So, in DC 2.07, Android Wallpapers reappeared, hurrah! But in 2.07.2, they are gone again.
Is there an APK or something I can install to get these back? I really like them a lot better than the HTC wallpapers, and I can't seem to find anything in searching the forums. Maybe nobody cares about them as much as I do...
This isn't exactly what you were asking for, but I think it's kinda neat anyway.
These are the default Android wallpapers, except that they might actually be the original photos themselves. If you click on one and choose "all sizes" you can download huge versions of each. From there shouldn't be much work to resize them to 640x480 (and crop as needed, if needed at all).

Here's the deal–I'm a graphic designer who found myself sans job, and have been looking to do some different kind of work to keep from going insane. I have thought about trying to prog my own apps, but java is still a bit over my head. So if there are any devs that could use some design work for apps, wallpapers, or whatever, PM me and we'll go from there. Right now, im thinking this service would be free of charge...

I agree with pushing the Android standard forward. Some of the best apps out there look like total trash.

Preach on brother. AND it really pisses me off that having a grid of rounded rectangle icons with reflections is seen as the pinnacle of mobile design today.

Suggestion: make mock-up's of some popular apps with better layout and post them. You may get some attention and create a buzz.

AH! Thats a superb idea. I have a couple in mind, but does anyone have any requests they want to see in particular?

This depends on how far you are looking to go. Just icons, full UX?
Perhaps a mockup of a file browser (root explorer for example) would be a good start. They are all quite rudimentary in layout/design but most function well.
Again, this depends on what aspect of design you are talking about.

Ah nice.
I would definitely overhaul a client app that has a TON of downloads in the market. Most devs have zero understanding about layout, nor do they care. File browers/explorers, chat clients, irc clients, etc are all big time offenders.
Just look at the top downloaded free apps and go for one that you actually use. By selecting one you use, the flow through the app is something you are familiar with and fixing/redoing the experience becomes personal and understood.
That's how I would go about it anyways

This is a key part, IMO. Great advice from deprecate.
Also, FYI - I just wanted to let you know that your portfolio is very impressive. As a fellow UI designer, you've got some skills.

Hey, thx for the kind words. Sometimes you can forget what you have accomplished inn the past when times are tough.
I just know that I've used the great stuff you guys have made, and I really want to give back to the community. Since I cant prog worth a damn, graphics is gonna have to be it.
I hope you are able to do some work with Android developers. They really need it.
Get the AppAware app to check out what is most popular and make som mock-ups of those. I'm thinking Twitter (though there are a couple of good ones), RSS reader, Dialer, File explorer, Media player (podcast streamer, video player, youtube! oh good it
s so baaad). Or you could make a base interface that can be used on several different apps.
Right now, I'm looking at Andchat with zer0day. When/if we find an improved layout for him,I'll post it up like I did with the Pandora concept.
How about looking into Meta Morph and theming?
Since everyone wants their phone to look different than the next guys!
You could do some theming of your phone, post screen shots, and get some more buzz that way.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.
I'm a UX designer and am willing to help.
Graphic designer + Dev + UX designer = great software
Hi,
been searching a couple of hours now and can only find apps like 'Photo Frame Deluxe' (ie. paid apps from the US Market). I don't live in the US and have Android on my HD2 so it's not native, therefore I cannot get this app (I don't get how to install market enabler). Anyone know a good widget (prefferably simple) that simply fills out my 800x480px screen in one of the home screens with one image?
I have this awesome background, though I want an image on one of the homescreens alone, and that's not possible of course, without it being a widget.
Going mad here. Is it perhaps simple to create an app like that? Can it be semi-transparent? Can it be without a background, so that the image decides the images transparency? Hmm..
If anyone makes an app like this maybe I'll even be willing to make a donation for it (after next wednesday when my paycheck appears, and the app will not have to be made until that, of course)
Not sure if this is what you are looking for but have a look at Big Photo Frame Widget v1.0

You can resize it with LauncherPro. I just started using it (cool app, thanks) and re-sized it to only 3 rows, rather than 4.

Pleased you found it useful too.
Just got the TF, love it to bits.
Sounds a bit daft but how do you make a wallpaper fit??? I've download a few that look really when seen on other TF's but when I select it on mine you get that box to adjust then the image seems blown up and looks rubbish given its resolution!
Not sure if it matters but running 3.2 stock, dont have root. Have tried wallpapers from here and 4walled and tried different size images.
Sorry if this has been answered a million times! i tried looking but searching the term 'wallpaper' on here = nightmare!
cheers

wallpaper wizardrii is the only app that will help you. Its free on the market and its free. Simply choose the wallpaper and select the option scrollable for best results.
Note:
This still crops images slightly, but is far. far better than setting wallpaper via gallery.
Give me thanks if this helped you out. I use it all the time
I've used it, very nice app, but still the quality is not that good.
can u give me some wallpaper to test it?
think i've got it sorted. using multi live wallpaper and it works spot on.
just cant get it to display a different pic per screen as it probably should

Just go into Multi setting, add individual setting (depend how many screen you have) on each setting you go in and choose folder picture (you should create a folder for each screen) and choose the path.
hope that helps

Not true. I have all jpg's and they display perfectly.
Rooted my Fire and installed CM7. I am trying to install wallpaper but i cant get the size figured out. When i go to set the jpg as the wallpaper it is making me draw a box around an area and the box is smaller than the jpg. The wallpapers that come with CM7 work and look great, but i cant figure out the size of the screen for wallpapers i want to make. Thanks
Something like 960x800 (default Zedge wallpapers size) worked for me.
Take a look on that pack.
Around 40 wallpapers from there, simply chosen by me.

I will give it a try
can you get the zedge app on the amazon app market?
Can't tell you, I'm on CM7.
Try simply search for "Zedge" or if you can't get it through Amazon, try to sideload it. Apk for you is right here.
The app is free, so nothing criminal, I think.
It looks like the wallpaper size is actually 1024x600
I'm having an issue installing wallpapers. I'm trying to pull them from my gallery but it keeps re-sizing.
Is there some trick to keeping the original size?

This appears to be the same problem i am having. The gallery is making me re-size the pic.
Same thing for me it forces me to resize and the quality turns to crap
No luck. I tried .jgp and .png files. Tried all kinds of different sizes and it still makes me crop it......
Have this problem with Gallery too.
Only option now for me is 960x800, at least looking not so low-res.
I tend to stick to very simple Live Wallpapers or none at all due to how fugly any image file tends to look
anyone come up with a solution to this problem yet?
this stupid problem ... I too annoying.
I just set wallpapers through PicSpeed Wallpapers. When it asks you to resize, pick the portrait box and it looks good
Sent from my Samsung Fascinate on the XDA app
If you search google for a wallpaper that is 2048x1600 or something huge like that and use it on CM7 it works out looking great, at least it did for me.

You can do this with WallBase. make sure whatever wallpapers you want(whether they be from your pc or downloaded on to your Kindle) are in the "saved" folder of the "WallBase" folder. You don't even have to resize it. It also keeps all the images high res.
I'm still tweaking these (landscape mode is a wreck) and I have zero idea how to upload these in an easily manageable way.
Let me know if you're interested in more or have any suggestions.
If people actually want the folders to add to their BW data folder while I work out the kinks, let me know and I'll post them.

they look nice, but i think it would be better if they were all one color like the silver ones
I've already tried the single-color thing, it doesn't really look good on anything other than grey/silver.
I'll have a ton more colors as I work the kinks out.
This one's a bit better, imo.
More ICS-looking, whatever that means.

Once I get the landscape mode tuned-up I'll post them all.
The clocks look amazing I hope I can download them soon.
I think I'm done tweaking, now I have no idea how to package it as a "skin" (settings and all...)
Once I get it figured out, I'll post packages.
In the meantime, here's the "final" in black (my favorite, so far):
Argh, so this is turning out to be a nightmare simply because of Beautiful Widgets itself.
I've created these to look great with MY settings, but any time I change anything it just looks wrong. This widget is definitely not up to the task.
I use Apex with a grid of 5x4 and use the 4x2 Super Clock widget, and it looks great, BUT, if I use the standard 4x4 it stretches and looks bad. If I change the margins, it stretches and looks bad. If I look at it the wrong way, it stretches and looks bad. I also can't embed any of the clock's settings (text color, alphas, etc) into the skins, so color options are basically nil.
Does anyone know of a skinnable clock widget that has a 100% static size no matter what home settings you use?
