EDIT:
if the creator was wrx4memp <-thats me ... you can do whatever it is that you can think of... admire it... use it... modify it... make fun of it... feed it to starving kids in (your fav 3rd word country here)... i dont care too much what you do with it as long as it doesnt comeback to haunt me in any way... and my wife is a lawyer... so... good luck ...
anyway most of you will notice im too lazy or quite possibly too dumb to create update.zip... anyway what are smart people for... ???? so go ahead ... you don't need my permission just go on, but if you must get a hold of me for whatever reason do not leave a post here or pm... send me a chat request via gtalk: [email protected] i usually have my cell with me and will respond... i try stop by once a night to see if there is something new to flash but dont hold me to it...
another note... if you see any problems or something i should change on one of these then the sooner you let me know the better... i like to keep my computer clean and i will eventually delete the layered image file that is easy to edit
EDIT2
my arsenal / "what i use":
macbook pro -> http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/
$0.00 -> GIMP -> http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/ <-photoshop replacement its ugly but gets the job done
$80.00 ->photoshop elements 8 -> http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelmac/
$0.00 -> GIFfun -> http://www.stone.com/GIFfun/
anyone feel free to correct me on anything i did say... dont bother correcting my spelling i see it... i just dont care enough to correct it... anyway... im not a guru in any of this... im just posting what has worked for me... and what i have found so far...
EDIT 3:
COMMON PROBLEMS:
---------------------------------------------------------------
if you flashed a zip and are still getting the regular sprint boot you have to delete the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media/
everything should work fine thereafter...
---------------------------------------------------------------
if you created your boot animation on your compy and loaded it onto your phone and now all you are getting is some funky crap you have TRANSPARENCY that the phone does not know how to handle
for all those having problems with transparency 100% sure fire way to clear it up:
pseudoremora said:
These are the steps you need to take:
1. Create boot animation in Photoshop
2. Save for Web, export as .gif file to somewhere on computer (desktop is fine)
3. Open Gimp and select the file you just created
4. When it opens, go to: Filters - Animation - Playback. Test your .gif to verify that it animates correctly and what not.
5. Once you're satisfied, go to: Filters - Animation - Unoptimize. This will create a new window with a "unoptimized" .gif file.
6. With that current window open, select: File - Save: Name your picture and make sure you have the ext - .gif, choose where you want it to be saved (Desktop is best) and then choose Save
7. A window will pop up and ask if you want to: 1) Merge Visible layers or 2) Save as Animation -- Choose Save as Animation and click Export and click Save once more.
8. Find your newly created .gif file on your Desktop (or wherever you chose to save it) and package it accordingly as you would with any update.zip file, making sure to include the .xml file and follow the folder structure, which is: /system/media/bootscreen/<files>

WOW I love them!
do you think you could make a custom RegawMOD one???
That would be awesome.
I'll try to help. send me the zips you got and I'll look them over for errors
Wow, those are very well done. Mind sharing a download link? I've had problems with getting my boot screens to load properly as well.
I'm flashing one of them right now to see if it works with my zip, I'll let you guys know.
and btw pseu, right click and save image..
perhaps the gif needs to be chmodded?

ok i changed the names of the gifs, edited the xml to allow 3 gifs in succession (for the fresh one), then looped whichever one, and turned audio off in the xml, then zipped and signed and flashed.
see, was just a simple rename for me. only tried one at once not 3.
Ok, i got the triple fresh one to go perfectly... looks fantastic.
Took it down, due to not having permission yet from the creator.

Yea, I just tested the first image -- saved the image, renamed to boot.gif, updated .xml for "Full Screen", turned off audio, signed, and flashed, was successful.
A thing to note for people who are going to make boot screens... on DC ROM's, you'll most like have a bootanimation.zip file inside the Media folder -- this HAS to be deleted FIRST, otherwise even if you flash the boot screen you created OR someone else's successfully, the default boot screen will continue to run and the one you flash will NOT show up.
TI really, really, really, like all of these!
Anyone got the Damage Rom (first one) working with a signed zip? It is awesome!
I has gots to have it! For realz. For serious.
LMAO!!!! Is the first one Damage stomping on the head of whoever leaked the RUU?
It would be nice to have the first one (damage rom) all zipped up and ready to flash.......
OP- awesome work !
Re: problems setting custom boot screen...
Yea guys sharing is caring. Unless it's herpes. Anyone make a bond boot theme? Like the gun barrel and blood in the beginning? I'd really like that.

I would love that damaged one to signed and zipped. Is there any special way to flash these? Every time I try to flash a bootscreen from recovery mode it just goes back to default when I test it.

UPDATE:
First I want to thank every one, I also want to give a shout out to
Mrdaviso for making the sound possible on cm7, please give him thanks for his thread on this. I've been waiting to have sound for the animation for sooo long and now it finally works and thanks to him.
I stripped all the text out of the animation except for the android logo and the preview below is exactly what it is, he screams and then stares at you and blinks until your phone boots.
The scream I choose is one I thought was appropriate... the original Godzilla roar! But if you really want, and I honestly would love to see more sound files made, please offer others. You can use mine as a template for syncing with the animation. I love to see others post sounds for this!
Heres the d/l link hope you guys like this. This zip file contains the bootanimation.zip, android_audio.mp3 (godzilla) and the bootsnd.sh (to setup sound playing on phone bootup)
Installation of the new un-branded versions with sound!!! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
First how to setup boot animation sound on cm (link to the op):
To install boot animation:
1. just unzip the screaming_android_with_sound.zip file on the root of your sdcard
2. copy the bootanimation.zip file to the system/media folder replacing the old one or renaming the old one and copying this one over if your just testing.
3. Android wins again!
Changing the ResolutionThe resolution for the animation is 480X800 if you'd like a different size:
1. copy the bootanimation.zip file to your computer.
2. open the zip and edit the desc.txt 's second line (480 800 not the 25 read below) to match your phones resolution.
3. save the file and close the zip program
4. you shouldn't need to unzip the bootanimation.zip file to do the above
5. if you do need/want to unzip it when rezipping make sure the compression level your zipping it on is "store" or it won't work.
Sound doesnt seem to match up?... change to animation speed in the desc.txt file:
1. copy the bootanimation.zip file to your computer.
2. open the zip and edit the desc.txt 's second line (only the 25 not the first 2 numbers) to speed it up or slow it down.
3. save the file and close the zip program
4. you shouldn't need to unzip the bootanimation.zip file to do the above
5. if you do need/want to unzip it when rezipping make sure the compression level your zipping it on is "store" or it won't work.
NOTES:
want a different sound on the animation... the sound file has to be called android_audio.mp3 for it to play, this file will play for any new bootanimation you install unless you remove the android_audio.mp3 file and it has to be an mp3.
Programs to help... if you don't have root explorer get "Super Manager" from the market it does r/w and root privileged file exploring (and more) just like root explorer and its free.
I'm only giving this out in zip file format, I'm not doing a flashable as its to hard to keep up with all the different roms and resolutions. I provide instruction on how to change the resolution of the animation to fit your phone.

Installation of the old branded versions: just flash the the zip file below.
Screaming Droid Boot Animation Flashable Download 320 x 480 flashable to system/media
Screaming Droid Boot Animation 480 x 800 This is just the boot animation, rename and install where needed.
Screaming Droid Boot Animation Flashable 480 x 800 This flashable installs to the data/local folder if this isn't where you need it use the above bootanimation.zip and place it where its needed.
Screaming Droid Boot Animation Flashable 240 x 320 This installs to the system/media folder if this wont work for you i'll post the bootnaimation.zip and you can push it or you can pull it out of the flashable and push it.
Push Instructions:
use adb and push the bootanimation.zip (which must be in the tools folder which is inside your android-sdk folder) to /system/customize/resource, /data/local, /system/media, i think you only need to push it to the first one, but try all 3 just in case
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media or /data/local or system/resource/customize
or with term app
first copy bootanimation.zip on your SDCard
run terminal
and write
#su
#mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
(now you can write to /system)
("browse" to location, where you have copied bootanimation.zip, if it is in root of your card)
#cd /sdcard
(you can check if it is there)
#ls
(now just copy it)
#cp bootanimation.zip /system/media
(you can exit, and reboot, new animation should work, enjoy)

Looks good man ... Great job on it. Do u plan on making a dark version?
Really does everything have to be black around here. Lol what do you mean by dark? Maybe if I get enough requests.
I did have a good idea for a dark boot animation... one that would be easier to make dark. The way this was ripped doesn't lend well to dark colors.
Fun stuff as always XD
Awesome job buddy

Thanks, I'll check through my iteration and see I think I had one that did that. I pretty much done with this one, I spent to much time on it so I'm moving on to something else.

Cool. Thanks! Def enjoying it either way.
I love it! If I could add anything at all it would be sound. I think a good Jurassic Park roar would sound friggin awesome when the droid screams. I have no idea how to do that though, lol
Thanks... Well I could add a sound but it would only work for sense based rom. How I wish there was sound.
If people want a sense version I will male one with sound.

I am still monitoring this thread, but all new content moving forward will be on my blog to make things easier ^_^
This will be a thread for all the boot animations and splash screens I produce/edit. Some boot animations are ROM specific, as noted, and can simply be flashed via recovery or ROM Manager, others will need to be renamed and adb pushed to the correct location for the ROM you're using (PM me if you need assistance, happy to help ^_^). For the splash screens, you MUST be S-Off via unrevoked forever. I will be checking and updating this thread regularly so feel free to post any suggestions, comments or requests here in this thread.
Instructions for ROM specific boot animations
1)Download .zip file from your phone by following the link you want
2)Install from recovery or ROM Manager
3)Reboot & enjoy!
Instructions for generic boot animations
1)Download .zip file from your computer by following the link you want
2)Rename the downloaded .zip appropriately (Usually bootanimation.zip or VZW_bootanimation.zip; if unsure, contact your ROM chef or PM me and I'll help as best I can)
3)ADB push the renamed .zip file to the appropriate location on your phone (Usually /system/media or /system/customize/resource; again, if unsure, contact your ROM chef or PM me and I'll help as best I can)
4)Reboot & enjoy!
Instructions for splash1 screens
1)YOU MUST BE S-OFF IN ORDER TO USE THESE! IF YOU ARE NOT, GO HERE AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS LISTED BEFORE PROCEEDING TO STEP 2!
2)Download .zip file from either from your computer or your phone
3)Rename it to PB31IMG.zip
4)Remove or rename any existing PB31IMG.zip file from the root of your SD card and copy the one you just downloaded and renamed to the root of your SD card
5)Power off your phone, reboot into bootloader (hold volume down and power, when it turns on, release power but NOT VOLUME DOWN!)
6)The bootloader will scan the file and prompt you to hit volume up to install, do that (unless you were just doing all this for practice and don't actually WANT a new splash1 screen lol)
7)Reboot & enjoy!

where to push for redemptive 1.7? adb push VerizonBootAnimation.zip/system/app ?
or system/resource/customize and is it VZW_bootanimation that i need to renale it? or something else? are they still VZW files? or sprint?

lol no worries, I never tell people what to do, only what I would do ^_^ I would just flash it in Recovery or ROM Manager (Heard some people having trouble with ROM Manager method, haven't been able to duplicate). If you really want to ADB push it, first you have to open up the RedemptiveRevolution_BIOS_boot_animation.zip file you downloaded, go in to the system>customize>resource folder and pull out the VZW_bootanimation.zip Then you can ADB push that exact VZW_bootanimation.zip file, no renaming necessary, to /system/customize/resource and you should be golden, but again, that's more work than you have to do ^_^
Good question though, and I updated the OP accordingly so hopefully it'll be a little clearer moving forward, that was my fault. The way I'm trying to do this is, any boot animations that are ROM specific (Custom ROM logos, wording, etc...), I'll install the ROM on my phone once I'm done with the boot animation and then try and load it myself. If it works, I post it, if not, I try again lol. That way, if it's in the ROM Specific section, all you should have to do is flash the downloaded .zip file in recovery or ROM Manager. It's when you dip into the Generic section that you have to be a teeeensy bit savvy and I'll be glad to help with those, just drop me a PM or a message here in this thread (Need to know what ROM you're running) and I'll either walk you thru it or, if possible, repackage the boot animation for you so you can flash it to your ROM in recovery the easy way ^_^

Which one are you having trouble with? Again, if you guys are downloading the ROM specific ones, I've made that as simple as pie, just flash them in recovery or from ROM manager. If it's a different one, lemme know and I can make you a flashable .zip for Redemptive (How much do you LOVE those transitions by the way? Those things are sick!)

This is the Droid dance boot animation that I customized a little to work good with my evo. I made it have twice as many frames and run twice as fast. It looks great and has no lag. Just rename it to bootanimation.zip and use Root Explorer to replace your original in /system/customize/resource and it should run when u reboot. If you want a sound clip to go with it use ringdroid app to make a 20 second .mp3 clip for the Droid to dance to and rename it to SPC_animation_final.mp3 and put it in the same folder. Good luck and enjoy.http://db.tt/tdsEB50
I take no credit for this other than moving some .jpgs around and renaming them and redoing the folder setup to make it work correctly. I plan to refine this alittle more and remove the black bars. Also if anyone would like to help me make a flashable zip out of this PM me and I would really appreciate it. I will upload this to mediafire when I get home from work because dropbox limits downloads. Thanks and please don't think I am trying to rip off anyone's work. It just didn't work for me off the bat so I refined it and figured I would share.
EDIT: I have a redone it to a fullscreen version and it looks much better and still runs just as good. Here is the link...bootanimation.zip
EDIT 2# I have also added 2 flashable zips for the boot animation:
1. Flashable zip for Roms that have the bootanimation.zip in \system\customize\resource (such as Baked Snack, Stock) use RingDroid.apk to cut a 20sec music clip and rename it SPC_animation_final.mp3 and put in the same folder. Here is the link.
2. Flashable zip for Roms that have the bootanimation.zip in \system\media (such as Caulklin's EVio 2) use RingDroid.apk to cut a 20sec music clip and rename it to android_audio.mp3 and put it in the same folder. Here is the link.
These 2 .ZIPS are identical other than where they place the boot animation because some roms put them in different folders. I have not tested the .ZIP for the customize folder yet because I am currently running Caulklin's amazing EVio 2 1.5 rom. Please post your results with these files and also I would appreciate it if you would rate the quality. Thanks and Good luck!
Fullscreen version now in OP.
Thanks, Ill try this out later. For Cyanogen users, the .zip also must be placed in /system/media in case anyone is wondering.
Does the audio clip have to be 20 seconds for it to work?
any chance of making it with the background being black?
sometimes it seems like it speeds through the animation.. usually it stops on him facing away (he doesn't dance until the phone has booted).. any thoughts?

Tried both. Didn't work.
flashable zip 1 works on myns warm rls3. thank you
Going back to previous version with black bars. This version is too short and stops about 10-15 seconds before my phone boots up.
Ian B
Could you make it run about 10 seconds longer? Love the fullscreen otherwise.
Sorry for the problems guys, I don't use Cyanogen so I'm not sure what the problem is I would be very thankful if someone with some knowledge on making flashable zips could edit this to work on CM, I would definitely add it to the OP.
Also, I guess our phones run alittle different because the speed and timing for the bootanimation is perfect on my phone with every rom I have put it on. I will work on these as soon as I get a weekend (could possibly be after thanksgiving, sorry have been really busy at work lately). I will try slowing it down just alittle and also add some more frames and try to figure out how to make it loop correctly so it won't just freeze until the phone boots.
Sorry again for the problems, this is my first bootanimation so I'm still learning. I actually just wanted to get this working on my phone and decided to share it. I will update the OP as soon as I have the time to refine this further.

thanks man!
now trying to think of a song!
o yes! thanks man!
Used the zip file and added a song.. imma add it to my post. i will give you credit!
Great Job, will try this.....
Neat!
Works great on Myn's 2.2. I picked "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" from Scissor Sisters for the boot audio. Pretty funny. I have attached the edited version I am using. It might run a little long for some (about 35 seconds) but you can use Ringdroid to edit it.
This is not a flashable zip. Just extract/unzip the .mp3 and move it to the /system/customize/resource folder. If you want to save the original boot audio file be sure to rename it before moving or copying this one.
Is it possible? How hard would it be to do?
should be pretty simple
I just made one, but for some reason I do not see it when my TF boots, once I figure it out, I'll put it up here for you.

update: Thanks hawkxcore that did it. For others, in linux this is how I did it:

Ok got some progress. Got the animation to load, but I need to shrink the images a bit, currently the zip file is 98M. So let me play with this tonight and I'll get it ready to post here tomorrow
Here's what I got so far, got it down to 13MB: http://mir.cr/TUZXFHB1
although i cant root my transformer i do know a way to make bootanims from videos.
use after effects and it can do the png thing also you can make custom 3d looking anims in there. if you dont have it use a free trial or some of those torrents things. not suggedting anything and not condoning illegal stuff its your choice.
your transformer doesn't need to be rooted to install boot animations. I installed it on hers and her's isn't even rooted to this day.
You push it with adb - "adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
I'll upload some boot animations soon, I've become quite good at making them over the past couple days.
Anybody that is having trouble with their boot animation.. don't be stupid like me. I was taking the bootanimation folder that I was making them in and I compressed that folder. And I kept compressing that instead of just the contents (desc.txt and folder1), stupid mistake, but an easy one to make.
Has anyone tried this bootanimation ?
I'm trying to figure out how to add audio to the animation, but it looks like it requires a ROM tweek. If anyone has any information on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to the work of invisiblek and some Google searching I was able to come up with the following tool:
This tool takes a 720x1280 .PNG image and converts it to a recovery-flashable splash screen in a single click.
A video so you can see what this changes: http://youtu.be/XXaBJTVQ2Sw
How to use:
Making your own splash screen:
0) Download and extract the .zip file
1) Make a 720x1280 .png image you want to be your splash screen (this comes in-between the boot animation and the quick Samsung logo flash)
2) Name it "initlogo.png" without the quotes
3) Place it in the PNGtoConvert folder
4) Run the "PNG-2-RLE.bat" file
5) You are finished! A "flashthisinrecovery.zip" will appear in the same directory as the batch files. Just flash it in recovery and enjoy your new splash screen!
Note: If you want the .RLE and not the whole flashable, it can be found as "initlogo.rle" in the "kernel" folder or you can pull it from the kernel folder inside the "flashmeinrecovery.zip"
Converting an .RLE that you made back to a .PNG for editing:
0) Download an extract the .zip file
1) Copy the "initlogo.rle" you want to convert to a .PNG to the RLEtoConvert folder. It must be named "initlogo.rle"
2) Run the "RLE-2-PNG.bat"
3) PNG will be in the PNGtoConvert folder named "initlogoOUTPUT.png"
Other notes:
I have included the stock initlogo as a .PNG named "initlogoSTOCKBACKUP.png" for your reference/backup purposes. If you want to test the tool with it, remember to rename it to initlogo.png
If you flash a new kernel/rom the splash will revert to stock. To get it back, just flash the "flashmeinrecovery.zip" again. You don't need to reconvert it or anything.
This has only been tested with the d2_vzw but will work with all USA (S4 CPU) variants!
Credits:
invisiblek for the recovery zip scripting

As always, even though this tool has been tested, nobody is responsible to damage to your phone except yourself!

I don't know why I never thought about personalizing my phone by just changing out my splash image with one of my own, but this sounds cool and will give me something to play around with tonight at work. Thanks, I will let you know how it works out for me. I appreciate your efforts and willingness to share your work.

I mean lets be honest it is really a minor thing and it shows for all of 5 seconds but it is still fun to change.
The Samsung thing is getting kind of old...just sayin.
Thanks Con

Glad to hear it works. It is always nice to know when it works for someone else and my instructions are good

I didn't even know I could have a custom splash screen with Samsung! Thanks Con

Will this work with AOSP ROMs, or just TW?

Note: the image I used wasn't 720x1280, does it have to be?

This is pretty cool. we were doing this with the thunderbolt and i changed my all the time to the flavor of the moment.
thanks for getting this done...it is not necessary, but it sure is cool...

It must be 720x1280. If you don't follow the directions (read Step #1) you shouldn't expect it to work!
i thanked you in the other post so i'll do it here too. thanks!
I love changing my splash screens and boot animations. when I came over from a long line of Evos everyone was looking at my like if I was crazy when I was wondering why we couldn't change our splash.
anyways, have you looked into changing the Samsung splash that comes before? I would like to replace both so that the image I created shows longer. don't need that Samsung logo flashing around

I don't think we can because it is a part of the bootloader which is signed so we can't modify it. On the gnex the app logome can change it but we can't due to the security. I am not sure if the other carrier models are signed but for Verizon I am pretty sure it's impossible.

Worked great. Here is my (extremely dumb) first splash haha.
Here is mine! We should make a thread with all of these btw. Maybe I'll go over to the theme section in a little bit and make one.
