Um - the built-in email app? Just set it to push delivery. I'm assuming you are using an Exchange server for email?
for true push you want k9 mail in the market. there was also maildroid but people prefered k9 even though they had nearly identical features.

How is ActiveSync's push not "true push"?
well i havent cared to check lately to see if it improved but if you installed k9 on the captivate and had both running k9 would always give you a notification long before the stock app. but im thinking back almost a year, the email stock app may be improved now, lately i have only used my phone for checking email not replying or composing but i remember the stock apps being limited. k9 seemed more fully featured, could attach any file type and had a global inbox for all your accounts.

Well, I used "Improved Email" which is a slightly modified version of the stock app - primarily because it lets me setup multiple Exchange accounts. But anyway, I routinely get notifications of new emails on it before my desktop notifies me (granted, my desktop is running in "Cached Mode" - but still...).
oh sorry. due to insomnia my brain isnt working. yes the stock app may have push for exchanger servers but it doesn't for personal emails. k9 might not be "true" either but it is much faster than the stock app can be on your gmail and other accounts. i need to watch how i word things but what i was getting at is in many cases k9 is very near real time notifications for most email accounts.

In that case I defer to your experience. I don't really use my Gmail account, so I have no idea how quickly it delivers email. I only assumed the poster was using Exchange because that's Blackberry's claim to fame - and I've never understood why Blackberry users seem to think that BB is the only way to get their email immediately - Exchange server has had that functionality baked in for years.

well the gmail app delivers the gmails fast but that app sux for full time use
i used to use k9 and killed notifications for gmail and email. now i stopped caring, i dont have a work email anymore and i stopped using my other personal email from an isp i no longer use so im down to only my gmail but use my computer to reply now as nothing in my life is that urgent at the moment that i need to reply from my phone where ever i am. i may be out of touch with what works now.
Thanks for the help guys. FYI it has nothing to do with thinking that bb's are the only phones that can get instant email. Just some people arent as tech savvy or forgot since they havent owned htc/wm phones in a long time OR never owned android like myself.
I do appreciate all the help however guys!

Finally for those who use Hotmail an official app with push mail and a widget not bad although the widget isn't very aesthetically pleasing.
Hotmail App
I'm gonna try this one out... there's always the stock app, which does it job good enough, imo... but this one might have something the stock one hasn't...
Thx!
Not a bad app, I expected worse.
nice one

Any chance someone could post the apk?
I've been using this for several months as the SEVEN Beta, it let you add any email account including corporate/exchange ones. Still using it and it works really well.
i recommend whatsup app..

Can you add non-Hotmail accounts as well?
Son of a... no Honeycomb love. I have the same problem with my bank's app and a bunch of others. I have spare parts. It will scale to full screen. Just let me download it, dangit! This is android, don't tell me it's not compatible.

Yea, it has Yahoo and Gmail and you can add Exchange accounts too as long as the account has webmail access. I think you can also add custom POP3/IMAP accounts. But for some reason the Beta is no longer available on their site. You can probably find it through a google search though it's called Seven Mail and IM Beta.

You know you can add hotmail as exchange email using default add account and choose exchange... all you need you hotmail email address and as user name use your email address and password your hotmail password and leave the domain empty and as for server type m.hotmail.com

Yeah same problem , it realy drains the battery.
I realy liked the app because of it html support in email, but it realy sucks because of the battery drain!
Anyone knowing a good alternative with html support and a clean interface?
I'm happy with the battery life using the app. As a matter of fact I switched to using the Hotmail app from using an exchange based email. Under Exchange, push was constantly sending POP3 requests and I was getting errors saying that I was exceeding the maximum number of POP3 requests. Battery life was terrible.
Under Hotmail/SEVEN app, battery life is great and no POP3 errors.
HOWEVER, my problems include
1. I cant add or update my contacts since it only displays the names of the contacts and no other information... like email, phone etc.
2. Some emails won't show the message body. Still trying to determine why certain bodies won't show but the majority will.
Hopefully they can fix both BUGS. Other than that, it's a decent app.
thanks for sharing, really good

I think Aqua Mail is the one to go for. I use it for my gmail and outlook accounts. You can even download Development builds on their forum. It has a pleasant interface and a lot of options.
i just use the gmail app , no complaints here. Guess it all depends on what you want in the app.

cheers guys ill go through them and c which is the one for me..
Cloudmagic (free and perfect for exchange accounts, but a little "dangerous" about privacy) or Aquamail (very good but free version is limited to 2 accounts and adds app infos in each outgoing mail sign and paid version is expensive for me, about 4 euros).
AquaMail but has no threaded messaging, some like that feature, I don't.
SolMail is good too.
Mailwise too.

Have you ever tried MailWise Beta? It allows you to bypass the exchange security lock if that is something you are interested in or if you company policy enforces that. I think it has a nice interface as well. I guess it all depends on user preference.
I'm still stuck with samsung email for my exchange account n I think it's a pretty decent one.. I've tried Aqua and K9 but didn't really like the user interface of both

I am running an Xposed module that allows me to turn it off. I am also using Wanam Xposed that has the option in it as well.
Edit:
If that doesn't work for you, you could always try MailWise Beta. They have an option to turn that off as well with a code. Download the app, before setting up your account, open the app, hit the menu button, click on exchange bypass and follow the instructions.

Yeah. You may be able to build it from source from CM but sounds like a pain.

Why not just download another email app. Like Outlook, that one works well with all email accounts.
I'd strongly recommend K9 as an email app. Been using that since my G1 and it's still outstanding!
K9 or blue mail works great, I've used k9 for a long time, just switched over to blue, very hard to decide which one is the keeper ?

These guys are not actually correct.
The "stock" email program STILL EXISTS, and in fact, is actually INSTALLED on Pixel devices from factory!
BUT, google has merged its UI into the GMAIL program.
So you have two options if you want to use the "stock" email program;
1) Set up your IMAP email account through the GMAIL program,
2) DISABLE the gmail program, and guess what happens? The "email" program launcher icon shows up in your launcher!
HOWEVER, it really is a much better idea to use k9mail instead. It is far more feature rich.

That's a good find but unfortunately doesn't work for me. My mail server wont play nice with the Gmail app so I can't even get it configured. Aquamail Pro is nice, arguably better than K9, although it was just acquired by MobiSystems so who knows how future updates are going to look. Large companies acquiring small, indie developer projects does not usually end well for the app.
Security-wise, Aquamail, K9 and Nine are about the only third-party apps I'd consider.
I know this thread is now almost 2 months old.
what I"m looking for is a mail app to keep my gmail separate from my 2 exchange emails - and it MUST integrate with a calendar widget.
I haven't found one that works best. I liked the old "Mail" app - I could left swipe to delete, right to options - all your reply, reply-all, forward options right at the top of each message, rather than the options dots.
Outlook won't get sucked into my Google Calendar.

Aquamail - I tried just about every top email app. Also needed it to support Calendar, works perfect. I use the paid version and can't imagine a more customizable Android email client. Absolutely outstanding. Extremely reliable too.
Use Nine for Exchange. I've been using it for years, best Android email client.

Yeah, definitely for Exchange. I still prefer K9 for IMAP (easy to have lots of aliases) but Nine is definitely where it's at for Exchange. Great integration to Calendar and more!
It seems that only the Lollipop branch of the stock email app 7.0-x is merged into Gmail. Earlier versions of the stock email app, targeted for KitKat like email app 6.3-x, are still working. I am on CM 11 and the fresh installed email app 6.3-1218562 seems functional and wants to be configured with an email account.
However, regarding security concerns it may be still better to use an alternative mail client like K9. I ask me now how that one performs on low-level phones with weak hardware. All these super-rich features of that nice K9 mailing app needs surely hardware power. I noticed a similar behavior also on more recent Gmail versions. These are far more hardware hungry then older ones. That's the reason why I like the stock email app, - it seems lightweight and fast.
Hello there!
I've noticed, that sent e-mail are not saved/moved (don't know which mechanism should be) into "Sent" folder. Well... they are, but they're just available from phone - there's no sign of e-mails on webmail or directly on desktop e-mail application (like Thunderbird or eM Client). Does any one experience similar issues?
my email app working good , sending and incoming mails all are good
Is your email account setup as IMAP?
Besides, I remember there's an auto BCC in the Settings menu that you can set to always auto BCC yourself...

I don't have this exact issue, but I noticed that any email more than a week old seems to be removed from the app and has to be searched for manually, especially the starred emails. I'm using a Yahoo account for mine though.

I'm not the OP, but the stock mail app is just a portal to these various email servers. For some reason though, the stock app doesn't continue to store messages older than about a week and you have to search the email server to retrieve them. It's annoying, but it works.
I tried using the Gmail app, but it lacked some of the features I use in the stock app. I also tried inbox and Yahoo's own app but neither of them would connect to my work email account.
So just like the OP, I'm having some issues with the stock app but it works better for my needs than the others. If you're also using the stock app, please chime in with your experience.
