[ROM-beta] DamageControl v1.1 - Beta ROM thread! - Newest Eris leak! - Hero CDMA Android Development

Due to popular demand (and the lack of time I have to check everything that I release), I am starting a beta program with beta testers. So let's start with what I'm sure will be the FAQ.
How will it work?
I will now be PMing those of you whom have donated to beta test for me, and others who have been helpful along the way. Please do not PM me about getting into the Wave, I will be starting a NEW wave with only those I invite!
How can I become part of the beta test program?
You have to be invited. Refer to the above.
What about us normal folk?
There will be public releases posted in this thread, where everyone can post about both the private and public beta releases and what is going on. The other thread was getting far too cluttered.
I want to help!
All you need to do is become part of the Wave. If you get in the Wave, and you can help develop in any way, or you can simply flash the ROM and try it for awhile, go for it! Any help is appreciated

At last...first page
Edit:
Dear Damage,
As I have completely given up trying to keep up with the original thread, the Wave idea couldnt have possible come from my suggestions, could it?
Pm'ing my ID now !!!!!!

Count me in

I PM'd you my wave ID. I hope I'm not to late. I would really like to help if possible!
EDIT: Just checked my wave browser. Thanks for adding me!

just flashed to 1.1 that was leaked the first night.
Think im going to try this also, flashing now

Count me in also will PM you now.

Weather Current Position not correct
The Current Weather position is still off like 30 miles. Maybe this was not fixed in the leak.

What's new in this build? Is the new Eris dump incorporated? Anyway, I'm going to PM you my GWave account in a few minutes. Is it the same as my email address but @googlewave.com?

This has the latest Eris build.

Damage,
BTEP worked perfect in b4, but in b5 I'm getting the "not permitted!" error when I try to reboot or reboot recovery from the terminal.
I've tried w/ usb debugging on and off, with and without the almquist shell.
Any suggestions?

flashed, and up and running, testing out a few things, so far so good!
i set up youmail for visual voice mail.
wishing i had google voice =\

Couple of questions about beta5. Does it need the mms fix? Does it need the build.zip update. Lastly does it need the preferred network changed to cdma auto prl?

you should have google nav ..its very good ...way better then Sprint one IMO

I am quite excited to see a real collaborative effort be taken on by a group within wave. Hopefully we can do this and keep the wave even half as on-track as the original Damagecontrol thread has been.

Sorry for the late reply but yes its a 32b Rom and as far as wifi i havent tried it out yet if it doesnt work plz let me know.
does the music app work ? in other releases it would force close. if it works ill flash and give it a try
well, i tried it and the keyboard FC. also the lock screen jumps between lock and main screen. it wouldnt let me make phone call or text. i will wait for further updates. just fyi to everyone else.
Will I be able to flash this on my phone and then some 32a kernel patch??
Or will that cause a brick?
Same here locks up keyboard on setup... nice looking rom tho
Just a thought here... and if not I understand. But could you make a version that simply has everything installed to /system which will make the rom incredibly fast even without swap. That way we would only need fat32 and linux swap partitions. I understand that it would mean no apps2sd but that really isn't necessary... If you're unsure check out Evil D's nano Sense v 1.1 to see just how fast fast can get. http://bit.ly/1GOfDS

That is a great idea and I will look into that I'm trying to fix the keyboard issue as we speak and most likely it will be fixed on the next release I am running it on my phone as well to catch most bugs the music player is very buggy I will work on that too and the autorotate as well
Dialer closes upon any number being pressed. Making it unusable.
Google contacts are not there... even after managing to get signed in at the setup.
pressing "del" in messager backs you back to the thread messaging screen.
Lock screen flicks.... does pretty much anything with keyboard.
Google contacts aren't there by default with pulse roms... you need to go to settings and turn sync on for contacts. It's off by default for some dumb reason.

WiMAX Message Notifier redux [Updated 2011-01-30]

Did you know the Evo 4G has a secret second notification LED? It's true! Located on the right side of the speaker near the Sprint logo, the so-called WiMAX LED was added by HTC but never put to work. With WiMAX Message Notifier, you can put this LED to good use.
---
Downloads below. If you have any issues, please, please, please read the release notes and FAQs before you post here.
If you get an FC, check logcat (e.g., using aLogcat) to see if there is a stack trace. Next, check to see if there is a log file on your SD card in the /WiMAXNotifier/logs/ directory. If you find anything, please post it here, or let me know if there are still no logs.
IMPORTANT: Uninstall any previous version of WiMAX Notifier before installing the latest one! That shouldn't be necessary in the future, but for now it is.
Market: coming soon! Either with the next version, or once I am confident that this version is stable.
Source code: evo-wimax-led-notifier Google Code project page
Release Notes:
Possible future improvements:
Support for email/missed call/voicemail/whatever notifications (requires research)
Revamp the UI (Just needs some time)
Coming soon
4G connectivity notifications (I mostly know how to do this)
GMail notifications
ETA: ???
v2011-01-30.2 BETA (current)
Non-broken version of what 2011-01-30.1 should have fixed. Needs testing on CM. Thanks pseudo_nomen!
If you are running a version older than v2011-01-23.1, you need to uninstall it before installing this version.
Ignore all texts from sender 9016 - these are Sprint notifications. This should really fix the voicemail-causing-light-to-get-stuck-on bug.
v2011-01-30.1 BETA (broken, don't use)
Hopefully fixed the issue where new voicemail notifications would cause the LED to come on and get stuck on. I have no idea if this will work on CyanogenMod or with any given messaging app.
If you are running a version older than v2011-01-23.1, you need to uninstall it before installing this version.
Examine incoming SMSes and try to determine whether they are text messages or voicemail control commands
v2011-01-24.1
Try to work around a bug in CyanogenMod. This should work on all ROMs, but if you already have v2011-01-23.1 and you aren't running CM, there's not any reason to upgrade.
If you are running a version older than v2011-01-23.1, you need to uninstall it before installing this version.
Check for ability to write to device, and try root if unable to. Hopefully this will work around a bug in CyanogenMod.
v2011-01-23.1
Almost completely re-written! Should be much faster and more reliable than bluedragon's version.
Uninstall old versions before installing this one!
Rewrote LED control code with a much less hacky version. Should be faster and more compatible across phones/ROMs.
Rewrote notification management code. Benefits: More stable, much faster detection of messages getting read, less battery usage (may not be noticeable)
New GUI. Currently looks pretty awful, as it was not a priority in this version.
App will now check to make sure the WiMAX LED is available whenever you start it. If you get a message saying "Your phone/ROM doesn't support the WiMAX LED!", post a message here with your hardware revision, ROM, and kernel.
Prepared code for adding new features.
v2011-01-08.1 (doesn't work for some people)
I still haven't been able to track down the FCs. The only big change in this version is the addition of a lot more logging - hopefully I'll finally be able to catch them.
More logging to try and catch those elusive FCs.
Move "Reset LED" to the main screen of the app instead of having it in a menu.
v2011-01-04 19:11
Initial release. There will still probably be FCs. I am trying to track down where they are coming from.
Added a "Reset LED" option in case the service crashes without disabling the LED. You can access it by opening the app and pressing menu. It will turn the LED off (but won't mark your messages as read).
* This is an update of the abandoned WiMAX Message Notifier project by bluedragon742. The primary goal is to fix the random Force Closes present in bluedragon's version. I may also add additional features at a later point.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Q. How do I stop the normal LED from coming on? I don't need both!
A. From the launcher, press Menu and go to Settings --> Display --> Notification flash. You can then uncheck SMS/MMS. If you want to disable the built-in vibration/sound, or if you are using a non-stock messaging app, you should check the settings in all of the messaging apps you have installed.
Q. How much does this app cost?
A. For XDA members, it's free. There will be a paid version in the Market at some point, probably for $0.99. Of course, donations are always gladly accepted. If you're too cheap/broke to send me a buck or two, Dropbox signups through my referral link are always appreciated.
Q. Is this app ad-supported?
A. Nope. There really isn't any way I can think of to add ads.
Q. Does this app require root?
A. No.
Q. Is ____ feature supported?
A. Currently this app only handles SMS and MMS messages. I will hopefully be able to support incoming/missed calls, new voicemails, and GMail in future releases.
Q. Will this app drain my battery?
A. This app runs in the background via a Broadcast Receiver and only runs the service while the LED is on which therefore should not kill your battery.
Q. Can you support ____ rate or _____ color?
A. I am limited to what colors and rates are provided by the system.
Q. Are you using all of the available rates and colors?
A. Yes
Q. Will this work with my current SMS/MMS app and do I have to disable any notifications?
A. This app is designed to compliment, or work along side, your existing SMS/MMS app meaning that you should not have to disable anything in order for this app to work properly. It has been tested with the stock SMS/MMS app, Handcent, and Chomp.
Q. Do you have a Twitter account that I can follow to track your progress?
A. No. All progress will be posted in this thread, so you might have to dig through it.
Q. How do I live test the SMS and MMS notifications to make sure they work correctly?
A. Simple - send yourself an e-mail to "[your 10-digit number]@messaging.sprintpcs.com" for SMS or "[your 10-digit number]@pm.sprint.com" for MMS
Q. Does the message service always run in the background?
A. No. It is started when a new message is received and killed when the message has been read.
Q. What should I do if this app force closes?
A. Post here with the contents of the file "/sdcard/WiMAXNotifier/logs/wmnTrace_XXXXX.stack" if one exists and a dump from LogCat so that I may see what is causing the problem and fix it quickly. The .stack file is just a normal text file; you can rename it to .txt and attach it to your post, or open it in a text editor and copy the contents to Pastebin.com then post a link.
Q. Why does this app require Internet permissions?
A. In order for the hyperlinks in the About dialog to work correctly. (Full permissions list coming soon!)
Reserved for possible future use.
Niiice, glad to see a new thread. Thanks for keeping it alive and hopefully updated.

I'm not too surprised - I only fixed a few very minor things in this release. My main goal was to add the turn off led feature and get a new thread started. I plan to look more closely at it this weekend.
Do you recomend us removing the update from November/December and installing the january update from scratch. Or is it ok to just installe the new version over the older one?

LOL. This looks like a rip. This looks exactly like one of the previous versions that Noxious Ninja released before he decided to just make the new layout that's in his newest version.
OP, prove that this isn't his work and that you're not just trying to take credit for his work.
Doesnt seem to be working yet. Tried multiple test methods. Used the built in method in the software itself and also sent myself a text message. LED Still doesnt come on. I am running the rooted leak of Sense GB.2.3.3 with the stock kernal. Hardware 003

this IS an updated version of what Noxious Ninja is doing, I am just trying to make it even more stable than his version... i love what he is doing, and hope he continues to work on WiMax Notifier.
Included in my version, different from his, is that in mine it should work with ALL BFS kernels!!!!! while i personally do NOT reccomend BFS kernels, if thats the way you want to run your phone, more power to ya!!
I appreciate you watching out for other devs, it proves that there are some fair people in this world!!!
Okay, so other than BFS support, what are some reasons to update to this version? I mean, the one I'm using now works most of the time. Don't have FCs, but it seems that the service stops running randomly. Is that fixed in yours? If so, I'll update my ROM with it.

For the most part i have noticed that it works about 97% of the time, and i really dont see random stops for the most part, i would probably reccomend updating to my version.... make sure you hit up V1.1.2, i just released it about 30 min ago!!!
the installation instructions are in the first post, but i can just tell you here to make sure you know that you HAVE to uninstall your current version, and THEN install this version, otherwise you will get an "installation failed"

Smart Protection.ALPHA

are there some annoying guys at your house?
you dont want them to mess up your phone dont you?
well, here is the app that you are searching for.
it simply works as a motion sensor, when the phone/tab is moved, the phone/tab will produce a loud noise.
please note: I AM STILL WORKING ON THIS APP, so there might be some bugs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
this app was tested on:
Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000
Samsung Galaxy S2
mike2nl had tested it on:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Overcom 1.2.2
HTC HD2 Leo Nand with CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V1.7
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before running the app, make sure your phone is not on silent mode, also make sure that orientation lock is off (if you use version 1.0)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
please download the NEW version (Smart Protection 2.2)

@MR.zero:
that sounds amazing and it likes not real, because there was once an app in wm6.5 times. Named Stop Motion or something like that....
Your idea and the 1st version is more then i had expect here. I had used it all the time for my wm phone. Because we have some strange people coming in and coming out while we are very busy by our customers, so this was allways cool. And now you . I will test it under real conditions.
Question:
- will this also run on the sgt10.1 3g version? I think well because you use the motion sensor, and so far what i know from the sdk, it is the same call. Or i am totaly wrong?
- i think after the first tests my question is anwsered by myself ;-). Ok some issues about screen resolution but this logical at this alpha state.
1st test 10 minutes after the download:
- device: SGT10.1 3G (it was a must for me ;-)
- app installed without any issue from sd crad
- app started
- the app is shown only in the top of the screen and then in the middle (logical it is for the 7 inch tab)
- i has to scroll a little bit up to see the START button. Start pressed and then i have waited 10 seconds
- then i have moved the tab from the table and was walking 1 1/2 meter and now my neighbours are awake (it is 30 minutes before midnight, sh..t)
- result: it is working!!
Ok for an Alpha Version is this a very good result.
- Some ideas about settings (sensity, rotation,...).
- Some ideas about screensize (auto size function - landscape and portrait mode). This for the 10 inch version ;-)
- and a lot more, but i will wait for the next version, and i will test this now under real condition.
2nd test 15 minutes after the download:
- device: HD2 Leo NAND CoreDroid HD V1.7
- same way of using as in test one
- result: it is working!!
I think this little app has a great feature here on XDA. Congrats so far!

I can say only one thing about that:
this is one of the worst case users i have ever met here on XDA. I hope the admins will follow you. This is not the way to interact in a community, where people give back something to all of us. But users like you make it nearly impossible to say nothing about that.

THANKS!
i will try to re-design the app, so it would work on the galaxy tab, and also any other device.
i will also re program the app so it would become more sensitive
the update might be available soon
the new version is here!
here is whats new:
1-Smart Protection is now much more sensitive, it no more depends on the screen orientation.
2-resolution error on other device solved.

Jesus, MR.zero... that's really fast. Ok will try it out tomorrow on my work at the customer. This will be fun again. I'll report then tomorrow evening, when i am back at home. But 1st... Thank You.
A hint:
because the possible fast and often update(s) of your app in the 1st time now, you can add the latest download to the first post.
Or write it down and a link in which post we can find which version. Also the changelog in the 1st posting. Looks professional and cool ;-).
And that helps a lot, for shure...
You can also add the SGT10.1 3G with Overcom 1.2.2 and the HD2 Leo Nand with CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V1.7 to the tested or testing devices ;-).

ok, thanks for the nice tip
This is an awesome idea for an app. Thanks for making it, unfortunately, I personally have no use for it. But if I was still working, or lived with roommates, or in a dorm, I would most defiantly use it. But I will still follow your updates and help test.
Version 2.2 is here!
The error in the last version was:
The 'turn off' button wasn't actually working.
This error is now solved!
hope you like it!

Thanks dude, I often put my tab on my working table for tethering my laptop. since my office is placed in front, so there's a handful people going back and forth the office. I seldom close my office door, so this app works for me
I put it on the tble, and i started the app. I press start protection, press home and turn off my screen. I lift it up, shaking it all over, err, nothing happened.
tried again, started the app and then i found that the protection has been turned off again. so i press start protection again, and this time i didn't leave the app. i lift it up and it works
pretty cool app
just curious, can you make it run in the background so it will still works even if i close the app? or maybe make another independent app that u can put on launcher dock for automatically turn it on/off
when u press it? (like screen off app)
but still , thanks anyway

Hey Mr.zero I also have one or two suggestions so far.
Is it true that someone tech savy could just turn the media volume down or quit the app to stop it? It only runs in landscape mode and doesn't fit the screen on my P1010.
Apart from that, maybe letting it run in the background would be enough for this app to alert you without the need to make it complicated!

As always the CyanogenMod team keeps things under wraps till its ready. Ask @Cm_Arcee (Twitter) where it is... lol

I... what?
Well, regardless, thank you Azu for posting this.
Thanks to ttabbal, Morfic, Dameon87, chuckhriczko, teleknEsis, enoch861, and King-Nai! You guys put in a lot of work and I'm amazed at how far you got. Maybe when a Cyanogen Nightly comes out or something, you guys and pluck things out and make an even better rom with some kind of customization, haha.
It was great to see the cooperation in action in the irc channel... speaking of which, will people still be hanging in there?

i got a call @ work the other day, it was a lg rep. i asked him a gajillion questions and he asked if there was anything he could do for me.
I told him the just of everything and asked for some source code,
this guy gave me the most evil laugh afterward, I guess he said we can haz cheezeburgers, ice cream cheezeburgers.
he told me he was gonna send me a lil special something the next time our lg rep rolls through???
anyways, i dled this file, and just to see what happens i installed faux kernel 046 on this and it booted. just saying lmao
***EDIT cursor goes away with this,
question, does ICS come with native micro usb to usb support for stuff like keyboards or mice?
So.. and I'm not complaining, but I noticed this version here has that circle cursor. Is this the version from the first update video? Also the buttons don't work, they just register as presses on the cursor.
Cool stuff either way though. Thank you very much for this!
Edit: This cursor thing is also hard as hell to control xD.
Edit2: Although now, I do notice you say it's the last version you received. The list of working stuff would be somewhat incorrect then, right?
I'm not sure, but I read somewhere that you can disable the circle cursor in the settings somewhere... Don't quote me on that though.

JUST FOUND OUT IM IN THE MIUI 4.0. BETA!!!
Congratulations Asuzke
Good work here. Just a note, I can't get wifi to work. When enabled, the list of networks shows but I cant connect to any, nor scan again. Disabling/enabling scans the networks again. I would have loved to try apps from the merket

Yeah, I get stuck at "Authenticating...", ah well!
Can't really expect some things to work properly anyways. Speaking of which, the home button just seems to highlight items on the screen rather than go back to the homescreen. I'm cool with hitting back a few times, but I was wondering if that's how that was supposed to work, lol.

Usb to usb for keyboards is a no. we would need usb host for that. Which would output power to the device. Which we cant do. So I doubt and but a hand full of phones will. Mainly a tablet thing.

WiFi Does work, though there are a few kinks. For now you can only connect via setting up a network manually, including the specification of name servers.
Thank you very very much!
Hey this is awesome! I'm backing up right now so I can flash this sucker! I will report no issues, you Devs have my word.

lol it was... we don't need issues to be reported because we won't fix them. This build is for other developers to work on since the group is no longer working on ICS
Great job, guys. Newb-ish question, though: will it work with CWM 4.x? The USB port is semi-broken on my G2x and I can't nvflash new versions of CWM.
