Skyfire for Android (Beta) - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

Here is a beta for Skyfire: Android does not have flash, it wudve been nice though, Enjoy!
Skyfire is a downloadable, free mobile browser that gives you a Web browsing experience exactly like PC browsing.
Did not see it posted here, Be Safe!
* Mod EDIT *
Please refrain from posting Alpha/Beta versions of Skyfire as we will be required to remove them as per Skyfire's request.
Appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

thanks for the upload

so is this as good and fast as opera mini?

Awesome, I notice it doesn't compress as much as Opera(pictures look better) but it still renders pages very quickly. Thanks for sharing!

Oh cool. I used Skyfire on my Windows Mobile phone before; it's an impressive browser. Going to try it out, thanks!

so whats the verdict guys? im in love with opera at the moment so not sure if ill use this?

I could not get videos to play

Extremely slow for my liking I will stick with opera

Yes! How's flash player?

lol he specifically said that no flash on android yet

Everyone is saying they use opera. Is it really that much better than the stock app? I tried opera a while back (like in october or november) and found it buggy, awkward, and basically unusable. Especially the bug with not being able to see what's being typed. Has it really improved past the flawless stock internet app?

Opera is amazing right now, trillion times better and faster

Seems really fast to me. The image quality is the best I have seen in a browser so far.

I have loved Opera Mini so far. It has been super fast, however here are some things that bother me and I wonder if there are workarounds.
1) When I click a link in a text, email, etc. I never have an option to open it with opera.
2) I can't find a way to put any Opera bookmarks on my homepage. I like to have a few bookmarks I can just click on for the few pages I visit often. Some type of widget would be even better.

All I got were fc's when I tried to run it

I know that... I mean that this is rendered server-side, for the purpose of showing flash. Otherwise, what's the point?

Hello to those on this thread. We appreciate the interest in our latest product for Android.
The early alpha version of our product that is being circulated is unauthorized and has been purposely disabled from connecting to our cloud service. Hence the controls are there, but without our server-side connection, the video and other functionality won't work. So if you think you have it working, you surely do not as all the key functionality that defines it as a Skyfire product has been disconnected.
Don't worry, you won't have to wait long as we will soon be launching the product for the public.

SkyFire Browser Beta... Fully loaded PC desktop Mobile Browser

Engadget did a small feature on this really wicked awesome looking browser. It has the Kaiser featuring this browser. You can find that article here:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/28/skyfire-browser-for-windows-mobile-is-game-changing-does-flash/2#comments
You can sign up for the private beta here: http://www.skyfire.com/sign-up I suggest yall don't wait to long signing up as who knows how long this will be open.
Oh and so you dont wonder I didnt have a beta code and I signed up. I got this email back from them, "Thank you for signing up for the Skyfire private beta program. We will notify you when the beta version of Skyfire mobile web browser is ready for a test drive. We look forward to your feature suggestions, troubleshooting tips and ideas. Even with the early beta release, you'll be browsing the web on your phone just like you do on your PC."
I hope we dont have to wait to long for the actual ability to download this broswer looks cool.
OH and FYI:
From their Privacy Policy:
"Once you have subscribed to and begin to use the Browser, we will collect information about your use of the Browser on your Device (“Browser Usage Information”). Browser Usage Information includes such information as which websites and programs you access or download on your Device, how long you visit such websites and use such programs, your activities (such as products purchased or advertisements viewed) on such websites, which specific areas of a website or webpage you use and for how long, websites you bookmark, search terms you use, referring/exit pages, browser and platform types, the geographic location in which your Device is being used and information you provide on third party websites. All of your Browser Usage Information is stored by Skyfire under an automatically generated, random identification number (“ID Number”) that will not be associated with or linked to your Personal Information. Please be aware, though, that your Browser Usage Information, when viewed in the aggregate, may reveal your identity even if it is not associated with or linked to your Personal Information."
In other words, when you use our browser, we track everything you do, and assign an "anonymous" ID number to that information. And oh, by the way, the "anonymous" ID number may be linked to your identity.
I got the message on my phone tonight to load the SkyFire beta and I did. It is indeed very quick and responsive. One the plus side, it gives the entire page formatted in the shape of the screen. When you tap something to expand it, however, it seems to expand around the spot you touched, so in some texts the borders go out of the screen. Opera mini seems to expand but also format things a bit at the same time. Zoom is limited to two steps, in and out. Overall, pretty good impressions so far, and it does not seem to interfere with any other programs.

this browser still has a ways to go, but it's a great 1st step.
it definitely has a ways to go. feels slow & unresponsive to me. plus it's server side rendering through a proxy and i don't want them to know if i'm looking at bigbootybutts.com or tracking my experience to target ads at me. I'll wait for the new opera.
wow. and it can play YouTube videos all by itself. not that I care, but I am amazed.
its a pretty nifty little browser
Hm anything about the "autorization problem"?

opera mobile 10 apk

i know it was just announced but has anybody gotten the app yet? its supposed to be going out to carriers and oem's, not us consumers(yet). im hopoing someone leaks it quick! or does someone already have it? if so please share
really? were? site? >_> I DONT BELIVE YOU lol
http://www.androidcentral.com/opear-mobile-available-android-you-cant-have-it-yet
somebody has to leak it 1!!!1
apparently chances of that are low... but!!! now theyve announced that opera mini 5 is coming soon!!! anybody have that yet??
I was using Opera Mini 5 beta on WM6.1 and it was good, but it felt a bit too mobile. Every page I went on was loading in mobile mode, an sites with flash never loaded properly for me. I had a slide out keyboard, and I am sure it was a beta issue, but it was forcing me use the on screen keyboard. It was decent, but on a 2.8in screen felt very cramped. Opera 10 beta on the other hand loaded a bit slower to start up and web page loading was noticeably slower. However, web pages loaded more normal for me. That was on WM6.1 on a decently speedy device, on Android things could be a whole different story.
well i think either one, will be the best browser for android so far. mainly i like it because of that amazing speed in loading pages! even 4.2 is fast and i'd use that except the UI is horrible...
Opera mini5 (beta) was the best browser while I was using winmobile devices!
The interface was clever, the way it handled tabs was genius, it was sooo damn fast and the fact that you could go back in your browsing history without the browser reloading the page from the scratch was damn useful. I so hate that on the android browser (well, on actual browsers in general).
I'm really looking forward to the android-version but I'm afraid it won't support the hardware-keyboard of my G1 =(
So, is there any compelling reason to use Opera Mobile 10 over the Android browser? Will HTC flash work with Mobile 10? I can see a reason to use Mini 5 as that is a fast browser, and is fairly light. However, I can't see any reason to use Mobile 10 other than preference.
Well, if Opera 10 should support a double-tap to zoom feature I will for sure use it over the android one. I absolutely dont like those 2 zooming buttons floating all over the content which only appear once I start scrolling.

Sorry not to get ot, but we took care of the stock browser a long time ago, check it out: WWW.forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551119
To the op, this does look like it might be pretty nice, how ever always been happy with the modded stock, or a hero browser. Any idea on what phone is gonna have this as oem firest?
Opera 10 for android looks amazing. if you watch the video preview of it. Right now the best browser for android is the Dolphin Browser though. .. ooh and windows mobile people.. Skyfire is the only way to go.
Which video are you referring to?
Maybe I am not really getting it but what advantage does Opera Mobile have over the Android browser? I loved Opera on my WM device and I can understand using it based on preference. However, with the Android browser working the way it does, isn't it a bit redundant? Or again maybe I am not getting it?

The browser has better support for CSS/HTML/JavaScript...
You can see the differences between the browsers on:
http://www.quirksmode.org/m/css.html
and
http://www.quirksmode.org/m/table.html
Please note that the Nokia E66 browser matches the new Opera 10 beta the most. The other version is 9.5 which is already a year old. I'm really waiting for a Opera 10 release on android, since the android browser has some shortcomings when you want to create mobile websites (I shall spare you the details).
I guess I will have to try it out when it comes outs to see the differences. It's to bad they don't add the proxy features of Opera Mini on Mobile.
is it out yet?! :[

its the speed!!! look do this
go to the market and download the current opera mini 4.2
once installed get a timer or something and go to any website(including this one if you want, just make sure you go to exactly the same page)
time it
now go to the same page with the android browser.
you should see a HUGE speed difference. im not exactly sure how opera does this, but i heard once it has something to do with a compression method that opera uses that makes pages load very quickly!
all in all, i have no idea how opera does it, i just know that its FAST. and definitely faster than the android browser. i really dont care that its opera i just care abuot that speeeeeed!
Yes, I agree about Opera Mini, but I am referring to Opera Mobile.

well supposedly also opera mini is made for any mobile phone? i think. but opera mobile is made spcifically for more advanced smartphones. like you cant use opera mobile on some cheapy flip phone. but you probably could use opera mini on it. i THINK. im probably wrong or idk i dont really care i just want a better browser than the slow android one. either that or the faster 3g from tmobile.. but i think even then the browser would still be slow..
Having tried alot of different browsers through the span of my cell phones I believe Opera Mini is the fastest but it may have to do with the mobile view of the websites.
Dolphin is also very good.. I like that its theme able and its relatively fast.
I'm also anxious in the official release of Opera Mobile 10... it will have other features and will be most likely fix the problem of opera mini loading pages as mobile and not full version as in a desktop or laptop would display.

Opera Mobile 11...good

This browser is definitely better than default browser. Fast, flash support, and it gets 100% on acid3 ( http://acid3.acidtests.org ) test.
Finally, I found a right browser for Galaxy Tab.
I have to agree for the most part. Its definitely much faster and smoother than anything else I've tried. I would classify it as the best if they would implement an exit button and different fonts.

For people using Dolphin HD, how does it compare to Opera? I've just gotten used to Dolphin and I would prefer not to have to learn the interface of a new browser...
Tried Miren and Skyfire and didn't like them, but may want to give Opera a try.

Dolphin HD was my primary browser, but now Opera Mobile is. The changes are significant but very welcome and easy to get used to. In fact it enhances the experience in my opinion, but there are issues. For one, it needs an exit button and there are some strange font issues when playing flash video. It also needs a way to import and export bookmarks. Even after those shortcomings, browsing is quite fast and very enjoyable. But this is just my opinion. It costs you nothing to try this out so give it a shot. You might like what you see.....or not.
I would highly recommend Firefox mobile (Version 4)
It supports all of the above and has multiple-language support (such as Arabic/Hebrew and other non-latin RTL characters) and one of my favourite features is that it keeps all of your settings, your bookmarks and even your open tabs synced with your desktop or anywhere else you're running Firefox v4

It doesn't support flash yet so that's a deal breaker for me. I'll revisit it when flash works. Hopefully it will become as good as the desktop version.
T-Mobile tab running latest Overcome
I tried Firefox 4 as well, because I like it.. In principle. The result after synchronizing everything was that it took more than 1.6GB (reported by the OS in My Apps). I then unchecked history sync, and it came back to a few megabytes over (aka around 86MB), but it then stopped bringing my bookmarks over from the desktop. It's also rather slow in operation (compared to it, Opera is blazing fast).
That said, I'm looking forward to the next release, so far it has been going in the right direction. JavaScript performance in Firefox is stellar, the real speed problem is with page rendering, but it has been getting better. It's still a decent browser though, and it compares well to the stock one (juuuuuuust a bit slower, but with add-ons and lots of goodies)

Opera called that Opera link. Syncs bookmarks, notes, quick dial. Open tabs... nope, but that would've been a deal breaker for me since on the desktop version I usually need at least 500 mb just to open Opera lol. It's a feature that's been there for quite a long time now.

Was using Dolphin HD too, but I just tried Opera Mobile 11 and I kinda love it. And it's free!
I am still sticking with skyfire. Fast, supports flash. Opera performs poorly on symbian mobile.
I've found Opera to run silky smooth on my tab, except for youtube. They look absolutely terrible, stuck in ultra low res mode or something. Only flaw with the browser.
Annoying as hell regardless.

Opera mobile 11 = WOW!

I've installed the new version of opera (opera mobile 11) and it is so much smoother and faster than everything else I've tried.
It is just amazing how they improved scrolling and zooming...I was using dolphin mini before, but there is just no comparison.
I wonder if they implemented some kind of hardware acceleration.
Info:
to set up opera to load pages with a "desktop view":
enter opera:config in url bar
go down to "user prefs", enter
find "Custom user-agent"
fill the blank part with:
"Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; U; en-US) Presto/2.7.62 Version/11.01"
go down and save
restart opera or reboot
EDIT
to solve cyanogenmod 7 flash crashes:
go to settings, apps, manage apps, select adobe flash, move to sd card
"Opera/9.80 (Linux; en) Presto/2.7.81 Version/11.00" is good also...maybe faster??
enjoy
I may have to give it a try.
Does text/field input still take you to a new window rather than let you populate the field on the page?
+1 The new Opera 11 is fantastic! The new version of mini is excellent too. I have both installed and I use Opera 11 primarily but if I have low signal where bandwidth may be an issue, I use Mini instead since its much faster in those cases.
Either way, both browsers are super smooth to scroll and zoom and are much nicer than any other browser I've tried for Android.

You have to take a look at the Opera Mobile Browser.
It scrolls super fast on Xda and has a really nice UI. Unfortunately it doesnt support Flash for Tablets yet... But I guess there will be an update soon
The problem with Opera is that it is proxy-based. Meaning that what you're actually getting is a pre-rendered site off Opera's own servers. This limits a lot of functionality especially with Javascripting.
I personally prefer HC's own brower simply due to Chrome bookmark syncing.

You're thinking of opera mini. Opera mobile can also do this if you have turbo enabled in the the browser settings. Also, flash does work in Opera mobile. You can set it to on demand just like the stock browser. The main thing about oepra mobile that I don't like is the tabbing system. It works fine for small screens, but for a tablet, I wish it would do tabs like the stock browser.

Again, Opera Mini != Opera Mobile. Those are two different apps. Opera Mobile is the full featured browser, and Opera Mini is the one that opera sends compressed pages to make the browser go faster. Opera Mobile is a full featured browser that is compatible with flash, and also has turbo mode where it can act like mini.
EDIT: Links. Notice the size difference between the two <1mb vs 13mb. I think the tablet one is even 20mb
Opera Mini
Opera Mobile

Yeah, you don't want turbo enabled. Maybe you're just on a mobile version of these sites. The google auto complete works fine on mine. Also, flash works fine too. Flash settings are under advanced. If it is set to click to play, there should be a gray play icon when there is some flash on the site.
One thing you can do to get it to always show desktop versions of sites is type opera:config in the url and click enter. Then go to user prefs, and put "Opera/9.80 (Linux; en) Presto/2.7.81 Version/11.00" (without the quotes) in the custom user agent box, and click save.
Has the adblock addon EVER worked for Dolphin??
