how much of a difference is there from android 1.5/6 to 2.1. i have a book about andriod development for 1.5 & 1.6 . they have a 2.1 book but its not out yet, its in beta.
can i learn 1.5/6 then just add on to that learning by including the new the features that 2.1 has? or is there to much a of difference that you cant just learn 2.1 on top of your 1.5/6 knowledge.
sry if this seems like a stupid question.

The new manila 2.5 seems to be catch a lot of attention but the question is:
Is it really new? "Manila 2.5" was once the result of developers trying to port over to devices other than the "HTC Diamond" (Yes that was over a year ago)
Brought back to us so that we can take a step back and see the beauty created at the time but did not have the attention it deserved.
Manila 2.5 takes away a few of the newer things such as the scroll-through for the favorite people
Many new features are however available:
A new look to the messaging
The internet tab
The expansion of the calendar functionality
The settings tab allows a lot more to be configured upfront
Many of the things to enjoy will be available to you depending on the functionalities your chef(s) provides in the rom(s)
Let's all enjoy this beauty and make it better as needed.
Cheers!
Im so looking foward to this. I've been playing around with Miri's ROM on my HD and its seriously amazing. I think the 2.5 is aptly named because HTC has confirmed something similar the the SENSEUI upcoming for windows...the most logical step right now is to kill windows. I don't mean literally just meaning get people out of the OS, never let them see its windows, skin it or create it but ultimately cover it. 2.5 seems to be that step in the right direction. There are seriously maybe 3 times I've stepped into windows white pasted OS since I've had the ROM. Its good for the total experience. Too bad Samsung really hit a homerun with their UI by completely reskinning everything.
I'm really looking foward to 2.5 but I'm looking moreso to when we finish porting samsung apps, blending them with HTC app, and creating our own superphones. (that will of course crash because HTC doesn't give our phones quality hardware).......a man can dream
I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do or the right place to put it... but here goes.
This might just be me, but everywhere i look people are are offering roms with super apps preloaded, fonts and themes, stuff i never knew existed and so on built into the rom version so when people like me download and flash it, we get a million things included without asking for it!
So hows about a simple, no frills, nothing special, plane jane old rom developed from the newest android platform with all the go0gle goodies (gmail, maps, nav, messaging, market, Car home, calendar, browser etc.) preloaded but nothing else? No skins or themes, no developer tools or additional OEM stuff like Vodafone, Motorola apps and so on.
Of course there will have to be multi lingual support for our foreign friends and apps like market and maps have to be locale-unlocked so we can use them no matter where our geological position may be.
I hope its not a huge ask, and i'm not saying the developers out there who are providing roms ATM are useless, (their quite talented and gifted at what they do) it's just asking if anyone out there will put their hand up and say; "I'll give that a shot in my spare time" and provide us with something a little bit different and more basic for the users who dont want all the special features.
I'd donate for that!
If there is such a rom... please post a link! If theres no such thing... give it a go! If this is just a ridiculous ask... my apologies in advance
Probably the two 'cleanest' roms I've come across would have to be:
for 32A/B: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
for 32B: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566676
besides some modifications and dev tools, these two roms are probably the lightest, fastest and latest 1.6 donut (with everything 100% working, unlike camera and sync problems on 2.0).

There is a newer version of Dwangs ROM,
32B - Dwang v1.13
ahmgsk is working on a pretty solid build based on eclair, i find it hard to believe hes one of the only ones working with 2.0 and 2.0.1
Is HTC’s Sense UI identical on Android and Windows Mobile? I’m trying to decide on a new phone this month – HTC HD2 versus HTC Supersonic. I’m leaning towards the Supersonic, but really like how Sense looks on the HD2.
I understand that there would be differences in system configuration, etc., but am mostly interested in core Sense UI functionality.
Thanks in advance!
They really aren't that much the same. You still get the retro clock but the Android SenseUI is very much different than the WM one.
The thing with the Android version is that it does not truly replace the shell the way the WM version does. On Android it enhances the widgets and the home screens but the underlying functions of the app tray, etc. is still Android. I imagine the reason for this is because Android is already much more modern than WM from the start.
@naplsbill - Thanks for the info!
From my understanding(haven't use Sense on WM, but have an Android phone w/Sense) and the contact management is similar among both phones. I want to say the speed dialing works the same, but I am not too sure of that.
sense is just an overlay of both winmo and android
sense on winmo enhanced the experience if u dont go into the system much for finding a file you downloaded or such
android with sense is an "enhancement" to the android experience
winmo with sense is a cover up of microsofts horrible work on a mobile operating system
ive owned both types phone
a tp2 and a g1 mytouch and nexus
im not a fanboy or anything
but when it comes to great experience i choose htc/google android/sense user experience. it does a better job of the phrase "getting things done" and if u have a gmail account getting an android phone is very helpful with keeping up with stuff
my whole life is on google
tasks, calendars, photos, gmail (3 accounts)
so in the end it comes down to u but this is my experience
the supersonic btw is SICKKKKKKKKKKK

Amazing arrant nonsense. I have had many winMo phones and used Hero, Moto Cliq and my Touch 3g and the winmo interface is light years ahead of the crude looking android.
HTC interface is excellent on both TP2 and Hero and it is a"cover up of" microsofts and google's "horrible work on a mobile operating system". Actually the HTC sense enhances the interface of both android and winmo. It actually makes basic functions look alike on both platforms.

Really?!
haha okay...
well i am not a fanboy
i appreciate both OS's
but when it comes down to choice its all about how you like your information given to you
some people like it the winmo sense way and some people like it the android sense way...
i side with the android sense way/regular android way
cuz you can customize what info you want
sense UI on droid and WM
I had several WM mobile devices and played with a few andriod devices. I definitely think the way the UI animate and stuff on both platform are completey not a like. lets create a list of things we can use to compare. I will start with the wm list since i currently own the hd2 and can someone create a list for the droid. i definetely getting the evo so i would like to know what to expect.
thank you to all.
wm sense UI:
contact photo sync with myphone and oulook (no photo id downscaled issue)
animated weather and wallpaper
animated foolprint
silder bar
s2u2 - fullscreen callid
lame that it can only sync with one active sync account unlike the pre
good that it does not sync all the fb contact like the pre. super anoying on the pre
droid sense UI: (please list)
Hi!
After Planetbeing managed to port Android 1.6 everybody installs android on the iphone.
Me too
Now my question is if it is possible port 2.1 onto the iphone. The basic drivers are already running so it should be a simple task or?
Thanks in advance!
You may want to ask this on an iPhone forum, not a Winmo/Android Forum
If developers can build chteditor for android phones it will be brilliant, iam sure lot of people inc.me will be very interested
