Before I begin, I did search the forums and could not find exactly what I'm going to ask.
I partitioned 256MB of my 4GB SD card to ext4 for Apps2SD (t-Mobile MyTouch 3G running latest Cyanogen and Amon Ra's recovery image 1.6.2). I'm currently running out of space when trying to install new apps and want to resize the partition to 512 or more.
If I go to 'Partition sdcard' from the recovery menu, will it simply resize my partitions and leave the data, or will my data be gone? Alternatively, if I do a backup with BART, change partition sizes, then recover the BART image, will it revert to my previous partition sizes?
Thanks in advance

I'm trying to do a NAND + ext backup (A2SD ext4)
I get the following error after about 45 seconds:
Code:
Error : Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb!
I'm guessing this has something to do with the newish A2SD that's being used on DarchDroid? Like... I'm used to the A2SD apps being stored in /system/sd/app but I don't see that folder structure in root explorer. I still have yet to find where the ext partition is.
I know A2SD is working, under Settings > SD card & Phone Storage: I see the ext partition has about 80MB used and internal phone storage remains at 128MB (I have a few apps on internal storage)
I have it setup with a 32MB swap with 512MB of ext4
Any ideas?
so... what's the error?
Whoops...
I edited the original post, its just a generic nandroid error.
I just flashed not too long ago, so I'm not too far into modifying it. I just did a full wipe of /data and /ext and re flashed. Same error.
it could be because you dont have enough memory on your SD card to make the backup

I'm moving away from DarchDroid anyways... GPS is broken still, going back to FreshToast.
I've been searching for the guide to partition using recovery and setup swap. Are there any guide to do that?
Thanks,
you dont really need a guide for that. all you need to do is boot into your custom recovery, select partition sdcard, and your phone will tell you to change the partition and swap size to what you want. (but dont forget that partitioning your sdcard will format it)
Hello there! if I just want 1gb partition for games,apps, and I got a 8gb card, whats the correct way to do this on 4EXT recovery?
Also one of the things says....
Warning sd-ext2 is not formatted!
how do i format sd-ext2???
how do I go about clearing everything and starting again? there is a option in the wipe/format menu, called Wipe all Partitions (DANGEROUS!), does this clear everything? I dont want to do it without checking with experienced forum members first, so if you can help, please leave below....
You've got one solution
Make a backup from your sdcard on your PC, and format partition and increasing the size of three of them ( system, data, cache, sd_ext and ext2) with your recovery on EXT4.
Like this:
- system => Ext4
- data => Ext4
- Cache => Ext4
- SD-ext => Ext4
- SD-ext2 => EXt4 or Ext3
- sdcard => fat32
then, restore your files on your sdcard.

Use the EXT4 recovery as suggested, although are you sure that you'll need this space as the DS had over 1GB of internal user storage available to you by default. Mine has over 700mb free with all my applications installed.
The un formatted message relates simply to the non existence of the partition and isn't anything to worry about.
To wipe everything, the easiest way is to simply perform a factory reset, either from bootloader or from settings
The wipe all isn't what you are after as this is used by ROM cooks and wipes all partitions, which should only be used when installing new roms

Ok. I have TWRP Recovery installed. But I'm not clear on what to do in order to convert my SDCard...
[EDIT]Disregard above. I just did a nandroid backup including sd-ext. That *is* my SDCard, correct?

sd-ext is on the ext3 or ext4 partition
if youve never done it before. under twrp
Advanced Menu -> Partition SD Card -> Partition SD Card ->
from there set the size for your swap partition, and then the size for your sd ext partition- and it will let you choose ext3 or ext4

Appreciate your help, kendotelie! I'm completely ext4 now
Np. I'm glad I did. I love that my apps don't disappear when I mount the usb storage

On a 32GB Verizon version GS3, when I go to settings > storage, under miscellaneous files, it show "system memory" to be 5.74GB, I looked at an unrooted 16GB version, and system memory was only 3.49GB, of my total 5.8GB miscellaneous files, about 60mb is other files and applications, and the remainder says "5.74GB system memory".
Why is it so much higher on a 32GB vs. 16GB? I mean the system files should not be proportional to internal storage space, right? I don't have a lot of apps, and I have in fact removed a bunch of original system apps, it tells me I have only about 300 mb of /system space available, how is this possible?
I have flashed rooted images from Odin a couple of times, restored NAND about 20 times or more, and rooted via adb once or twice from stock unrooted. Is all this fragmenting the /system partition? Should I format /system next time I'm in recovery? If so, my pc doesn't seem to recognize the phone in recovery when connected. Do I need different drivers to connect while in recovery, so I can mount and format /system? I can format /data and /cache easily in recovery, and when I had my old HTC Evo 4G, I could connect the phone while in cwm and format /system, but I can't on an SGS3. Is there another easy way to format /system before restoring a NAND backup to truly start from scratch on a clean system partition?
Thank you
