titanium backup?? - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

i am still alittle confused of what i found on the internet and maybe someone can help me understand it. titanium backup backsup apps and data but it only runs when rooted. If i root my phone all the apps get deleted. How am i supose to back it up if all my apps are gone??

You do it after you have all your apps redownloaded. MyBackUp pro could of backed up your apps before you rooted the device.
But the only way you can get them back is to nano back to your original, then you titanium backup and then flash the new rom.

Rooting your phone won't delete anything. Just don't flash another rom untill you install Titanium and backup all your apps.

Use MybackUp free.. It will take a little bit of time restoring your apps, but it will work.
Once you have a custom rom on your phone. Prefer 2.0d or dc 2.07.2, both close to a normal full rom. Then you can use titanium backup

I think you need to click "problems" in the titanium backup app and it will download the latest busy box.

i am sorry if i am asking to many questions this will probley be my last. in titanium backup i went into backup/restore and none of my apps are on there??

You need superuser.apk and busybox. Titanium will get busybox for you if you press problems.
Search "mercado79 superuser"

You have to have busybox on your phone. Do what i said and us mybackup the free one. Same thing but doesnt require root. Once you get a custom rom, then you can use titanium backup to back your stuff up. The roms will have all the needed apps to run titanium

and how would i get super.apk and would i just put it into the root of my sd card??

That is busybox 1.15.3
copy it onto your SDcard
get into your cmd prompt and ADB shell
copy/paste or type the following
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
su
mkdir /system/xbin
cd /sdcard
mv busybox /system/xbin/busybox
cd /system/xbin/
./busybox --install -s /system/xbin
I'm sure if you keep running into problems we'll all continue to spoon feed you answers, but please at least make an attempt to search the forums and google beforehand. Most of this stuff has been covered ad nauseum . When you are in the CDMA hero forum index, in the upper right hand portion of the forum you will see a button that says "search this forum"

I had problems with that flashable zip. [HACK] Kill Amazon MP3 Store Application

Even though I keep killing with Task Manager the Amazon MP3 Store application, it keeps coming back, how I can stop it from auto running all the time or even better to fully remove it from the phone ?, thanks
I fully removed it from the adb shell using rm -f. I think it's stored somewhere in /data/app. Anywais, just look for the apk and remove it.

Yep.
If you want to completely remove it, rm the apk, the related /data/data/.. folder, the related dalvik-cache object and remove it from packages.xml.
But for a quick removal just del the apk (and .odex if exists).
Or you could just get root manager from the market (paid app) which allows you to uninstall system apps
Can someone please explain to me why programs like the Amazon MP3 store come back after reboot each time I've deleted it. I've deleted it via Root Manager, android mate, titanium backup and all the other methods listed in this forum. Each seem to be rid of the files with out issue. Then I reboot ...and the program is BACK. Clearly there is something I'm missing when i reboot the system reverts back before I deleted it. I just want this sprint bloatware gone

Sounds like you're not mounting the file system for writing before trying to write (delete) to the file system.
Very interesting thought. I figured since I'm not familiar with these root file system programs yet I could easily have it set to read only instead of write but after some digging I do have the software set to allow write permissions. I found some posts regarding this deleted program respawning issue. the general consensus is its the systems NAND protection. Im going to work on disabling that and trying again. thanks for the great suggestion though.
tipe this on your termina without the quotes if you dont have a terminal get one at the market.
"su"
"mount -o rw,remount /system"
"rm -r /system/app/com.amazon.mp3.apk"
"pm uninstall com.amazon.mp3"
In root explorer I went in to /system/apps and deleted .com.amazon.mp3.apk. Is that fine or is there anything else I need to delete to uninstall it?

[FIX] Titanium Backup not working after S-OFF/Root

"After obtaining S-OFF and permanent root, I was still having trouble getting Titanium Backup to work.
Here's what I had to do to fix it:
I had used this to obtain temp root in the past: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1151735
Those steps had me create this directory: /data/bin/
Within that directory, I had sqlite, su, etc. so I simply deleted all the files in that folder, rebooted, and Titanium Backup now works!
I hope it helps everyone else."
This is straight from the Evo 3d Development Thread. Thanks go to Wiljitsu. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192452 I am posting it here in hopes of helping others.
You will have to use Root Explorer or the equivalent to delete these files. Or you could use the free way, execute "adb shell rm -r /data/bin/*"
Yup fixed it!!!
adb shell rm -r /data/bin/*

I haven't tried that. But the problem was not with Titanium Backup itself, it was with the location of the Su binary. Titanium is still going to look for the binary wherever it can find it. If the original is still present in /data/local/ or whatever else, then it will use that one. Once you delete it, it will then look for it elsewhere( in the xbin)

Did you temp-root your phone before? If you haven't, then you don't have the files that are causing the issue. This fix is for people who have.
I had temp rooted before finally s-off this morning.
So I had the TB Pro problem, by following the OP instructions I have access again to my backup program.

Mount /system with r/w permission:
mount -o remount,rw -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system
Then you'll be able to delete your system app
eg.: rm /system/app/Browser.apk
delete stock apps android

Hey thanks so much for the replies and help!! Unfortunately Hanisa i have no idea what that means so i'll have to do a lil' research on that
Thanx BazookaAce,XperienceD and Hanisa I thumbs u up
Root app remover removes only x programs for free, then you need to buy it.
The easiest method I found, was to download a root file manager program e.g. File expert.
Then mount system as R/W to be able to write to the directory ie. deleting files.
System apps is located in /system/apps.. start deleting.
Theres more pages online to check which apps to delete or more important, not to delete!
The apps on this tested safe and worked for me:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/10-2-final-lite-edition-made-by-you.4255/
Thanx csensitive! I have to do research since I dont know how to mount and use R\W Or maybe u just explained it...root file manager..

Did you go for File expert, which is free in market and has interface to mount R/W?
If you did:
1. Check the root option under settings to give it superuser rights
2. Mount R/W using Mount in the program interface
3. Press back until it says "if you press back again it closes sumthin) Here you are at the root of the phone.
4. Go to System and then app. Start deletin all the unuseful stuff.. delete the wrong stuff and you will break your system
No I went with Root Explorer, I really like the way it's laid out. I learned it well enough to change my boot animation a few times! Browsing through all the files a folders for a few days now. Also, leaned how to use Terminal Emulator. This stuff sure is fun! I found the folder that contains the info on the backlit keyboard and hardware buttons. I'm doing some research on how to get a code in there so I can control the brightness of those features. Could be out of my league though as I'm still too fresh to all this.
Its's not recommended to remove stock apps
I agree. If you delete the wrong ones you will end up,well, we all know the answer to that I've been using Titanium Backup to freeze the application first, but not before I find out what it is used for. I don't really want to say how much more responsive my phone is now,so I won't I would rather not jinx it!
Blue6lx made a rather exellent tutorial on what the apps are, and their applicable functions. Thanks so much to him!! That must have taken a long while to complete!
It is very thorough. I just saw it last night and am heading that way right now! Have a great day!
There's tons of stock apps thats not neccesary if you dont use them, ie. stock browser, sns client, samsung sync and so on. If you dont use the facebook app to sync, want another browser, dont use talk and so on, many of the apps just takes up space.
Many of them even run in startup as services/programs and uses RAM.
I removed about 30% of the stock apps, and could remove more if I wasnt afraid to break things
That's so true.
I deleted with success the following,
com.android.htcprofile
com.eamobile.bejeweled2_small
com.htc.android.netlogger
com.htc.socialnetwork.flickr
com.htc.Twitter3DWidget
com.netflix.mediaclient

Slacker 2.1.196
T Mobile TV 4.3.1.43.144294
TrimIt 1.6.8.110525
Zinio Reader 2.03.3312
That's it so far, any of the above mentioned have been frozen first using Titanium Backup and after not seeing any ill effects, deleted thereafter.
I believe titanium backup also can delete em, and easy to backup first.

[Q] Randomly lost busybox

I was playing with my TF101 earlier today and went to check Titanium Backup when I was given a surprise, I can't use it anymore. My tablet had been rooted since the day I got it nearly a year ago but somehow my busybox got uninstalled. I have not done anything that would cause it to be uninstalled, and when I try to install it again no program is able to. When trying to update the Su binary Superuser fails to gain root access as well, so something weird happened in the past few days (looking at my most recent Titanium Backups manually it seems it happened after 6/3, but I don't know why).
My first attempt to fix was re-flash the most recent Honeycomb-based Revolver update (3.11.1) and run "Fix Permissions" but that didn't help. I'm thinking the only way to be able to fix this is to do a wipe and re-install of everything, or even a new nvflash, but my most recent backup is months old (I'd been travelling and not messing with ROMs so I didn't have a need for a backup).
Does anyone have suggestions as to what else I can do before I try and do a wipe/install?
Thanks
In terminal, does "which su" and "which busybox" return anything?
How about "ls -l /system/*/su" and "ls -l /system/*/busybox"
You probably have 2 versions and one is not does not have the su id set.

I tried running it in "Android Terminal Emulator" but for some reason it doesn't work anymore, it loads and then auto closes... so I did it in "System Tuner"s terminal emulator.
I ran both and got "Failed to run: Error running exec(). Command: [which, su] Working Dierctory:null Environment: null"
How about "ls -l /system/*/su" and "ls -l /system/*/busybox"

for both of these i get "No such file or directory"
I honestly have no idea what is going on because this last week I used it as a netbook while travelling Korea and for the 4 months prior I haven't been able to access the internet regularly so I haven't been playing around with CWM, flashing new roms, etc. I think the newest apps I've installed were mixi (like Facebook, but Japanese), Skype, and Temple Run, none of which require root access.

Don't do the wipe yet, just use Recovery to reinstall the same ROM and it may help. It maybe related to kernel or /system/bin or /system/xbin (or even etc).
I tried reflashing the most recent Revolver Honeycomb update (3. 11.1) but it didn't help, still have the problem.
Re-manually install busybox and SU using the superuser.zip that's flashable in cwm, then Install SuperSU and update binary with that. Should fix all issues, I prefer SuperSU to superuser since it doesn't glitch as much. xD

I will give that a try, as soon as I can find the superuser.zip file in question. I googled for it, and looked on XDA but I can't seem to locate it. Could you help point me in the right direction?
I re-thought about what tingtan said and I realized that just an update wouldn't necessarily have everything needed so I found the most recent full ROM and flashed it followed by the update and it looks like things are fixed.
I'd still like a link to that superuser.zip file for the future, but now I can backup and I might try playing with ICS now.
Superuser.zip link: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
I prefer SuperSU though, all preference.

flash touch cwm and su for root, install titanium backup app from playstore(paid version lets u freeze apps), make a backup of ur rom using touch cwm and use restore from cwm when u muck it up.
titanium items in red r system files, u should leave those alone. use search parameters "debloat bloatware apps android -insert here ur version and carrier-". and read my sig, really do what my sig says and u should b fine
you keep telling to search and you guys don't even read the question....I'm not gonna instill su....I need to do it recovery and adb...do you know how to answer this question without a plain answer"search"?

I do not believe that you can accomplish what you want without rooting your phone at least temporarily. I used google to search for remove apps with adb and the first link that showed up states:
su (Login as root)

as the second step. You just can't remove system apps without root access AFAIK.
Another search of the Skyrocket section of XDA would turn up this thread about what can be removed safely.
So the answers you received may not have been what you wanted to hear, but they appear to be accurate and weren't that hard to find.
I would recommend rooting, using Titanium Backup to freeze/remove what you consider bloat/unwanted and then un-rooting if you are concerned about leaving your phone rooted.
Use google to search the XDA forums when the forum search is down or doesn't return usable results.

No I can if I have the "safe list" to remove ... CWM recovery is by itself when loaded is like "su"
using "adb root" and "adb shell" then navigating to /system/app after mounting /system and using the command "rm blahblah.apk"

Gee - did I just flunk a test? If you knew the answer why start a thread?
Of course I (possibly) learned something today - I think you are saying that the kernel that CWM boots with allows root access? So the phone/device does not itself have to be rooted?

At least when I was using and modding my Nexus S and yes , I did all the mods using just cwm recovery , I don't root(don't ask me why) .... I needed somebody to confirm the method if he/she tried it before , and what was their impressions
vincom's advice was good.
titanium backup is really good and works. i'm a real n00b and search really does save the hassle of having to type your question.
even after i soft bricked my phone, i didn't post any panic threads. i just read and read and read and read until i found a good solution. don't be scared homie.
Cleaned all the nonsense. Keep it on topic. If you know the method to do it why ask the question, or why not ask or search for list of bloat apps? On a side not If the kernel is rooted, then your phone is as well and you just need the app, wich can be removed just as easily.
Cheers
