Hello folks, I've ordered a sim free HTC Tattoo to use my current 3UK sim in, I've already sourced 3's MSN and SKYPE apps to install, the last thing I need is Email on 3 - Can any one help? Can I supply download it from Planet 3?
Thanks

Just Use the stock email app or better, download K-mail from the market

Just watch the port number for your smtp server!
3UK seem to block port 25 (the default) so it's worth checking with your email provider to see
whether they have an alternative port you could use.
I use free Hotmail so pop3 is a no go. Email on 3 pushes my mail instantly. Will the default mail program on the Tattoo do this? If not, are there any free apps that will?
Hotmail does pop3 no problem.
pop3.live.com
ssl on
smtp.live.com
TLS security on
port 25
job's a goodun.
My free hotmail account has been doing pop access since they launched it last year or whenever.

Oh that's great, I didn't realise they'd started allowing pop3. Are there any added benefits to using a Google email account on my HTC Tattoo rather than my Hotmail email account? Using the default mail app that will come on my HTC Tattoo.
you'll need a google account, otherwise you can't use the market.
also, using a google account means all your contacts and calendar can be backed up to the google servers, instead of having to use HTC Sync, which is just bloody awful
Try this;
http://community.seven.com/main.php
It's what 'email on Three' is, but as it's only a beta at the moment Three haven't released it yet for Android.
I've signed up for a GMAIL account and have it fetch my HOTMAIL, LIVE and MSN emails and also have it setup to send as my MSN account. It's a little slow as it only polls for new emails every so many minutes but it'll do...
'SEVEN' is push email, and as far as I know the only such free email application for Android.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going stick with GMAIL (collectiong my other emails and using my MSN as the send as address) due to GMAIL being already part of the phone. I'll see how this works out before I look to other avenues. My phones on back order... =[

how do I set up the AKU2 for an exec on tmobile uk,will it run ok?
i am aware of this, but wanted to know if anyone had an idea as to how to change the reply-to address???
I have emails forwarded to the mail2web account so i can get the exchange sync on my Wizard but do not reply to them from it as i do not want that email address to be avaliable
mail2web
Ive been using the paid service of mail2web (i liked the free service enough that i wanted a full service) for the last 3 months now, in europe, in china the push email has worked great (no i dont work for them, but geeze when something just works its nice).
1) get the free account at www.mail2web.com
2) choose your [email protected]
3) redirect all your email to your mail2web.com address
4) when u want to reply to something simply setup an imap, or pop3
account that you never poll, so when u want to reply to an email,
switch account, new, send email. its a bit cludgy, we need a better
email client that allows us to adjust the from address.
a.
As far as I am aware, it is something they have to do at the server end. I spoke to them about it and changing the domain of the reply address is one of the features of their buisness packages.
However, they did say that they are thinking of adding this to the personal package soon (don't know if that includes the free one or not!)
Hope this helps!

You can simply reply to emails through the mail client, it will send them from your mail2web account.
Just followed the instruction and got the push mail work perfectly, but some question to ask here, can i know what's the different between this setup and if I setup a pop mail with auto connect option enabled?
Pop mail will check mail at the intervals you specify.
Push mail keeps a data link open to the server and gets the mail as soon as it arives.

For the pushmail to work, does our phone require to be connnected to the internet either throught wifi or GPRS or other services offered by the mobile service provider?
Yes, it needs internet access.
GPRS is what it's designed to work with as this stays active while he phone is in standby. It will work with WiFi, but while the phone is in standby it will try to connect by GPRS if you have a connection available.
It could in theory work on a Bluetooth PAN with internet access, but I haven't tried this.
ok i have mail2web set up but push email is not working. I have a t-mobile MDA with the new T-Mobile US ROM (the t-mobile provided rom) and if i send recieve i get my email but so far i have not received a push email..... any thoughts..... directpush is green in the connection manager.....

Is it possible to push from two different servers?
I have been using gmail for a long time. My biggest complaint is that everytime I sync it deletes all of the information that was downloaded the last time I synced. Someone recomended mail2web.com to use as an exchange server which works great. I didn't know my wizard could do push mail. Now that it does I would like to download my work email and my gmail, but keep them seperate. Is that possible? If it isn't does anyone know of a pop or imap service that works better then gmail? Thanks a bunch.

In Gmail you can select the option of leaving a copy of your mail in Gmail account in Options.
I use mail2web.com with free live services and it work's well.
But i don't understand why deleted items folders and drafts folders are not sync. I've look at the activ sync stteings but i didn't found how to make those folfers sync. with my Tytn.
Is there some people that have those folders Sync. ?
Is it a limitation for free services at Mail2web ?

First of all you are wrong in that IMAP doesn't poll - it can use poll at intervals if you wish. IMAP IDLE is a pseudo push, and that is what you are thinking of, but it is still a form of polling in essence.
However, all of this is immaterial!
In the stock email client, when you set up a new account you enter your email address and password. At this stage, you could click next and it would set up your Gmail account as IMAP. However, if you click Manual Setup, you get 3 options:
POP
IMAP
Exchange
Select Exchange account and then enter the follow:
Domain\Username : [email protected] (or [email protected] if you are using GApps for Domains)
Exchange Server : m.google.com (for both regular GMail and GApps for Domains email)
Press Next, and then you get the option to change the "Email Check Frequency", which by default should be "Automatic (Push)".
Job done! True push on stock email client.

Dave

hi,
i have configured my gmail account in order to send emails using another identities.

it's correct or i'm wrong
Thanks for the info, I just set this up on my tab and I can use the account to send mail but it seems like it's not receiving; also when I click the sync button it says unable to connect to server. very strange.
Thanks. It work perfectly in my tab.

AWSOME!
just tested this on my tab i like the mail app a little bit better then the gmail IMO
so it seems I'm the only one getting this connection error when I attempt to setup gmail exchange on the samsumg email app =(
Has anyone tried this with more than one exchange server? When I try to add an exchange server, the exchange button is grayed out. I'm guessing it's because I already have a different exchange e-mail setup?
Edit: Interesting - I deleted my other exchange account and I'm getting the same "Unable to connect" to server error message everyone else is getting. I even changed the domain to Google (using some old knowledge I used to do something similar to this to sync my contacts with Google on my old Windows phone devices: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138636).
Any ideas?
I had set up several gmail exchange accounts, and they all worked. However i think that app is memory hog, it's slow, with buggy notifications and in the end i switched back to the standard gmail one. Did you notice that there isn't really any alternative email client on the market?

Thing is, the built in email client, even for gmail & even when I try it with pop3, just plain sucks. Also, I mainly use my hotmail account, which there isn't really an app for yet. So I have two things. 1. To find a much better email client for android. And 2. To find a way to get all my hotmail to my android. Now, I can fully access and export my entire hotmail account from inside outlook. But I haven't found a way to import pst's into android yet.

I see that you've gotten some good suggestions. I just wanted to tell you to avoid POP3 at all costs. It's a very primitive protocol and should really only be used as a last resort. Use at least IMAP.

Hotmail can be setup for push just like Exchange.
In the email app, tap Add Account, then put in your email address and password and then tap "Manual Setup"
Tap "Exchange Account"
Set the Incoming Mail Server: m.hotmail.com
Leave Domain blank
Set your username to your full @hotmail email address (i.e. include @hotmail.com or @live.com)
Enter your password.
Tap finish.
I recommend to use K9 mail. I use it with my 6 email adresses - 1 gmail, 1 imap and 4 pop3. As far I know hotmail does support pop3, so with K9 you should be able to check all your emails, including hotmail..
K9 is a very nice email client. I've used it for about a year now with imap.

It has an option for Pop, but when you choose it, it will come up with an error saying its not supported . I see there are workarounds with forwarding and such but not as clean.
Until I can sort out I am forwarding all my mail through Gmail which I can pull into the Surface
The email that is causing all this is roadrunner.com
I didn't have any issues setting up my pop3 account hosted with ipower
you may need update the build-in mail app in Windows Store to newest version.
its not only RT. The windows 8 mail app doesnt support pop...... yet.
That is a curious decision by Microsoft. I haven't used a pop account in at least three years so no big deal for me.

Windows Live Mail supports POP3, so there's a free alternative. I haven't used POP3 in a long time, except with my comcast account, which I don't need to check everywhere, but I do have it configured in WLM.
So, I just checked my Surface, and sure enough, it does NOT support POP mail accounts. It actually tells you right when you choose POP that it's not supported and requests you ask your provider to supply IMAP or Exchange accounts.
I bought the surface two days ago on the Microsoft Store opening on San Juan. I did it tomuse it more to work and the first think I did was try to installs my work email. It is a pop3 and I really can't believe is not working... this should be a business oriented tablet.
I tried the work around but I need when I replay an email to go with my work email, not my Hotmail account.
If some one know an app that do it please let me know.

The Mail app is generally complete junk for any non-EAS accounts. It literally would've been more fully-featured if they just ported over the Windows Phone 7.5 mail app (which supports POP3). IMAP support is horrendous (WP7's is also not great, but less atrocious), and lots of certificate-related issues.
Currently my main email account (IMAP) half-works-- sometimes emails load, but nothing sends (permanently stuck in outbox), and two other IMAP accounts don't work at all (doesn't accept the settings, which work fine on Outlook and WP7.5). Exchange accounts generally work fine.
The message they give you after you select POP3 might as well have a trollface on there.
I don't have the surface. But in add and remove, Windows companies, mail service, you need to check the pop protocol. I know my orders aren't as it is on the screen. But it's what I can remember.

That menu 1) doesn't exist in Windows RT and 2) even on Windows 8, it only affects Outlook, not the Metro Mail app.
I can't believe we are now a month after release of the Surface and still no POP3, or Mail program fix. On other forums and MS' own support forum, people are fuming about this stupid decision to ignore POP3 and people are returning. I know moit email providers have gone IMAP, but there are plenty of big ones who haven't yet and isn't MS all about customer choices.
Another thing - even in IMAP, if your SMTP outgoing server doesn't have SSL then you won't be able to send mail either. The only email I have that works is Gmail, and its the one I don't use much. Can't send business mail from my Surface.
I guess they want this thing to fail so they can upsell us all to the Surface Pro. . .
I am totally agreed. I read that MS push updates every second Tuesday of the month, so hopefully they fix it...

They'll get around to pop3, but is forwarding your mail to an imap account really a nuisance? You'll get all the advantages of imap AND the original pop account acts as a backup for all mail in case something goes wrong.

Yes it is - SMTP is broken too for some mail servers - I can't send a stupid work email with my real email address, which is IMPA on incoming.
Your response of get around to it sounds absurd a month after launch. Believe it or not some mail providers still do use POP3, and we shouldn't have to change our email to use the surface. Its things like this that will kill RT before it even gets off the ground.
News is that MS is already cutting back on production of the Surface - Here we go.
Ive been having issues for a very long time with Gmail and unfortunately any new update does not fix this. I use Gmail for multiple accounts and when i delete or try to move things into folders they keep appearing and i have to do it several times or log into a computer to get it to work.
I've tried several email apps, I need an app that will sync my outlook calendar to google calendar app and will work with exchange and other email platforms. I used to use aquamail, but it was bought by a cheetah mobile type of company. I hate Gmail, but it is the only app I have found that can do what I described above, have everything streamlined. Just the deleting and moving of emails is not reliable.
Any suggestions ?

My company email is based on gmail (business gmail) It works great with Nine. Nine cannot sync with general email because Google made some policy change back in 2013.

Specifically, they removed ActiveSync support from general accounts. It's still available for G Suite accounts though.

Not sure but I have the pro key. Maybe this weekend I'll try it one more time. Everything works except outlook. It has a lot of features as well.
It got bought by mobisystems awhile back. Make me wonder what changes they made. Are they shady like Cheetah mobile?
