Hi, i have gotten fed up of waiting for support for some applications that I know work on cupcake. I have looked and haven't had much success in finding defanged versions of 1.5 cupcake android. I currently have:
ROM: DRC83_base_defanged (1.6)
MOD: CyanogenMod-4.2.15.1
SPL: Hard spl
RECOVERY: CyanogenMod 1.4
RADIO: 2.22.19.26i
Any help would be really appreciated.
Why do you need it though? Most of the ROMs here are 1.6 or 2.1+?
He already said he wants it to run some old apps.
Nobody ever made a "defanged base" for Cupcake, however Haykuro's old ionr2 image will do the trick.

If everything works and boots, I will have the fastest rom ever seen for you.. and it will be cupcake

Before I do that, do I have to use Haykuro SPL for this firmware?
Because right now I'm using JF 1.5 with updated radio from his blog.... can I just do wipe and flash without taking risk of brinking my G1 with new SPL... until they get that sort out.

There are tons of threads on this already. Yes, you *MUST* use the new SPL to use the new ROM.

in that case, can I safely flash back to JF 1.5 with new radio and SPL? Because I'm not sure if I'll like Hakuro even tho I've heard so many good thing about it.
I already have latest radio from HTC, is it's same as haykuro's radio or it's different?

I don't know if anyone has flashed back to JF 1.5 yet - but I would assume you could since people were running the new SPL before the new haykuro build was even released. The radio version that you should be on should be 2.22.19.26I
I'm curious though, why would you update to a build that doesn't have something that you specifically want when what you have is working perfectly fine?

of course, I want to test drive those build and see which fit my need, so far i'm pleased with JF 1.5, it doesn't hurt to try different flavors u know.

It also doesn't hurt to search through threads for relevant information before posting a new topic, but you didn't do that, so I figured you may be incapable of logical thought trains.

would someone mind giving me the short on this. I have a 32A board, and all I want is a 1.6 ROM with the new text to speech features. Not sure what I can and can't do, seems like root is an issue (I tried already with the quick unlockr site) and seems like I can only load certain ROMs. Any advice would be great

Text to speech is just a standard Donut feature.
nk02's 1.6 has a 32A patch in the thread, Amon_RA's 1.6 has a 32A version.
I also HIGHLY suggest Amon_RA's 1.6 ROM. This is the best Donut I found for my Rogers Magic.
About rooting, there is a lot of infos over those forums and over the net. If the one click root dont work, try the "long" way of doing it, if you follow steps carefully, you should have no problem.
Today I've got an HTC Magic, 32A version, and I want to make it run Sense UI so can anybody please tell me which ROM should I install?

It really isn't too much work to get the new SPL and Radio installed if you follow the instructions. Very little risk involved, as long as you follow instructions.
Can anyone please tell me how to install myhero rom it is way easier from what i see than all of these and im n00b so i dont know anything about roms.

Please read the Sapphire hacking Wiki.
the search for threads that instruct you on how to root your phone.
You'll probably end up using a program called Recovery Flasher, or Flashrec.
As long as you don't flash your SPL first thing, you can't brick your phone.
Flashing Magic GyD (32A) is less complicated.
It's probably the best MagicSense rom out right now.
I haven't tried CursorSense yet though, so what's it about anyway? Flashing a Hero rom with a Hero SPL? So you can run roms meant for the HTC Hero?
So when 2.1 Sense comes out for Hero that would work fine on the SPL right?

my-hero 2.0.5 is my choice. GyD always gave me trouble (the software, not the guy ;-))
Im new in this whole android thing but i can see myself flashing phone etc. because im pretty god at symbian and OSx, but both WM and Android are so new experience for me, thats why i came here. I've read it but i still don't get it.
Which programs for computer and for phone should i first download if i want to install myhero 2.0.5 since i already downloaded the rom...?
please, be patient with me, i want to do all of this but im just not capable of doing it at the moment.

Well I just checked out CursorSense and it's very worth it if you want a solid Hero rom. It's the fastest, I've seen.
I think 2.1 roms will be developed on that SPL/Radio soon.

Yes definitely, I agree that this is probably the best and safest way to root your phone.
ok, i think im gonna read some more about cursorsense and finally, if i have guts, im gonna do it. If i decide that i cannot, im gonna try myhero or this visual thingy

OK, first of all, you need to know your SPL version.
Power off your phone.
Start it up by holding Back and pressing Power.
Type all of that information into this thread and then we can help point you in the right direction.

I also tried to install one click to root but i couldnt manage to get Hero rom (again -.- ) because of Can't chown/mod /system/xbin error, line 18. The same error i got when i tried to install MyHero 2.0.5
You cant flash any other roms to your phone until you get an engineering spl flashed... thats what the S-ON indicates... once you have an eng spl it will say S-OFF and you will be able to flash whatever to your phone... the first thing you need is another recovery though i recommend amon ra's
Hey I have been looking for roms to use for my magic. I have looked through forums and has had a hard time understanding specifically what I need and how to install such roms. Rogers has mad it extremely difficult and if any rogers customers have figured out how to change roms can someone please explain to me in detail. I am running windows 7 also if that is important and im running 1.5 android.

I also have the CM-4.2.12.1 on my Rogers HTC Magic and it works great.

I am using a Rogers Magic and already used the method from unlockr.com. Its works great and easy; just make sure you download all the file to the root of the sd card.

I've also got cyanogen rom working fine on two rogers htc magic phones..

Check out the cyanogenmod wiki. Specifically, read this article:

This will work. Remember that you can only run 32A ROMs, or, like with cyanogenmod, you have to flash a 32A port file after flashing the correct 32B ROM. Read through that wiki, it should help 100%.
As many have already reported. It is not rogers making it harder. Rooting is dead simple on magic and then you can use any 32a Rom you want. Delete the files. Remember to follow them exactly. If they say to unzipped it, but if they don't mention unzipping the file....leave it. Probably one of the most common mistakes....yet one of the easiest ti fix.
Running cursorsense 1. 0 because 1.6 doesn't have as pretty of an interface and Google goggles and pretty crumby navigation were not worth it.
ive got an old g1 that has 1.1 RC33 on it, already rooted w/clockwork 2.5.0.7 on it, and i want to get on gingerbread. maybe cos-ds or yoshi.
whats the best way to go about doing this? straight jump there or work my way up donut eclair froyo...
