just curious, has anyone been able to tether htc hero to ps3. Been trying, but ps3 wont detect it.

I don't even think with wifi on the speed of internet your PS3 will get wil pass for anything online
Pretty sure Sprint's 3G doesn't have quick enough burst speeds to play online. I tried that with a 360 once and it didn't work too well.
Yes, I use Sprint and have and HTC Hero, which I installed PDANet (by junefabrics.com) which I connect to my PC via USB... then I also use a program called "Connectify" which, if you are running Windows 7, will use your wireless card as an "infrastructure" device, letting you connect to the internet with your PS3. I lag some when playing CODMW2 but overall it kicks ass!
Hm unless you have full 3G bars.. i dont think you would make it pass the Signed in notifications. Online game play would be choppy.. really

I used a PC that had a wireless connection and a lan connection. You can use a laptop. Bridge wireless connection with LAN. Connect with ethernet cable. I used a normal cat5 but everyone says use crossover. Turn on xbox, hit repair on the bridged connection. Play XBOX!! Worked flawlessly with halo. Had lag with NHL.

Pretty sure it depends on where you are. It works perfectly fine for me, playing SoCom and streaming medium quality video. Had to tether to computer then share to wifi router.
There's an app for ps3 media server in the market, that turns your hero into a media server. It's works pretty good for media, not internet though.

Wrong. I game on one bar, 3G.
For a windows 7 laptop with a wireless card in it.
1) Go to junefabrics.com and select pdanet for android.
2) download the PC version.
3) on phone, go to market and download pdanet free edition
4) google (topeka) Connectify and download and install
5) set up conectify as a infrastructure (NOT AD_HOC)
6) connect your hero to laptop via USB and turn on pdanet, connect to internet
7) enable connectify
8) set up your ps3 to connect to your connectify "router"
9) play online on your ps3!

Because I tried but my ps3 won't run.
i googled it a while back got it to semi work but never fully functional you cant auto detect the settings have to manually put them in
same thing for xbox 360, I've tried wireless and wired (bridge over pc) tethering in the past, fails at NAT (network address translation)
To be honest, I have no idea why you would try. Even under the best 3G conditions, any game would have a high risk of lagging hardcore. I can see if there is no internet, so bummer, but I don't think it would be very playable.

I've played several games over 3G on laptop... it's not *quite* as bad as you'd think, with a good signal, it just depends on what games you're playing... just don't go around expecting to play any massive multiplayer first person shooters over 3g

AFAIK PS3 does not support ad-hoc wireless networking. The PSP certainly doesn't...
Not really considered adhoc tethering. Should work if you know the proper setting for the PS3. Physically I guess it is adhoc but the PS3 should recognize the Hero as regular access point... so technically it's not.
I was a PS3 technician at SCEA.
So since I don't have any Wifi to connect to I've got the pc tethered to pc. i'm sharing it's internet connection.

Anyone know how to get hero to serve as a hotspot rather than an adhoc network? I can do it with the new version of wifi tether on my evo, but not the hero. I've tried a dozen different versions and setups.
Also, for those who think its too slow; I play modern warfare online all the time with evo 3g connection with no issue. Also stream justin tv and ps store movies. May just be a reception issue for some.

Infrastructure mode is now being supported for certain devices if you go to the google code site for wireless tether for root users. I can't say for sure whether it works for the Hero or not, though.
What I do is with my w7 laptop, I have an ethernet cord running from the laptop to my ps3 or xbox, whatever I decide to play. I have my hero flashed with dc 1.2(?) for the correct PRI to do mobile network sharing, then I connect my hero, turn on MNS< bridge the connections, and I game online (all the time) and have a rare lag here and there, and an occasional boot, but nothing to get pissed over. it's a blast, really!
3G wifi Tethering without laptop
I tryed to connect my PS3 wiresly to my Tilt 2 using but it never seems to find it. I dont have a computer and 3G WiFi on my cellphone is all i got. Any tips to get a Tilt 2 wiresly connected to a PS3?
Wireless Tether for Root Users creates an Ad-Hoc network, which the PS3 can't identify.
Sadly the only way to do it IS to have an internet connection to the computer and set up a public network via wifi.
Edit: Overlooked the ethernet cable method, my mistake.

This is exactly what i do but with winXP. I get some lag every now and then but multiplayer is surprisingly very playable over 3g.

I think the Hero is missing certain drivers that can only support an actual hotspot connection rather than ad-hoc.
I have a Sprint hero and just want to say it is possibly to play online using the wifi tether. Though ive only done it on the xbox 360 but see no reason why you wouldnt be able to do it on the ps3. You connect as if it were a router and thats it!! I only had two bars and still played MW2.. just try it

I try that already it dont really work for me, you really need to get good signal if you going to connect wifitethering if the signal strong it might be picked up on ps3. But if you connect to ps3 with wifitether your game that you playing might lag cause of connection from your phone
Is there a program or way i can use remote desktop without having a router connect to my laptop. So using the built in wifi on the laptop to connect to my HD2.
Or even bluetooth..

are you trying to basically surf the web from your laptop using your HD2?
you need something like internet sharing which is available on the Device itself (its a standard Windows thing). you need to set it up though, and of course make sure your device has internet access (GPRS/whatever connection methods).
Nah not using the internet, but to view and control my pc from my phone over wifi.

but anyway...dont think it is possible like that as the wireless on the laptop will not act as a DHCP (like a router does) to give an IP to clients who are connecting to it.
It would be cool though to be able to use it as a remote control to perhaps skip or play music etc. But connecting through wifi would be impossible i think.
I recall with my old old old sony ericsson phone I could connect to my computer using a bluetooth dongle and control music and even the mouse cursor...such an awesome feature. A bluetooth program for the HD2 would be good providing you have a bluetooth dongle.
funny you should mention an app like that as I developed an app a few years ago which does just that called WMP Remote.
basically, you connect it via bluetooth or wireless (as long as you get an activesync connection going, or even wireless with a router) and then get a list of files from a certain directly, play/pause/vol up/down from the Mobile application and play files in full screen and so on....
haven't updated it in a LONG time but was a big hit back then.
also developed another app called DAR~ling, which is a Digital Audio Recorder

It looks an awesome App, but does not work with WM6.5 & Windows 7 (not sure which one cause the issue).
IMHO worth some re-development and putting on Windows Market Place $$$ I'd buy.

not sure why it doesnt run on your devices? I ran it on my Samsung omnia which runs WM 6.1 - works fine.
I've also got a WM5 device...works fine on that. the issues are just the screen display!

Well has the title says, I connected my Android phone to my xbox 360, but the question is whats your experience, doing this. Do you get lags, cause sometimes, I do. Can you connect to party mode or invite people to game match, cause i can only do this with specific people, (I guess because of their internet speed), and is there any hints of getting better online play experince.
I dont have answer to your ? but, how do you connect your phone to the xbox360 and can you use your phone like a controller IE: to move through the menu?
I connected my laptop to my HTC inspire by using its WiFi Hotspot, then afterwards I connect my xbox 360 to my laptop by using Ethernet Cable, and to set it up, go to "Control Panel" > "Network and Internet" > "Network and Sharing Center" > "Manage Network Connections" and when your there, highlight both connection icons (One most likely be called "local Area Connection") thats represents your Xbox 360, and (other is Wireless Network Connection") that represents your HTC internet. When both are highlighted right click and choose the Bridge Connections. When that is complete go into your xbox and test your connection and your done.
And the phone controller, im not fully sure what you mean?
i really cant imagine xbox live would be anything more than crappy using a tethered internet connection from your mobile phone. perhaps im wrong but id use a more reliable internet connection.

I seen some where on here that some user were able to use their phone to control the wii but not sure which phone, but What I was thinking was using my phone to move through the dash board of xbox rather then using the controller

you can connect a wii remote to your android phone to play your nes, snes, gba, n64 and etc, (You can find it had a app from the market) But it didnt work with my phone.
Using it has a remote to scroll around your xbox, is not posssible or maybe for now.

My experience was, for the most part, laggy. But there were definitely times when I could play online lag-free. I've had entire sessions (more than a couple of hours) where it was entirely smooth as if I was on a traditional router.
As for improved online play experience, that solely depends on speeds. As your data speeds increase, so will your online play experience.

I do this on a daily basis. I don't have to much trouble with it. I do have Moderate NAT and sometimes I hit huge lag spikes and get lagged out of the game. But it works okay for the most part.
I just bought a WNDR4500 router and I need some help,
Here is my setup
PC connected to router via ethernet cable.
Shield connected to router via wifi.
There is no active internet connection becuse I use 3g for that stuff
My problem is splashtop does not show my pc how do i make it show my on my shield?

yes, Splashtop THD now detects my pc, however splashtop personal does not detect it.
Also my link speed is only 300mbs. even though Iv chosen upto 450mbps, channel 40, and only 5ghz band is turned on.

I pretty sure 300 is the Shield's max connection. Im not sure about the splashtop thing. y not just use THD if works?
THD works amazingly well when hooked up to my 560m nvidia gpu or HD 4000 gpu laptop, the problem is if you want to play something like Metro last light you dont have enough keys to map since the the d-pad is pre locked to WASD along with left stick. Im not sure if they will add support for shield.
I have unlimited high speed data with T-Mobile but only 7GB mobile hotspot. I just moved into a brand new apartment and could buy DSL (yuck) right now, or wait for them to run the cables so I can get cable internet. Only problem is the cables won't be ready for over a month. So a month without internet.
I want to tether to my PC to make a hotspot for my phone, xbox, and other devices. I have tried quite a few things so I'll list them. I have an HTC 2PST2 and I've tried to root it, but since it's new and not too popular no one has made a root for it (that i know of, if you know one let me know).
1. PdaNet+ works with wifi, but it doesn't hide my tether usage when I'm on wifi. So after the 7GB is slows down to 125 kb/s. Before I hit the data ceiling my other devices were getting 20down/12up. I used it to play Xbox Live and it worked perfectly. I could talk to people in party and play multiplayer. Once I ran out of data I tethered my phone to my Xbox and ran detailed network statistics check and it was 0.1down/0.1up like I expected.
2. What I've been doing now is using ClockworkMod to usb tether. When I do a speed test on my computer my speed is 20down/12up. So the computer is fine. The problem is when I try to share it.
3. If I share (sharing by going into network settings & sharing in windows 7) my internet to my Xbox with an ethernet cable I can get on Xbox Live. I can do solo missions on Destiny, but if I try anything with matchmaking it never finds anyone (strict NAT). If I do find someone for a Strike (3 people) it is extremely laggy and I usually end up disconnecting. I also can't get into parties on Xbox. I would give you the speeds, but everytime I try to run a detailed network statistics check it never returns anything.
4. If I use connectify-me to make my computer a hotspot I'm getting 20down/12up on my PC, but 1down/2up when I check the speed on my iphone. I can't test on my Xbox, but it connects to live, but I think the connection is just too slow like when I was on 125kbs with PdaNet.
5. If I make an ad hoc network I get 3down/2up on my phone, but ad hoc shows up as a device and not a network so my Xbox can't connect to it.
So, with all of that knowledge, keep in mind I can't root. How can I use my phones data to play Xbox live like I did with PdaNet before I hit the data limit? If I can make a hotspot where the device is getting 5down/5up I think that would work too. Any help is much appriciated.
