernels work. I've had the most luck with Slayher interactive ones. Try a 1200 one. It's pretty quick...
Can you port it to Milestone please?
The Oldy Europe needs help because of Motorola's #&#$%!*^ support...

No can do, sorry. I'm not a dev, so I wouldn't even have the slightest idea how to do such a thing. Plus I dunno anyone with a Milestone to play with. From what I understand, it is quite a pain in the neck due to the differences between the GSM and CDMA.
Bro i used this it work but the camcorder isnt working and it kick me out of the browser.
Camera works
but it feel like 2.2 os with some add on with 2.3 os.
When will the hacker get a stable 2.3 os with full feature from 2.3 os???

It's fun to see whats up and coming and as long as it works well enough to show off I would call this a success! My roommate with his Fascinate still on 2.1 is peeved haha.
Thanks for your work!

Not sure about the camcorder. Mine works for me. The browser thing has been discussed many times on all Gingerbread threads. You can't go through the browser's regular home page because location services is not working. Internet works if you:
A) Change the home page to something other than Google.com
B) Get a different browser.
C) Go through the Google Search Box.
It feels like it is 2.2 with some add-ons, because that is exactly what 2.3 is. It's not a major OS revision. Most of the work is behind the scenes dealing with memory management, speed, and such. If it's not faster for you than 2.2, that's odd (if you have not flashed a new kernel with this, highly recommended). There won't be a fully functioning rom till someone is able to figure out how to get some of the proprietary drivers rewritten to work with this boot.img. Not exactly a task for a beginner. Motorola certainly is giving any handouts, so be happy with what ya have.
There are people working on it though, you just have to be patient. It's not something as simple as, "Oh, I'll just add this or that file and everything magically works."
I'm glad some of you are enjoying it though. Blackdroid's team is working on an Alpha. Still broken accelerometer with half working GPS. Hopefully in the next week or 2, he'll push some more stable builds out. Until then, just use this to show off and have a back up of your favorite stable rom. Take care...

There is a Brazilian dev trying to port the Ginger to the Milestone.
The name of the MOD is "ShadowMODBR" but it's not complete.
The Froyo version is great btw. I'm very exciting to try the Ginger version.
