Question for 2 apps. - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

I am going to flash a new rom shortly. I have a need for two apps if they are out there.
1. I have my phone completely set up with my favorite people, internet favorites mail settings etc. what program will back up all of them and make for a easy transition to a different rom?
2. I have all my contacts on my sim card and through outlook. Id like to back up the contacts from the sim then delete them from the sim card. ( my other phones are Android based.) Is there an app for that?
thanks in advance.

pim backup seems to work quite well on backing up mail setup and contacts incl fav people.
not sure about internet favorite... back it up manualy just in case (ie copy the fav folder)
cheers

Best free PIM back up for contacts!!!!!!

This is a great little app for all winmo devices, its called XML Backup, best of all, its free. If you, like a lot of other people here at XDA, like trying new ROMs and apps that cause you to hard reset, then this app is for you!
Install the cab. find it in your programs list, start the app and then it will ask you if you want to back up or restore. For first time users, back-up your contacts list to your memory card (as so it won't get erased), you must press destination folder! Create a folder called "Phone Back-up" or what ever you want to call it, go back to your XML Back-up app, back-up your contacts to the newly created folder, press select all, then start! You're done! Now you can re-flash to your hearts content and never have to worry about losing all contacts again!
Even better PPC PIM Backup, this does all your messages as well as contacts.
Personally, I don't see a need for saving messages. If anything, being able to save 300+ contacts is enough for me! But, PPC Back-up PIM is a really good app aswell, my preference lies in XML Contacts
For me its the ability to retain SMS conversations over a ROM flash that means i have gone the way i have. My contacts are saved on-line anyway as I have a mail2web acount that does OTA sync of all the PIM data.
Just remembered PIM Backup also does your calendar, which again i don't need, see above, but others might.
I'm not going to dispute the fact that there are but apps for PIM back-up! I have tried some of them, but, XML is simple and easy! 'm sure as you know, the more stuff you keep on your phone, the more memory it uses and seeing as how I enjoy having as much free memory as possible, just keeping my contacts backed-up is fine!
For the newb's and the faint of heart, XML is a lot easier to work with and my personal choice for PIM back-up!

try vufone.com - syncs contacts, calendar, messages, pictures, videos and music to the web.

Dashwire does the same thing, but, it can also send text msgs from your pc/laptop for free! I tried it out for a bit, decent app, but, stays active in the backround, therefore, killing your battery!

Diamond 2:Unable to Recover Contacts

Hi,
I had close to 300 contacts on my mobile until I got a new ROM update for Europe based HTC Diamond 2 systems. Once when I applied these changes, it wiped out all of my contacts with no trace...
I tried searching for options where I can store my contact details to my memory card but I couldnt find one option.
Can someone please help me as well as provide any other new alternatives to make sure that I dont loose my contacts the next time when I update my mobile...
Any help will be greatly appreciated...
Hey there,
Forget about trying to store contacts in other places, the best thing you can do before updating your phone in anyway is either backup your entire system using a good backup software such as Sprite Backup, or SPB Backup but this should NOT be used if changing ROMS.
What i always do is use PIM backup before a rom change. This free app backs up your contacts, emails etc and is simple to use and virually fool proof. I have enclosed the zip file for you, its a stand alone app, so just copy it to your programs folder or storage card and create a shortcut in your programs folder. (Thanks to its creator, such a brilliant app!)

SIM contacts in Phone.

Hello people
with my touch cruise I have a small but annoying problem.
I have all the SIM contacts in the phone together with the normal contacts and this creates double contacts.
I have tried to modify the register HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Control Panel / Phone --> Show Sim from 1 to 0 and this works great only in the contacts.
When I access the phone and look for contact by using the Smart Diealing, I continue to have double the contacts that is very annoying.
Is there any work around to solve this issue ?
thanks for helping

Only way around this known to me is to delete contacts from SIM.
Which, IMHO, is not a bad thing - SIM is very limited regarding data it can store for each contact. And you will regulary make backups/syncs, right?

Yes. U R right but the SIM is the only safe back-up I have.
Anyhow I will follow your suggestion. The risk is worth .
It remains a silli limitation for a mobile so advanced and with a SO on board.
Thanks for the assistance.

Regarding SIM being only backup.... you do have SD card in your Polaris?
I'm using PIM Backup (scheduled) to auto-backup daily all contacts, messages and tasks to my SD card. Then you only have a matter of copying those backups to your PC, CD, DVD... whatever...
It's freeware and fits my needs for unattended backup.
Of course, I do also have a sync with Outlook...
Thanks for the suggestion. I will follow this.

Q: Lost all my contacts with faulty backup, need them back

Hey guys, so I decided I wanted to flash a new ROM, to try it out and stuff. When i completed the backup of my original ROM, i used ROM manager, and thought that it was ok, so I flashed the new ROM, wiping out all my data, including my contacts. Now these contacts, I had only saved them to my phone, not my SIM card, but was planning on doing so, but since I had gained the contacts 2 days before, I didn't think too much on it. Bad idea. The MD5 from my old backup with all my contacts was never created, so I no longer have the ability to back up to the file. So now i'm here, and I'm wondering, is it possible to access the Data file that was created when I made the backup, since only the MD5 is gone, and access the contacts saved on it? Thanks again!
It's default for your phone to backup your contacts to your Google account. Did you disable that? If not then you still have them all.
always backup your contacts when working on your phone I think it's the most precious part of my phone and always have a backup of it and as for getting it back like mentioned should be on your google account
Tried that already, no dice, i never disabled it, so no idea >_< I found the contacts app in my old backup that I made today that didn't have the MD5, but when i transferred it into a different backups system.tar, it stayed at the front of the folders, so i couldn't transfer them into the system folder itself.
Just copying the app itself won't do anything. Have you logged onto your gmail account (on a PC browser) and checked your contacts?
Yup, no dice, nothing there. As a note, i have no way of contacting these people other than this number, sooo ffffff-
That's bizarre. I've found the automatic syncing of contacts and what-not to be nothing less than magical! Sorry it doesn't help in this case - hopefully someone will be able to tell you how to extract the data from the ROM image that you have. Good luck.
Thanks, as a note, my old ROM was Juggernaut 5.0

[Q] Complete Contact Backup

I've been looking around for this, and have used the search tool. Unfortunately i havent found an adequate answer, so many someone can help me. To begin this post, i am using a phone i purchased off a friend. He has contacts in the phone that i also use, and are not backed up anywhere. I have many contacts, and instead of only selecting a few that i use, i'd rather have them all backed up. The problem is, under my Phonebook (Using an HTC Droid DNA) i have contacts from many locations. Twitter, SIM, Outlook, Hotmail, Google, Phone, Facebook, and another Hotmail. 2600 exactly. I'd like to have them all saved under one location. If i cannot migrate them, thats fine. WIth using a new ROM, all the contacts fail to reload.
So what i am looking for is a few things, and possibly a way to migrate them all. When using multiple apps, only about 700 backup. I do not know which contacts are backed up, and that is my problem. When using a new ROM, i seem to lose the Phone contacts, because with all the other accounts, i can log back in and have them restore.
Is there an app that lets me choose individual contacts to back up as well as selecting them all?
Phone - HTC Droid DNA - Stock ROM
If you guys need other information, i am glad to give it. Thanks.
The problem is that those contacts from other services are not technically saved onto your phone, which is why they are showing up from different locations. You can always use a Cellebrite machine to backup all the contacts on your phone. This is the same device used by cell phone stores to transfer contacts to new devices. Another alternative is that you can try syncing your contacts with Google, which should store all of your phone's contacts onto your google account, eliminating the need to backup your contacts.
