Be aware of this developer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Android Apps and Games

Okay so I recently purchased an app on the market called "Soccer Score Centre" the developer is "Pants Software" and his website is "www.pantssoftwaree.com" So I purchased this app and it didn't quite work as it said it would. I wasn't getting goal notifications or any alerts on my nexus one. I checked other peoples comments on the market and some had the same issue. I sent developer an email letting him know it want working and he replied within a few hours about looking into the issue for me. well a week later I hadnt receive any response or fix to the issue and thats okay I understand that devs are busy but I already paid for this app and honestly i didn't feel I have gotten what I paid for.
So since this was international I couldn't refund the app and I wasn't even asking for a refund so I decided to post on the market my issue with the app so others can see, I mean I have every right to post my issue with an app and rate it how ever the hell I want on the comment are for any app so others can be aware that this is a common issue. I always respect the hard work and dedication of a dev so I never post something untrue or harshly negative. I posted this: "App since to have issues with goal alerts and notification, and its still doesn't have MLS"
thats it! nothing wrong with that....well here is the email I receive from the developer this morning:
Hi XXXX,
I see you must have gotten bored putting poor comments on other score score apps so decided to return to ours and give out your low ratings - so are you really that disappointed with EVERY football score app, if so I'd suggest that you get an iPhone or perhaps just not download any apps.
Or are you from a competitor like Bernd from Livescore said.
I've already given you a refund previously and yet you repurchased, rest assured you won't be getting another.
Regards.
First of all I don't know what hell he is talking about "competitor" or who the hell is "Bernd" but I am just a regular android user with a nexus one who downloaded this app, paid for it, didn't get his moneys worth and posted my comments on the market like everyone else does and now I get this harassing email and on top of that a few minutes after I receive this email I received about 12 spam emails from unknown sources and sites I have never heard of or signed up with and some were located in the UK, where this developer is from. So is it a coincidence I receive this angry email from him, and then I get spam emails a few minutes after all from the same location (UK)? I think not. Well I think this is BS that a developer has the right to take your email and use it for fraudulent purposes, only because he didnt like a comment about his app. I am still getting spam in my inbox and who know what else he is using my email for. Anyone know how I can report this to Google or the android team?

That's crazy, can't you report him to some scam watch, or spammer government set up agency? In Aus we have scamwatch.gov.au for example.
That's a massive violation to use your email to sign up for spam. What a really disturbed person they must be.

Personally I would reply to him, explain what you've said here and tell him you will be looking to report him to anyone you can and bad mouth his poor customer service to anyone that will listen.
I would then change your score to 1 star and explain the developer has actually started spamming you etc.

I already mentioned it to him and we went back and forth on emails. very rude dev he kept saying how I bad mouth other devs and he didnt even have proof and then tried sending me a link to an android market listing where you can see your own comments and he didnt even have the right one. I was respectful to him but overall he is an a**hole with a negative 10 star rating in my books

We should report that developer.

Sent an email to Google and have them look into this developer.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I've bought this app and exchanged a number of emails with the developer and have found him to be very helpful and professional. Looking at the feedback for the app on the Market would support this - so I find it difficult to believe the OP claims. Indeed searching across XDA I can see posts from other users who have had similar good experiences with the dev.
Perhaps people should check the app feedback for themselves before reacting to any unsubstantiated claims....

XDA SMS Forum

Hello Guys,
I've been on here for a while, and I've recently started my own business call Peekamo. It's a SMS based forum system (not made to replace this forum at all, more like a VERY IMPORTANT POSTS ONLY FORUM), along with personal SMS to anyone at no cost (aka FREE). These are all "real" sms, not smtp so that means not you or the receiver gets charged.
This is my attempt at causing a ripple in the high priced SMS market that the providers currently take advantage of.
So please try it out and let me know what you think. It's still in beta, so please understand if something things are out of place. I would really appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have.
I've already created a forum for XDA users, you can create your own if you wish. Our service currently works in US and Canada, and we're working on getting the rest of the world ready by the end of the month.
Thanks and hope to hear from you all soon.
The site is peekamo.com

Thank you. Our vision for this concept came by when my partner and I were at a club with another friend. After about 2 hours our friend gave his number to this girl that he met. At 6:00 we were at a breakfast place when all of a sudden the phone rings, and guess who it was. Yup, it was the girl. She called every few hours after that bothering him and sending him text messages.
That brought on the idea of anonymizing cell phone numbers by linking them to an ID with the ability to block out people from texting you. When you're finished with an ID and picked up all the girls/boys that you've ever wanted to, just change your ID and the connection is over right there and then.
Other then the anonymity feature, we found that we need to create a community presence so that everyone can use their new Peekamo IDs with others and share common intrests without giving up their phone number.
I don't even use my email as much as I use my peekamo id, and when I use email I sign it "dont' even think of replying, just peekamo me."
Hope to see more of you there.

Ok, So a couple of questions:
1. I signed up, it sent me 2 different "codes" through sms to use as verification, but neither is working. I will be glad to send more information if you wish, let me know your preferred method (PM, email, etc). I guess that wasn't really a question, but whatever.
2. When you say free, how is this done? I pay per text message on Cingular. Your website says "Save more money on your phone bill by using Peekamo.com and send and receive SMS at no cost." I am still going to pay per text message to Cingular, right? Have you figured out some way for them to not charge me per text message? As an example, I am sure I'll be paying $0.20 for the two previously mentioned text message "codes" when I get my Cingular bill. If you have figured out some method for me to use sms from my phone, at no cost, well, holy crap.
3. This ain't no question either. I just want to say regardless of the answers to my above questions, thanks for jumping in to the arena and providing something. We need more people willing to jump.

1. Make sure enter your phone number, email address, and code. Becareful you are not entering zero for O and vice versa. I will check your code in a bit
2. You WILL NOT BE CHARGED for the messages you received, nor will you be charged for any messages sent through the Peekamo network. You are right on the money, just like you pay .20 per msg, Peekamo pays per messages. We subsidize it through ad text at the bottom of the message of up to 20 characters. I think that is fair, no? Peekamo is one of only full no charge sending or receiving text message service in North America, everyone else uses SMTP, so you send free but the receiver pays.
3. Trust me, I know all about the lack of services such as ours. I fully intend on making waves in the industry that's monopolized by the carriers. With enough users on our network, we could seriously cause carriers like Cingular to rethink their 50% price increases in text messaging.
out of curiosity... how do you make money on this? since you stated its your business... is it from the advertising alone?
Do be completely honest. Right now, we don't make money. And it's not all about money. You tube never made a cent, and till today they show negative loses. We are trying to create a service that will be noticed and that will help the mobile community.
We also don't let businesses come on and start their own groups. Businesses pay to create their own private groups just like any other forum or service.
Our goal is to be wide spread and known, not to just make money.
You should go on to the site and check out the about us section, in there you will find all the information you are looking for.

App contest!

I've just updated my Payday Android app and I'd like to start a new project. As they say, necessity is the mother of all invention so I'm asking you guys. What kind of app would you most benefit from? What app have you longed for that just isn't out there yet, or if its out there and doesn't meet your needs. I want you guys to send me PM's or Email at [email protected]gmail.com with your ideas for an Android application. I'll take suggestions for the next week or so and pick several realistic ones. I'll then add those to a poll and let you guys vote on which one you want, or the one you would get the most use out of. The person who made the original suggestion will get a special prize and a free copy of the app once its finished.
In the case of more than one person suggests the Same winning App, the first person who contacted me with the idea will get the prize, however everyone who contacted me with the winning idea will get a copy of it free.
And please send me a PM or Email because I've read too many articles about forum lurkers on here snatching ideas, so this should help deter that somewhat. So let the suggestions roll. Thanks guys.
I think it's best idea
I know that people looking for call recording app on Froyo (Android 2.2).
There is idea that OS don't let this, but, maybe, you so good programmer that is not prolem for you.
Ill add it to the submit list, thanks.
So, what you are saying is you want a bunch of ideas on new apps from people and you want them all to your self, by offering up some free t-shirt or something?
Nice. Wish I'd thought of it.
I'm thinking a tax helper, for like tax season lol. And help with balancing your checkbook and junk. Sounds good.

I'm happy to see that it worked but the job isn't done yet. I think they delayed the hearing for the bill.

I'm surprised facebook didn't do anything to help on blackout day (today). That would have made a tremendous impact.
i think facebook does not want to stop its millions of users ,
but who knows ?
Google didn't have to shut down entirely to get over 4 million signatures. Even just a small banner somewhere on the page would have done the job.

I strongly agree. Facebook would certainly be one of the most damaged websites with this law. From what I've read, this law requires websites to actively monitor posts before they're even online. Whenever you posted something to facebook you would see something like "this post will be published after it has been approved by Facebook". The internet like we know it would cease to exist.
Yes, it certainly was noticed and has made some difference...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-16623831
wow thats alot of signatures , i think that there should be another blackout so more signatures can be generated . The more signatures the higher the possiblity of the bill not being passed.
Despite the obvious "but they would say that" type answers, and conspiracists out there, I think what the Whitehouse is saying is pretty promising. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.
I think if they would have blacked out Facebook for a day, that is all that would have had to be done. I know a couple of people who are Facebook addicts and shutting it down for a day would have caused an uproar. I doubt Google could have done a full shutdown because people are so dependent on it, but Facebook should have done more. Whoppdy dooo, a black banner over Facebook's label.

Can a dev target a specific device in play store?

Call me paranoid but I recently gave a dev a bad review of his software from playstore which got me thinking that if he wanted to, since devs some times communicate with reviewer without having given them your email, he could create an update that would target my phone based on my email. Assuming my email is used on my phone.
Is it possible?
My understanding is that apps require your permissions to do anything that could be considered a safety hazard, like accessing your contact list or full internet access. Check what permissions have changed for the update before you install. Of course there is always the possibility of subversive code within any program.... I haven't heard of any problems like that yet.....

i doubt this, but anything is possible I'm sure with enought effort and hackery.

Sending you an email? I don't think that can bypass GMail's alerts and receive the apk in the background.
Although there are other ways of performing unethical activities.
Go see the app's data usage. If it's not an app that needs Internet so much than the data usage must be very low. But if the data usage goes very high and u donno how then that could be something fishy.
That can also be actual normal usage. You have to reason it right.

What I mean by "email" is I've written reviews in the past, I then get an email to my gmail account that is the same gmail id on my phone that I also use for playstore. The email from the dev I just addresses my review. This has happened more than once. So that tells me that when you review an app the dev some how gets your email.
So, I'm thinking I write a bad review, dev gets pissed, pissed enough to create an update to the software that targets any user that has a specified "email" on the device. The update says "bug fixes" but along with bug fixes he targets any device that has the target email.
I have no idea if this is possible but I don't see why not if he knows my email and can get the software on my phone with an update.
Again, I know it's a little paranoid, I'm just wondering if it's possible, theoretticly.

I really doubt this would happen, Developers cant get your email from leaving a review, at least not from the developer panel.. there are many times I would have loved to email and help people that just cant be bothered to email me for support so leave a 1 star rating.
If the app was paid for then they could get your email through google checkout by looking for your transaction.
<rant>As a developer I hate not being able to reply to ratings and reviews, nearly all the 1 star and 2 star reviews of my apps are stupid things that are easy to fix but the reviewer is far to lazy to ask for help. And alot seem to think you can reply to reviews, I get alot that say they need help but not leave any way to contact them </rant>

Well I can assure I've been contacted after posting a review. Also recently the devs have post responses to reviews that appear right below the review. Also they are purchased apps most of the time.
You do bring up a good point. Its not entirely fair to post a review without contact the dev first. In my case it was an issue about the hidden costs once you buy an app.

Yes they are rolling out the ability to directly reply but its only for the 'top' devs at the moment.
If they are paid its likely they found your transaction and contacted you.
Yes i think more people need to stop and email the dev (we infact offer every level of support going. Live chat/forum/email and yrt it still happens) often the issue is fixable and a mistake by the dev.
However that of cause isnt always the case

I think the main question is in fact what I asked, is it possible for a dev to write code that can target a phone that uses a specific email and does nothing to any other phone. Common sense tells me it would be possible, zero coding sense tells me to ask, I just wanted to hear from someone with more knowledge than me if it can be done.
I don't actually "know" that he would do anything and maybe he would just blow it off as he received several similar reviews to mine. Again, it got me thinking as to whether it could be done. That's all.

Can it be done? Yes. Is it easy, practical or ethical? Not in the least. It would rely on many factors that I will not get into. But it can be done. I wouldn't worry to much about a developer doing it. They would lose too much if it was found. Developers get bad reviews all the time.

gave away an app for free to thousands of people but once i lost everything noone cared

a few years back i had an app made it got rather succesful called arc lighting and that helped me a lot more than anything has since my dead youtube channel years earlier which was something i never recovered from, so i decided to give back to the xda community by giving free codes which also got my app out there i copy pasted a code thousands of times, one of those people was so thankful he offered to work on the app for free, i accepted, i realized it ended up being a lot of work so after a bit of free work i offered money for it instead as i felt it was unfair to take work for free even though thats exactly what he offered, so we ended up working together on it, until i paid the last time to have the app fixed and reworked, he kept delaying the work the last response from him was in march and after that gone he just vanished with the money i paid.
now my app is dead and there is nothing that can revive it like other things in my life it's dead and buried i abondoned it and just added a disclaimer text not to download the app many still own it so i can't take it off the playstore, despite the fact that i gave it away to thousands of people here noone cared, not once did a receive a pm saying thankyou or anything not once did anyone even offer help when i created threads about this months ago, not even a response in those threads
i tried to give back to the xda community but it feels like it never mattered, i am not saying anyone owes me anything i chose to give this app away for free, but i do wish someone at least would have offered any help when i really needed it instead i just had to watch my work die with no chance of ever coming back, it just goes to show you're always on your own when it comes to misfortune
not a single reply guess you always are on your own despite what you do

Sorry to hear, but lots of apps come to an end, and regarding the PlayStore, you will have to address that, with that agency.
