Keyboards on VGA screens? Swype coming to VGA? - Android Apps and Games

Hey guys.
I have 2 main questions...
1: I can't get alternative keyboards to work (I've tried ShapeWriter) I can "check" it so it's my chosen keyboard, but whenever I go to type anything, it just shows me the standard Android keyboard. Is this because I'm on a VGA screen? (Diamond)
2: Is Swype coming to Android for VGA screens?
Thanks for the replies!

Well I figured out how to get ShapeWriter working, but the copy of Swype I downloaded isn't working for me. I didn't know you had to hold down (rclick essentially) the text box to switch the input mode, but since i've done that, I have fallen in love with ShapeWriter... It's the same concept as Swype, but if I can get swype working, I'm sure I'ld switch to that.
ShapeWriter (free in the market) rocks... It could use a little larger dictionary with some common abreviations, and a little text speak. It doesn't even have lol in its dictionary!
But adding words is as simple as you can imagine. This keyboard is far better than the stock one...

bwahah
if you want swype(which i use on ALL my roms) google swype for mytouch3g
if not i know a warez site with it lol

Software keyboards

can someone please tell me were to get the htc software keyboards from!!
i put 6.5 on my phone but there are no software keyboards but the windows 1..i need them please please help!
the default HTC keyboard is called "EzInput". Searching for that will yield you better results.
Also check out the new "FingerKeyboard" I find it works alot better then the default one. It is one I use currently.
Another keyboard I found worked very well was Spb Keyboard. It allows finger gestures for backspace and space. Helps alot.
Also PocketCM Keyboard is REALLY sweet if you can get it set up properly. This keyboard allows for "sloppy" typing. Using this keyboard, you don't have to press the keys exactly. It references your taps against a dictionary and is pretty accurate.
I like the look and feel of FingerKeyboard but find the way PocketCM Keyboard works simply amazing. Both keyboards allow skinning. A mix of the two would be amazing.

Swype vs Slideit vs Shapewriter

There might be more gesture type keyboards out there for the N1 please feel free to fire them in the thead. I had swype on my G1 and loved it and when I moved to N1 I could never get it to work. So I found Slideit and Shapewriter. IMO Shapewriter when I tried it out just plain sucked. Slideit on the other hand I have come to love as much or more than swype. At first it seem terrible but as I have gotten used to it, again IMO it is of the same quality as swype it self. What do you guys think?
I never knew other gesture keyboards could actually even compare to the awesomeness of Swype. I have tried ShapeWriter, SlideIt is next I guess.
Swype is the best mobile keyboard ever, almost for me... It`s simple and
very very fast.
slideit is fast as well....
I havent tried Slideit. Before I found Swype I made the mistake of buying Shapewriter. I say mistake because not long after I bought it, they redid the whole layout and removed the shift key. Trying to enter a password without a shift key is such a pain I just gave up using it completely. Now that I have Swype, I'm happy.
Is Swype out yet?? .. I have only the beta, and it reports errors all the time. But it looks nice and look forward to the full release.
I use SlideIT, as it is the only one with danish support, and I quite like also. Also they seem to be interested in the feedback I sent back.
My main gripe with SlideIT is that there are no special characters on the front keyboard. It annoys me that I have to switch screens to write things like '-' or '?' ...
But they seemed willing to allow for options to choose the layout. So once that is done, i will probably buy that app.
Shapewriter looks odd in landscape mode. Lots of wasted space. Also have no danish support (yet).
I will try out Swype and Shapewriter more once they have support for danish language. Until then there can only be SlideIT

Keyboard options

I am looking for some options for the on screen keyboard on my HTC HD2. Does anyone have any suggestions for it ?
You can try Finger Keyboard 2.1 . To me it is the best among the others
Why? do you not like the plain look of windows mobile keyboard. I have swype as a second keyboard option.
Search DINIK, he has skinned the normal keyboard. all my friends envy the 3D eye candy keyboard... i definitely display that more than swype now give it a try!
Finger Keyboard 2.1 has skins for it an suports alot of languges
i think you will find it the most sutable kebord for your needs

Depends what youre after. If you like the standard k/board but want a better look, Dinik has a great skin and there are several skins floating around for this.
If you dont like the functionality of it, there are many alternative keyboards. For me i have tried Touchpal (great touch style, layout, fast etc), Swype (many threads and vids on this, no typing, more like sliding), SlideIT (similiar to Swype) etc.
I used to use swype, found out it was the reason my phone was crashing, now i'm using slidet which is similar,no freezing or crashing..

Curious, what version of Swype were you using. Just asking as i use both Swype and SlideIT, i can never make up mind so constantly changing between the 2. SlideIT flows better, faster, abbreviations etc but sometimes i type a certain words and SlideIT just doesnt get it, produces the ?? however type same words with Swype, no problem. SlideIT's ugly too so sometimes like the look of Swpe so ive used both for ages, no probs.
Only problem i had when i had both and Touchpal installed same time. On its own, it worked great but when i had all 3 installed, often the keyboard wouldnt respond so i had to soft reset. Uninstalled Touchpal, problem went away.
try latest Resco Keyboard

Dexter Froyo Multitouch Keyboard Word Predictions?

The Multitouch keyboard is one of the best feeling keyboards I've tried. Without word predictions it's the easiest to type ( most accurate keyboard without predictions),but for some reason word predictions don't seem to be working. Does anyone know either a) how to get word predictions working on the keyboard? or b) Where I could find a working apk to this keyboard with full predictions?
I have no lack of keyboard problem (there are plenty of good keyboards out there) but this one feels very good and has one of the best layouts w/ good spacing that I've used so I'd like to get a fully working version of this, if at all possible.
Thanks
I probably would use Swype as my default as I like the concept and look, but it's always so innacurate and typing ends up taking way longer than it should...

[Q] Different keyboard?

hey guys,
i'm new to the TPT and i do like it a lot so far. root went well and bloatware is down. since there are so many apps that are device specific, i was curious if there are any different soft keyboard apps that you could recommend. on the SGS2 i am using swype, so when i switch devices, i'm somehow missing that a little.
possible to install other keys and if so, anything to recommend? maybe even something for the stylus? (i figure that either my handwriting sucks, or the detection for regular writing just sucks)
sorry for beginners questions, but i couldn't find anything about it yet ..
I tried several and settled on SwiftKey Tablet X. Works best for me.
I use Thumb Keyboard. It has a split design and has numbers and arrows. It works good with this wide fellow.
I use it on my phone, but was disappointed that it didn't translate well to tablet, for me.
I use Swype and like it a lot
I use FlexT9, it does swype as well as dictation and some other nifty stuff.
Swift Key tablet version is my favorite, not to much of a fan of Swype but thats just my personal preference. its either stock android or swift key
If you like the full keyboard like I do, i recommend the Hacker's Keyboard. Not exactly sure why its called that but it uses a full QWERTY keyboard with arrow keys. Another is the Logitech Keyboard (still in beta but I havent had any issues) that has a full QWERTY that also you can swipe across the keyboard to show another keyboard that doubles as a technical keyboard or calculator.
If you like lots of buttons, is more open to customizing (button row/column height/width adjustments), either one would work great.

I prefer Thumb Keyboard too. I like that you can choose different themes for it. And for the most part, the themes they offer match a lot of flashable themes/roms for different devices.

+1 for Hacker's Keyboard. I usually use my tablet in the folio case so I have a nice hardware keyboard. However there have been plenty of times where I have had it out of the folio and been editing a document or posting on a forum and the hackers keyboard has come in extremely handy. It would be something I was willing to spend money on, but since it is free, it's an even better deal.

Hackers Keyboard ist the best, it is for free you can use 5 row style (numbers and letters) and you can download different languages for auto correctur.
In portrait mode I usually use Swype, which is great even at 10inch!
In landscape mode and for things like SSH/Terminal, I use Hacker's Keyboard, which feels almost like the real thing
Dueces beat me to it. HACKERS KEYBOARD for the closest simulation of a desktop keyboard (I've) found so far. Not only are the keys big and bold, perhaps more importantly they are scalable (as is the entire keyboard).

SwiftKey Tablet X for me as I use SwiftKey 3 on my SGS3 and I just can't go back to anything else anymore...I might have to give this hacker's keyboard a crack though, thanks for the suggestion.
For those who like Swype, I strongly recommend the TouchPal keyboard. Its implementation of the swype input method is terrific.
