Clarification on Android 2.1 on Htc devices with O2 Network - General Topics

We tried many 2.1 ROM's this week on Htc and Sony Windows mobile devices with the O2 Network, seems that some ROM can connect in 2G and Internet but Having problems to connect Wifi, Bluetooth, phonecalls , sms and the Market still not a good pleasure for the fan's of android o2 customer's, other ROM's can connect Wifi and browsing but not 2G or even 3G and the Market still have big problem. If some developer around on the net can give us a clue so to find a ROM with all services: 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth,Market and of course phonecalls...Many thanks

Need help with wifi on TNT custom ROM!

I upgraded from an offcial t-mobile ROM to a TNT touchflo ROM1433, but da wifi is soooo bad. It has such weak signal, cant even reach my router from my bedroom upstairs. It worked excellent with my t-mobile ROM, now i don't know whats wrong. How can I improve wifi? is da problem with the ROM? I have unlocked t-mobile mda G3 device.
having this problem as well. mine will connect for a while then out of nowhere the network will show as unavailable. worked fine on the oem wm5 rom
if you need a rom with reasonable support for wifi you have to go to the older builts. .318 is the only built so far that connects to all wifi hotspots and enables you to connect even in IPsec networks.

Using VOX as External MODEM

Hi I am a newbie and purchased the phone a week ago. I am a heavy user of Symbian phone and is new to the windows smartphone.
Now while connecting Internet on PC through my VOX as modem I am facing problem. The manual is also not very elaborate about the same. Will somebody expalin explain in details the process to be followed. Please guide both using VOX as USB modem as also BT PAN modem.
For information I am from INDIA and is a subscriber of BSNL postpaid unlimited GPRS.
Thanks.
you dont need to connect vox as a modem.
just use the internet connection sharing and hook up to your PC using the miniUSB cable and thats it.
It works as a charm. No modem drivers no initialisation commands, no crap at all. Just hook up and use.
ain't that easy ?
not able to us internet with USB
i m facing the same issue., the GPRS works fine on mobile but when connected to PC using the USB, i get the error stating that limited connectivity....can u help me...when tried the service providers help line, they say that need to use VOX as external modem. I m sure that those guys are pretty intelligent greeks
Can u help me please
m using Airtel GPRS and based in DElhi India
even I am a airtel subscriber and it works perfectly in my Vox.
The internet connection sharing is flawless and perfect.
Dont even try asking the service providers helpline. They are pretty much useless.
If you get a limited connectivity error then its definitely because of a weak signal in your area. Try it at a place where you have strong connection and it will work like a charm....
Thanks to both prajith and lokeshmudgal.
After going through various forums etc I found out the following which I want to share with you all.
The concept of using phone as a external modem have been stopped by Microsoft to make the things easier. They have instead given a new option of internet dharing to make the thing user friendly. I was able to connect internet in my PC through internet sharing option of the phone but the speed is very slow in comparison to my nokia / sony ericsson etc. Moreover trying to connect net through bluetooth PAN is more difficult.
In fact after using symbian s60 3rd ediition and win mobile 6 I find that browsing is faster in VOX but when using this for internet sharing / modem the browsing is better in Symbian.
A detailed report can bbe found here. Just go through and give your opinion.

Thanks
Hey dude, Thanks...Infact mine VOX was up and running fine at my Desktop... Only that the Laptop had some issue.. Although as for the internet speed, i find that i m getting a pretty fair one..
thanks

Use Nokia internet on HTC TOUCH CRUISE

Hi Friends,
Problem 1-
i have Nokia E56 with internet enabled. now is there anyway that i can use that internet in my HTC Touch Cruise via bluetooth.
Problem 2
i have HTC touch cruise with internet enabled, i share it with internet sharing through bluetooth pan, so can i use this inetrnet via bluetooth on nokia or any other phone i mean i want to make network between phones so i can use one internet connection in two phones.
easy to solve can the nokia use wifi? if so then have a look for HTC Wifi sharing was 'released' recently
or use wmwifirouter which does allow for internet streaming over bluetooth if i remember correctly
You know also i do believe that google could have found the answer...
Then again does the nokia pick up bluetooth pan area networks?? That will be a BIG reason why this wouldnt work

Orange stated i can connect my phone to home wifi to boost signal? Anyone?

is this utter rubbish or what they told my misses if she buys the touch 3g it will connect ot out home wifi and boost signal as we have a low signal reception on orange in our area can anyone explain this to me and how my rhodium can do this also?
it wont boost your signal but obviously you will be able to suft the internet at much higher speeds just switch on your wifi in settings, it should give you a list of availible routers, pick yours, enter the wep key and your up and running
on that note I wonder how hard it would be to hack a, say, DD-WRT firmware set of routers to allow a repeater over the internet (for non tmobile users and their wifi calling! GRR)
I would love to modify a wifi router to catch CDMA/GSM instead of broadcast 802.11, then set it up VPN style to connect to another router that then broadcasts the signal instead of 802.11 (yes i know repeaters exist, but im talking miles away)
wow, first post here and I made myself a winter project! I have plenty of friends who would love to test it with me too ^^
now to avoid the red tape!
What they are talking about is UMA (google it for details) which basically allows you to route GSM traffic over an Internet connection via WiFi.
It's supported on Blackberries, some non-smart-phones (dumb phones), and the touch 3G. It's not supported on any of the other WM or Android devices.
Maybe someone on here can mod up a ROM for the rhodium to support this? It would need the radio from an Orange build of the Touch 3G. There may be other aspects to this as well.
yep the dude who likes trees is right - UMA is only supported on certain phones - one model of nokia, most blackberries and one model of HTC device - The Touch 3G. As far as I was aware though you need an Orange Livebox in order for it to work (Orange's broadband router).
It seems to work as I have a number of users using it at home with work provided phones (mainly crackberries) in areas of no orange reception- but from what I've heard in terms of feedback they're Orange Livebox isn't that great at range and also picks up allot of interference (one user regularly complains it keeps dropping connection).
thanks everyone that was what i thought. i will just have to get a nice ilegal orange gsm repeater on ebay then
My work blackberry works UMA over any wireless network that I have connected to, none of them are orange boxes or orange broadband.
At work we have mostly BT broadband with various routers and wifi access points - Draytek, cisco, dlink, 2wire from bt and at home I have talktalk with huawei and linksys access points.
Just wish I could get uma for other win mobile.

It's not technically correct, but might in effect be true if your phone supports UMA. This effectively routes a GSM call over your WiFi/ADSL and then via internet in Orange's circuit-switched core network. As a result if you previously could not make calls in your home on GSM, magically you now will be able to when within range of your router. They market the service as Unik or Unyk phone.

By the way the Orange UK Unyk/Unik service does not need an Orange Livebox or ISP to work - it is the "open ISP" variety of UMA

[Q] adhoc mode - wifi calling - g2x in the UK

I'm one of those stupid ppl that bought the g2x way back when it was supposed to work on all sorts of bands and what not. Anyways I didn't keep up with the developing story over the spring/summer, went to the UK right after I got it, and after multiple roms/settings and reading a lot, found out US t-mo g2x baseband version apparently doesnt work on 3 and orange 3g networks here (or at&t in the US if i remember correctly).
Anyways i still need internet on my phone. I use a google voice number and when connected to a wireless router here, I could call anyone in the US via google voice and t-mobile wifi calling. It was pretty great. Plus its what i use to check all my emails, pay my bills, etc etc, so internet on my phone is pretty necessary.
We recently switched to a mobile broadband internet provider (connects to computer via usb dongle, uses a sim card on the 3 network). There is no longer a wireless router here. however, both the mac and win 7 home premium machines we have here work fine for internet sharing for other devices doin an ad-hoc wireless setup.
My problem right now is that I cannot find a ROM/mod/config whatever for the g2x that supports both 1) wifi calling, and 2) adhoc wireless connectivity hack that together would allow me to make/receive US calls from the network here. I've tried to setup different programs on each comp that are supposed to broadcast infrastructure mode, but they havent worked right or didnt work on win 7, etc. Besides, I use adhoc networks a lot and want my phone to have ad hoc connectivity enabled.
For enabling adhoc wireless, I've looked at some of the wpa_supplicant patch types for other phones and over versions of android, but havent found any type of g2x/2.3.3 .zip that works universally or separately. several i haven't tried because i'm not sure how much it could/would mess up the g2x.
I'm currently on Xboarder's 2.3.3 OTA tweaked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158513 . As far as I can tell it currently doesnt support adhoc wireless networks. I don't mind moving to a rom with 2.3.4/5 or whatever so much, although I'd prefer to use something with the recent OTA, since they've been less buggy for me. I was doin the CM7 nightlies (having adhoc enabled) recently but also have serious APN problems with it which I imagine is tied to wifi calling not working for me with cm7.
Any questions or suggestions appreciated - I'm mainly just looking for a solid rom thing that supports 1) gapps, 2) wifi calling, and 3) wireless adhoc connectivity. anything else is superfluous at this point. also a working solution to establishing wireless adhoc connectivity on the g2x regardless of the ROM or not would be a dream (esp. after the OTA 2.3.3 update)...and as far as i could find not available.
Or, if someone has a good lead on getting reverse tethering or the baseband version updated to work in the UK (if possible), I'm all ears, but so far solutions in both of those directions have been difficult/impossible to track down.
There's a thread dedicated to this in the SGS2 forum. Maybe some of what's discussed is transferable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066102
one of the links provided in that thread included a how-to webpage for the galaxy S . the wpa_supplicant file provided there worked surprisingly (normally the wrong ones bootloop me). that is, replacing mine with that one worked on a g2x running xboarder's 2.3.3 ota for enabling adhoc wireless connectivity (as I am receiving internet connectivity over an adhoc network connection on my g2x).
however, wifi-calling/my account-device/ etc (t-mobile apps) are not working or not connecting, which issue i'll take up in the thread for the rom itself. the t-mobile APN is visible, which seems to be a positive thing.
also, the wpa_supplicant from the CM7 nightlies bootlooped it, although i guess might be expected to since the one i tried was from 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 i believe.
thanks for the help. think i'm one-step closer to re-establishing wifi calling here.
EDIT: wifi calling is working over the macbook pro adhoc network but not the windows 7 machine's network. the scope of the remaining issues seems to lie with windows 7 internet sharing and not the phone/rom. that is to say, the above wpa_supplicant file gives adhoc connectivity/wifi calling with at least one g2x 2.3.3 rom, and perhaps others. the general adhoc connectivity question comes up occasionally for different phones, and for 2.3.3 on the g2x it seems this is one solution.
