Question about Facebook built into Sense 2.5 - General Questions and Answers

I have a random question... i believe this should address many phones since it is about the facebook utility built into manila 2.5, but I am working with an HD2
Is there a way to make the "updates and events" section in all people (and now the recently made facebook tab) not show events... only updates.. like basically i don't care about who is going to what, i just wanna see the status updates that fall below events... and i have like 100 events i have to scroll past to get to just updates...
thanks in advance!

Windows Live Mobile Messenger contacts problem

windows mobile live messenger is syncing all the email contacts to my PPC contacts and its getting really annoying. I'm sick of scrolling through my contacts and seeing an entry like "Sek_C_girl_69" or some other crap like that.
I go through and delete the ones i don't want and add my friends emails under there appropriate contact info but they still keep appearing.
Anyone know of some tweak i can do that will not display contacts with only an email address?
You can use the builtin filter.
How?
Just as an FYI,
The next beta version will be MUCH improved in this area.
Don't forget, it's NOT a finished product, and doesn't necessarilly look like the final version. Lots of changes are upcoming.
(can't be more specific than this, sorry)

Go to your contacts application; Choose menu -> Filter and select all your categories. This should work.
I only have 'all contacts', 'recently viewed' and 'No categories' to select.
I've got the following options under filter : All contacts, Recently viewed, no categories, family, personal, colleagues, and more...
I guess i just got to put them all in groups, but then i can't select multiple groups like say i want to see Family, Personal, and Colleagues and not WMLM contacts...?
whats really pissing me off about it is in the SPB Diary plug in, it shows a couple picture contacts, then after that its just emails and i have to scroll forever to get to my real contacts.
They call that program a beta? Alpha at most. All the people I know who've tried it appear offline. (Windows XP/Vist versions) Seriously, bugs that big should be gone far before the "B-word" is used to describe the development stage.

Calendar appointments

Hey everyone....
Does anyone know if we can get the calendar app. on the Fuze to show upcoming appointments like a week in advance? Mine will not show the appointments in the calendar tab until the day it happens. I HAVE SEARCHED The FORUMS ALREADY and could no find the answer, so please if you know it I would appreciate it....or If you can please point me to the right thread I would appreciate it as well as I cant find the answer on my own.
Thanks for the help.
many of us have tried to make Touchflo show more appts, however, its not possible at this time. your best option, if you need this, is to disable touchflo, and download some other homescreen app (ie, spb diary, etc)
And while on the subject of the Fuze calendar, I noticed today that appointments without a start/end time (all day appointments) do NOT show up in the monthly view as little icons on the display.
This is REALLY annoying, as I use glancing at the monthly display to determine if I'm available on a given day for work (I'm a freelancer).
Is there a solution, aside from editing all my all day appointments to give them a start and end time?
Is there another, better calendar program that someone can recommend?

I've been using Pocket Informant for a few years and I can't operate without it...
www.pocketinformant.com:)
Thanks for the reply. That looks like a LOT more features than I need, but it's an intersting app.
Can you confirm that an all-day appointment with no set start or end time made on Outlook on the dsktop shows on the Fuze display with pocketinformant?
After further investigation (I'm new to Outlook, having used Palm Desktop for a decade or so), it seems that in Outlook if you enter an all day event, you must also mark the event/day as "BUSY" instead of the default "FREE", and then a "something is happening this day" icon shows up in the Fuze calendar monthly view.
SBSH Calendar Touch
assign it to a (left) softkey
this is something that is still really bothering me, and i know that there are alternatives, but i personally love tf3d, so i was thinking, is it possible to have a calendar tab that shows your next 5-6 appointments? i know that there is a calendar tab floating around, but it just shows you a month calendar. if there was a way to set that tab to show your upcoming appts, that would solve my, and many others as well, problem. thanks

I second that. It would be nice to have a customizable today (TAB) that we could put the today screen or if not possible just appointments.. Hopefully some handy XDA'er is working on it....

Media/Time Scape

I am a Happy X10 User, coming from the HTC Magic. At first, adjusting coming from the Magic to the X10 was hard, I liked SO MANY THINGS about the Magic that the X10 didn't have (in terms of software). And then I started playing around with Timescape and Mediascape.
WOW! Timescape is absolutly useless.
On the other hand... Mediascape! GREAT APPLICATION! Sony should have ditched timescape, and only gone with Mediascape, as timescape acts mostly as a reader.
What they need to do really is allowing editing/replying right inside timescape. For example, you read a message in timescape, yet you have to go to another app to reply to it!??
Timescape reminds me of TouchFlo3D on WM early on before HTC learned what consumers wanted.
What does every1 want from Times/Media scape in 2.1?
timescape needs to do everything twitter and facebook can do. or at least 85%. i'm talking about re-tweeting, mentions, direct messages, post pictures on twitpic and facebook, upload videos within an update, etc.
if it gets ALL of that, timescape be ballin'

Yea I think everything needs to be more fully integrated. If it is, it might be a bit more competitive with sense.
Timescape Improvements

Sadly right now Timescape serves very little purpose (if any), that's why most of us never even open it. I'll apologize right now for the length of this message...
TIMESCAPE NEEDS:
RSS feeds
Capability to read ENTIRE message not just a small portion (seriously wtf SE??)
Ability to reply, like, comment, tweet, call, sms, etc. all within Timescape
Option to choose which app Timescape opens i.e. dedicated FB app/Twitter client
YouTube integration, like subscriptions etc.
Ability to add ANY social network you may use or even XDA forums!! woot woot! (I guess that would be tapatalk?)
Better filtering options for facebook:
-I do not want status updates on my phone from 500 people I don't care about
(and don't say it's our own fault for adding that many people on facebook, there's lots of people we interact with on a daily/weekly basis, and then the majority of others we use facebook to just keep in touch with)
-Why only status updates and not messages, replies, likes, comments too??
-Facebook events (parties, birthdays, etc)
Integrate all a contact's activity in facebook (or respective spline) into ONE tile, maybe open up a large tile to display all (threaded) sms messages from contact
More options for widget! Size, filtering options, minor functions like scrolling tiles and sliding between splines. Right now it's just a shortcut for Timescape. And while you're at it add the missing Mediascape widget too...faack
Calendar and Task integration into dedicated splines
(maybe it's just Android but wow...compared to my blackberry something seriously needs to be done here for both)
Last but not least...integrate my F*%&ING contact photos!! Does it not seem like this is a standard feature of the X10 in all advertising campaigns?!
from my twitter @SonyEricssonNA and @SEAnswers:
Why doesn't the X10 integrate phone contacts' facebook profile pictures into the phone?? Such an obvious missing feature
SEAnswers @rvictorg I believe that is a feature implemented in Android 2.0 OS. Let me check and get back to you.
SonyEricssonNA @rvictorg it does in TimeScape so you should see your contacts fb pics in the spline, if you link the tile with a contact, it should sync.
They're right, it SHOULD sync. That was nearly a month ago, I sent them both back messages and haven't got a response from either. And yes, this is not nearly important as the other missing features, it'd just be nice if the phone natively did it without a 3rd party app like syncmypix.
ok so a little long MAYBE, BUT after all, this is the highest end device they make and the way carriers and SE have been advertising it a lot of those features should have been standard, Timescape is supposed integrate everything in your life into one glorious app no?? I just hope someone from SE reads XDA and can implement some of them. Peace.

^^ i agree with the above message
I've kinda realised that all Timescape does is look good... I don't use it, but I like it...
I should remove it from my home, but it just seems empty without it...
Silly really...
No not silly. I feel the same about the timescape widget and didn't remove it from my homescreen

[Q] LauncherPro calendar widget with facebook events

Hey all,
I'm having a really annoying problem on my android device. Basically facebook events do not get removed from the calendar/agenda when you change from 'attending' to 'not attending' This is particularly annoying to me because I am trying to get rid of a multiple day event (may 4 through june 11) and it clutters every single day of my calendar/agenda. If anyone knows of a way to remove facebook events from the LP calendar/widget please let me know.
Thanks

A very key missing feature from Android...

First off I love my GNex... such a great phone and I love Android. However there is one feature missing that is probably keeping it from being used more in business. That feature is per folder notification. What I mean by that is if you have an exchange account configured on your phone and in your Mailbox you have a rule to move email from certain senders to a certain folder you will not get any sort of notification that you have received that email (yes the folder is set for Push Sync). If you check your email and click on your account name at the top you can see if there are emails as they do sync and show how many unread messages are in that folder so the possibility is there.
It seems like such a simple fix for something that would have a large impact. I had 2 co-workers all set to get an android phone and when i told them about this limitation one got an iPhone and the other is going to wait for the Windows 8 phones.
I am aware there are third party apps (not cheap) that supposedly provide this feature (touchdown) but aside from providing that feature I havent heard great things about them (and all seem to negatively affect battery life).
I was really hopeful that it would be addressed in JB but it still remains untouched after all these versions

Have you tired Tasker?
Oh I'm aware there are apps that can help you with this but it should be a core functionality of the email.apk.
More apps doing stuff means worse battery life and more to backup/restore. Its hard to sell to business customers when their argument is "well with the iPhone it just works"
that's one thing that I really miss from my TP2 running winmo is the "persistent notifications" (that's what I call them anyhow). If you dismiss the notification in the curtain on android then its just gone. My old TP2 would show notification bubbles anywhere and everywhere you could think of.
if you had a text it would show on the text icon, if you were looking through your contacts it would show notification bubbles for text/call/email right on the contact info
i guess gmail.apk has that

and apparently devs aren't making use of it?

Many custom launchers (Nova, Apex, etc) give you the option of showing unread counts on the icons of apps such as SMS, Gmail, etc. Those shouldn't disappear when you dismiss notifications, so that would at least solve half your problem!

If I was on an ICS+ rom that would be more helpful, but it's something to look forward to at least. Although none them seem to have that feature for standard email which is where I miss it most.
I'll have to check out holo because I believe it at least does the same sms and calls.

I did this with LauncherPro back when I was on Android 2.3, so I'm guessing it should work with that for you?
