Hi people!
I'm not fully set into the whole thing about system images and the emulator. What I'm doing here is running the emulator with a 1.6 system.img to get to the pay apps since it's not available in Sweden. I'm then transferring them to my phone. It's the only way here when the apps aren't available on slideme etc.
Question: I've run into the problem of getting 1.6 specific apps even when 2.1 versions are available from the market due to the 1.6 system being emulated. Is there any hacked system.img for 2.1 yet or any other way of fooling the market that I am using a 2.1 version phone. All I need is to get the 2.1 version down, it doens't have to work on the emulator phone, I just need it to get downloaded from the market.
Hope this isn't considered "warez" here or something, I'm paying for the apps I'm downloading.
Kristian
Id love to know how to do this as well.
As it seems, it's not possible. At least nobody I've asked has any clue on how to do it.

Hi
I have noticed on the android market page that apps are not available to download with a fee e.g.
http://www.android.com/market/paid.html#app=guitarhero
however i'm on dev 1.1 in the uk and have tried the text number with no success. am i doing something wrong? or is there another way?
Issues:
1. AFAIK, paid apps are not available at all outside the US. This is filter via sim card. I might be wrong with the UK though.
2. Dev phones (IE any ADP release so far) has been filter from being able to buy 'copy protected' paid apps. Only non protected paid apps will show up in the market. This is mainly because google dropped the ball big time and has yet to fix it. This is my theory on why ADP1.1 Official is yet to be released, as they are trying to figure out a better strategy than a simple folder that non root (ie non ADP phones) users do not have access to eek.
So, basically I think you are screwed on both counts
However, it does seem that rooted RC33s can see paid apps without issue, and the market only filters (possibly) based on the release Keys.
Perhaps we could resign the JF ADP1.1 Holiday images with the RC33 keys, and thus be able to have full market access and not be second class citizens. Any one think of why that does not work?
I heard UK and the rest of the countries will be getting the market. Just not yet, they are testing it out first in U.S.A.
Sometime in March it'll be open to you guys.
I know there is Atrackdog or whatever it is called, but it doesnt actually do the downloading (and mostly tells you about updates which dont exist on the marketplace)
Is there any app which checks your installed apps , checks the market and downloads/installs them all?
The reason I ask is that its not an uncommon occurrence to have 4-5 apps which have a new version out around the same time. And this morning I did a BART restore and having to 1 by 1 update each of the 20 or so apps was a bit of a bind.
so this doesnt exist and noone seems to think there is a need for it?
there is a huge need for a mass market updater, but I think I've read that it's not possible to do with the current SDK. Google would have to update the Market app.
someone, please correct me if I'm wrong.
I would absolutely love an apt, yum, etc implementation for the android market and other software repositories.
the possibilities are mind boggling.
I'm looking for several apps in the marketplace. I know they exist but they don't show up. I have a Samsung Captivate, rooted and running the lag fix and gps fix. I have run the market access app to emulate several other market places T-mobile, Verizon, Sprint etc.
For example, I cannot find paintshop pro, Logmein Ignition, or Caligo chasers. I have heard that some apps might not be available to rooted phones but to me that doesn't make sense. Excluding apps from the market literally forces you to pirate them because they cannot be legitimately purchased from the market.
Is my phone being excluded because it's rooted or could there be some other problem?
Is there a workaround
It seems that after a bit of research that I can see that google has made rooted phones unable to see protected apps. There must be some workaround for this, I cannot imagine all the rooted android users just not having access to large quantities of great apps.
My rom might be the problem
Upon further investigation it appears that my particular rom, and not the fact that I am rooted, might be to blame. Does anyone know how to hide my rom from the market or if I can access the market in a way that will make the market think I am using a different rom.
no work around?
does anyone have an Idea about how to work around this? I seem ro be missing out on some great apps.
Figured I would post in here instead of starting a new thread since this pertains to my question/issue.
I have a Samsung Vibrant running on SoftBank(Japan) network. I rooted and had initially loaded up Bionix Fusion JACs Kernel(TeamWiskey) ROM and was able to download Angry Birds off of the Market. I then wanted to try out Frankin-Twiz (Eugene373) ROM, after I loaded the ROM I went to the Market to find Angry Birds and it wasnt there. This was the only App that I know for sure that I couldn't get after loading the new ROM.. there might be others, I just cant say what they are.
So it is defiantly a ROM issue. Anyone have any ideas why?
try market enable which is available in the market. but i think u also need to root your phone to use it

I think this question has been asked many times before. I suffer the same problem, so I wonder if there is another way of installing Android market apps on a phone without android. For example, using a QR code scanner? Would that work from a device that doesn't have Android market?
It's an android application, so to use on a non-android phone you'd have to port it.

android software packages cannot run on non-android devices, no offence but we know this.
Us users of devices that have an android version without Android market, want to have android market on that device.
I just tried using a QR code scanner on my motorola XT701 (which from the factory does not have android market), and it failed to install, because it wants android market presumably.
So here goes again: does someone know of a way to access android market apps on an android device that does not have android market?
Alternatively, can someone explain why Google does not make Android Market available? I mean, it's in their own best interests isn't it? I mean, Google Android is an Opens Source platform, so the app should be available to all android users, right? Or am I thinking to normal here?
For your phone or tablet to have access to Android Market and the rest of the Google apps, it has to be approved by Google. Android itself is free to everyone, but not those apps.
many thz everyone
it can be loaded but crashed in loading terms and argeement scan.
So how about flashing it to another rom or kernal?
For phones flashing it with a new ROM is possible, most android phones tend to have a ROM availale somewhere. However, for those Chinese made tablets, many donot have Market installed. I happen to have one I bought in May, and it does have Android Market, but so far many others do not, even proper brand ones, like Archos, don't have Market, which is sad.
So for chinese tablets, I guess you just hav eto search until you find one that has teh market pre-installed. Probably you'd have to order from HK, rather than mainland china (they are quite arsy, even about google maps. Infact, if you check google maps in China, you wil find the satellite images have been shifted compared to the map....)
Howdy,
I use a captivate on At&t's network and I was using Cognition 2.36b with no problems(regarding the Market). Now I've installed Cognition 3.01 and the Market does not allow me to bill to my At&t account.
I assume this is because 3.01 is based off a rogers modem(from what I've read??)
Is there anyway to get an At&t version of the market? Or fake the location?
I see V 2.2.11 is out...will these fix the issue?
Thanks a ton for the help! I really appreciate it
don't know if this will work, but download market access: http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
and set it AT&T (310410 I believe) and see if that helps
edit: bah, just downloaded to take a quick look-see, but seems it's already set to 310410 for me and I don't have the bill-to-carrier option
I tried replacing the Vending.apk and MarketUpdater.apk from Cogn2.38.
Also, tried the MarketAccess app.
Nothing seems to get past the problem and let the Market work as AT&T. Probably some Rogers stuff in the rom blocking it.
I also had no luck with the market access app. I never did try 2.38, I assume that the billing option was available there?
Thanks for the replies! Hopefully we can come up with something as a fix
I've also tried Market Enabler with no luck...
Not here either
I'm running 2.3b8 and don't have the option anymore either. It was available on JH7 so it's something with the ROM.
It could be att blocking it....
I am on cog2.3b8 and it worked a week ago. And i tried just yesterday BEFORE i flashed 3.0 and it no longer worked.
If ive done my research correctly, 2.x is based on AT&T's stock rom. 3.x is based on rogers version of 2.2. That would make sense why the market isn't working, and why our markets did work with 2.x versions of the rom. I just dont understand why the market enabler apps aren't working...
Hopefully a solution pops up soon

It works fine for me.
Theres a app call MY MARKET, it will let u browse all the avaiable apps unblocked
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Tapatalk
Also, i changed my home on my browser. might want to give that a try. i went to google.com, instead of the rogers homepage.
My home was google.com automatically. The MY Market app is good to browse other carriers apps, but it doesn't allow billing to AT&T
Thanks for the continued ideas...
Market Hijacked
I don't know if this is related or not, but I'm posting here because this showed up on my ATT Captivate a couple days after I flashed Cognition 3.01
Whenever I bring up the Market App, I get the following message:
" Warning: Your device may not be compatible with Android Market.
Contact your device's manufacturer for more information. "
Also- most of the apps that show up are bogus, and simple searches provide no results. Graphically - it looks just like the normal Android Market app - but it is filled with a lot of nonsensical apps - along with a few genuine (?) apps.
Most have no user reviews, or have reviews like: "this is a test"
Many are "authored" by devs with names like: "Testing pubsite" , "UK developer" , "tester r35" , and many more, similarly named.
In addition to this, my market history ("My apps") was EMPTY, even though the (many) apps I downloaded and installed after the Cognition flash all seem to be available and functioning properly.
This behavior did not appear until yesterday - I had been using the Andriod Market without incident for ~ 3days after flashing the Cog 3.01 ROM.
The only difference I saw was that the AT&T tab on the Market's startup screen was replaced with "My apps" - but I expected that with a custom ROM.
It would seem MY phone's Market app is taking me to a different site - not THE Genuine Android Market.
Is there any way to patch the phone's MArket app to restore either :
the Market released with COG,
the "normal" AT&T Market app, or
ANYTHING else that would be useful ??
Thanks in advance for the help !!!
I may be mistaken, but isn't your android id linked to the market? I wonder if you need to use Android ID changer to change back to your original Android ID?
