All I get is a black screen from the shortcut, and nothing when run from the application.
I searched that up yesterday and found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5799963&postcount=1908
The fix worked for me, just download the reboot.zip and extract the reboot file into sdk/tools and follow the directions

Well i know many of you have done this but i havnt seen it posted in this thread so here it goes just in case. * Longer Process* but skips dealing with all the commands.
To get auto rotate browser without going through all the command process.
1. Download Koush auto rotate browser here, http://www.koushikdutta.com/2008/12/auto-rotate-for-android-browser.html.
2. Open the browser.apk file, I use winrar.
3. Copy all files from that zip.
4. Open any theme of your choice using winrar, goto app and open the browser.apk
5. Open the browser.apk in winrar and paste the files that you have copied from Koush's browser.apk
6. Save, Now you must autosign your update.zip by following this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3178676
7. Now put the update.zip that you just signed into the root of your sdcard.
7. Turn off phone and boot using home+power
8. Now hit alt+s to update, when finished reboot and walaah!
*This is for the people who are not comfortable using command prompt, works like a charm, has been tested on my phone using jf 1.31 rc30
? Has anyone els tried this and succeeded ?
Not understanding # 2, I went and downloaded the browser, it's an .apk not a zip file?
just fyi, the koush's browser does not need the odex file removed. it is just unnecessary, so why not remove it?
Edit your link for autosigning

ok- G1 newbie here- by theme you mean JF RC30/ADP1/RC8 etc?- YES is the answer to that-
now do i just zip the folder with the pasted files in it? Do i add it to archive? I did that, then chose RAR format and then changed name of file to Browser.apk. Is this correct?
crap! just realised i need java installed for this to work....... will try later..... still not sure if i did the rezipping procedure properly....
am i supposed to rename the "updated_signed.zip" file to "update.zip"?

Have you tried rebooting your phone after the update?
Well, I didn't before now, lol. Howerver, still a no go..
If his file is an apk, why can't you open the update, and replace the whole browser.apk file, then just resign it?
ill try it.
Has that worked for you?

Yes that's what I have done and its worked with all themes I have applied it to
I don't know why it wouldn't work for you, maybe your missing a step?
Me? i was just making a recommendation, i haven't tried it. Because he said to open the apk, and replace certain files.
I seem to be having that Sync Notification icon issue where it wont go away do to the friedstream app being deleted. Could someone please post the apk file for the Friendstream app? I would like to add it back as this is getting annoying to fix all the time. Thanks
apk is attached.
I tried to install but it said it couldn't install. Is there something missing from the file?
I have no idea; I don't know what you removed or replaced.

Put your FriendStream.apk in your android sdk tools folder then while in recovery type this into shell
Code:
adb push FriendStream.apk /system/app/FriendStream.apk
Dumb Question
What the heck is Friendstream anyway ??? Thanks.
Hello! I have been reading from this forum, and installing various android roms to the Nand - and so far, no problems. Right now I am using myn's latest warm donut build for my htc kaiser and it works awesome.
Problems started when I made up my mind that I wanted a custom boot screen.
I found one and downloaded it. It was called bootanimation.zip.
I tried searching everywhere on google on how I can copy(or push) this file to
/system/media or/data/media (depends on rom) and you should have your own working custom boot animation.

Is there a way to do this? I have tried copying the file to my sd card, then tried pasting it to system/media with astro file manager, but "paste" is disabled.
I am really new to this, and after hours of searching I found out it has something to do with rooting the phone, but none of the instructions I found worked
Could somone with more experience than myself tell me how I could do this? Sorry if this has been asked before - I did not find it. And as I said I am quite new so if I said something stupid, take it easy, ok?
Thank you for your help!
Instructions
1. Download bootanimation.zip
2. Put it on the root directory of your SD card
3. Open the terminal app and enter:
su
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
reboot
Click to collapse
After more searching, I found these instructions, on the forum itself (oops!) but they dont work.
It keeps saying "sdcard/bootanimation.zip": Permission Denied.

I am SURE I typed it right.
I tried this 10 times over, same result :S
Can anyone help?
Bootanimation.zip is an Eclair+ implementation. Warm Donut is a donut build and does not support this unfortunately.
Thank you for your reply! It was very much appreciated.
I was able to install Google Currents by manually adding the framework from the gapps zip normally used by CM7 and other roms.
I've included a View attachment maps-framework-kfire.zip modified zip (maps-framework-kfire) file with only the files you need. The files are in the folders necessary inside the zip. As we can't flash zips from recovery like other devices yet (that I know of) you'll have to put the files in manually. As this uses google services you probably need to have View attachment GoogleServicesFramework.apk installed already in your /system/apps directory (to do this if you haven't either install the market which will include this step or transfer the GoogleServicesFramework.apk there and chmod to 644 like the others below [do this before you reboot as it will be required])
1. Extract the zip file on your computer
2. Copy the extracted files to your device
3. Copy com.google.android.maps.jar into /system/framework via ADB or Root Explorer
4. Chmod (long hold select file in Root Explorer and select permissions) to 644 (owner read/write, group read, others read)
5. Copy com.google.android.maps.xml to /system/etc/permissions the same way
6. Chmod that file to the same permissions
7. Restart your Fire to allow it to recognize the new framework
8. Install this APK View attachment Google_Currents_1.0.apk
9. Open the app and select your Google account to continue
This should also allow any other apps to install that require this framework.
Works like a charm, thx a lot.
Good write up. Thanks.
works very well. Good instructions.
thanks

You rock dude!
done, thanks very much!!
did not work for me :-(
Followed the instructions the files are in the correct locations and the permissions are 644
When I try and install it just says not installed. Rebooted a couple times. The instructions did not seem to mention anything about the features.xml so I also tried adding that to /system/etc/ as well with 644 still no go :-( anyone else not get this to work or run into this then figure out the solution?

I accidentally included that file, I didn't need to use it myself. You could try connecting your Fire to your computer and run logcat to live view the console of the device. That's how I saw that this was needed in the first place.
Sorry, got it working, when I read the path /system/etc/permissions it wrapped in my browser and I only put the xml in system/etc so I had placed the file a level lower. So it was my bad. thanks for the info. So far I really like the app, had been using news360 but this seems a bit nicer even though its still early.

Instructions on editing the file to suit your needs:
1. Download & Install: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
2. Download my .zip file of the cleaner
3. Download Notepad++ - https://notepad-plus-plus.org/
4. Right click .zip file (OXYGEN354CB_CLEANER.zip) and go to 7-Zip > Open Archive
5. Meta-INF > com > Google > Android > updater-script
6. Drag updater-script to another location and right click it then > Edit with Notepad++
7. Remove anything from the script that you want to keep, the entire line (for example "delete_recursive("/system/app/Chrome");"
8. Once completed.. File > Save - Then drag the file back into the open 7-Zip archive and press 'YES' when it asks you copy the file to archive
I hope this helps someone, have a great day. Ask any questions you may have in the thread or whatever.

Try mount "system" in TWRP before you flash it.
Can we have this for latest beta 7. There's not even enough space left to let adaway add hosts file to the system.
