i logged in just to tell you youre a jacka**. the mods can move it without your opinion.
also @ cloverdale, is it possible to force it to be white without changing colors.xml?
Changing that file changes the colors systemwide. There is also a file called primary_color.xml somewhere (i forgot where it is, but if you want my help, pm me) changing the value there could be a solution. however, i wouldnt recommend changing those unless your making a fully-themed rom
In the styles.xml for the calendar app, there should be a value which the system calls for to fill that color in color.xml. If you change it from that call to #FF000000, you would bypass editing color.xml altogether. I can help you out more on my twitter/androidoverdrive.com.
If you dont want to contact me there, then just send me a pm so I know your interested in my help as I dont check xda often

Please share with how this relates to apps and games section. I see him trying to develop. Maybe you don't belong here.
Anyways, I'd help but I don't know enough yet to do so ;p Hopefully this works out, i'd like it
PEOPLE, STOP HATING ON HIM, IT"S ALL GOOD JUST CHILLAX AND STAY ON TOPIC OR YOU'LL END UP LOOKIN WORSE DEN HIM. Gossh!
It's a good idea. This Calander is getting boring. Can we Sync the new one with Google?
Ehh well it said that he was making it all from source so I figured that he was making a completely new app.
Don't care who hates. Just shows who's childish and who's reasonable =/
OP: Sorry about that.
Really cool idea, I'd love to help but I just got into developing.

Either way, I've hijacked enough of Cloverdale's threads today (even if the other one he joined in), but I can see this is actual development that may get somewhere
I'm very excited to see calendar development. I'd love to see a small area at the bottom reserved for the agenda, so when a given day is highlighted, you can quickly see all events occuring without switching to the agenda. Iphone-style Want development help?

I think as of now, this is more of a way to change the color of it. I'm sure once Cloverdale falls deeper into it, he will begin to mess with it and add in extra features (he may need help then, but he still needs it now)

I had to edit some colors, and hike up a 2000' hill Testing and uploading now.
So, I am interested in making a soundboard for the movie super troopers... Just curious if anyone has any experience making soundboards? Or, would I be better off pulliing a soundboard apk from my phone and just swap out the sounds I want? If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks!
I don't have any soundboard experience...
But just taking an apk and replacing sounds is definitely not something someone should suggest.. Pulling OS information and cooking roms is a little different than taking an app and releasing a dev's work with different .wmv's, that's a little thing called plagiarism..
But if you ask the dev prior to that, I guess it would be ok.. You just need his source..
*edit
look what google found me...

Not advanced at all. There's a reason there are so many soundboard apps on the market. It's just about the easiest, most no-brainer app you can write that actually does anything. Even if you've never even written a basic "Hello World" app, it shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 hours running through the tutorials on the android sdk site to be able to whip up a soundboard.

Oh, I don't think he meant anything derogatory by it. I've been writing code for 20+ years, but I'm still doing a couple crazy simple Android apps just to get myself familiar with the new platform.
There's nothing wrong with writing simple apps as a learning experience. Even experienced coders have to do it from time to time when learning a new language or new platform.
The only part that's a little ridiculous is posting these "Java 101 homework assignments" on the market. Does the world *really* need 5 dozen collections of SpongeBob sound clips?
(No offense intended to anybody, but people should maintain a sense of reality about how appealing their app really is to the general public... I think it's awesome when people post things like this with source code and complete Eclipse project files so that other people can use them as a learning tool, I just question whether simple stuff like this really belongs on the market as a "product". It tends to clutter up my search results when I'm looking for useful stuff....)

What he said! Wasn't making fun of anyone wanting to learn or anything like that a all. Hell, I'm working my way through the "how to make a calculator" guide, myself, lol! I know jack about coding! I was more referring to the fact that some of these guys don't seem to ask themselves weather or not the world really needs "Rosie O'donnel: Bathroom Sounds v.17" before they slap it in the market. I tried to be clear that I wasn't picking on the OP, guess I could have been more explicit? Sorry if there was confusion.
I havent taken any offense here... some soundboards are retarded, and I will be the first to agree... I am just shocked that, with the amount of 1 liners in the movie super troopers, there arent any soundboards for it... (of course, I may be biased, as some people may think this movie was stupid, but I loved it lol)... I have no programming experience, only video/audio editing experience... I found the link "azyouthinkeyeiz" maybe 20 minutes before he replied to this thread, and am trying that tutorial... I am definently looking forward to learning more, and if anyone out there has any websites they can suggest for learning programming, I am more than down to learn!

"I vaunt one... I do I do" lmfao
ok so I got my first board together... From House, MD. Pretty neat, I'd say.
Now what I want to know is this: how can I get them ads on there like all the other apps have? I can send a zip if someone feels spunky enough to help me
As I've eben working on my own theme, I've asked a lot of questions , and (obviously) learned a ton along the way. I've been keeping a log of a lot of it, but, I was wondering if you would all be interested in an "end-all, be-all" guide to theming from scratch? With things like important file locations, tutorials on .9 pngs, decompiling and editing xml, etc. etc.? Maybe I'd even PDF it and have screenshots and everything.
Just something I've thought of, but, it's REALLY not worth it if people aren't interested, bc it'd be time-consuming.
I would definitely be interested. I have been looking for something for awhile now. I have found bits and pieces haven't been able to put it all together and figure it out. I have an app I have been trying to theme to match the clock I am using and cannot get it right. I don't know what I am doing wrong.
This is what happens when I try to theme SwitchPro widget.

Yes, I don't have time to figure it out on my own like you did. So that would be pretty fly.
Hey dmoses, go ahead and attach that .9 png you did for the background of switchpro, and I'll fix it for you real quick.
uhm that would be awesome ive tried changing a bunch of things on my phone on to find out that maybe half ever work and not knowing why lol
I'd love to see this too. I was spoiled with theming for the Palm Pre & would love to get into theming for Android now.
I am always open to answering questions about theming. If I can anyway.
Personally, I learned a lot of my android business from SDX-Developers. There a bunch of us brainstormed and basically relearned android. We pulled a lot of info from XDA yes. And for that I am greatful. However, since so much had to be relearned, a lot of info is documented in the forum. And most devs are still active so getting a response to a question, or at least someone to bounce ideas off of, is pretty easy. Android across the board is very similar no matter what device.
I would first recommend google search being that there are a ton more forums beyond xda with information. SDX is where I usually go for more technical questions or discussion, but then again it is where all the Moment users went when XDA shunned us.
Documentation is key if you want to remain open source so the mods can be used or altered for future use.
+1 Great idea

May I suggest you keep a list of talking points off camera for reference (maybe rehearse it a couple times before recording?)... To avoid all the "uuuhhhss" and "uuuummmms" it would make the videos shorter and make you sound much, much, more professional.

continuum 5 eh? I really wanna get into gingerbread. my damn exams are taking too much of my time. but sooooon
and @Trussello
By changing the density like I did, it gives the illusion of an HD screen with a superAMOLED display which isnt even coming out with the S II :S.
I believe that this is far superior to the atrix's screen and it is in essence turning your captivate 'HD'
I think the title is justifiable.
Thanks for your feedback it is much appreciated and im learning a lot

What kind of a calender widget are you using?
It's great that you're doing this for the community Here's some hopefully constructive feedback:
Try to be more to the point. I was curious to learn some stuff, but i found myself getting bored and impatient, which is a shame. You basically spent 4-5 minutes on unlocking the screen with WidgetLocker, without really explaining what WidgetLocker really is, and on ADW EX, but only showing the setting for the number of desktop columns and rows. There are lots of neat things about both these apps, yet i didn't get to see any of it
Keep in mind who your audience is. For the people who are not familiar with the apps you're showing, you want to make sure you explain things. And you want to keep it brief enough so that people who are familiar with the app you're discussing don't get too bored and quit watching. My expectation going into a video like this would be that you will cover several things, and that i may know about a few of them, but not all of them. So the ones i already know about, i'd like them to be short enough that i don't get bored. And the ones i do not yet know about need to be informative enough that i get a basic idea of what it is and does.
My suggestion would be that for each app you try to give a 1-3 sentence explanation about what it is / what it does, and then demo a few features, without dwelling on it too long. I think you could put together a great video if you were to use a rule of thumb like that for each app and cool thing you want to show. Before you start recording, make a shot bullet list of the things you want to mention, so that you can stay on target. (Don't make a script with sentences, because you'd end up reading the script to the viewer, which really doesn't work.)
I hope that that helps you in some way. Again, it's nice you're doing this. I'm just trying to provide some feedback to help you get better I'm looking forward to more videos from you!
