I`ve got a T-Mobile MDA with WM6 and I cannot access the internet through WiFi. The access point that I connect to is working cause I am able to access the net fine on my laptop. I made sure that my network cards are set to connecte to the internet. I even did a softreset after I made the changes.
My internet explorer just sits there on locating. I am not sure if its just my WiFi card configured incorrectly within WM6 or if its a reg setting that isn't set right.
If anyone had this issue before and got it fixed let me know or give me some direction to start.. thanks in advance for your help.
This is a fairly common problem. For me disabling the Wireless G option in the registry did the trick:
Registry: HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Key: dot11SupportedRateMaskG
Value: 1
so I diabled it, soft restet, verified that the reg change sticked, which it did. I tried to access the net again with no go.
me too
I have the exact same problem.
Not much discussion about this
I tried the G fix. Didn't work. Funny thing. It started when I installed MB. Downgrading DIDN'T fix it.
Try setting the the Network Card to connect to "The Internet" instead of "Work"
they are set to that..
That actually worked for me. (The Internet instead of work fix) I also made sure that all the boxes for "Server assigned IP address were checked. I could have sworn I tried that already. I wonder if it will stay "fixed". I'm due for a soft reset...seems to be working. I've been thinking all along it was some stupid setting.

check the change your dns to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 this may fix your problem

Changing to Internet and setting the DNS doesn't seem to help. Funny thing is, GMail via Midlet Manager seems to work (maybe its doing GPRS?). But IE just spins at Locating...
wifi internet issue on wm6
although i have the older version of t-mobiles' mda (wm5), i had similar issues connecting to the net even it sees a lot of wireless aps. either i cannot hold a steady connection or cannot connect at all. the solution i had was changing the channel on my wireless ap and updating my mda's parameters for my local wireless security. now i can go to the web using my mda even with poor signal quality. It is possible that you have several wireless ap's at your location sharing the same channel. hopefully changing the channel solves your problem.
simple possible solution, but check the proxy settings? I know with cingular, many people had trouble browsing the internet due to the MediaNet proxy settings. they removed the proxy settings and everything was fine then.
There is a known issue with your rom your running...there has been a new release. check the MB thread and you will see a recent listing about a 6 and 4 mb page pool, the wifi has been fixed.

I have the original MB edition and I do not have any wireless problems. I know he had to fix the re-released versions as the wifi did not work with them initially, but I was unaware of a wifi problem with the initial release.
WIFI problem don't even see networks
Hey everybody, still loving this phone and its diversity, but have flashed this little piece of hardware with the mb 4mb/6mb wm6 rom only to find that WIFI can't even be turned on!. And yes I've downed the fixed versions from a certain forum. When I turn on WIFI, It just gives the symbol in the top straight away. It just can't find the networks. I even manually added a network, it then tries to find it, but simply can't. WEIRD hey.
Is there a solution for this problem, cause I really, like the look and feel of the wm6 roms over the wm5 roms.
bye all and thanks in advance for the kind replies.
Did you try using WiFiFoFum at all to see if it can find networks? I have not had any issues with WiFi with the Most Beautiful edition whatsoever. Only thing I notice is that when the machine first turns on or right after a soft reset that I need to click the comm manager icon for wifi twice before wifi will turn on. Otherwise it finds and connects to networks perfect.
Problem with MIE
i have no problem to connect to my homenetwork with WIFI, but i cannot access the internet with the internet explorer. but it works perfect with the opera browser!
hmmm..
It's weird...
I never access the internet with the internet explorer even my wifi was connected successfully while I brushed wm6 rom.
A miracle has happened Today.
I install a WIFI Device for WM5, that one is simple Chinese language.
I tried to turn on the wifi but not work.
Then I uninstall it -> restar....
Then I tried one more time to turn on wifi, ok, it's work to connect but still can't open the web page.
I check the wireless lan, switch the power save mode to best performance.
Then....I can open web page????
Wow~~ I don't know it work cause the wifi device change something or just swtich to best performance.
Maybe you guys can try.
(Sorry to reading my poor English)

Same exact issue. Pocket IE doesn't work, Opera does. Did you figure it out or get it corrected yet?
oops, double-posted
anyone found a version of a commmanager cab with a disable 3G button that works for the kaiser? the ones i've found cause the wifi to no longer function...
im waiting on this as well. the only cab file i found could not be uninstalled so i figure i would wait.

I turned on the uninstallable switch but I have no way to test to be sure it works. I can only guarantee that it will show up in remove programs.
Thanks! ill wait until someone tests it though. anyone?
Nice App.
Hi,
I installed this app on my pre-production kaiser and it works fine, including uninstallation
It replaces the data connection icon in the comms manager so once installed it is slightly more difficult to disconnect from GPRS.
Apart from this.. it works fine if you want to disable 3g networking.

this was said in the original forum
"Hi, I just found out I think that if I switch between GSM to Auto band using this comm Manager the phone will make GSM Band as priority over 3G band. If I switch to 3G Band only manually through Phone Setting, then switch to Auto then the Phone will make 3G as priority. Strange!"
i wonder if this is really the case. i did notice the other day that i had the band set to auto and there was an "E" icon showing. i then switched to 3g and an "H" was showing. i dont understand why it wouldn't have automatically been on "H" since auto was selected.
im going to give this file a shot just a quick back up first.
Also looking for this. I'm hoping someone can craft one with both the Data and the 3G buttons. The stock CM has a space for another button already. Someone's gotta be able to add the 3G button in, please!
3g button doesnt seem to work properly. i confirmed that the quote from my previous post was true.
Oh well. I read a post about someone missing all the little things XDA created for the Hermes. Here is another example and I am starting to wonder if I want the Tilt the 1st day or even few months. It will take a while for the Kaiser to get all the hacks working.
I'm one of those people! But, most tweaks are now in place, I just added this com manager and it's great to be able to throttle down the connection once again to save battery. I'm finding AE Button extremely useful in making these tweaks work like the Hermes.
This com manager works well and as mentioned, it would be better if the Data AND 3G keys could both be present since there is space. Since the Kaiser's Red button no longer breaks the connection when pressed and held, I've used AE Button to map a key, I double-press one to "close dialup connection" which breaks the connection. Works great!
I've tried this .cab on my TyTN II and I've uninstall it.
It doesn't disable your connection like NoData of MoDaCo does.
The one im using works fine, but doesn't have the Data button ( i dont really care) . It does have a beam button though which is obviously useless on the Kaiser, so i suppose that should be replaced with Data. My biggest hope is that someone can replace "Wireless Modem" with "Internet Sharing". I cant get the BT PAN in my laptop to connect when i use Wireless Modem, but it works great with the windows Internet Sharing app.
Unfortunately the installation does not work , shortly before finishing it said
that the program has not the necessary permission ...
any hints ?
make sure comm manager is not running in the backgrounmd
10B with 3G Comm Manager
Here is the one with fixed WLAN link button. Use it to see if it works.
OK guys!
I've developed a WiFi workaround... It's written in C++ (previous version was written in VB.NET)...
I've converted it in a Windows Mobile service... with a more efficient and more effective architecture...
It works as bubble fix only...
You can get it here as WiFiService.cab or OEM_WiFiService.zip... (you need to manually uninstall previous installed version of it)
The CAB and OEM contains the wzcsvc.dll fix too (thanks to vagus).
Let me know if it works...

I've developed a first version of a WiFi WPA bug workaround... It's written in VB.NET and probably it's not the best in efficiency but... it seems effective...
That's the way!!!
Tomorrow or later I'll translate it in C++ as a Windows Mobile service with another more efficient architecture...
WARNINGS
It's based on a timer with an interval of 3 seconds... so to guarantee the best stability wait for 3 seconds between manual turn on or turn off...
LIMITS
This does not handle power on/off wifi bugs... only fix the reboot bug...
It seems not working when a new network is first time connected after being configured through notify messages...
You can get the cab here...
Or can get my latest ROM here...
Let me know if it works... (pay attention... it's a "beta")

Don't work for me.... It is working only partially, sometimes it will connect,

I have better results when I manually turn on and off wifi to connect...
I think that this app is turning off wifi too fast....

Hi Mr Groch,
I would advise upping the timings to 5 seconds, this would give everything time to initialise and connect/disconnect cleanly.
ps........Good work!
Cheers,

New modified version... You can find the cab in the same place...
You can edit and test delays...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\WiFiWPA\Interval: seconds between wifi state monitoring (default is 5)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\WiFiWPA\Delay: seconds between turn on and turn off (default is 3)
I've tried to develop a C++ service... but it doesn't work... is anyone out there that can help?

It works as BubbleFix too...

Excellent work. Exactly what I was waiting for. It works with my Netgear wi-fi set up with WPA-PSK. Could this be incorporated in the new rom Beast is likely to release for G4 devices?
It's still buggy, I think that there will be other versions soon...
When all the known bugs solved, I'll merge it in my ROM... (for Beast ROM you should ask him for it...)
BUGS (BubbleFix)
1. Sometimes it doesn't refresh immediatly the new status... and tapping again cause the wlan driver to act strange (the network adapter simply disappears!). To quickly solve the problem you can turn wlan on by Wireless LAN applet in Settings or softreset...
2. It shows itself when flight mode is activated too...
3. It doesn't handle keyboard input in the connectivity dialog... only stylus input...
I'll work on these bugs on Monday...
Let me know about other bugs!

Thanks. waiting for the next update of your Rom with this and VOIP fix. Well done!
bugy but works. Finally I can use wifi on my Uni... Thanx a lot.
fuih... at last, my WI FI is working alright now, I can connect anytime without any problem at all - thank you
UPDATE
New version available... download again the WiFiService.cab from here...
Now it handles the flight mode and better manage WiFi power on and off...
It's still buggy if used with the common (and old) CommManager... I'll probably develop a new version of CommManager that better handles WiFi...
You can disable the BubbleFix feature changing
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\WiFiWA\Balloon = 0

The application is notified by windows when the Wifi state changes (through the HKLM\System\State\Hardware\Wifi registry value...)
When it happens, if the new state is "connecting" (i.e. 11 or 15) it switches off the Wifi device after 5 seconds (Interval) and turn it on again after 3 seconds (Delay)...
To solve your problem... you should verify two things:
1. What's the name of your Wifi device? I think you can find it HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\CommManager\WLAN\DeviceName
Fix: If you confirm it's stored there, I'll update the application making it read the device name from registry...
2. What are the states of the device written in HKLM\System\State\Hardware\Wifi? They would be similar...
Fix: Turn on and off the Wifi device and refresh your registry viewer window... Take note of the values and tell me...
I'll wait for your reply to update the app...
Pay attention: this workaround simulates the manual turn on and off fix... if it doesn't work manually, this application is useless...
UPDATE

Now it reads the WiFi device name from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\CommManager\WLAN\DeviceName... it could work on other devices...

Well, the problem is the manual disable/enable trick doesn't work for me, but I thought maybe the timings were wrong so I was hoping your app would work for me. I can't understand why this trick works for everyone, except for me :-s

Hey mates!
First of all I wanna wish you a hapy new year
Ok, now to my question.
I've got a HTC Touch HD a week ago.
I recognized that it establishes a data-connection without asking me.
When i'm using Wifi - no problem.
But as I don't have a data-flat that gets quite expensive, if I can't use Wifi (most of the time no wifi available).
Is it possible to set up Winmobile so that it asks me BEFORE establishing an data connection?
I didn't find any solutions, google didn't help me, too.
Of yourse I could just change the adresses in the settings.
e.g- "internet.t-mobile.de" to "internet.t-mobile.deXXX" ---> no connection possible.
But i want to receive and send MMS at any time, so that would not be possible any more.
I hope you can help me, thx.
greetz
try nodata
this should do what you need....i think
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
thx, but not really what i need.
With this programm i still have to close connections by hand.
I just want WinMobile to ask me BEFORE it establishes a connection.
For example: When I open an programm which tries to download something, a popup should appear
--->
Establish data-connection?
[ ]Yes
[ ] NO
I hope u understand my problem
greetz
No one with the same problem here and a solutuon?

I have the same problem with my Touch 3G (Jade). Turning the Data Connection off in the Main Touchflow settings tab helps but doesn't stop it completely. The worst thing is that doesn't seem to download anything but just connecting is enough to start costing.
I spoke to HTC today and they gave me a solution to this problem. Go to Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced and then Select Networks. There you should find a drop down tab with something like ******GPRS, where ****** is your network. Now now choose New and create a new connection name like "No GPRS" for example. Click OK.
You now have a title but no settings so when you select this one, the phone can't connect to the internet. It might attempt to connect but it won't go through. Don't worry about MMS as this uses a different set of settings and works perfectly (for me).
Hope this helps, Woolly.
Find what apps are creating the connection so you can prevent it. Spb Monitor should be able to show you that.
Using Modaco NoData (link given above) will just do the same saving your time (you don't have to create a fake connection set).
What schlitzohr1812 wants is a way to make WM ask for permission to connect. I haven't heard of anything like this, but if you assign a shortcut to NoData it's almost as easy as what you are looking for. By the way, despite the name, NoData will prevent WM from opening connections, not only to exchange data over them.
Just remember that if you disable the connection while it is already open, you still have to close it manually. Also beware that if in your Comm Manager you have an enabled "Data connection" button (on some phones it's always disabled when the connection is closed, on others it can be used to open it), that button WILL open a connection even if they are disabled.
Thx for helping guys, but "Black Antitoon" is right.
That's not exactly what I was searching for but better than nothing.
I'm used to my old nokia phone (N70) which asked me before.
Incomprehensible why Windows Mobile does not have such an option...
greetz Timo
anybody wrote an app for this data permission yet please?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum, and was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have an Acer S200 but figured that perhaps this could relate to any windows mobile 6.5 device. Basically due to restrictions at work, we need to disable internet access from our work mobile devices!
I have read various posts that state that this can be achieved by disabling wifi access by altering the registry keys, however none of the methods that i have come accross seem to apply to my Acer S200 mobile 6.5.
Sorry to be a pain, but does anyone know how i can do this?
Thanks in advance everyone.
alan
Like it has to be unable to turn on, or off? Does the default winmo comm manager not work? If not, just try a third party one, theres plenty out there
Hi cmstackar
thanks for the reply. Yes thats right, there should not be an ability to toggle it on or off - just for the wifi to be disabled for the user. I understand that changing registry keys is only a temporary solution since hard resetting would put things back to normal, but even that's okay for the time being.
Any ideas anyone?
What third party software did you particularly have in mind?
What about your internet access from the phone network? Surely that would be the issue, not wifi which you can't use to connect to the internet unless you're near a internet accessible wireless network which you have the network key to access...
hi xaccers,
the phone doesn't have a data connection plan with it, so it would be too expensive to use for internet access i imagine.
but, likewise then, is there a way to disable both of these (wifi, data connection)?
I know this is such a strange request, but appreciate any pointers from forum members.
Thanks
If would be easy if you could cook your own ROM, but if the user is willing to do a hard reset, there is nothing you could do to a factory ROM to prevent it from coming back after a hard reset.
hi trueg
that is true. However, I am a complete newby to cooking ROMS etc, and also if the user did hard reset the device, it would need to be taken back to technical department to have software reinstalled, etc. So the temporary changes could be reintroduced again.
So, given the above, do you you know how to temporary disable wifi/data connection? I have read others state that this can be achieved by altering registry keys - but the ones that are referred to are not present on my acer.
any expert willing to depart a little advice my way?
So your Acer phone has a wifi thats always on? I never encountered such a device but nonetheless if your wifi network at work is secured then your phone won't be able to connect to the wifi router hence won't get any internet connection.
hiya,
The users can use the devices in public wifi areas. But also, now that i've been trying to do this for ages, i really would just like to know how to fiddle with the registry keys. its kind of bugging me that I haven't managed to figure this out...
will I really need to learn how to cook my own ROM? (I'm not sure I want to take the risk :S)
I'm sure there is a really easy way to disable wifi/data connection (even if temporarily upon hard resetting) that the more experience members can help with... Please
thanks for all the input so far guys.
alan
OK, so you want to prevent users from accessing the Wireless Manager, or do you want WiFi to not work?
How smart are the users that you are dealing with?
You can easily hide the Wireless Manager from the Control Panel and you could possibly overwrite wrlsmgr.exe with a dummy file, but preventing access to the Wireless Manager would mean they couldn't put the phone in aeroplane mode.
There should be several ways to change the registry to prevent WiFi from working at all.
I like to use FdcSoft Task Manager v3.1 to edit my registry.
Hi Alan, You can try cooking a ROM..it's not so difficult unlock your device go to XDA WIki find your phone then check step by step the procedure, connect Acer to the PC download the ROM you think is better for you, copy it to desktop, then to your device. That's it
Thanks trueg,
you say there should be several ways of changing the registry to prevent wifi from working at all. Would you be kind enough to let me know how? sorry - complete newbie here.
francomur99: thanks for pointing that out buddie. I'll look into that too...
OK, well do you have the following key in your device?
HKLM\System\State\Hardware
WiFi = dword:00000001
Changing this to 0 removes the WiFi option from the default Windows Wireless Manager.
Does your device use the default Wireless Manager or do you have a 3rd party Manager?
Update: Hmm, that only works until you soft reset and if you have a separate WiFi manager, it can still turn it on. Well I can make you an application that will set this back to 0 after every soft reset and you can hide any WiFi managers from the control panel, but they will still exist in the \Windows directory.
The best way may be to create invalid entires for the WiFi driver. Do you have this entry in your registry?
HKLM\Software\Drivers\WLAN
AdapterName = ....

Hi Trueg,
Thanks for the tip. Yes, you're advice has removed the WLAN display from the comm manager. However, I do not have the HKLM\Software\Drivers|WLAN entry.
Infact, under HKLM\Software, there is no Driver folder. There is a HKLM\Driver folder however this doesn't contain a WLAN subdirectory.
Any ideas?
Schaps Advanced Config allows you to edit the com manager. You could easily remove the wifi toggle from there, but it would still be fairly easy to work around if you wanted to turn the wifi on. Maybe someone else could tell you how to remove it from the settings menu.
Sorry alan303487, what is your status with this?
hi trueg
I haven't been able to move forward with this since the post on 16th April 2010 11:01.
i.e. the wifi connectino from the comm manager isn't showing, but I can still connect via windows menus.
would still appreciate any advice - so far, it seems that cooking my own ROM is the only other method thats been suggested.
still would appreciate your help trueg. Any ideas?
thanks mate.
OK, well how would you like to proceed? Would you like to try and hide all of the options that will allow WiFi to be turned back on, or disable WiFi permanently?
Also, what do you have listed under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\?
