Install Default Dictionary - G1 Android Development

1st Pst!!! I encountered an issue, wiped everything except my SD card, installed the primary ROM and other .zips needed for Cyanogen then installed OpenEclair 1.2.2. So, I'm a virgin again. I do not have a populated dictionary database, though. By 'populated', when I type a text message, the only words that are auto-suggested are from my Google-synced contacts or words that I have previously saved. I searched XDA completely and could only find references to dictionaries, besides if someone wanted to delete saved words. I also tried to restore a backed up dictionary with Backup for Root and that didn't work, even after a restart. Can someone provide the database and where/how to push with ADB? MT3G w/ Ra's 1.5.2?

Missing apps after HERO upgrade

I was wondering if anyone else was running into the problem I'm having, and if it has been covered before and I missed it in the search box earlier I apologize. I just recently tried to upgrade to JACHero2.6 and my market app (most important) along with several others are missing. The apps are automatically installed on all my other roms, it is only with hero that I end up missing alot of apps. I have a correctly formatted SD card and I did a wipe before I installed this and tried the whole process twice. If I am forgetting to do something special prior to installation or afterwards please let me know!!

you may have gotten a bad download. try redownloading it again. do you have 3 partition (fat32 ext2/3 linux-swap) if not i suggest that for jac's 2.63 also make sure you check file extensions in recovery screen. hopefully this helps
Yes I have my card that exact format and I tried using the filesystem checker in the recovery screen it said filesystem check was complete!! I'll try doing the whole process over again but I'm not sure how that would help, and it is sad too this is the best damn hero rom i've tested to date, its fast as hell!! If it weren't for my apps not being here i wouldn't be planning on a future rom update in the near future or until some big release happens.
make sure you always check md5 sum of all your hero build download
you could of had a damaged downloaded rom and this could affect your rom.
Just tried to download a fresh copy of the rom, checked to make sure my sd card was working properly, wiped and re-flashed yet my market app and the same apps I was missing before is still missing. It should be included that apps on my ext2 were coming back like they should be just not all of them, and not a few apps that I thought should be included with the rom. Is there anything I should check that I may not have yet?
I would use Root Explorer to check if the apk files are still under system/sd/app if they aren't... well, there's no way you're going to see them again unless you re-install them. You can also look under system/sd/app_s if that's there. Other than that, if you can't find it, it's not there. (If you know the exact name of the file or at least part of the apk file name, under terminal type: find "file name" (w/o quotes ofc)
You can add wildcards (*) if you don't know the exact name of the file. If the apk file is still there... well... let's just see if its there first.
I checked using terminal, I typed "vending.apk" and tried to check the dir's you specified for the apks. If they are there I can't find them, although I am a bit limited as terminal is the only app that came loaded with which to check for files. If the apk files are indeed not there then why would the apps install on their own without a problem on any other build but hero??? I must be doing something wrong right? I am open to any suggestions at this point, even using a different rom to check for something, my goal is to have this rom flashed with my apps working soon!
heres the vending.apk from jachero 2.63 you can try and adb push it to /system/sd/app_s and see if it works.
Thanks, I'll try pushing that over but I'm still worried about the rest of the apps I'm missing. Would there be anything else I could try to make it possibly fix all the missing apps? What could be causing this problem in the first place? I did notice that my sd card has an ext2 rather than ext3 part, will that cause all of this to happen? I'm still pretty lost on this. I tried going back to another rom just to make sure my apps would still all pull up correctly, and they did so it has to be something related to this most recent build of jachero, or something
welcome to the club my friend (-;
i have the exact same problem and noone was able to help me yet.
It must have something to do with Jacs apps2sd method. i read some tweets between him and cyanogen that it might be a little 'rough'.
however - it's always the same apps that are missing, in my case it's (badly enough) launcher.apk AND rosie.apk which pretty much means that i can't solve it.
i also tried everything i could with ADB - without luck. I somehow have the feeling that theres something staying on the phone even when wiping and formatting.... I'll check this through ADB this evening.
look @ my recent posts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search_rop.php?searchid=25731882
for previous moaning from myself ( (-; ) and discussion with others in the JACthread. Basically the last 15 - 20 posts are about nothing else (-;
I will also do some logcating today - i've already seen the errors through install (rosie.apk couldn't be parsed etc) but i forgot to save it (and the command promt only saves 100 lines or something)

I have used AndExplorer and put the APK's in the sys/sd/apps and it all worked fine. Very easy to do if you don't know how to push, just reboot after.

You don't need to have the myfaves app for you myfave minutes to work. You are still calling them for free regardless if you have the icon or myfave compatible phone or whatever. If you want to manage the people just log on to mytmobile.com and make the changes there.
Hmmmmmmmm . I never realized thanks for pointing that out TurboTsi.

open up your copy of the build and check in system/app_s to see if the .apks are even in the build. if pushing the vending.apk works i dont mind posting the other ones you are missing if you want to pm me or something
Just tried opening the update.zip file and verified that all the apks are there. Which makes me wonder what exactly is up. Im thinking it could be an apps2sd issue, like what was said above. I didnt have this problem with older hero roms that i can remember. TBH I could try pushing apps with adb but that wouldn't bring back my other 3rd party apps floating in ext2 limbo. So I'm out of ideas ;(

try going to the recovery console and entering upgrade_fs and that will change your ext2 to ext3 and see if wiping and flashing change anything. also if you have root explorer you can check your /system/sd folder to see if all of your third party apps are there
Just tried upgrade_fs and it gave me a "unable to allocate block" I noticed there is little if any room left on the ext2 partition. Would that cause all of this? If not would it be worth a shot to resize the partition and give it more space from my fat32 then try to upgrade wipe reload again?
If you're out of ideas, then I would attempt to resize first (but backup your fat32 first) and then see if that solves it, if not, then I would format, wipe, and update...
but are you sure those 3rd party apps are not there? Try using Root Explorer to determine if the 3rd Party Apps are there, if they are, just pull them to your sdcard and try installing them again with ASTRO or something like that.

[Q] Supreme Sense Question

Aloha-
I recently purchased the Evo Shift 4g and i have perm rooted and have been able to flash to the supreme sense rom and back to the stock rom successfully. Mahalo for all the information that i was able to gather here to help a newbie like myself!
I had my shift programmed so that it will work with a local carrier here in Hawaii, MobiPCS. I am currently trying out the supreme sense rom now and so far so good. I have a few questions and hopefully, i didn't miss a post that has my answers.
1. I am using one of the cool lockscreens (Weather). How, if possible can i change the actual text, specifically "Sprint" that appears above the clock?
2. I can no longer gain access to EPST. ##3282# no longer works. Is there another code? I already have my MSL#. I am guessing that my first question must get the "Sprint" from data in the phone?
3. Voice Mail notification is the only thing that does not work. It did not function with the stock rom either. The only way i can get a notification is to run an app VoiceMail Notifier. Do i have any another options? I am assuming the sprint voice mail has no bearing on my voice mail service from Mobi. I don't understand if the flag to notify the phone is being changed to inform of a voice mail, why the phone natively does not send a notification. (Yes, the voice mail notifications is All turned on).
Not too sure if its okay to post multiple question in a single post, if not, i apologize!
Mahalo (thank you) for taking the time to help me!
Well, I can steer you in the right direction for question #1. Check out this post by one_love_420. I can't help you on #2 and #3 though. Sorry.
for number 3 would google voice help in anyway to help get notified when you get a voicemail?
To solve your EPST problem download this APK HERE
then it should work
BTW:Credit to Strapped365 for the link (which COULD be found in his second post on the Supreme Sense thread. .)
and if i knew who originally posted the EPST.apk a LONG time ago id five them credit here

Well bubbaearl steered you in the right direction for the first answer. Later on in that same thread there is a flashable posted up.
!!! MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU FLASH ANY MODS TO WIPE CACHE AND DALVIK BEFORE YOU FLASH !!!
HERE is the exact post.
As for the ESPT issue THIS should take care of it.
Your Voice mail should be working regardless of carrier. I would contact your current carrier, and ask them to help resolve the issue. They shuld be able to resolve the issue with you on the phone.
Mahalo to prboy1969, notsointeresting, bubbaearl, & youngcorruptionV2.0 for your help!
I'll ..attemp (lol) to do as suggested by the links provided to deal with question1 and 2.
As for the voicemail issue, the actual voicemail does work fine. its just the notification (visual, sound or vibrate) to let me know that there is a voicemail to be retrieved does not work (both the stock and supreme sense rom) As i mentioned, i am currently using Voicemail Notifier to resolve the issue, but i thought the actual phone would be able to notify me without a 3rd party app.
Unfortunately, google voice does not provide a number here out in the Pacific Ocean! but thanks for the idea...
I'll report back if i'm successful regarding the other stuff.
Again, mahalo for taking the time to help!!!
Did you follow THIS guide before flashing your Rom.
prboy1969-
Yes, i did exactly (3x's) what the guide mentioned except for the skipping of the setup...I couldn't figure out how to get out of the setup so i just cancelled/skipped to the end (hope that was okay).
I also flashed back to my stock rom (to get the magic smoke live wallpaper apk, and to back up with Titanium Backup some apps that i missed the first time), then i followed the instructions again. Both times, the voicemail notification did not work. I had a difficult time installing the Magicsmoke live wallpaper but with some help, i was able to get it going. btw, supreme sense rom so far is pretty cool.
Got the "Sprint" removed and replaced with my text! Thanks for the info and the link. very cool...
As fpr #2, the epst, the update(thank you for the zip) did not address the issue. although i guess i don't really need it since i thought i had to change the info here to resolve my issue #1. Just for my info though, why does it not work anymore? wouldn't you folks want to be able to change settings from there? btw, i did wipe the davlik and cache before installing from sd/zip. (installed from boot recovery)
As this is my FIRST android phone (always had a windows phone) As i am getting more familiar with this rom, installing the apps, etc. any other suggestions?
i did partition my sd 8GB with a 1gb ext3 as i flashed with a2sd. However, i didn't see the app in the drawer, and i wasn't sure if that's right? than i noticed any app shortcut (not sure what you call it, one of the home screens) that i installed on the SD, after reboot, the shortcut had a generic icon, rather than the app icon. (just noticed this). when i move the app back to the phone, then after reboot the icon appear fine!
I know i read many posts stating to follow the guide before flashing, and i did!!
Again, mahalo for your help!

To fix EPST you're going to have to run RUU. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Also I highly recommend using FAT32 for partitioning an sdcard or just letting Clockwork Recovery do its thing.

You can also try THIS for the ESPT. For whatever reason sometimes you have to try a few different ESPT apk's. Also one other thing to consider is, since you flashed to a different carrier ESPT may not be available. Not sure who MobiPCS is asssociated with. But either way, no you don't have to RUU to get ESPT working again . Unless of course you want to start the whole process over.
When you use A2SD you do not have to move the app manually to the SD Card. I take it that's what you did before moving them back to the phone? A2SD takes care of that automatically. Although it appears the app is on the phone it is not. Also you can post up on the Supreme Sense thread with all your questions. We'd be glad to have you post up .

I've had someone had EPST corrupted and the only way to get it back was RUU. Nandroid first of course, run RUU then restore Supreme and it works fine.
Yes, i did format the remaining partition fat32, also set to primary.
As to the ruu, i hope not! However thing to note is after flashing to my the carrier i use MobiPCS, I had already perm rooted my shift and getting into the epst to change things that needed to be changed was done (I purchased the phone used off ebay). So, i'm pretty sure flashing to my new carrier had no impact on being able to use epst. However, upon flashing to supreme, no access.
I will try the other link (thanks prb1969) and see if that resolves the issue. Jus curious but for all the others that have flashed to supreme rom, they also have the same issue regarding EPST? Just to make sure the access code is ##3282#, then call...right?
The a2sd..i am a bit confused. (Supreme rom with a2sd flashed) if i understand the reply, a2sd moves the apps to the sd (i assume the ext3 partition) yet it still appears to be on phone? is that correct? Also, a2sd will not in the app drawer at all? (i couldn't find it)
So, i guess what i did, screwed things up? I installed a2sd, it then reported many apps on the phone, of which i did start to move to SD. (thats when i noticed my shortcut (app) icon issue.
Again, mahalo for your help Vicodan and prb1969. I originally wanted to post my questions...pleas for assistance on the supreme sense thread, but since i am a newbie...I couldn't. From what i understand, not until i reach a certain level?
I'd be happy, well, sort of (realizing i would have go through the setup process again) to start over (revert back to stock rom or reflash the supreme rom) if you all recommend that....
Anyways, i'll try that new link for the EPST. will report back..
Mahalo
thanks for the new link for EPST prb1969, however no change..i did wipe davlik and the cache before updating. No errors encountered during the update.
in the dialer, i input ##3282 but when i add the last #, the numbers disappear.
I'll wait to hear back but i thought i might try to restore back to stock rom and see if ##3282# still works (it did the last time but before i flashed supreme)
If you have a Nand of the stock Rom, Nand back and check to see if ESPT works. As for the posts I believe you need at least 10, before you can post on other threads.

nand back to stock rom. Yes, EPST worked. copied epst.apk to sd. flashed back to supreme a2sd rom (clean).
will apply lockscreen banner update along with the magic smoke wallpaper..
Can i copy the epst.apk that i got from the stock rom and paste into the /system/app folder?
or do i need to something else first?
and btw, after flashing back to supreme a2sd rom, epst does not work
Don't know if this is the same EPST.apk you've used, this works fine on my phone running SSV8 A2SD with dodge kernel ext4. Hope it works on yours...

Ok I'm back lol ha-ha with a fresh build station, man i don't know why you can't use epst, because all of us SS users can use it fine I'm not to sure about the metro users or not, and this has me stumped because SS is basically just a modded out stock ROM so i dunno but we will all try to do what we can to get you up and running as you see here
Shifted to the extreme, cause I rawk Supreme
Mahalo for the update file rhodiggah. I'll report back to see if it works.
also, can i use the epst.apk file from the stock rom, rename the existing one in the SS Rom, and paste into the /system/app folder?
do i also need the odex file?
btw i was able to get the magic smoke live wallpaper to work by copying the apk file from the stock rom, copying it into the ss rom and correcting the persmissions, and it worked. I didn't copy over the odex file. while it works, i read about what the odex file does, and now i'm wondering if i need this file also. the wallpaper seems to work fine.
Also, an update on a2sd, yes, it does move installed files to the SD card ext3 partition! lol. and i didn't install a newer version. (Since i started over again flashing SS) which begs to ask, what happens when there is an update to a2sd? I"m guessing there is a way to do it?
Again, can't say it enough about how helpful you everyone has been in helping a newbie out!!!

[Q] Extract individual contact info from CWM

I have GT-I9003.
I have CWM backups(for my original stock ROM/MIUI ROM/ CM9 ROM) for my phone, that I have saved on my PC.
Is there a way I can restore individual contact information from this backup?
=========-----------==================---------------===========
Additional Info: I found something here but am unable to understand it. If someone can understand it please explain.
http://nmlaxaman.blogspot.in/2012/06/how-to-retrieve-contacts-from-android.html
Well, no responses.
I did further googling and am able to extract contacts2.db from my backup.
More, I found a windows application sqlite browser that could open this database.
But, am stuck here. I could find names of contacts, but phone numbers seem to be in a different table. Anyone know a query to get this info?
Make a "new" backup of your current config. Then restore the "old" backup you want to get the contact infos out of. Boot the device and go to Contacts choose Settings => Export to SD-Card. All the contacts are now on your external SD. Now restore your "new" backup and boot your device. Go to Contacts choose Settings => Import from SD-Card.
Thanks XDA_Bam. I'm sure what you said would works but I want to do it the other way.
Reason:
Contact info I need is from my stock ROM backup, which was a few ROMs/kernels/scripts ago. And, it took a lot of time and effort to get CM9 customized/optimized the way it is now, and I dont want to risk it for a few contacts that didn't get synced to google.
I am sure there should be another way to do that, and I am pretty close to finding that way.
I could extract the sqlite contacts database and am able to open up the db file using a sqlite browser. It's just there are a lot of fields/tables out there, and it would take long time to do it myself.
Need help from someone who's been there.
Thanks again for your help.
Well, I found a way to do that with a lot of help from Google and XDA.
Thanks to everyone who wanted to help.
Steps for anyone else who needs to know
1) Extract the db file per instructions and files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370349
2) Get SQLite browser from http://sqlitebrowser.sourceforge.net/
3) Open this contact db file in SQlite browser.
4) Browse to table data, and a little searching can get your desired contact info.
MODS =============== This thread can be closed if rules say so =============
I tried to load contacts.db using SQL browser, but shows nothing. Not even a single table/data. How did you get it to work?
Was it sqlite browser?

Fix Permissions Deletes Texts.

Before anyone starts telling my I posted in the wrong section, I just want to say I did not know exactly where to post but because it was on my Inspire Phone, I assumed to post it in this section. I'm running Existz aospX's ICS ROM BR6 but the issue does not pertain to the rom. Using ClockWorkMod's Rom Manager (v. 5.0.2.0) I ran Fix-Permissions; After doing this however, I rebooted my phone and noticed the some text messages were missing. I was wondering if there is anyway to recover the texts? Because this shouldn't happen to my understanding. I have the database file for texts but I'm not very sure if the texts are "physically" inside it anymore. If anyone can assist me I'd greatly appreciate it!
I dont think there is anyway to recover those messages. Just backup what you have now, and reformat

Problems after encryption

Hi there!
I'm running a bunch of problems after I tried to encrypt my phone.
Long story short: I use JellyTime as ROM, which have not the "encrypt phone" setting available.
By the way I found this Google Issue: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=5678
As you can see in #21, there's a procedure to enlarge the data partition so the system can be encrypted (or better, the option to encrypt would be in the settings menu). Then I tried to encrypt but it failed, asking me to factory reset my device. And I did it (damn).
Now every time I flash a ROM, Home button don't work, and the lock screen disappeared.
It works (home and lock screen working) only restoring a Nandroid backup that I had previously saved.
Is there anybody who can suggest me what to do? I think that the last chance is flashing the stock ruu and then flash again CWM and ROM, but if there exists another method I would be much more happy
This is in the wrong section, you should have posted this in the Q&A, this is the development section.
Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.

Same problems
I had the same problems, wanted to encrypt my DS to. On every Rooted Rom had this issue.
Perhaps because the base rom which is used is not for the DS.
I wanted to encrypt my DS because of the active sync settings which state that the android phone needs to be encrypted and a PIN needs to be sed.
I am trying to use a program and I like it very much
TouchDown HD (for ICS/JB)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nitrodesk.honey.nitroid
I am using this ROM
[ROM][22-01-13][Flinny] Andromadus Test builds - CM10.1[12]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031694
Like this ROM very much, stable and working cam.
U can use TouchDown HD for 30 days completely.
The only downsite is that it has it's own agenda and e-mail.
But I don't mind the own e-mail because I can set my mail to only push mail during buisiness hours.
Love the program so far.
Cheers

Thanks for the advice mate, but I had to play with encryption not for a personal need, but because of a lecture/exam for my university course of Cryptography II (luckily went very good ) and I needed to perform a demo to attack the encryption.
By the way, after a lot of search, seems that the mess with encryption is caused by the way clockworkmod handles partitions on internal storage, or something like that. That's why if you want to enable it (actually, just for make visible the encrypt option in Security menu!) you have to follow that procedure I linked in the first post (you have to make room for the crypto footer, 16 Kb).
Now, I was lucky to being able to mount my SD card after the failed encryption (if you search in the various threads you realize that this is a common issue after factory resetting), but some problems remained.
For sake of information, I found the solution by myself: I had a Nandroid backup working good made before the encryption, so I restored it (old \data partition layout returned), than wiped \data (and cache) from cwm. After that, I was able to flash every other ROM without problems.
Hope it will be useful!

Thanks, but I am on HBoot 7.00.1002 and don't have an old data partition. Had the same problem with hboot-0.98.0002 or hboot-6.98.1002.
Anyway I am glad for you that it is working for you
