For people who need reading glasses the Android phones can be a pain. Would it be possible for an app to accomplish a fix for something lacking in the android system? I am talking about a system wide option to increase the font size. For another platform this app might be called "iGlasses"

I'm not sure if this will work or how this works but I'm wondering if there are any avenues to request a feature or modification to an app when the original developer is unresponsive to requests? Obviously this would only be for personal use and not for redistribution of the app.
App: BattStatt
Mod: I love the look and simplistic nature of this widget. My only grip is that I'm running it on an Evo 4g with a large 800x480 display and when I use the widget in a 4x1 configuration the text only takes up a small portion of this defined area. I want the text to scale up to where it fills the 4x1 space as much as possible so space isn't wasted. Can this modification be done easily by any of the developers around here? I'm not sure how this works so don't flame me lol.
Typically, the source code needs to be available to modify how it works. Is it?
All I have is the app itself as downloaded through the market. I'm not sure how to go about getting the source code.
Hmm.. this app uses "sp" units to set font size, so text should automatically scale to constant physical size.
I won't modify it for you, because I would have to create 5 different sizes, so you would choose the best for you. But you could quite easily do it by yourself using apktool. Link is in my signature.
EDIT:
Or just tell me, how much bigger you want this text.
Hi All,
I'm an Android development noob and would like some feedback on my second app, "Photo Tiler"
link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.photo.tiler
The idea is to apply a color filter similar to the one used by Mac OS X Photo Booth.
The paid version allows custom colors, adjustment of the thresholds and applying the effect to existing photos.
The free version's functionality is rather "fixed", but the core algorithms are exactly the same.
I need feedback as to how it functions on different devices and such.
Thanks for your time.
Hi guys,
I’ve been playing around with a number of ROMs on my SGS3 and I’ve noticed something that’s made me wonder…
…and this is just out of curiosity…
What is the score with animations – specifically transition animations – in Android?
What I mean is; there appears to be a disjointed approach to animations within the OS. I’m not just talking about between versions either but often within just one iteration of Android (be it stock or custom).
Often the animation when launching an app is different to the transition animation within the app. Also I’ve noticed some apps have their own – and markedly different – animations. So you can have two apps on the same handset/ROM that transition differently to various screens/activities within. I assume this is because the developers of these apps choose to utilise different animations?
I know transition animations can be changed relatively easily for most root users using something like Anim Mod but here I’m talking about general use – including stock, un-rooted, non-power users too.
The obvious comparator would be iOS where all(?) apps launch with that zoom effect and then transition between screens within the app with that sideways slide effect.
And please don’t get me wrong here – I’m not saying iOS is somehow ‘better’ than Android because of this. Animations alone do not make an OS and I’m certainly of the opinion that openness, customisability, diversity of choice and raw power are far more important – hence why I don’t and probably will never choose to own an iOS device.
However that said some people do like a bit of eye candy and as I’ve said above iOS is the obvious comparator to Android when it comes to mobile OSes.
So why does Android not appear to have a unified approach to animations? Or does it? Do you think this is something Google should look to do – overhaul the animation framework to make it smoother, faster, prettier and more unified; or do you think this would stifle choice and individuality when it comes to development? How important do you think animations are in terms of attracting potential new users and do you think the current approach to animations is enough? I’m aware more care has been taken over transitions generally in JB but is it enough and should it stop there?
Please: no flaming! As I said this is purely out of curiosity – to gauge opinion and information on the subject.
Actually, is very simple: Android is open source, so anyone can modify mostly aspects of the OS (users with their cROMs or manufacturers with stock ROMs).

Yup, and basically there are two ways to do it:
1 Activity and multiple layouts. In this case, the dev has total control over the transitions, because to move from a screen to another one, simply set other layout (any animation can be developed here). I think this way isn't possible on iOS.
Multiple activities, multiple layouts. In this case the system animations are used to move between screens (because to move from a screen to another one is necessary start another activity). Of course, a custom animation can be used here, and it will be displayed after system animation.

Ah, I see.
So presumably there are stock animations in the API that developers can use if they so wish? Otherwise mods like Anim Mod and similar wouldn't work... right?
Sent from my rooted GS3-I9300 running BlackstarV3 ROM using Tapatalk 2
Yes, but the stock animations are limited (change screens, emergent windows, back...) and are managed by Android automatically (I mean, you can't decide the animation to change between screens when you develop an app, unless you develop a custom transition as I said before).
Haven't been around in a while. My wife has the MikTouch-0.5 Rom on her phone. Looking for a ROM recomendation with options to increase font size. I understand that ice cream sandwich can?

One method is to adjust the DPI setting on the rom. Using buildprop editor, you can adjust the setting "ro.sf.lcd_density". The default for the doubleshot (at least with the CM 9.1 build) is 240. Lowering this number reduces the size that objects display, but I assume that increasing it will increase the size. I do have to warn, I have not tried to do this--I generally use 200 as my dpi setting. Changing this setting may also adjust what market applications are available, just as a warning.

Adjusting the LCD density on my phone made it to where no Market app was available for download/update. The Amazon Appstore and SlideME still worked.
there are also some free and paid apps on the market now that do this, you'll find them if you search 'font size' in Google Play. they won't affect how the market sees your device, but with the bigger font but the space where the words go remaining the same, there will be places here and there where words might get cut off at the top or bottom.
Hello,
what I'm looking for is to change only some font sizes.
I tried some Market apps and modified also the DPI value in build.prop, but these change all font sizes (small, medium and big fonts).
I come from a HTC Desire with Sense 3.5 and now I have a rooted S-off DS4GS with CM 9.1 using this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912582
Actually, text labels under homescreen icons, app drawer etc, look perfect, exacty the same as at my previous Desire, but with DS4GS some in-app texts or menu options look quite bigger now.
Are there different font sizes for small, medium and big fonts? If so, is it possible to configure each of them?
Thanks
So i really like the DPI at 200, it means I can see more than 4 lines of a text message and dont need to scroll for days to get to options in most apps, but having the GW4 on dpi 200 is a mess, the tiles are just shrunk down and attempting to work in the top left quarter of the watch while sometimes elements from them(like weather) will try to centre making things overlap and ruin the visuals.
Is there any way I can have my low DPI without having janky tiles? am I just choosing bad DPI numbers with the ones I have tried and that is what is causing it? Preferably id like to be able to choose the DPI per app but I assume that isnt possible
Let me put it this way. You use android smartphones for some time, right ? At last 8 years, right ? Have ever seen in any android phone dynamically adjusted DPI per app ?
I'm not sure if it's possible to change DPI per app via ADB, but you should be able to decompile each APK and manually set the DPI in Android Studio. It could be a lot of work if you want to customize a lot of apps, but it's an option if it's important to you.

I am not shure if it is move in the right direction. Lets say you rework app to 100 dpi BUT display will still work in 200 dpi. So the visual will be distorted.
This is not Windows where app can set display of the monitor to required resolution.
I don't know per app but you can increase or decrease all on your SW4.
