Will our Moments be rooted still after 2.1? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Will our Samsung Moments still have root after the 2.1 upgrade? If I remember correctly the kernel is 2.6.27 and will be 2.6.29 after the update so our Zefie Kernels will not produce root on our phones any more.
Are there any new kernels specifically for the Moment 2.1? If not how long will it take to create a working kernel?

The OTA update will usually ruin your root. I am not sure how active the moment dev community is, but I would imagine that the 2.1 will be picked up fairly soon after its release and modded for root. At that point you can just apply the modified update.zip yourself.

Just install a custom Rom. You can find pretty much unaltered custum roms. They're usually ahead of stock. Like me. I'm rooted. Using damage's newest 2.1 hero Rom. I don't need to update when everyone else does, because I already am. The benefits out weigh ne conceivable downfall. GO CUSTOM ROMS.

is the custom Hero rom only for the Hero or can it be applied to the Moment as well?

I'm pretty sure you arent able to use Hero ROMs on the Moment, mainly because what I understand is that the guys who make 'mods' for the moment actually modify the kernel, and when I rooted my fiance's moment, things just seemed different.

hmmn... ok. So how would I go about making a custom kernel/rom for the moment? what is involved? id really like to get into developing and modding but it is complicated for a beginner...

Wifi hotspot

Hey guys thanks to the help of these forums I successfully rooted my aria. I loaded the newest froyo Rom on the forum and even though it was cool and all I could not stand the laggyness even when overclocking. The stock Rom runs so much faster and glitch free. The only feature that I miss from the froyo Rom is the wifi hotspot. Is there a app or work around so that I can have that on the stock Rom.
Thanks in advance, xda is amazing!

^ that works too
Did you try cyanogenmod? You don't get sense but it's well worth it and definitely no lag. Not sure why you had lag with the latest liberated froyo that definitely shouldn't be happening.
It was not that laggy but compared to stock it was.

Use Odin and flash back to stock.
The same thing happened to me. I fixed it by going back to stock and just flashing from the beginning.

Cynogenmod is not ready for prime time. IMO you should stay on 2.2.1 based Rom for a while. Anyway that's just my opinion, it's you who have to make choices between half cooked rom vs fully functional 2.2.1 based rom.

I can't imagine a reason for this captivate to ever be on a 2.2 rom again.

Which version of android are you running?

Just a poll to see what you guys are running, I want to see if most everyone has switched to gingerbread.
I'd actually be surprised if that was the case. I'd imagine most are holding out until there's a simpler way to flash it.
I havn't had time to flash a gingerbread ROM, it is a somewhat lengthy process.
I'm still on 5.12 seren

Firefly ATM. I go back and forth between froyo roms & CM7. Waiting for mikeymikes GB rom to be released & ill probably retire my flashing career there.
C4, then C5, back to C4 until C5 has a final release.
So, technically, it's 2.2.1, 2.3.3, 2.2.1

im with Modest Mandroid...its the only reason why i have flashed to GB. you always always read if you're not sure/dont know how/cant read/cant spell/cant count/cant follow instructions/feel uncomfortable and so on so forth then dont do it!
I believe i could do it, just dont wanna risk my only phone. The froyo ROMs are so simple to do and theres plenty to choose from so that will hold me over for now
Darky10 Rc5.3 Dark Core Voodoo.
Switched back from the Inspire just to rock gb on the Cappy for a bit.

Is MikeyMike working on a 2.3 based rom?
His roms are always the best, and I'd definitely hold out for his rom if one was in the works.
The one that works!
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
Continuum 5 b3. Ive flashed back to all kinds of froyo roms and i flashed sense from the i9000 just to test it out. Ive flashed jvb GB roms here and there and its really not that difficult at all.

(Q) kernel for cm7

Hase anyone find any kernel that works with cm7. Please link the link
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
What do you mean? The cm7 build already has a kernel
Sent from my Doubleshot using XDA App
I know but another one. if ther is another one. Cuz I ve seen alot kernel out there like the og kernel. titan. Incrediblekernel. But those don't work with this rom
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
Alright, let me explain what a kernal does, so you'll understand why exactly they don't work.
The kernals main and only feature is to maintain the hardware and how the phone works, entirely. It's not actually Android User Interface (AUI), but what makes the AUI work and give the usability of the phone to the user.
Each phone has a different base kernal, making it impossible to used on a phone with different hardware. The only kernal available for AOSP/CM is the one that it comes with. If you choose to use the Sense ROM's, some of them work with the OC/UV kernal RomanBB posted linked here.

[q] What is the best rom that uses stock UI

We are stuck with the stock ROM (a modified 2.2) due to the drivers not being open source. All the custom ROMs are just tweaks of the stock one and until someone reverse engineers our phone or we get a 2.3 update (both highly unlikely) you probably won't see much more development. ICS will never happen, the most we will get is 2.2 with an ICS theme
